Another thing about the Green Goblin being a giant monster is that it’s a reference to the Green Goblin being a monster in the ultimate universe which is the universe Miles is from
I remember seeing something like that, but I didn't include that because I couldn't find any sources that mentioned this about the movie around the time the review was made.
I would have thought that was obvious since ITSV seems to be based on the Ultimate Comics. Like how in the Ultimate comics, Green Goblin was a giant hulking monster, Peter dies by the hands of the Sinister Six, Aaron dies, etc. Idk if Christian noticed that, but he didn't seem to mention it in his video.
About the stickers that he complains about its really basic showing of Miles's character. Hes a artistic kid, he loves to express himself in ways that defy authorities in even small ways ,this is shown expanded upon even later with the graffiti art scene.
16:08 - Dude at this point, comparing this guy to Nostalgia Critic is doing HIM more of a disservice. At least Critic actually KNOWS what he's talking about and actually has more of a clear-headed mindset when it comes to animated films like this. This guys just isn't thinking straight at all when it comes to this film specifically.
I feel like at his worst, Doug just misses the point of what he’s reviewing due to not paying attention to what the movie is trying to do or say or just missing details. At least Doug respects people who likes something he doesn’t tho as well and tries to be somewhat civil.
At least the Nostalgia Critic is just a character, separate from Doug's actual personality. Doug is actually a decent person outside of his cantankerous nostalgia Critic persona, this guy just seems miserable.
About the Green Goblin, Miles' story originates from the Ultimate Marvel universe. As such, versions of his story would naturally be set in a version of Ultimate Marvel. In Ultimate Marvel, Green Goblin is indeed a hulking monster in appearance (It's where his appearance in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon is lifted from), though from what I know, the wings are lifted from 2099 Spider-Man (and probably Turn Off the Dark of all things). Hope that explains things a bit.
I remember reading something like that on Green Goblin's Wikipedia page and even considered having that for the Green Goblin point, but I couldn't find a definite source that mentions its inspiration. Very interesting detail about the wings, I would've never known that.
@@Cyber_Dragon I know about 2099 from Lego Marvel and can confirm he does have wings. The Turn Off the Dark bit is from TV Tropes but after a quick search, I can see that Goblin did also have bat wings.
Im getting off topic, but,Oh yeah I do remember the old ultimate universe (Earth 1610), first exposure to that was through the ultimate spider man video game(I had it on the gamecube). I remember such differences from the main marvel universe, such as: Obviously Green goblin is a hulking figure, but also, Peter Parker getting bit by a genetically enhanced spider created by Osborn Industries, Kraven the hunter is Australian and once hosted a reality show, characters that are normal humans in the main universe like Wasp and Black panther are mutants, Bucky is still alive, the fantastic 4 are a group of college students that they, along with Doctor doom/Victor van Dame, got their powers through a government experiment, the avengers are called the ultimates, nick fury is African American and is general of shield, colossus and storm are 2 of the founding x-men, Rhino is instead a mecha suit, Electro and sandman got there powers through getting experimented on by Justin Hammer(normally a iron man foe), venom is a living suit created to fight cancer, Deadpool is a war veteran turned to a cyborg bent on mutant discrimination, Cable is wolverine from the future, magneto'sgroup is known as the brotherhood of mutant supremacy(in which wolverine was part of the group before defecting to join the x men) Punisher was a former cop turned vigilante after his family was murdered by Rouge cops, Spider woman Jessica drew is a clone of peter park Spider-Man, Hulk has no problem for killing someone, Rick jpbes becomes Nova, Adrian toomes never became Vulture, and perhaps the most infamous, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver committing sweet home Alabama (yeah not a joke). And this is likely a fragment of all the other differences made in the old ultimate universe to differeinate from the main marvel universe
Why the heck doesn’t Cyber Dragon have more subscribers!? Seriously though, as a reviewer myself, you made a fantastic video debunking the terrible points Christian made in his “review” Great job, dude
It reminds me of my own voice in some of my voice recordings and it makes me cringe. It actually made me second guess if I should ever pursuit in being a Voice actor. It hurts to listen to.
if "they're different because it's a different dimension" is a lazy excuse then "they're different because they're from a different dimension" is just as lazy at the least, because it's running off of identical logic. also how does he not realise monster green goblin is from the ultimate spider-man comics, the same ones miles is from. he uses the comics to support his criticisms, yet seemingly ignores very basic knowledge about the comics that would debunk his own arguments. for someone consistently bringing up comic book accuracy, i don't think he actually cares for the comics. he also asks "what does this add?" to doc oc being a woman, but that answer is very clear, it makes the fact she is doc oc an actual twist, so we don't go "well that's obviously a villain" which is ironically a complaint he has about the prowler being obviously a villain even before we see him in costume. these arguments are all brought up practically back to back, and yet not a single one has been thought out, as if they had been, the blatant hypocrisy would have been staring him in the face, and shity opinions aside, if you're gonna go after one of the most beloved movies from the last decade, you should at least think through your own arguments before exposing your entrails to the wider internet. but i guess that would require him to think at all.
My best guess as to why he didn't make the connection was because either he did not read the comics or had little knowledge about those like me when writing this video's script. I considered bringing this up in the video, but I couldn't find any sources that stated ITSV's Green Goblin was inspired by the one from Ultimate Spider-Man.
i find it really funny how he says that it's "lazy" for ITSV to have different villian designs due to being from another universe when..... it would literally take more effort to make new designs instead of just copying old ones, aka it would've been MORE lazy if they had the exact same villian designs in a different universe
also about the point of MJ not recognizing Peter B's voice: the two Peters are literally voiced by different people to emphasize the fact that they're from different universes, it wouldn't have made sense for MJ to tell because it's literally a different VA
That's something I should've looked up before making that part because that would've been a stronger point than what I had in the video. Thank you for pointing that out.
Just subscribed. This was very interesting. In my opinion, Into the Spiderverse is STILL one of the best 3d animated movies to ever come out. Nothing more to say.
@@Cyber_Dragon I still can't watch it fully. It's hyper kinetic style and frame rate variations cause issues with my sensory overload and such (I'm autistic and while not all autistic people have these same exact issues, I have spoken to some others who do). I tried to watch it in smaller chunks but there's certain scenes that are a real struggle to watch.
The animation is good, but strorywise I found It meh at best, maybe it's because I don't like Miles that much, he was Just Peter Parker 2.0, instead of a New character.
I really enjoyed your video because guys like this don't know how to critique films they nitpick their way into high heaven, but this fandom has ton of people with ego's an straight up worship along with general disingenuous. I like the nostalgia critic, but at least he can acknowledges his faults plus an tries to change.
I have no idea what the fuck Christian Lake was smoking when he did that stupid video, because this movie was freaking awesome !!! Great video Cyder Dragon and take care and stay safe 👍.
7:31 Maybe because it's two different Spiders and different spiders will hurt you more or less depending on which type of spider it is (because they are different types of spiders), and this spider was one that doesn't hurt when it bites (because those spiders exist). 12:05 I may note that the Kingpin was always that big when it came to the comics and he wasn't as big in the live-action versions because you can't easily make a person look like that in real life (this might also apply to the PS4 version but I don't know the technology they used so maybe it was something they couldn't have done maybe it was something they could've done but either way the point of the Kingpin is that he's a massive bulking guy and there are several ways to capture it some which is similar to people in real life and some that aren't). 26:14 How does it look really stupid... he never explains it? 31:41 Does Christan Lake not know that different people wear different things. 32:00 At best Christan doesn't know that characters can make mistakes in stories and if why they made the mistake is well written (like in this) it isn't bad writing. 32:18 Why would MJ conclude that this is Peter since from her perspective Peter is dead (and we have no evidence to assume that Aunt May called her to tell her about the Spider-People coming in from another dimension), and if Peter is dead how could he be talking to her, and how isn't it completely reasonable to assume someone is either putting on a voice to sound like Spider-Man or someone with a similar voice (because some people have similar voices to other people) also their voices are very similar but not the same (because of course they're played by two different voice actors). 35:33 It's not that he doesn't want to get himself killed anymore it's that he knows that he has to pick himself up after he failed and getting himself needlessly killed won't solve anything. 38:27 It felt like an sometimes because it was supposed to feel like an acid trip in those moments.
33:48 it’s important to remember two things. 1. Why would MJ think spider-waiter is Peter when Peter Parker is dead? 2. I’m pretty sure Miles changes his voice with his father because of the joke that they should change their voice OR because he hugged Officer Morales and figured he should pull back with his identity.
I found a user (not gonna say their name because I don’t want to get in trouble) called out Christian lake for his behavior and not handling criticism in part 3 of his into the spider verse rant, and so Christian lake responded and said that the reason he can’t handle opinions is because he couldn’t handle the amount of love and praise the film was getting, so he pretty much created a three part rant on into the spider verse as therapy for him not handling people liking the film, and says that he may be viewed as a jerk for it but that’s the world they live in, Ok I understand why he didn’t handle other people’s opinions on the movie, but that still doesn’t give him the right to death threat the writers or call people idiots for liking the film.
Tbh this is more of a comment for myself to remember this video, but I do wanna leave some feedback as well. Your critiquing is genuinely respectable and I appreciate the fact that you don't fall under the bad trope of youtubers defending their favorite properties by only insulting those who call it bad. I see way too much of that lately and I have a feeling that your style of critique / response content like this will get you moving eventually. I've seen several channels blow up from counts like yours to the 100,000s in subs and I'm hoping that you can too cause you definitely got the potential. (Apparently I'm subscriber 77 which is also cool)
Thanks man, really appreciate the comment! I always found the way I commentate in this video to be better since it gives me a chance to talk about media I like. Even if I'm still a channel with less than 100 subscribers, so long as people like the content I make, I'm happy with that.
It appears I stumbled across a gem of a video. That was very entertaining to watch and I can't wait to see more. Maybe not about debunking cringe reviewers, but maybe about some other stuff like games, anime, TV shows, or other comic book media.
Glad you liked it! I hope you like commentaries as that's the type of content I make. I am planning a few more commentaries about movies and video games, so be on the look out for those.
Nah he's an anomaly, he's ORIGINAL ANOMALY! If he hadn't made the review trollworldtour2001's review wouldn't exit and NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED!
I don't like Kingpin’s design either, but that's a huge exaggeration. It's fine, just not the best. Wait? Did he say this being a different universe isn’t an excuse but mentioned it would be better is they were from other other universes?
Hello there! I was just surfing through youtube and found you by accident. Must say, i greatly respect people, like you, who do not intend to stay quiet, and eradicate all possible misinformation. Not everyone can or want to do this. I am not at all surprised with the fact, that this is just a trend. Many people want to be exceptional, because being that way, gives you more views, more money. And then when something seems to get more views, others just copy it. Thats the tragic truth of the internet.
Personally, I wouldn't refer to it as misinformation, just a bad review of the film. But thank you for the compliment, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
@@Cyber_Dragon I think about it as a misinformation, because of people, who don't even try to turn ON their brains and just "copy-paste" this "opinion" everywhere on TH-cam. Then second person, who overheard the first one, will copy it, and it just continues to spread everywhere.
Yikes, I feel I have to apologize to people for having to experience an unhinged Asian even though the only common ground I have with this Christian guy is that Im also Asian. Like, why is he death staring and talking like that? Its really uncomfortable 🤢
The stuff he is complaining about is not even a big deal, its not even hurting the movie. Its upset because the movie didn't go the way he wanted it to go.
Found the real problem with the review: as he admits himself, he doesn't actually care about the characters. That's why he gets confused about Peni Parker having a scene where she is sad at the loss of her best friend. This is why the disintegration problem for the other Spider-People is also utilized: for the audience. If we are honest with ourselves, we cannot truly comprehend planet level threats, let alone threats to the universe or multiverse. If the characters we care about aren't affected themselves, the audience will care less about the stakes because we just won't comprehend it. Imagine Avengers Infinity War did not have a single character we know die, only the soldiers, random citizens and such. Endgame would feel much weaker in that context because the audience didn't lose anyone. Only the nebulous "populace" did. So by having the Spider-People themselves being in danger, the audience really goes "Oh no, THEY are in danger, and I care about them! We have to save the dimensions!"
The criticism from 4:34 and then from 7:13 together paint more than enough of a picture to understand how not to be taken seriously this reviewer is. They complain about a scene in which a cliche is used, and then another scene soon after in which a cliche is dodged? This guy is like a much lower production CinemaSins without any of the irony. EDIT: I guess throw in the immature screaming and actual death threats to the movie writers. How does this guy even have an audience? EDIT 2: 24:08, Oh my GOD this guy. He literally just got done with this whole rant on how the villain designs would make more sense if they were from other universes, and in the same god damn breath says that excusing the villain designs with "because it's a different universe" would be a lazy excuse. How can one person be this lacking in self-awareness?
I feel like if someone just breathes in this movie he will find a way to complain about it are minor at best and completely nit picky at worst I can’t go five seconds into his review without banging my head maybe if I did that enough then I could see his point do to all the brain damage
10:30 I definitely agree that the explanation isn’t necessarily needed. However, he has been depicted as a hulking monster before, specifically in the original Ultimate universe from the comics. So, when I first saw the design in theaters, I assumed that’s what this movies version of Green Goblin was inspired by.
That spider bite scene with Miles and most of the humor of this film is honestly just about the same kind of humor that was in the previous stuff Lord and Miller made, like the Lego Movie which had that exact type of humor. I personally found that scene funny because of how it made me think of the Lego movie because of it being the same humor as that film as I said before
I did 3 Sabersheaux videos mocking TWTfan's Spiderverse rants (but I do respect his opinion, despite him being disrespectful). Did those videos for justice for the Spiderverse fanbase. Maybe you would like to check them out and see what I got right.
Okay I know I commented already but another thing. He complained about MJ not recognizing Peters voice … you think he realized the two Peters have Different voice actors? And actually sound different. Also at 31:55 when he shouts it’s sounds like he said “fucked them” and I can’t stop laughing at this. Okay I’m done great video carry on.
Wow, I'd only seen Trolls world tour fan's video, I never knew there was another awful review which he was ripping off. It's ironic because Alex (Trolls world tour fan) said that Kingpin's design was a rip off the hashslinging slasher, yet he ripped off that criticism from this guy Christian.
Oooo, freshy slideshow commentator! :D (Idk how long you've been in the slideshow commentary game, but someone that I knew of showed me this video.) Great job on the commentary. I feel like as if I could possibly make a commentary on the videos that you've covered on my own since there's a couple of things that you've missed (not counting that against you) such as his complaint of Dr. Octopus being female. I feel like as if that point against Christain Lake seemed like it was very misguided at the very best because...honestly, who the hell cares if she's a female in this universe? Do we really need a reason for it? It's kinda like how people complained about April O'Neil being black in Rise of the TMNT and that new TMNT movie (even though the first incarnation in the comics back in the day had April O'Neil being of a different race than white). But honestly, I'm just a lazy bitch. Again, great job! I expect some great things from you! :)
Thanks, man! This isn't my first commentary, but this is my first as a slideshow commentator. It's awesome that you were able to find something that I missed in this commentary. I knew there would be some things I missed, I just don't know what. I may have considered having that point about Doc Ock being female during the script writing, but that point didn't sit right with me while writing it. Not to say it's a bad point, but it was just a personal feeling I had, and I can see how it could be misguided. Thanks for the comment, and I'll do my best as a commentator!
I was trying to check if there are any users commentary videos on this terrible rant of Spider-Verse, but somehow there are actually no commentaries on Christian Lake's Spider-Verse rant. Atleast this commentary existed which you already taking care of.
That is true, Peter Parker will always be Spider-Man and that it isn't a title. You can still have characters like Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, or Miguel O'Hara be a Spider-Man, but not *the* Spider-Man. When I say Miles has to become Spider-Man, it's in the context of a superhero that stops villains and saves people via spider-like abilities. I don't blame you for getting confused about that, so I wanted to clarify what I mean by that here.
@@Cyber_Dragon Personally, I don't liked the idea that only one person can hold the name of a hero. Spider-Man is much more than just one person, he's a ideology. The embodiment of the phrase "With great power, there must also always come with great responsibility". More people can share Peters legacy, just like how Batman has his own successors that carry on his legacy.
@A.B.-ub9un That's understandable. I do think there could be a discussion on what it means to be a superhero and whether it's the ideology that matters or if it can only be tied to one character, but I'm not exactly one that would get into a discussion about that because I don't think I'd be the best person to discuss that.
i will say kingpins design was definitely a big risk by the creative team, but it works with the art style, i think it had good reception, and the skeleton memes are so funny
I'm glad I watched this video so I temper myself when I talk about X-men Days of Future a movie that I didn't like but i'm aware that other people actually like. I thought it was overrated but I have to make sure that it has problems that I personally and shouldn't try to tell people to change their views based on my single opinion.
This dude's complaints range from downright stupid to outright hilarious. He's mad that Peter isn't one we've already seen before, he's mad that Green Goblin and Kingpin have exaggerated designs in an ANIMATED film, he's mad at fucking SPIDER-MAN having moments of comedy to ease tension, he doesn't like those subjective moments of comedy to begin with, he's mad at the movie making up things that weren't in the comics despite, oh I don't know, the movie not being a direct one-to-one adaptation of the comics in the first place, and he's... mad that Doc Ock is a woman... yikes. He says he would "let the designs slide" if they were from other worlds, but like, Miles IS in another world, one WE the audience hadn't seen before. His criticism seems as if he thinks Miles' world is the same as the Raimi universe or something, it's just stupid and makes absolutely no sense, plus his argument contradicts itself. Like, he literally says in his point that the designs should be from another universe, but that this is also another universe, DIRECTLY contradicting himself in the span of what, two, maybe three sentences? And come on, he says it'd be a "lazy excuse," even though it's the EXACT thing he said. I just don't understand. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE! And he's upset that Spider-Man Noir is voiced by Nick Cage? Like, you don't have to like him in the role, but it doesn't make the movie terrible, it's just something you (he) personally don't like. His complaint about Miles' Dad and the situation with Uncle Aaron is so bafflingly dumb. His dad sees a Spider-Man costumed figure standing over a dying man with nobody else around, of course he's going to assume he's the one who did it. And how would his dad A, know who the Prowler is and what he looks like, and B, that he's working for Kingpin? I mean yeah, he's a cop, but they haven't done anything regarding either the Prowler or Kingpin up until this point. And it's HILARIOUS that he brings up the Spider-Verse comics, and then proceeds to complain about Peni crying over the destroyed mech. Like, both the comics and this movie make it pretty clear WHY she'd be upset about this, and then he outright SAYS why she'd be upset, and then just goes "don't care." It's fine if he doesn't care about this scene, but he shouldn't be acting like he has no idea why Peni's upset when it's blatantly obvious why she is and he clearly knows why too. Also, this is maybe a nitpick, but he REALLY likes his one recurring "hash-slinging slasher" joke. You know, for a guy who doesn't like the funny and sometimes pretty unique jokes in this movie, he really seems to think he's the peak of comedy repeating the same joke what, three or four times? Not even a unique spin on the joke or anything, just the exact same joke each time. This guy is just extremely angry about basically everything in this film, and thinks shouting into the mic is a great way to convey his points and make people agree, because that ALWAYS works, doesn't it? I genuinely can't tell if he's serious or just trying to rage bait people, but either way, his points are nearly always just wrong. It's like, would he rather this have just been a complete one-to-one with the comics? And he sure talks about violence a lot towards the creators of the film. I wonder if he slapped his barber after getting that haircut too.
Problem 1: The Peter Parker of this movie isn't the Tobey Maguire version from the Sam Raimi films. Who's to say he isn't? Peter B. Parker, the one we see for most of the movie, is from a universe called Earth-616. Not the same as the mainline Marvel universe, obviously, but it's clear that this burnt out Peter Parker is _our_ Peter! He could very well be from a timeline that had the same events as Spider-Man 1, 2, and 3. Problem 2: I don't like the scenes with Miles and his dad because it's an annoying cliche. Yeah, it _is_ annoying. Teenagers are annoying. You were a teenager once, Christian was a teenager once, Cyber Dragon was a teenager once, I was a teenager once. This is an accurate portrayal of what it's like when you were a teen and you felt like your parents were overly doting. Problem 3: It's so obvious that Uncle Aaron is a villain. Actually, in the comics, Prowler is an antihero. Problem 4: The Shoulder Touch Yeah yeah, it's cringe, but like I said. Teenagers. Problem 5: The Spider looks weird. So? It looked weird in the first Sam Raimi film. Problem 6: The puberty jokes are forced. TEENAGER. MILES IS A TEENAGER. Problem 7: Miles' hands won't stop sticking. Why? BECAUSE EVERY SPIDER-MAN GOES THROUGH IT! CANON EVENT! Problem 8: Why is Green Goblin a big monster? Alternate universe. And yes, that's what Norman Osborn looks like in the Ultimate universe, which is what the movie is based on. Fun fact, the Ultimate Marvel universe was also the inspiration for the MCU! Problem 9: The two Spider-Men being able to sense each others' powers. Well, that does sorta happen in the comics. Cindy Moon, a girl who was bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter on the same day, has a sort of psychic link with Peter because of it. Problem 10: Kingpin's character design. Kingpin is supposed to be disarming. You _think_ he's, you know... fat. But he's not. His entire weight is pure muscle. With animation, and cartoon art in general, you can get away with drawing weird body shapes. A skinny man can look like a pole. A short man can look spherical. You could draw Kingpin to make him look like a cartoon fat guy (big round belly and small legs), or draw Kingpin to make him look like a cartoon strong guy (large upper body and small legs), but how would you do both? You would give him a large upper body and a large abdomen, right? The result is a big, blocky figure that doesn't look human, but _does_ look menacing while still being disarming. Problem 11: The dramatic scenes always end with a joke. Yeah I gotta agree with that. God forbid we see genuine emotion in a superhero movie. But that's more of a problem I have with the MCU than with Spider-Verse. The dramatic moments aren't ruined _that_ much by the jokes. Hell, freaking _Spider-Ham_ has a moment with no jokes, when he chokes up while telling Miles that the hardest part about being a superhero is that you can't save everyone. Problem 12: The Spider-People don't disintegrate out of their home dimensions in the comic. Yeah, and the Infinity Stones in the MCU don't follow the two rules for Infinity Gems that are consistent in every universe we see in the _comics._ In the comics, you can't destroy the Infinity Gems, and you can't use the Infinity Gems outside of their universe of origin. In Avengers: Endgame, they say fuck that to both of those rules. Thanos uses the Stones to destroy the Stones, and the Avengers manage to use Infinity Stones from alternate timelines that _they_ created to bring back everyone who was blipped in their universe. They _kinda_ merge these two rules in the animated What If show, where it's explained that you can't destroy Infinity Stones if they aren't in their original universe, but whatever. The point is that it's an adaptation. It doesn't have to be completely loyal to the source material, and quite frankly it _shouldn't_ be. That's one of the best parts of seeing an adaptation, pointing out all the differences. It feels like you're watching something new. I mean, imagine if in Avengers: Endgame, they introduced Adam Warlock, who snatches the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos and undoes everything without any issue? That wouldn't be satisfying. Imagine if the first Lord of the Rings movie had Tom Bombadil tell the hobbits where they needed to go and also wear the Ring without being tempted by it at all? That wouldn't make any sense in a cinematic adaptation. Problem 13: Why is Doc Ock a woman? BECAUSE IT'S AN ADAPTATION! Problem 14: The Spider-Cave is stupid. The Spider-Cave serves an important purpose. This is Earth-1610 Peter Parker, the Ultimate Parker. His life was perfect. He had endorsement deals, he was in great shape, and despite being a broke college graduate, apparently was able to get his very own superhero hideout. The posthumous Peter Parker is supposed to be a contrast to _our_ Peter Parker. Yes, it wouldn't make sense for the mainline Peter to have a Spider-Cave, cuz like I said he's broke, but that's the point. Our Peter is a mess. But somehow, it was the perfect Peter who died, while the burnt out Peter was the one who helped save the day. It also shows that it doesn't matter how much of a loser our Peter Parker is, he's still Spider-Man. Problem 15: Nick Cage doesn't add anything. CURB YOUR TONGUE, HEATHEN! Problem 16: The comic recaps were repetitive. Yeah, that's why they all begin with "let's do this one last time." The narrative KNOWS that we've heard this origin story a thousand times before, so they just give us the sparknotes. It's a courtesy for anyone who wants to start reading about these characters without being confused. Problem 17: How did Jefferson Davis come to the conclusion that Spider-Man killed the Prowler? That's sadly how it often works in real life. The first person spotted at the scene of the crime tends to be the prime suspect. This becomes an important plot point in the second movie. Problem 18: Kingpin holds a memorial for Spider-Man and the heroes disguise themselves as the staff way too easily. And why does Peter get distracted by MJ? This is actually lampshaded by Spider-Noir. "It can't be _that_ easy... It's that easy." If you want an actual narrative reason for why this plan works, here's where I come in: The villain always underestimates their opposition. He'd pay no mind to the caterers, because why would he? It's not like any of them would surprise him. He's Kingpin. He plans for everything... or so he thinks. And Peter got distracted by MJ because he's an emotional mess. That's what one half of this story is about, Peter being able to redeem himself in the eyes of _his_ MJ. Why didn't MJ recognize Peter's voice? I dunno, maybe she did but she just kept quiet because Kingpin was around? Problem 19: What was the point of the sad moment with Peni Parker? It doesn't make sense, but only if you haven't read any of the Peni Parker comics. That mech is all she has left of her dead father. It's a moment for the comic book fans specifically. Peni's a side character. Yeah, she does help with the goober, but she could've been swapped out with another Spider-Person. That's not to say she's useless, no. Her narrative purpose is flavor. She's there to make this story more interesting, and show just how varied the Spider-Verse is. And the emotional moments with characters like Peni Parker will make viewers want to check out her comic books, where they'll learn more about the characters. Seeing Peni show up for that one scene in Across the Spider-Verse made me do a bit more research about her, and learn about what she went through to make her so depressed. That's good writing! It made me a bit more invested in a character I know nothing about. Problem 20: How did Kingpin not kill Miles? Because Miles is a different Spider-Man. That's it. What works for one Spider-Man doesn't work for another. And like you said, Peter was already beaten within an inch of his life. Problem 21: Post-Credits Scene It's a classic Spider-Man meme, why wouldn't they reference it? It also didn't ruin the Spider-Man 2099 teaser, because again, _it makes you want to learn more about the character._ Also I want _more_ Spider-Man themed Christmas carols. In Conclusion: Christian is Nitpicking and Biased I win, bye bye!
Wow he really doesn't pay attention to the movies because how would Mary Jane even recognize Peter B Parker's voice when it a different spiderman from another dimension
That's incredible. It's almost an inhuman talent. Christian doesn't understand that animation has to have exageration, clearly shows that anything he doesn't like seeems to be a him problem, drags on and on and on and on about something (like, dude, we get it), legit throws a death threat in the middle, edits like a sponge, answers himself whenever he asks a question about something, never understands a joke, sees the meaning of a scene (or the film in general) and of animation in general right in front of him... but like a poor marksman, he keeps missing the target. Have I left anything out?
33:05 Even there This Peter is 10 years older, has a different voice actor entirely (just because they're both Peter Parkers does't mean they would also sound the same) and she think her husband just died I think it's quite reasonable for a person to not just make such a leap in logic, especially a character who we know so little about How do we even know that Mary Jane was able to remember Peter details with such accuracy? I mean, I myself spent my entire life with my family, yet if You asked me what's the eye color of some of them I wouldn't genuenly able to tell Same if they even just put some sun-glasses and I didn't know they were there (to solidify even more how the Superman hidden identity does indeed works even if minimal)
Another reason the thing he said about MJ not recognizing Peter B’s voice makes no sense because PETER PARKER AND PETER B PARKER HAVE DIFFERENT VOICE ACTORS!!
31:03 Forgot to mention this, but the Prowler was very likely a know criminal in Miles universe Miles don't hear him getting called by anyone once, yet when he goes back to May house where the other Spider-People are he says "My Uncle, he is The Prowler!"
Same here dude, I can't be mad at him. Christian Lake has his own personal biases and opinions, it's just unfortunate for everyone else that he has a TH-cam channel to vent to.
What a coincidence that this commentary was released on October 9th, because i released a Commentary on TrollsWorldTour2001's reviews on both of the Spiderverse movies on that same day
Ive seen bad opinions from me, myself, and I. But dear lord... I think he might just be pointing out the smallest points he had pet peeves about only to make some half assed content that's not even entertaining. But only ironically, but idk. Good content btw! Interested for more.
I hope one day Christian Lake can enjoy something that's widely considered good. I understand that people can have their own opinions on things, and if C.L. unironically hates Spider-Verse, then that's on him to deny himself the joy of enjoying this movie. Personally I enjoy these movies. I love watching a story unfold onscreen, Into the Spider-Verse was one of my favorite animated films that year. I'm still hoping that they stick the landing on Beyond the Spider-Verse, as I'm sure most of us are after Across, and I hope that in the end these movies stand alone as one of the coolest superhero trilogies of all time. I'd like to hear your personal take on the second movie sometime, Across the Spider-Verse. It's also a really great sequel and it had me invested all the way till the end!
I absolutely love Kingpin’s design and everything about this movie. It’s a good movie that was made with a love for art and the comedy was perfect. Kingpin was both goofy and intimidating. I thought it was pretty obvious. Since he y’know killed spider-man with his bare hands but at the same time he’s a chonky dude. Same design spirit as in the comics. The entire movie and ATSV was made with love for all of Spider-Man media. Spider-people are often tragic and use humor as a coping mechanism and it’s reflected in the movie.
So the MCU undermining its serious moments with jokes is good, but Spiderverse adding onto a scene with jokes that are perfectly in-character is somehow a bad thing? I feel like this "kid" doesn't actually know why something happens onscreen and is just pissy at things he personally didn't like I'd also like to add onto the Aaron thing because apparently to this guy he's "obviously the bad guy" but........where does he see that exactly? As far as I'm aware there's NO indication of Aaron being the Prowler whatsoever except maybe him getting a call from Kingpin at an odd time Hold on so, the villains being pulled from other universes as a reason for their designs is good but them being from THIS MOVIE'S ALTERNATE UNIVERSE is somehow bad? That doesn't make sense at all, if anything it'd just be an extra line existing for no real reason. Could it have worked? Yeah, but so does what we got 💀
I know I'm three weeks late, but I stumbled upon this video and seriously liked it. As a smaller youtuber myself, I think you did a great job on your first video with a slideshow avator, and Megaman X was a great pick. Just subscribed, looking forward to watching more of your content.
Anyone else love how Christian Lake somehow thinks he is a better writer than the guys at Sony who made the plot of this movie? His alternate plot idea from around 24:00 in this video is interesting but the problem he doesn’t see and ignores is that it is too basic and not fleshed out at all. It is too funny how ignorant he is to how very flawed and bad his plot creating skills are
Wow the guy realy is trying to be nostalgia critic in the very worst way. Basically treating a movie that actually had things figured out story wise and art wise but shit like nicholas Cage being cast doesn't "add anything to the story" Seriously, they could have casted Robert Downey Jr. to be Spiderman Noir and that still wouldn't technically add anything to the story because it's not a damn Spiderman noir movie.
I’m sorry I have to point this out “they could have been villains from another universe”…. MOTHER FUCKING THIS IS a different universe! He’s complaining about something when the solution already happened!
I will admit that I at first was not a fan of the design of Kingpin for Into the Spider-Verse, but over time it sort of grew on me. And I also let it go as the design for the sort of over exaggerated feel this movie went for in terms of the villain designs.
I refuse to believe you only have a couple hundred subs, this was a great video Also “I am surrounded by idiots” is such a funny line coming from Christian of all people
Christian sounds like someone doing a parody of an overreacting nerd voice but somehow unironically.
It do be soundin' like that, now that you mention it.
_Nostalgia Critic_
I feel bad for Christian's dad. He tried to enjoy the movie only for his obnoxious son to squawk like Daffy Duck the entire time.
Would've hated having a son like that.
That honestly sounds kinda funny to me, but yeah I would feel bad for the dad
@@PlahaKumarand agreed
Where did you hear About that? 🤨
Yes And I Like It
@@phantom-X2086I also thought that too when I first saw the movie and I still think that
Man the Ultimate animated series was peak.
About the stickers that he complains about its really basic showing of Miles's character. Hes a artistic kid, he loves to express himself in ways that defy authorities in even small ways ,this is shown expanded upon even later with the graffiti art scene.
That's a great response to that moment. I wish I had brought that up in hindsight, but I'm glad someone highlighted that.
Even NC the Wall review, while terrible, isn't as bad as Christains Spiderverse review.
I feel like at his worst, Doug just misses the point of what he’s reviewing due to not paying attention to what the movie is trying to do or say or just missing details. At least Doug respects people who likes something he doesn’t tho as well and tries to be somewhat civil.
He's clearly just trying way too hard to copy the style of Doug Walker, actively and desperately scraping for things to pick apart for material.
He’s not trying to do his own thing he’s just a lazier version of Nostalgia Critic
This is all Nostalgia Critic's fault.
Seriously though, as a reviewer myself, you made a fantastic video debunking the terrible points Christian made in his “review”
Great job, dude
Dear *god* Christian Lake’s voice is absolutely painful listening to!
It's worse when his audio peaks. I had to lower the audio gain in certain parts.
*The shoulder touch killed my dog*
*The shoulder touch is the root of all evil*
"Because the shulder touch killed my grandma okay"
*The shoulder touch sent me to Hell*
The voice is killing me from the inside HOW is this not parody?! He's always giving off the death stare and i hate it
I find it funny how he was making fun of Doug/Nostalgia Critic when he is obviously copying his style
i find it really funny how he says that it's "lazy" for ITSV to have different villian designs due to being from another universe when..... it would literally take more effort to make new designs instead of just copying old ones, aka it would've been MORE lazy if they had the exact same villian designs in a different universe
also about the point of MJ not recognizing Peter B's voice: the two Peters are literally voiced by different people to emphasize the fact that they're from different universes, it wouldn't have made sense for MJ to tell because it's literally a different VA
That's something I should've looked up before making that part because that would've been a stronger point than what I had in the video. Thank you for pointing that out.
@@im_acasualplus Peter B is a good deal older and more tired than the Peter she knew. So it would be harder for her to make the connection
Just subscribed. This was very interesting. In my opinion, Into the Spiderverse is STILL one of the best 3d animated movies to ever come out. Nothing more to say.
Heavily agree with that. This year was my first time watching it, and I absolutely loved it.
@metroidserver Well, in your opinion, it is
I really enjoyed your video because guys like this don't know how to critique films they nitpick their way into high heaven, but this fandom has ton of people with ego's an straight up worship along with general disingenuous.
He's a moron. One of the worst reviewers out there.
The CinemaSins is strong in this one
Even Cinemasins are better than this guy.
@@PlahaKumarNo, Cinemawins is better.
I found a user (not gonna say their name because I don’t want to get in trouble) called out Christian lake for his behavior and not handling criticism in part 3 of his into the spider verse rant,
and so Christian lake responded and said that the reason he can’t handle opinions is because he couldn’t handle the amount of love and praise the film was getting,
so he pretty much created a three part rant on into the spider verse as therapy for him not handling people liking the film,
and says that he may be viewed as a jerk for it but that’s the world they live in,
Ok I understand why he didn’t handle other people’s opinions on the movie, but that still doesn’t give him the right to death threat the writers or call people idiots for liking the film.
Christian must be the most tame Nostalgia Critic fan

I never knew someone could get that mad about a Christmas jingle, but now I know.
I'm glad when he complained about the Scorpion design it was about the legs and not him being latino lmao
It appears I stumbled across a gem of a video. That was very entertaining to watch and I can't wait to see more. Maybe not about debunking cringe reviewers, but maybe about some other stuff like games, anime, TV shows, or other comic book media.

My video made a cameo, great video dude! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
23:00 and now we can add sexism to his list of crimes…
I feel like if someone just breathes in this movie he will find a way to complain about it are minor at best and completely nit picky at worst I can’t go five seconds into his review without banging my head maybe if I did that enough then I could see his point do to all the brain damage
Felt like that when making the commentary.
Seeing how Miles is from the Ultimate universe this checks out and it's sounds like Lake isn't a big comic fan as he lets on
His dad is a victim lol
I legit thought he said that when I first watched it.
"why is Green Goblin a big monster?"
Because this story takes place on earth 1610, where Goblin is a big monster. Like ... This guy has to be joking.
Always awesome to see new slideshow commentators. Had a really good time watching this. Welcome to the SCC, Cyber Dragon! :)
Thanks, Campbell! I really appreciate seeing you and other SCC members in the comments, and I'm glad you and many others enjoyed the video.
This dude has no right to talk with his room like that
And here I thought the cringy angry reviewer fad was long dead. Good to see there are still some annoying kids around to try it.
Oooo, freshy slideshow commentator! :D
(Idk how long you've been in the slideshow commentary game, but someone that I knew of showed me this video.)
Great job on the commentary.
17:08 hey man thats mean.
Apologize to the towel
I was trying to check if there are any users commentary videos on this terrible rant of Spider-Verse, but somehow there are actually no commentaries on Christian Lake's Spider-Verse rant. Atleast this commentary existed which you already taking care of.
I was shocked about that, too. It was why I included that segment at the end.
33:02 It also doesn't help Christian's point that MJ's Peter and Peter B. have 2 separate actors.
I was thinking that same thing when I got to that part of the video, hilariously enough
I remembered being told by Spidey fans that only Peter Parker can be Spider-Man, and that Spider-Man is never a title to begin with.
32:23 MJ wouldn't recognize his voice. Both Peters were voiced by 2 different actors.
Problem 4: The Shoulder Touch
Yeah yeah, it's cringe, but like I said.
Problem 21: Post-Credits Scene
It's a classic Spider-Man meme, why wouldn't they reference it? It also didn't ruin the Spider-Man 2099 teaser, because again, _it makes you want to learn more about the character._ Also I want _more_ Spider-Man themed Christmas carols.
In Conclusion: Christian is Nitpicking and Biased
I win, bye bye!
Also because peter b parker and Blond peter are voice by different guys
@@axeltovar15737NITPICKING AND BIASED!
33:05 Even there
This Peter is 10 years older, has a different voice actor entirely (just because they're both Peter Parkers does't mean they would also sound the same) and she think her husband just died
I think it's quite reasonable for a person to not just make such a leap in logic, especially a character who we know so little about
How do we even know that Mary Jane was able to remember Peter details with such accuracy?
I mean, I myself spent my entire life with my family, yet if You asked me what's the eye color of some of them I wouldn't genuenly able to tell
Same if they even just put some sun-glasses and I didn't know they were there (to solidify even more how the Superman hidden identity does indeed works even if minimal)
First Nostalgia critic, then Cosmonaut variety hour, then S.K., now this guy has world just decided to hate Spider man.
Cosmonaut doesn’t hate spiderman though.
When did NC hate Spider-Man?
@@anth636 he doesn't like the Sam Raimi trilogy.
@@tylerbertram7065 he said he used to, but now is able to like them fine, including 3
@@anth636 sense when did that happen
Another reason the thing he said about MJ not recognizing Peter B’s voice makes no sense because PETER PARKER AND PETER B PARKER HAVE DIFFERENT VOICE ACTORS!!
I always thought the scene where he starts sticking to walls was a reference to the original Spider-Man comic.
I don't know about that, but that's because I haven't really read the comics.
31:03 Forgot to mention this, but the Prowler was very likely a know criminal in Miles universe
Miles don't hear him getting called by anyone once, yet when he goes back to May house where the other Spider-People are he says "My Uncle, he is The Prowler!"

There I am Gary! there I am!
Chadmaster7, I see we cross paths once again.
Man, this guy's voice is so ear grating
I mute him when his part of the video comes up
Also this video is an amazing debunk to a horrible reaction. And because of that, you are getting a new subscriber today.
I don't - or try not to - get angry at people like him, but all I'm left with is pity.
Same here dude, I can't be mad at him. Christian Lake has his own personal biases and opinions, it's just unfortunate for everyone else that he has a TH-cam channel to vent to.
:) And The Monster Design Of The Goblin Is A References To the Ultimate Spider-man comics
Oh And I Love Ultimate Goblin Design So ye
What a coincidence that this commentary was released on October 9th, because i released a Commentary on TrollsWorldTour2001's reviews on both of the Spiderverse movies on that same day
Damn sounds like the stars aligned that day.
Ive seen bad opinions from me, myself, and I. But dear lord... I think he might just be pointing out the smallest points he had pet peeves about only to make some half assed content that's not even entertaining. But only ironically, but idk.
Good content btw! Interested for more.
Love your Megaman X usage. Also THANK YOU FOR FINALLY POINTING OUT HOW MUCH OF FUNDAMENTAL FAILURES CHRISTIAN LAKE AND TROLLSWORLDTOUR FAN ARE!
God he almost feels like a troll
I just got here cuz that thumbnail got me tripping, i was like "is that mf mega man x" and now i seek answers
Spider-people are often tragic and use humor as a coping mechanism and it’s reflected in the movie.
this video is magical back off the goat
Wait isn't Peter b and Blondie Peter voice by different people
There are more bad Spider-Verse reviews out there, we live in a truly devided-to-bad world we are in.
So the MCU undermining its serious moments with jokes is good, but Spiderverse adding onto a scene with jokes that are perfectly in-character is somehow a bad thing?
I feel like this "kid" doesn't actually know why something happens onscreen and is just pissy at things he personally didn't like
I'd also like to add onto the Aaron thing because apparently to this guy he's "obviously the bad guy" but........where does he see that exactly? As far as I'm aware there's NO indication of Aaron being the Prowler whatsoever except maybe him getting a call from Kingpin at an odd time
Hold on so, the villains being pulled from other universes as a reason for their designs is good but them being from THIS MOVIE'S ALTERNATE UNIVERSE is somehow bad? That doesn't make sense at all, if anything it'd just be an extra line existing for no real reason. Could it have worked? Yeah, but so does what we got 💀
I know I'm three weeks late, but I stumbled upon this video and seriously liked it. As a smaller youtuber myself, I think you did a great job on your first video with a slideshow avator, and Megaman X was a great pick. Just subscribed, looking forward to watching more of your content.
Thanks, man! Really appreciate the comment.
@@Cyber_Dragon You're welcome, man! Keep up the fantastic work!
I swear listening to this guy is making my brain rot.
Not you, Dragon. You're great.
“da uwu” voice
Anyone else love how Christian Lake somehow thinks he is a better writer than the guys at Sony who made the plot of this movie? His alternate plot idea from around 24:00 in this video is interesting but the problem he doesn’t see and ignores is that it is too basic and not fleshed out at all. It is too funny how ignorant he is to how very flawed and bad his plot creating skills are
Haven’t finished the video. But I’m loving it so far. Keep up the great work. 🎉
Wow the guy realy is trying to be nostalgia critic in the very worst way.
Basically treating a movie that actually had things figured out story wise and art wise but shit like nicholas Cage being cast doesn't "add anything to the story"
Seriously, they could have casted Robert Downey Jr. to be Spiderman Noir and that still wouldn't technically add anything to the story because it's not a damn Spiderman noir movie.
He looks like shinji from evangelion
I’m sorry I have to point this out “they could have been villains from another universe”…. MOTHER FUCKING THIS IS a different universe!
He’s complaining about something when the solution already happened!
Welcome to the SCC, Cyber Dragon! As a new member myself, this was extremely entertaining to watch!
Thanks, man! Had a lot of fun putting the whole thing together, and I'm happy you guys enjoy it.
I will admit that I at first was not a fan of the design of Kingpin for Into the Spider-Verse, but over time it sort of grew on me. And I also let it go as the design for the sort of over exaggerated feel this movie went for in terms of the villain designs.
I thought it was trollsbandtogetherfan2001’s review because he’s on the thumbnail?
"I must destroy these videos! Once and for all" Please do, you would do us a huge favor!
Hey are planning on doing a commtary on Trollsbandtogatherfan2001 video rant on the Toy Story franchise because it sucks

This isnt just a bad review of Into the spiderverse. Its a terrible review period. Dude makes Patrick Star look like Albert Einstein
I refuse to believe you only have a couple hundred subs, this was a great video
Also “I am surrounded by idiots” is such a funny line coming from Christian of all people
