I always put a twist on both ends. But I would advise putting all ratchets on passenger side. If you get in a pickle and you need to pull over to adjust ratchets you are out of the road way and hopefully wont get hit.

Pulling my first container this week coming up ❤ thank you for the video and information feel a lil bit more confident now …. You guys be safe on the road
I know the rules for flatbed cargo. At least two straps and one each 10 ft. However, for flat bed loads carrying shipping containers if I chain the front and rear then Are straps legally required every 10 ft? I saw this other video where the gentleman only chained the front and rear of the container.
I’m moving a 20 ft container tommorow and had not thought of using straps as well as chains. Trucking is easy. Securing is tricky Or something like that. Good job!
@@TruckandTravel actually it traveled well. One mistake I made the front chain non binder side I accidentally attached reverse. Net result was lt pulled same direction as the rear binder instead of opposing. Rookie mistake. It loosened.and box moved slightly on extreme rough road. The last mile was 4 wheel drive. I will watch your video again as I want to perfect process to move our 20 ft job site containers. Many thanks and safe travels. Takes no brains to be a driver. Takes all you got to be a good trucker!
Hi guys we are new to the scene here in AZ.... Hauled about 100 of them now... What's DOT specs on strap spacing and width? We've been using (5) 4" winched down ...2 closer up front...then every 10' till the rear... Is it regulation to chain the rear up? Also....what's the minimal width straps allowed 2"-? TIA!!! Bob and Mandi
We got them off load boards. They normally didn't pay well when we did them. They weight wasn't bad but the height catching all the wind, makes it a little rough on a pickup trucks transmission.
I always put the ratchets on the driver's side because then I can see them if something happens on the road but like you said we all do things are own way
I'll be hauling a 20ft container on Saturday.. We were just going to chain it like you did... Are the straps necessary? Obviously if doing straps on a 20 we'd only do 2 I assume, being half what you hauled?
Personally I would do. 2 straps and 2 chains. I like to over do stuff. Just remember it doesn't hurt to ver strap, only hurts when you don't do enough.
How do you secure 2 20ft containers on a 40ft flatbed? Just use chains on both ends since you can't access the center points on the containers and strap it down?
Should be able to use chains in the center. I over do stuff. I think you could get away with 1 chain and 2 straps per container. If you are using a pickup truck, these containers will get your transmission hotter. I've noticed the tall items work my truck harder then if it was flat and heavier. Be safe, you got this.
hello, I am a #PL company looking to move some containers from the port of Savannah GA to unload Pasco WA then drop in Kent WA when empty. Any leads for me?
Good video. I hope that y'all get paid more per mile for containers up there...we haven't found them to be very profitable since they suck tons of fuel. :(
And the straps are exposed for the entire height of the load. A sideswipe could tear a strap anywhere, not just at the rubrail. Strap outside the rubrail is not against the rules.
It's called a rub rail for a reason,to protect chains an straps, straps go on the inside if the rub rails,if u were to rub up against anything u would bust every strap,2nd u don't put all the binders on same side the end straps have ratchets on same side center strap rachets go on other side or all the pulling stress from straps is all pulling to the ratchet side,so if their staggered it pulls evenly straight down,,
Leave more slack in the front/ rear chains before applying the binder. If that would slide the least big it will tighten the chain and you won't get it off the load
Boa noite ! Gosto muito do canal de vocês! Uma dúvida? Qual peso do trailer e da caminhonete sem carga ? Qual a capacidade de carga deste trailer? Para conduzir este veículo e necessário CDL ????
Good night ! I really like your channel! A doubt? What is the weight of the trailer and the unloaded truck? What is the load capacity of this trailer? To drive this vehicle you need CDL ????
Living the American dream.. is it easy no, do you want to quit at times of course, but you just keep your head held high and keep rolling with the punches.
If you twist your straps they won't make the fllapping sound as your traveling you hear that loud noise as your driving when you don't put a twist in them
if you need a little more leverage you could gently use a cheater bar on those ratchet straps or tuck the strap through the handle hole and pry up on the strap with your shoulder, nice video
U wanna make it easier an faster,,cut a 20 ft chain in 5 ft lengths an put a big clevis slip hook on 1 end of chain an no hook on the other end, just hook clevis hook on each container corner tie down an put binder on each chain on the side, cuts time in half an alot easier
If you EVER almost get hit by the IDIOT drivers out there texting and driving when your having to check or adjusting your securement you will switch to curb side securements and storage box mounting!! Keeps the Traffic from Splashing you in adverse weather ect. It's just SAFER!
Not sure about where you are, in Australia the ratchets dont count as part of the load, so they can sit outside, not way out, but if they sit outside the trailer they are not considered part of the load... if the handle fell down and stuck out heaps, then thats a fine.... Australia has thousands of dollars in fines, its crazy.... I think the truckers are honking at your partner as she is very attractive, just saying
Thank you to you, concerned young guy. The camerawoman ..... should have placed more attention to what YOU were teaching us, since the clarity of the video ( too dark... at times) is not good at times because SHE must have been bored and not interested in what you were trying to accomplish. Thank you and God Bless You.
If you put 1 twist in your strap it will not vibrate in the wind going down the road; )
Thanks Jerry, I have heard that is a good Idea I keep forgetting to do that.
@@TruckandTravel your welcome, love watching, drive safe and God bless!

Binders should be in the center on each end.so it has a equal pull from both directions
I agree
Wouldn't the binder be hanging off the rear of it was centered

Is it ok for the zip tie to stick out or will that count as making the load to wide ?
I never worried about the zip ties. I'm sure there is at least one DOT officer that wouldn't like it.

How do you find these container loads? I see them driving down the road all the time when I'm in my semi. Looks like an interesting hot shot business.
We got them off load boards. They normally didn't pay well when we did them. They weight wasn't bad but the height catching all the wind, makes it a little rough on a pickup trucks transmission.
Thanks for making that simple and plain. I wish you well.

If you Chain it, do you need the Straps?
It's been awhile. I don't remember the weight that the chains can handle. It doesn't hurt to hover chain or over strap for DOT.

Getting sideswipe with the straps on the outside of the rub rail can totally unsecure your load. Thats why you keep them on the inside bro
How often do you get side swiped
And the straps are exposed for the entire height of the load. A sideswipe could tear a strap anywhere, not just at the rubrail. Strap outside the rubrail is not against the rules.

Thanks, a wise man once showed me how. Let me know if you do.

Thank you Jason. wanted to do something different from our normal vlogs.
Nice one 👍🏻 pulling a big container like this must be no fun when it’s windy ......
I dont think we had any bad wind yet. We usually drive around 55 - 60 mph
Hey thanks very good info....
You two Rock!
Thank you Henry.
Isn't your chain turning too many corners to be tightened affectively? that pop isnt ok
Couldn't say. The thing stayed on the trailer though.
Do you know what is in the container?
The ones we take are always empty. Thanks for watching buddy
Truck and Travel yours ain't loaded down with paper towels ???
Great video!! Thanks
Thank you
Not first God bless you 🙏 😇

Hey Noah
Twist straps if over 5ft.
You'll lucky having flat deck the entire length like that ... with mega ramps or the smaller ramps ... chaining that rear ain't as easy 😦
I bet. That was part of the reason why I didnt want that kid of trailer but dang I love using those ramps when needed.
U wanna make it easier an faster,,cut a 20 ft chain in 5 ft lengths an put a big clevis slip hook on 1 end of chain an no hook on the other end, just hook clevis hook on each container corner tie down an put binder on each chain on the side, cuts time in half an alot easier
Thank you sergio ramos

hahaha. When I first read this I thought you was gonna say something about the truck!
Truck and Travel 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
Shipped a container once and never again, causes terrible drag and reduces your mpg drastically regardless of how light it is
Agreed
You don't have the pin lock setup on your trailer, would sure make it easier and safer, just my pinion.
I agree. Can you remove the pins? Cause we do other freight on the trailer.
@@TruckandTravel...
I'm pretty sure those pins drop down, flush with your trailer deck.
You could put your binder on the back instead it might tighten up both sides of the chain more evenly.
If you EVER almost get hit by the IDIOT drivers out there texting and driving when your having to check or adjusting your securement you will switch to curb side securements and storage box mounting!! Keeps the Traffic from Splashing you in adverse weather ect. It's just SAFER!
