Muscle memory, I have the same issue with my spouse who grew up on 4 when I grew up on 3. It never gets better, each time you forget that "they grew up weird."

In "Zymnian" (rather in German) it would be on 3 btw, because usually we just say the three names and shot on the third one. So in german it would be "Schere, Stein, Papier" and you shot on "Papier".
They should have their characters carry dice to decide things, or would that break the story? Dice go back pretty far historically and could probably fit the diagetic narrative
