    This movie's big "fun fact" which I'm sure others will point out in the comments too, is the frame rate change. Before Miles gels with his powers, he's animated at only 12 frames per second, although the movie plays at 24 frames per second. This gives him that distinct comic-y jank. Then in the leap of faith shot he switches to 24 frames, becoming much smoother and more in tune to the environment. It's a brilliant creative decision that's easy to miss mechanically but still has huge emotional impact whether you are aware of it or not.

      @kenjutsukata1o1 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      The reason this one was good in the first place was because Sony didn't interfere at all. They just need to make a Spider-Man film every x number of years to hold on to the IP film rights, so this was a 'throwaway' film to fill the criteria of their contract, so they weren't all that invested in it beyond it's utilitarian purpose. It's a solid testament to how a studio staying out of the creative process can lead to amazing films. It's also why I'm concerned about the second film, because now that Sony realizes they have a hit on their hands it's likely they're going to meddle in the production.
      An example of executives trying to meddle with a sequel to an unexpected hit was the Deadpool films: Fox gave the first film a low budget and were hands-off because they had low expectations for it, which meant Ryan Reynolds and co. were able to fully flex their creativity and make the film they wanted. It was phenomenally successful, so when the sequel was greenlit the executives immediately started to meddle with the production (because for whatever reason they still have the mindset of 'if the film was great without our interference, surely our interference will make it even better!). Ryan Reynolds straight up told them that he'd take a 50% paycheck decrease if they'd fuck off, and thankfully they agreed and stopped meddling, and Deadpool 2 was able to be a very solid follow-up to the first.

    • @kevinkijowski5980
      @kevinkijowski5980 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@kenjutsukata1o1 I'm not an exec at Sony, but I think the people there would be smart enough to realize that if the success of spiderverse is due to creative freedom then it would be smarter to not meddle.
      I would also argue against it being just a 'throwaway' film. If they had it made just for its utilitarian purpose, it would have been smarter to make the animation closer to a Pixar or illumination style which would have been more appealing to a greater number of people. Making it live action would have also increased it's appeal. Even if they don't expect the movie to make hundreds of millions in profit, the main goal of studios is to make a profit overall. Instead of doing those things I mentioned, they allowed the movie team to use a completely unique animation style that likely made most people instantly write it off. I think that's indicative of Sony animation giving their creators freedom and having confidence in their visions.

    I love the fact that Peter Parker and Peter B. Parker are polar opposites. One is the guy that grew up from being the teen Spider-Man and found the best in everything, always positive, always pushing for the next day. Then you have tired, worn down, "I dont want to do this anymore" Spider-Man that has literally lost everything, even cries in the shower after loosing everything. What is awesome about this movie is that it's not JUST Miles Morales finding himself and learning to be Ultimate Spider-Man, but it's also Peter B. Parker having his own redemption arc. Through the whole movie, he's learning to love being Spider-Man again, and that is totally encapsulated in his last lines before travelling back to his own dimension: "How do I know I won't screw it up?" "You won't." ".... right... it's a leap of faith.... not bad, kid." Those last three words are what hammered the point home, because he realized that he was no longer the teacher... Miles taught him the one lesson he needed to know, that it wasn't all on him, it wasn't completely his burden to carry, and I love that they show him getting back with MJ at the end, filled with the new confidence. 😃

It predates the Simpson's Spider-Pig by a very long time. One of the big jokes was that Peter Porker was a spider who was bitten by a radioactive pig.

    If you stop at a split second, you can see one of the Fisk family variants where his son is blind. That would be a nod to Daredevil, since the two always come to blows in the comics. Meaning his son ends up as that Earths Daredevil.

    It’s the greatest animated movie ever for me. Super fun, great cast, extremely emotional, awesome animations and best movie soundtrack ever. Add the stylistic choices, like the framerate for miles, the on screen text being his thoughts and spider sense made visible and it’s a whole new level. You really feel that the creators had a blast with this one.

    Definitely my favorite Spider-man film, animated or otherwise.
    If you guys enjoyed the animation here and are open to watching more animated content with mature storytelling, I _highly_ recommend giving the Netflix series 'Arcane' a watch! Its the only thing that comes close stylistically, imo, and the story is incredible. Very different, but great if you want something you can really sink your teeth into.

    I love how much stuff was hand animated (like brow creases) on top of computer animated/CGI. The level of detail didn't have to be there, but they chose to because it made a better story. A small detail that I didn't notice first time through was that every time the foreground or background is "out of focus" it has to be drawn that way. They followed the way video cameras work in the real world to inform the audience's eye.

Theres also one of my favorite movie of all time, The Bad Guys, absolutely awesome. And of course Puss in Boots the Last wish. All these movies are amongst my favorites. I am sure you will enjoy all of them.

    I have to be honest, some years ago I thought the concept of react channels was weird and didn't really understand why people liked them so much. That being said there are a few react channels that I actually watch quite a lot, this one being one of them. I stumbled over it when your Harry Potter series got recommended to me for whatever reason and to be honest it's probably one of the best recommendations for channels I've been given in years. I'm being genuine when I say this because if I didn't believe it I wouldn't bother saying it. I genuinely really enjoy watching your videos, I don't watch every single one I'm not going to lie, like Avatar as I'm not interested in shows like that. But I really enjoy the film videos the most. I think the biggest thing I like about the channel is I don't get the impression that you fake your reactions, if you are then you lot should get into acting, haha. Because from what I see and from what I hear you don't sugar coat it, if you don't like something then you don't pretend and play it up for the views. As an example when Appleton was very clearly not feeling HP at the beginning. Anyway, I'll stop rambling now.

    So yes, all of the variant spider people are from the comics. See Spider-Man has always been linked very heavily with the multiverse in Marvel. In fact, Spider-Man is an absolute constant. That is to say, every single universe has some version of Spider-Man. Some universes have mutants, some don't. Some have magic, some do not. Every universe has a Spider-Man. Now all of these spider people are all linked by something called "The Web of Fate" & that is one of the foundational mechanics of the Marvel multiverse.

    One of the best animated movies of all time, it's visually creative, tells a beautiful and heartfelt story and is never dull. I adore it ^-^
    Also have a recommendation for y'all, though bring your tissues if you do watch this. Brendan Fraser just won an Oscar for his performance, for a movie called The Whale. I think it's an incredibly beautiful but hard film to watch, and would make for a very interesting reaction. (Though again, expect to cry, especially as parents)
    Considering what Brendan had to go through in his real life, with how Hollywood has spat him out due to him opening up about being SA'd when he was an actor, I feel it's important to support him and show Hollywood and everyone that we stand with Brendan ^-^

    I do not want to see a live-action take on this. It's too perfect as it is. I *suppose* a live-action Peter B. Parker would be cool... but look, I don't handle relational tension well. That's one reason I struggle with many of the Spider-Man movies. (I also get bad secondhand embarrassment, so teenage superheroes are rough.) I don't think I'd want an in-depth look at Peter B. Parker until after he's done with this little mid-life crisis.

    I absolutely loved this movie, but if I had to give a nitpick I would point out that it doesn't really make sense that Gwen shows up before the colider goes off. She has one throwaway line that the portal "threw her into last week," but none of the other Spider peeps time traveled. On top of that, her spider sense told her to go to visions academy despite Spider sense not being detailed enough to give directions in any other scene, it just gives vibes. Really, all of Gwen before her fight with doc ock felt like they wanted to include her so they made up contrivances to get her in the movie earlier.
