I think GM has come a long way. I know their quality sucked in the mid '90's to the mid 2000's, but they've improved greatly, as has every auto manufacturer. Nobody builds shit these days.
I just wish the 6.2 option was available on the PPV model instead and available to the public... larger brakes, better suspension (no magnetic ride nonsense), less electronics, way cheaper, and better looking.
I would never go back to driving my 5.3 L 2013 Tahoe now that I have a 6.2 RST. As far as the ride goes and your C+ score, you do realize as I am sure you do (you seem some what car knowledgeable) that as you noted not only does the Tahoe straddle or blur several lines between cross over and large SUV. What the RST really is at it's heart is a true Chevrolet Sport Truck? Which right off the top of my head I think the last one was the SS Blazer? Granted on broken roads my RST in 2 wheel drive is more bumpy than my 5.3 but that's the whole point of the MRC suspension and the sport tuning to said suspension. If you want a waterbed on wheels then by all means get the 5.3 and save the extra 20,000. Me? I am a GM Performance Enthusiast, I follow Chevrolet racing closely. The RST Tahoe is made for a niche market. Anyone else thinking of getting one, don't waste your money on the brakes, they don't do anything for stopping distance, just a decrease in fade, and those calipers are not on the rear. Borla exhust? ....meh sounds great, but I went regular because I want the rear exit twin exhust for my RST not the side exit. So I saved there, do not need rear seat entertainment with a 4G LTE hotspot and a tablet or phone. My little one uses an Ipad, saving there. Gas mileage with the way I drive is 12.5 avg and a best of 21.5 in the 168 miles I have put on it. Other than that I got my 2018 RST same color and wheels as your test truck (Tungsten Metallic), my interior is Jet Black not brown. For $70,125.00 TTL incl. It looks great sitting next to my wifes 2017 Nightfall Grey Mettalic SS with the LS3 and the MRC. :) Anyone who is serious about buying a Tahoe and understands what it is. DO NOT BUY A TRAVERSE. ITS A THROW AWAY FRONT WHEEL DRIVE UNIBODY. WITH A THROWAWAY ENGINE. That is why they have packed all that tech into it. It's perfect for the (husbands who don't know cars) to get for their ( wives who don't know cars) it's a really shiny and fancy pig, but a pig none the less. Hey if you have thirty thousands dollars to throw away and are ok with buying something that will last about 7 years and be worth jack shit when you go to sell it, by all means buy that polished turd. A QX60? Get out of here, a potato with a roof rack. I think not...and damn straight not happening for 65,000. No Dodges up in this Family. Great video I enjoyed your multiple camera angles. I wonder if you have ever done a review of the Chevrolet SS? You got a new sub also. :)
How is it or did it do? I read lots of problems with these newer gm cars...ac goes out, thermostat this, etc. I'm an old school 5.7 guy and they don't make them like they used to. I hear the 10 spd is good though.
@TheNeuel that's good news. I'm thinking about it and would get a 4wd one. I would actually like to do little lift on it but I know that setup makes more sense on a z71.
Have this exact RST, Love it!! If you didn't tell me i would think i was strapped into a new LZ1. If you are worried about the price - probably shouldn't be looking at new SUV's generally speaking, these new rigs are incredibly advanced..
Luv'n your multi-cam road view! You may be onto something! I'm sub'g for that reason alone! Also, your review is the first to mention the "Music Track/Volume" Controls on the back of the steering wheel! Sub'd! Yeah,...I know this is an old vid! But it's still worthy of a view in 2021!
You NEED to review the expedition. People need to know it has the best 3rd row in America, period. And I'd like to see how it does in your testing categories.
HI, we are shopping for a crossover or a SUV and a major thing that my wife cares about is power brake and accelerator pedals to raise and lower them. Nobody ever mentions it. It is on our minivan and she really loves not hugging the steering wheel as she is kind of short. I wish people mentioned it on their videos. also my wife wants a split coach seats in the middle and a bench in that back some can and some can't but it would be nice if it was mentioned.
What's the difference between the 5.3 and 6.2? Parts wise? Anyone know if the engines the same between the 5.3 and 6.2 with the only difference being the air intake plenum and throttlebody?
Always a great video Alex. Haven’t really considered the Tahoe / Yukon. Even in the Sportier version. I am still still looking at the 2018 Ford Expedition and Land Rover Discovery. Can’t wait till you get your hands on one and break it down for us.
what ... no comfort trunk index? from the rear shot it looked like it might have a split rear hatch, but then u never opened it up ... I really luv having a mini tailgate if it does in fact have that feature.
Alfredo Carrion - Exactly my thoughts! Seeing the cargo capacity with the rear seats folded down is especially important when considering this type of vehicle.
Please GM, move those shark fin antennas to the rear of the roof. It looks so cockeyed on the roof above the drivers position (at the 00:30 videomark).
Kyle Krug Many SUV's have roof rails and a shark fin antenna towards the rear of the roof. The cargo racks are raised above the roof rails while the antenna is much lower and slants toward the rear of the vehicle. It wouldn't interfere with a roof cargo carrier at all.
Love your videos. Is there a reason you shot the drivers seat description from the passenger seat? You usually have the camera outside of the vehicle so that we can see what the seating position looks like.
These things are so packed with profit. They literally cost twice what I paid for an SLT Yukon in 2001 - and I'm still driving it on the same engine and tranny. 310,000 miles. I'm looking at replacing it, but just don't know if I'm willing to fork over that kind of cash. Plus, their price point throws you into Q7 and Rover territory. I've seen them for $10K off though. You'll never see an Audi or RR Sport with that discount.
Alex, love your videos! Would however love if when you're discussing the materials on the dash, please include the info on the lower dash portion (like the glove box outer material), thanks!
Maybe I am missing something, but your reviews for the Nissan and Infinity claim 0.5 second slower 0-60 times than this which is counter to the videos statements. I wouldnt mention it, but since performance is really a major portion of this vehicle's identity, I believe this should be described correctly.
mountainhobo I considered buying a Tahoe when they made the 1st model in ‘95. I ended up buying a ‘96 Suburban instead. Glad I did. I still have it. The “Burb” has much better stability on the highway with the longer wheelbase. It’s built on the chassis of the regular cab long bed pickup instead of the regular cab short bed pickup like the Tahoe. (I also bought an ‘03 Chevy short bed regular cab pickup so I know from personal experience) The only good reason to buy a Tahoe is if a Suburban won’t fit in your garage, if that matters.
I also have a 03 long bed silverado which runs great only 153,000 miles on it 4 wheel drive extended cab, 1500 series, I messed up and wish I would have got one with leather seats instead of cloth, I also have a 99 suburban also 4 wheel drive 350,000 miles on her with leather seats, of I did have to replace the engine n transmisson on the suburban but its the better of the two especially for old trucker with back problems the leather seats helps much on longer trips, the silverado has been great except for hub bearings about every 35,000 miles, both getting around 16 mpg average but u dont buy these kind for fuel savings more for comfort n capacity, i gotta have 4 wheel drive for a very long driveway n north ohio winters, looking to get a newer surburban type vehicle for the wife to beat up on again , price kinda high I feel, but buy once cry once i guess, Godspeed.
Have you reviewed the new 2018 Chevy Traverse? We bought one recently and I think it's a MUCH better buy than the Tahoe not too mention it actually has more storage too.
Bryan Mise I am deciding between the 2018 Traverse Premium vs 2018 Ford Explorer Platinum. How is the auto start/stop feature? I don’t know if that feature will annoy me over time.
I don't even notice when the auto start/stop feature happens but I know it does because you can see the RPM gauge go to that position. I don't think that you would have a problem but see if you can do an overnight test drive to check it out more. Besides I don't think that the Explorer would give you as much room as the Traverse. We LOVE our Traverse! Hope this helps.
Over $75,000 for a Chevy RST. Key Word Chevy. I’ll take ANY Lexus SUV over this ANY Day. This is for that family that can afford a Corvette but needs a soccer mom SUV.
Towing with a 5,000 boat/trailer... what’s the fuel economy then? 13-14 mpg? Tired of truck/suv reviews with absolutely no testing of trailer handling and performance.
I’d love to see your take on the new Expedition. Looks superior to the Tahoe in just about every way - has way more interior room since it’s not body-on-frame (I think?).
Or maybe you two idiots don't know reading comprehension, it's irrelevant that other models have real wood, my point is they need to stop using that ugly shiny fake shit period.
So now we start with the personal insults! I’ll pass on any rebuttal and refrain from adding to your ignorance of what you said and stick to our original comments.
Dale I actually really loved my tahoe and getting this was cause I needed something lower to the ground. But I LOVE MY NEW TRAVERSE. Has more space inside and some really good features that haven’t been included in the new tahoe. I definitely recommend it and the Redline Edition gives a great look on the outside.

agreed, build quality looks shit, typical GM has not fucken learned a thing.

I just wish the 6.2 option was available on the LT trim instead of being forced to option a near fully loaded Premier.

@TheNeuel that's good news. I'm thinking about it and would get a 4wd one. I would actually like to do little lift on it but I know that setup makes more sense on a z71.
Love the Z71. The new one is awesome with functional skid plates and the 6.2. The independent rear suspension is a game changer.

Is it me or does this guy look like one of the vampires from the blade movies. I do like how fast he gets threw the details of the truck.
Hey Alex,
Did you notice any unusual vibrations or buffeting?
If you open a rear side window at speed you get alot of buffeting
@@ianwally818 I think that would occur with any vehicle.
Looks great!
You're an awesome reviewer btw 😃
You NEED to review the expedition. People need to know it has the best 3rd row in America, period. And I'd like to see how it does in your testing categories.
Fantastic reviews, thanks for the Durango-Tahoe comparison at the end.
Cant wait until you get your hands on a expedition/navigator alex
Does this have the Stamped Steel Front Control Arms ???
or the Forged Aluminum Control Arms

Love your videos. Is there a reason you shot the drivers seat description from the passenger seat? You usually have the camera outside of the vehicle so that we can see what the seating position looks like.
This set up is nothing new. Cadillac and GMC have been doing this. Chevy is just late putting the 6.2 in the Tahoe.
