5 months of using the Avene has resulted in dramatic results for the skin on my face, neck and chest. My chest had a lot of texture from sun damage (yay 20's lol) and this product smoothed the texture so well with minimal irritation when I started (I used every other night until I could easily use it nightly with zero irritation). Thank you so much for sharing this product with your audience - it is a huge game changer.

How long did it take you to see a difference? I have been using both the Avene 1.0 and eye cream since July and have had no change in my skin. I took before pictures and compare them weekly and they look exactly the same. I am feeling so discouraged but hope that maybe it is just taking time.

I have to agree with Kay ~ I’ve used 2 bottles of Avene retinol for face and eyes and no results- a little underwhelmed 🙃

@@kaymccormick5700 I noticed subtle changes in the last few weeks on my face (eye wrinkles diminished and smoother skin texture) and my chest started to improve around 6 weeks and continues to do so with use. I don't know if it is an additive effect, but I also started using a vitamin C serum in the mornings at the same time. That helped a lot with dullness - perhaps its the combination of the two added to my routine that's leading to visible results. I wish I would have taken photos, but I'm not great with the phone camera and not sure if I could capture the improvement of texture - but its definitely noticable in real life.

@@sherinaemamali7533 I feel as though I got lucky - this is the first retinol product I've used. Everyone has different skin so we each have to find what works for us - and that will likely be different than what works for others.

If you live in EU like me, I can highly recommend the A-Game Retinal serum by Geek & Gorgeous. They have two strengths and the price won't break your bank: 12€ for the 0.05% and 18€ for the 0.1%.

This is very informative. I've been using retinol products for a while now but to be honest, I've never heard about retinaldehyde. I love the anti aging retinol night and eye cream from Tree to Tub. Its very lightweight and the fragrance is very subtle. The company is also 100% vegan and cruelty-free which is also important to me when choosing my products.

I love your videos, I used retine A for the last 30 years I used it because I had bad acne when I was teenager now that I'm older (49 years old) and my skin is fantastic. My skin is used to retin-A and that I can use it on my chest, neck and hand without irritation. Now I use it at night (retin A) and I wait 30 minutes to absorb and I use resverastrol the ordinary and q10 (Eucerin), for the eyes I use
q10 eucerin then retin-A (small quantity).
Minimum 1 hour before the bed.
In the morning I use niacinamide (The Good Molecules)and SOD (superoxide dismutase the ordinary) and then sun screen. This skin routine can sound irrititared for the skin, but my skin tolerate very well.
I don't have wrinkles, crow's feet and dark spots
My skin is incredibly smooth (juicy).
After watching your video I bought the LED qure mask (qure) and it's incredible how well my skin is.
I don't like use Vit C.Thanks to your video and all the info you have given.

A lot of people swear by Maelove Moonlight, but it wasn't my favorite. I didn't love the scent and there are frankly just too many oil extracts in it, many in the citrus family. Retinoids are potentially irritating enough without throwing all that into the mix. The Avene is definitely more expensive, but there are fewer potential side effects and the packaging is superior (though the slip leaves something to be desired). The Geek & Gorgeous A-Game line is also much more affordable and has a simpler but still effective formulation, but to get it shipped over the free shipping threshold from Hungary is really difficult. When it comes to the Avene retinal eye cream, Beauty of Joseon just came out with a super-elegant one at a fraction of the price for double the volume. For a future review, I'd love to see you do Maelove's new Fade Away brightening serum. Thanks, doc!

My daughter uses sunscreen and a good foundation but the texture is “rash-like “ but not red. She uses Proactive products, probably not like she should😉☺️ She knows I take very good care of my skin and follow you!

Hi Maren! I’m based in the US, but I found that I prefer Geek and Gorgeous retinal products for face (from Hungary, shipping free to US if over 60 euros), as well as Beauty of Joseon retinal eye cream (Korean beauty brand) MUCH much better than Avene! Both brands are also waaaay more affordable than Avene … but regardless of price point I find them more effective as well. Stylevana and other k-beauty sites make buying Asian beauty products so accessible. Also agree Maelove is fantastic as well!

Hi, I hope you are well. I'm currently using the Avene 0.1% retinal but I came across the Beauty of Joseon retinal eye cream...however, the BOJ contains 0.02% retinal. Can I switch to the BOJ with a lower retinal concentration? My only gripe with the Avene 0.1% retinal is that it has fragrance (I can tolerate 0.1% retinal just fine). The only reason why I'm contemplating to switch from the Avene 0.1% to the BOJ 0.02% retinal is to avoid the fragrance.

I use tretinoin 0.1% all over including sensitive areas like neck, and around the eyes and I’ve never gotten any irritation. My question is: is it working if I’ve never had even a little bit of sensitivity or is my skin somehow rejects tret?

No new info here, but nice summary of her other videos. Note: individuals have differing ability to convert various nutrients into the active versions. I know from DNA testing that I have a zinc transporter deficit, for example, and that my son has a vitamin D transporter deficit. My friend cannot efficiently convert the precursors of Omega-3 into the needed long-chain fatty acids... Many people have similar deficits with converting precursors of useable vitamin A (retinol) to the active form... So I am wondering if those individuals would benefit from retinaldehyde more than those who can convert readily. Know your body, save money?

I then download the raw data and used different options to have it analyzed. The best report was FoundMyFitness, but other reports were in agreement with the findings. This all surprised and thrilled me, giving me confidence in the value of the tests and analyses. We did the same for my son & a friend, as mentioned above.

Tretinoin was just not working for me. Spent almost 7 months on it and it was the worst "skincare" experience I've ever went through. Even applying moisturizer on a clean dry face before tret and then applying moisturizer after tret, 3 to 2 days a week. Also I was only applying a pea size and my skin was just not tolerating it. I had to stop. I've finally tried Retinal and it's doing wonders for my skin. Using A-game 10 Retinal by Geek and Gorgeous.

@@darlenegera8866 The neutrogena and ROC are retinols which take two steps to convert to retinoic acid. The avene retrinal (retinaldehyde) takes one step. Something else that can be used is also adapalene. Both the differin gel and LRP don't contain niacinamide either. I would check out her video, how to start a retinoid in 5 easy steps. I live in Canada and you suggest Avene Retrinal a lot, but it seems like we can’t buy the Retrinal line here unless you order online and the price is ridiculous, even through Walmart online. I am u decided between using tretinoin with the sandwich technique or using retinaldahyde. I am leaning towards the retinaldahyde.
Had anyone used the Hanna Muller Retinol serum from Amazon for $9.99. Says it has 0.1% retinaldahyde.

  • @aurip1

Thanks for a great, instructive video! However, I just looked into what type of retinoid my retinol serum is and it says ”Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (Granactive Retinoid)”. I googled it and according to one article it is directly derived from retinoic acid, thus has to go through 0 conversions.
Is it so? I can stick to my usual serum and don’t have to go out looking for retinol or retinaldehyde?
I am confused as they call in retinol on the packaging, but maybe it’s just for marketing purposes, easier for consumers to recognize the name.
    Thanks!
