Sometimes certain car parts like the
Mass airflow sensor
Idle air control valve for example can go bad and not throw a code in which this results in extended diagnosis or turning your car into a parts cannon

Many issues would not have the light come on. In other words, if the light isn't on, it's probably not that issue.
