Much superior to any other drybrush I have used and I have been painting fir quite a while. Able to create a much finer and better blended finishes. Always been a big fan of drybrushing and ink usage so keep up the good work.

      I think the best advice for dark skin tones is to look at a lot of pics. Then you see the highlight colours go right the way up through the same caucasian tones we use, just in much smaller areas. If you don't highlight it all the way up it doesn't look nearly so good, it's not about the skin colour, it's about the light.

    • @philgee486
      @philgee486 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      (Not rosy pinkish highlight tones tho, add some yellow)

    • @ryanlanca9927
      @ryanlanca9927 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know if it helps, but what I do is basically this, but browns instead. Instead of going up through the more Caucasian flesh tones, I just go up through browns. Depending on the specific tone I'm going for I will continue to mix it with Rosy colors or more yellow or cream colors. And of course blues or greens for dead flesh.

    I'll definitely try your method of painting the eyes earlier. I followed Darren Latham's video on faces, and got it really nice after a couple of hours of work, and felt kind of bad when I finally painted the eyes, and they didn't turn out as well as I'd like. I'll also switch to Ulthuan instead of white for the eye balls.

    Really enjoyed this one. I'm really not confident with faces at all, and to be honest I normally avoid bare heads to avoid having to paint a face but it is something I want to work on. I will be ordering some smaller series S brushes (I only have sizes 1-6 atm) and trying some of this out - I'll mainly stick to the second method for now since that's already better than I usually achieve. Any tips for varying skin tones? I'd love to see a similar video for brown skinned models and green skinned orks - both a detailed and speed version of each just to see how you approach the different colours/shades.

    Is there a name for the Divide face into thirds and tint them yellow/red/blue rule? Finding it hard to Google it.
    Also, word bearers red is one of those colours that keeps coming up (almost as much as leviadon blue!). It's a little known citadel paint, but doesnt seem much different to khorne red. Why all the love for it?

    use your paintbrush's butt to dilute with lahmian medium, dip it into the pot and it gets exactly one drop on it and you can place the drop on the or next to your paint drop :-) don't use the brush (bristles) - you can control the amount easily and no need even to wash the brush before using

    Great vid with well planned processes to get great effects on both faces for the time put in. My current challenge is very different and I wonder if you'd give me your thoughts. I'm addicted to mini heavy kickstarters with masses of quite well detailed figures but the faces particularly have a very different sculpting approach to GW stuff. The faces are more realistically contoured and less stylised, the exaggerated detail of an "epic" styled figure isn't there to work with. That makes it harder to use this sort of approach. Right now I'm painting massed nazi soldiers from Reichbusters and Hellboy, small faces with all the features there but not sculpted deeply or with exaggerated features. How would you approach them differently to try and still get a good tabletop gaming result for the time invested? for instance because the face areas are smaller painting the eyes isn't a worthwhile matter at all. I tried out a bunch of approaches but I'm ashamed to say my best result was barely any painting at all. Red brown all over base, pale pinky flesh all over that only avoiding the eye socket area, then I washed it with a bunch of different test mixes of inks, then switched to glazes made with contrast paint and plenty of contrast medium, but the best result was Reikland Fleshshade straight from the bottle (2 light coats), finally a very dry brush, barely any paint at all with the original pale flesh and a tiny trace of the same ink. I buy very few GW models and use artist inks rather than game inks but I had some around that came from ebay with a master set of vallejo I got for a song. I feel like I haven't put the work in, somehow haven't done them justice, but they look fine and way better than my tests using more usual and more thorough approaches. With all the field grey green on the troops they really needed the warm flesh and other warm hued saturated detail features to bring them to life, not so true on the smattering of guys I had the patience to do wearing whiteish (winter) coats or winter forest camo coats over their base uniform. Any thoughts would help, there must be a lot of us painting the pvc models from games like this?

    Hi there. Thank you for all the help you offer in your videos.
    I am a little confused but wanted to confirm something: as I am watching this, I am up to the point you have applied six layers to the top of the nose. Should I assume that your layers are so thin and see-through that the cumulative layers are actually visually effective? If not, why do you keep covering the same surface with different shades when you are just going to cover it again in the next step? Obviously I have not painted any miniatures yet?
    When you paint on your thumb it seems like the colors are opaque and that suggests you are just going over and over the same surface covering the color you just applied. I understand that in some areas you are sequentially covering less area but that bridge of the nose seems like you just cover one color with another.
    Hope I am not offending you with my confusion

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries mate, not at all, it's a very good question! The correct application of this stuff separates the proper award winners from process-beasts like me, I probably obscured a couple in there (need more delicacy/control/less rushing), or could have missed some steps (wasted time/could have been faster)... more practise needed :)
