Hey Tim I know it's scummy but I am happy that all the chef's are supporting their colleagues, it was better that way, people are coming together to support who are suffering
doesn't seem scummy. it's too easy for simple minded people to think that it's about race, and ignore the fact that sohla's been there for only 10 months, and that no one forced her to take the job, and that no one forced her to be in any videos, and that she's using the tangentially-related issue with adam as a way to complain about her pay while not realizing that she doesn't pull in as many viewers as the likes of brad and claire.
You probably already know this, but Clarie left the test kitchen as staff a while ago, and up to this point, as I understand it, is just a freelance editor that is hired to film and work.
@@GoatDust I'm not saying I understand her plight. I'm just saying I understand the need to go home and just drink some whiskey. That was probably a pretty dumb joke, in retrospect.
I'm going to be honest here; hearing about this definitely sucks, and I think less of BA for it. However, I'm just glad that for once, the people I like it for, the show hosts and the chefs, didn't turn out to be awful, like usually seems to happen in these exposes.
I think it's people higher up in the food chain. They don't give much of a shit because as long as money is made, BIPOC are shown, they think everything is fine. I really do respect Sohla on a whole new level now. She's creative and incredibly talented and undermined only because of the colour of her skin. She's used as a prop! I'm sure Adam was so embarrassed at his (and others'!) exposure so he did the one thing that would pull him out of the equation. I find that deeply upsetting, when he could make an example of himself and take responsibility. I really do hope other EIC's and bosses take a lesson. Change from this kind of treatment is overdue at this point. I loved BA for the fun and creativity. I agree with you, it's like a slap into reality when the safe little bubble of the internet turns out to have ice and thorns hidden in it. I'm so glad Sohla got her moment to speak out. That clip where Adam calls Priya, "Sohla" and didn't realise his mistake until she actually corrected him was utterly cringy and painful to watch. That's basically an indirect way of showing that all BIPOC appear the same, as they are all used in the same way where they're only in the background as extras with no recognition for their personal skills and expertise.
Uhhhhhh might want to have held onto that feeling: Delany ain’t great (he’s a creep, let’s be real), and Sohla’s said that Brad is more or less clueless to race issues - her tone isn’t angry or accusatory so we can assume he’s just innocently oblivious, rather than an asshole, but still.
Oh plx...most of them are opportunist vultures. You think this is first time Sohla brought it up? How naive can people be... employees talk about issues amongst themselves and stuff like this is the big open secret of the company. They all just played the SJW card now when it would be expected of them ...( Being internet personality and all) and most of these talents can roll into other channels and comfortably make their own YT channel now..
“African recipes are tricky”-says the company who hosts “It’s Alive”, a show where they once made cured ostrich and duck yolks. I’ve never even SEEN an ostrich egg, much less a cured one. But of course. African foods are just too “foreign” and “confusing”.
@@emboe001 okay you are getting on my last nerve. I've seen you all over this comment section and you just make no sense. How are these people antisemitic? Where did they reference Adam's faith? You can tell she doesn't want to appear in videos, and the reasons she's there is she's pretty much forced to. Watch the videos where Adam appears in BA. You can tell EVERYONE is pissed off at Adam. And what are you talking about "where is your evidence" and "only Sohla was making racist remarks."? When Sohla came forward, TONS of her coworkers and former workers for BA confirmed what she was saying. Even Adam stepped down and admitted he was unfair. If someone comes forward and says they're depressed or suicidal or something, you're going to be the dickhead that tells them "nahhhhhhh you're not depressed. I know you better than you do"?
Definitely. I remember them cooking a bolognese together and she was so annoyed by him. I couldn't tell if he was being a jerk to be cute or if she really found him annoying. I think there was a chicken parm video too where she was notably annoyed the whole time because he was so arrogant.
@slow poke uh Molly is awesome as hell. Look at the videos where they go out on the street asking people's opinion, she always asks BIPOC to be a part of the video and their opinion.
Tane Right, she should’ve been born white if she wanted a fair contract. LOLOL Nobody is saying she shouldn’t have taken the job. They’re saying she should’ve been valued more but wasn’t due to the color of her skin.

She has only been there 10 months. And while I think she has what it takes to be favorable on video and in the test kitchen, one's skill at the professional restaurant level does not always translate into being a good test kitchen chef targeted at the home cook. Nor does it make you a favorable or interesting video talent. Again, I think she does have the necessary qualities but like any job I have ever had in my 40+ years of working, there is always a test period to see if you fit the bill....regardless of your level of experience. As a university professor, I see this arrogance from a lot of young people who believe they should graduate and automatically get a job in middle to upper management. Sometimes you have to start in the mailroom.....and this is especially true if you are changing career paths....which is exactly what Sohla is doing going from the restaurant chef level to providing recipes and advice to the home cook.
@@dbreardon I was going to keep reading but you killed everything with: "one's skill at the professional restaurant-level does not always translate into being a good test kitchen chef targeted at the home cook" -- lmao what the fuck. Update: Sohla, Rick, and Priya have all left BA channel after BA failed to meet negotiations. BA is also interviewing new BIPOC video hosts who are willing to be overworked and underpaid.
That's how it works. If they want to continue the channel they have to raise the offer until someone agrees to work for that amount. It's not their goal to just give away money. They are a company with the goal of making profit and growing.
@@Mobin92 what are you even talking about? It's their goal to make profit but if they're doing it by exploiting and underpaying bipoc then it's clearly wrong when their white counterparts are well paid.

I'm surprised they don't have TH-cam shows of their own, would be so much fun to hear more about their personalities and their lives outside of cooking and everything, without editors constraining them and forcing them to do specific things
And of course if white people actually did make Costa Rican food or African food they would be accused of cultural appropriation. It just goes to show how racist POCs are.

But she doesn’t have her own show. Why would it make sense to pay her equally to someone like Claire who is their star and the one who brings all the views? They can give her her own show and if it’s as successful as Claire’s then it would make sense to pay her as much.
@@ViaticalTree they use her for the image of diversity but don't see value in the kind of cooking she can do. That is still problematic. They use her for money. there are videos she is in where she takes up a significant amount of time.

Tbh she isn't my favorite. The reason I even watch BA yt is for It's Alive, Pro chef tries (aka Claire's show) and that's really it. Sohla does deserve to be paid for the work she does and so does everyone period, but pushing her now feels like a pity comeuppance vs she deserves it.
I already suspected this albeit I was also like, "it is what it is." But the signs were already there. 1. The BA was overwhelmingly white. Almost all leadership positions were taken by white people. They barely made a dent on this issue with the addition of Sohla, Phriya, Gabi, Andy and sometimes Chaey 2. Rappo always gave an awkward vibe whenever he's featured. Many people had pointed out occasions where Molly barely could contain the urge to eyeroll whenever Rappo appeared. 3. Sohla in particular is always a stand out feature whenever she appeared in a video. She seems to be much more experienced than her peers, even those who are above her position. She taught and assist Claire, Brad and Chris chocolate tempering many times. She's the one who turned carbonara into a dessert.

I watched WHO's video and what I got from Dr Maria's statement was that asymptomatic carriers rarely spread the disease, but people with very mild symptoms (that are often not similar to and not recognised as clinical symptoms of a severe covid-19 infection) are being labelled as asymptomatic. For example, if I woke up and had a bit of a sore throat, that's not a symptom of covid-19, but if I was infected I wouldn't be a TRUE asymptomatic carrier, but I'd be labelled as one as I don't have a fever or a cough.
Yup. If you’re infected and about to get the common symptoms (any fever/shortness of breath/cough), you’d be pre-symptomatic. They’re as able to infect you as actively sick patients. Asymptomatic people are the ones who get the virus in their systems, but never get the common symptoms or any symptoms at all. Eye infection or winter toes and nothing else can be asymptomatic covid-19. People can be immune carriers. From the limited studies we have, it’s incredibly rare to catch this virus and not really get sick from it because it attaches to proteins we need to survive. Especially proteins that manage your blood pressure, without them your blood pools to your legs and you pass out. I’m less susceptible to the virus because I have a blood pressure disorder that’s caused by a shortage of that protein. I’d likely be an asymptomatic carrier. The main two reasons why spread by asymptomatic carriers is so rare is because 1) asymptomatic carriers are rare

Your salary should be based on research you do for yourself, taking into consideration your own experience, training, and flexibility. This way you do not compare yourself directly to your coworkers, but rather to a national average. In turn, this points out to the company that they are underpaying people based on a NATIONAL average, rather than just paying someone more because they complained about getting paid less than a coworker. Your pay should reflect YOUR OWN experience, loyalty, and aptitude for the job. If you are offered a job for significantly less than what you have determined based on market average in your location, that should be a sign that others there are not well paid, and that you should look for employment elsewhere. Doing the research in advance will save you from having to question your colleges after getting hired, or from trying to memorize everything your coworkers have ever or will ever do. However, if you're the AVERAGE American, you just need a job, and that is about as far as your research goes.

@Zwenk Wiel , well this photo sparked conversation and people working for BA joined said conversatiom and shared their experiences which show some... disparity in pay and systematic racism (i hope i am using this term here correctly, correct me if i am wrong) which are not from 16 years ago, but rather from this year or last year, or ongoing. Third, me personally, I would consider it “cultural appropriation” if there was videos of Adam actively mocking and wearing the “costume” with malice, the picture has yet to convince me. Otherwise, I don’t know how it can’t just be cultural appreciation and a bad joke, on Halloween no less.

stapuft I’m sorry are you even qualified to make that assumption? Every chef in the BA Test Kitchen is working there because they are extremely skilled chefs. You’ve watched one or two videos of Claire and you assume she’s not qualified? Focus on the fact that BICOP chefs aren’t getting paid equally which is the whole discussion and quit pitting people against each other.
To everybody saying we shouldn’t cancel someone because of a picture: if this was JUST about the picture I’d 100% agree with you, but it seems that it was more of a catalyst for the staff to speak up about bigger issues. If the environment in the BA test kitchen was inclusive and welcoming towards everybody we would be seeing statements like: ‘This picture’s bad but working with him is great, this doesn’t represent him’ or something like that, but it’s clear there’s bigger issues here like Sohla being underpaid! Edit: also Sohla’s cinnamon date buns are AWESOME and you should all try them I just wanted to say that
Sohla was hired 10 months ago? Why should she make more than those who have been there for years? You can have a great resume but that doesn’t mean you are better than those already employed. She agreed to her salary....
humannamedhannah I partly agree with you, but Sohla and the other BIPOC staff weren’t getting paid for appearing in videos, where they did just as much work as everybody else which I don’t think is fair! She also said in an interview that she was pushed to do way more work than she was told she’d be doing when signing the contract, so this isn’t fair either.
This. If he wasn't also actively suppressing diversity in his company, he would've been able to get away with an apology most likely. The demand for him to step down from the BIPOC folks likely stemmed from a history of mistreatment and this was the last straw.

Hiya everyone! For those that wanna support Sohla, she's on Babish Culinary Universe channel on TH-cam now (previously Binging w/ Babish)! She's having her own series on cooking on there now :)
I think it has more to do that he's dressing up as a race, rather than a specific person. Also, that seemed to be just a catalyst for exposing an already existing problem.
The story about BA is upsetting I love their TH-cam channel I've been on a marathon latley and have seen all of the names mentioned and more it was 16 years ago but yes he definitely needs to pay people equally I hope this doesn't mean the end for BA

@@olszewski422ify That would be true if an on-screen personality is her only role at BA, but it isn't. The fact that a wage gap exists for no reason but skin color.
@Porkchopsrock12 Which is what has happened. She's just unhappy with what she agreed to accept. I can sympathise with her while thinking this isn't the time for her to push her personal grievances. She can SAY it's part of the same problem, but I'm thinking she jumped at 50k a year (20k more than the US median & comfortably in the middle class, right? I'm a Brit so I know wages don't directly translate bc various costs are so different) I just think the situation is being cynically exploited and people are gish galloping to pressure management. Make 10 accusations and hope that at least 1 sticks, know that your audience will support you over management they don't know and will hate by default (who REALLY likes their "big" bosses?) The irony of my criticising her is that I'm still on her side. I hope BA reforms and there's a more fair compensation system. I just think the problems of middle class food critics shouldn't be sharing air space with men literally being murdered by the government (police brutality) or the very real issue of poverty & incarceration affecting black communities at higher rates (though as a socialist, I think we should be addressing poverty and criminal justice, which will naturally impact affected communities most, though I get that's an unpopular position atm and at least currently is insensitive. But I think we should be putting out the house fires, not seeing that more blue houses are on fire than red, so focusing all our effort on blue houses, whether they're on fire or not... if you get my torture of that overused analogy)
It was more than 16 years ago and seems to have been dug up. As for the rest of it, it seems like they should verify the claims. If it's as clear cut as indicated (they contested at least one egregious assertion and others sounded anecdotal and like interpretation), then they have problems. But elsewhere people have resigned and admitted fault where there was some suggestion that they were doing the honorable thing. If you've lost the ability to be in charge, then some people will fall on their sword for the good of the organisation even if they privately disagree with the characterization of things. Fighting with your own talent isn't really viable. Claims like only paying certain groups for work should be verifiable. The claim by that lady indicating that she was installed as an underling to white people with less experience than her is something that could be examined. Unless it's incorrect or there's some other reason (experience was just one facet), it sounds beyond concerning.
I’ll be honest. As a Black woman and seeing the picture from 16 years ago, that is in no way a brownface. I hate that people are using something that is hurtful for us in the black community just to take a jab at someone. Do I agree with how they treat their employees? No. I’m only talking about the photo situation in this case. There’s been worse cases of brown/black face like when Gucci made a sweater in which the para around the lips where red and that is considered blackface. What he had was a TAN! Sure he was maybe in clothes that depicted PR culture but that’s it. We are in difficult times and using these terms just to bash someone takes away the whole purpose of the protests. If someone is looking back to 16 freaking years it’s because they want to hurt that person and use something that is not theirs to achieve that. I don’t know the context in which that photo was taken but I can tell you that it is NOT a brownface. I just needed to get this out of my chest.
It doesn’t mean he made his skin brown. His costume was simply that he was a Puerto Rican person. You can not pretend to be someone of another race for Halloween. A different race shouldn’t be your costume, that’s weird.
funny enough one of the BA editors back then commented something along the lines of "good costume,we were so afraid of you that night".. and got questioned for that on twitter
@@mjwest4968 I went as a different gender for Halloween. (No, I am not trans.) I went as an ancient Egyptian to another Halloween. I went as an elderly person to another - back when I was well under 40. Lighten up. (That being said, it seems like Conde Nast and Adam R. do have OTHER policies to answer for, and hopefully rectify.)
You can't work for someone without them paying you in America, unless you sign a contract expressly to do so. it's straight up illegal otherwise. If they weren't compensated every one of them has simple and obvious legal recourse. So if they didn't take that recourse to get their pay, them they were either cool with it, or they had an agenda.
Should probably hit the bell button. TH-cam doesn't notify anymore and just shows subscriptions unless you purposely active notifications and I'm fine with it.
Yeah...but it's less funny when you realize he wouldn't put a PR on camera or pay them what he pays white folks. Suddenly, dressing as a stereotype seems less funny.
I'm gonna be real. I vehemently disagree agree with people using old posts or photos from years and years ago as a reason to destroy someones character. Everyone changes and grows and has the capability to do so. It's a photo of him from 16 years ago. A lot of people used to do shit that's considered insensitive and poor taste by our current standards. Was it still kinda shitty? Yeah. But it's been 16 years. I'm not saying that he didn't do other things within the company that were shitty, but a picture from 16 years ago should not be the only cause for such a manhunt. We all supported James Gunn when he had his little "scandal" with the insensitive tweets from several years ago, why is this different? That being said, I support BA staff and I hope this inspires change and the BIPOC get their fair pay. I just don't know if I agree with the super hate on Rapoport solely based on that photo of him. (Edited for clarity because I wrote this before watching most of the video after only having read the BA staff and community posts)
The photo didn’t help but I think it isn’t about him as much as it is about the structure of the company and it’s failings. Often people ask for the head of a company to leave when there’s a systematic problem
I’m sure a lot of people cancelling him now were probably racist in the past too.Or didn’t even realise they were being racist.I hate cancel culture it just seems toxic and guilty ppl internally projecting.

Wow, I watch BA test kitchen literally all the time, they all seem so close and friendly on camera. Scary to see that there was so much going on behind the scenes, I would not have imagined this, but it at least warms my heart to see them standing together.
The cast and editors of Bon Appetit should honestly just leave that whole dumpster fire and join up together on their own channel. They made BA's YT channel great, not the other way around.
And when you think about it New Zealand is rather out of the way for heavy air traffic as well. After all the virus start on west coast of USA then spreads through heavy airplane traffic cities then lightly populated regions ie Wyoming, alabama for example: was the last to be hit.
This is a brand new virus and research takes time. It's so hard to track asymptomatic people because you don't know who they are unless you test at random, which we didn't have enough tests to do. Then you can't find out how many people they can infect because once you know they have the virus it's not ethical to let them go about their lives and infect people. This virus kills people. The only way you can calculate the infection rate of that person is by contact tracing. People come into contact with so many people daily that you don't know. It's impossible to track down some random person you shared a street corner with for 5 minutes one random day. And that's for one person. Humans are such highly variable systems that it takes a lot of people in a study to get any meaningful data. You clearly have no idea how science works but are so quick to call it bullshit anyway. Maybe find out how things work before you criticize them.
Can't really blame them. So many government's around the world are refusing to follow proper data procedures, meaning expert or not, the WHO can not always accurately detail what is going on. Look at Brazil for instance. Their leader is literally refusing to condone proper counter measures, writing it off as bullshit. Millions of peoples data from his provinces alone, will never be viewed properly by WHO and other officials , making a large portion of their capabilities mute. And that's just one example.
Yeah but they sure know a fuck load more about viruses and infection rates than literally anybody else. Who gives a fuck that they aren't 100% perfect because their basic knowledge is still better than anything else we have
As a Black American, I noticed MONTHS ago that they didn’t have 1 single BLACK PERSON as a chef 👩🍳. I don’t believe for a *second* the rest of the mostly white or white passing staff cared until this shit hit the fan. It doesn’t matter if the Black chefs don’t get as many views, there’s all kinds of black cuisine that should be seen just as much as other POC foods being featured. I was wondering why I hadn’t seen a post and I am GLAD Conde Naste and all of their racism is being seen for what it blatantly was I remember I left a comment about it and the white people/non black POCs that went on the attack 🥴😒🙄
It doesn't have to be specifically putting on makeup. Sometimes, black/brown/etc. face is just used to mean someone dressing up as a racial stereotype. For instance, when they had white actors squint their eyes & tighten their faces to play Asian characters in old movies, it was called "yellow face" even though wearing yellow makeup wasn't actually part of it (since movies were in black & white in those days).
@@SeraphimCramer But then people parody things white people do all the damn time, we can't have double standards no matter which way they flow. Racism is racism, but I think we need to apply commonsense, and yes I think the cheap parody that "rappo" did is probably crossing a line. We need to be careful that what we are calling for is equality and egalitarianism and not simply cancel culture.
I thought he was dressed as the stereotype of the Latino gangster in general, maybe with a bit of Miami spin. That reads as a character to me and not a specific race or nationality, and 16 years ago I think it would read that way to most people. It's only in the hyper-sensitivity of the last few years that it reads racist. How come nobody is calling out Luis Guzmán for agreeing to play that stereotype so often? Is the stereotype _not_ racist if a Latino actor portrays it? I get casting a white actor to play a Latino role is whitewashing, but this is a costume, not a paid acting role. So the question becomes whether the costume itself is racist, which should apply no matter who wears it. A black person wearing minstrel blackface is still wearing a racist costume. Spike Lee's _Bamboozled_ faced some criticism for this reason, despite clearly being satirical. Of course, Mel Brooks' _The Producers_ was similarly controversial and was the same basic premise.

The whole BA thing just makes me sad that the nice little warm, comforting area of the internet is also scummy. 😭
@Glyn wtf
good name He’s a troll. Don’t even bother.
Hey Tim
I know it's scummy but I am happy that all the chef's are supporting their colleagues, it was better that way, people are coming together to support who are suffering
doesn't seem scummy. it's too easy for simple minded people to think that it's about race, and ignore the fact that sohla's been there for only 10 months, and that no one forced her to take the job, and that no one forced her to be in any videos, and that she's using the tangentially-related issue with adam as a way to complain about her pay while not realizing that she doesn't pull in as many viewers as the likes of brad and claire.
That’s what happens when you let powerful white people make decisions.
BA dies if Claire leaves and I’m so glad she’s spoken up too.
Amsi I was glad to see her in the list.
100%. I don’t think they’d recover if they lost Claire lol
It's brad, no offense to Claire but Brad is the goat.
I didn't know she had such a big following. Bon Appétit always seemed like an equivalent to Vogue's youtube channel.
You probably already know this, but Clarie left the test kitchen as staff a while ago, and up to this point, as I understand it, is just a freelance editor that is hired to film and work.
Sohla shooting whiskey STRAIGHT and saying she was going to home to drown in alcohol makes so much sense now.
I always felt like I identified with Sohla in that way (even though I'm a white male).
uhh a lot of us drink whiskey straight haha, there's nothing noteworthy about that.
she owned that cocktail making episode
Colin A you’re so pathetic
GoldnDusty lmaooo why is Delaney a creep? Just by his general attitude or did he do some fishy stuff? And where can I see Sohla speaking about Brad?
You should think less of their editor in chief not the whole of of BA

And what are you talking about "where is your evidence" and "only Sohla was making racist remarks."? When Sohla came forward, TONS of her coworkers and former workers for BA confirmed what she was saying. Even Adam stepped down and admitted he was unfair. If someone comes forward and says they're depressed or suicidal or something, you're going to be the dickhead that tells them "nahhhhhhh you're not depressed. I know you better than you do"?
The fact that Molly never really got along with Adam makes so much sense now
Definitely. I remember them cooking a bolognese together and she was so annoyed by him. I couldn't tell if he was being a jerk to be cute or if she really found him annoying. I think there was a chicken parm video too where she was notably annoyed the whole time because he was so arrogant.

She has only been there 10 months.

But even so, if she was hired for one job and now doing an additional job, shouldn’t she get compensated ? She contributes quite a bit. And why haven’t they given her her own show yet? It’s clear all the fans want it
Not saying she deserves as much as Claire but she does deserve some sort of compensation for an appearance in a video
They barely made a dent on this issue with the addition of Sohla, Phriya, Gabi, Andy and sometimes Chaey
She's the one who turned carbonara into a dessert.
she failed the carbonara challenge and chris had to help her get it finished, tbh
ThickemsUP He just gave her some pasta water. They had a bit of a time limit, but with an extra hour, she would have finished it just fine. You’re as salty as Andy’s pasta water.
I was looking for the carbonara comment. Sohla is sooo fricking talented!! she deserves better

Thank you for the clarification on this.

Yeah my salary is private you can post yours at literally any time you want
@@ryans5073 lol
100% agree.
particularly at companies like this that produce youtube videos, the people are always making way less then they should. There are people on buzzfeed who could make 10 times more if they werent in buzzfeed because they are fan favorites, but make way less because theyre unknowingly accepting horrible contracts.

So, this man who decides which restaurant, dish, cuisine to cover is directly responsible for not covering african/puerto-rican cuisine/culture and also responsible for paying lip-service to idea of diversity by covering asian restaurants. While said photo is old but it was a spark that landed in a bunch of dry grass and that is what sparked such fire. If there was no other people speaking out about practices in BA which this guy directly responsible for there would be no dry grass to spark such fire/outrage. So he is not being called out and resigning for stuff he did 16 years ago, but rather for the ongoing problems. If it was one photo, it would blow over just how clip of that comedian doing black face for a skit blew over.

I’m a person of color and that’s brown face? To me, that looks like poor lighting, his usual tan, and bad camera quality of the time. I don’t think the guy should be reprehended on the picture alone tbh. It’s who he was, not who he is
Edit: So apparently it’s his costume in the picture that’s offensive rather than his skin color. First, wouldn’t that be considered “cultural appropriation” than “brown face”? Second, his costume just looks like casual street wear of the time: a white tank top tee with a baseball jacket and hat, and a chain necklace. Third, me personally, I would consider it “cultural appropriation” if there was videos of Adam actively mocking and wearing the “costume” with malice, the picture has yet to convince me. Otherwise, I don’t know how it can’t just be cultural appreciation and a bad joke, on Halloween no less.
I think by "brown face" they mean the costume, not that he actually painted his face.
it seemed like he meant to take that photo in that pose with that lady. it didn't just BOOOM and accidentally black face. NO this is a grown ass man that should face the consequences of his dumbass actions.
100% agreed. Context matters; Justin Trudeau did blackface but was forgiven because he's since been one of the biggest advocates for BIPOCs, LGBTQ, etc. Unfortunate that Adam Rapoport had to take the fall here.
If you watch BA videos the chefs constantly take shots at Adam. I can tell even a year ago that nobody seems to like him. That’s why this picture ruined him. If the staff liked and backed him, he’d still be employed.

Exactly
Like she was told she’d be testing recipes and helping other chefs, but then she had to go in front of the camera and create her own recipes! And she was still getting paid as much as she was before:(

the brown face photo doesn't even look like he changed his skin color
I think it has more to do that he's dressing up as a race, rather than a specific person. Also, that seemed to be just a catalyst for exposing an already existing problem.
As a brown person the brown face upsets me less than the issues considering workplace culture and compensation that were brought to light.
I know right? Had the video paused just to look at the two photos trying to see the difference.
calling it 'brown face' is stupid.
I think the biggest issue for most was the unfair treatment of POCs and lack of diverse dishes and stuff. The pic was just what broke the camels back.
The story about BA is upsetting I love their TH-cam channel I've been on a marathon latley and have seen all of the names mentioned and more it was 16 years ago but yes he definitely needs to pay people equally I hope this doesn't mean the end for BA
This is America, you should only get paid what you bring in. Sola has some of the lowest viewed videos on the channel, Claire and Brad by far the most viewed. Why should someone not bringing in eyes be paid as much as the people bringing in the money.
Not as much. But she should be paid for her videos.
@@olszewski422ify That would be true if an on-screen personality is her only role at BA, but it isn't. She is also an editor, and seems to have much more experience then her colleagues so she should be getting paid as much as them, if not more, on that front. That is what this is actually about. The fact that a wage gap exists for no reason but skin color.
@Porkchopsrock12
Which is what has happened.
I'm a Brit so I know wages don't directly translate bc various costs are so different)
I just think the situation is being cynically exploited and people are gish galloping to pressure management. Make 10 accusations and hope that at least 1 sticks, know that your audience will support you over management they don't know and will hate by default (who REALLY likes their "big" bosses?)
The irony of my criticising her is that I'm still on her side.
Ill be honest. I always got weird vibes from Adam when he showed up in videos.
Yeah you can tell that claire gets uncomfortable when he’s arround
Everyone gets uncomfortable when he’s around
Yep, I stopped watching their live show cause he was in it
he has the slimey second hand car salesman who does cocaine and drinks blue coloured alchoholic drinks on the weekends vibe.
@@alexnewbold8823 YES EXACTLY. He looks like he'd reprimand somebody for being hungover at work, then go snort ketamine on the weekend
I thought the exact same thing. Seems like some hidden agendas
"It would be inaccurate to report that..." is legal-speak for "I can't deny it without being caught in a lie".
This isn't accurate. I can't give you specifics because it either is accurate or those details would show it's as bad or worse than you already think.
Long time, first time. Bon appetit breaks my heart and I'm glad to see many of the personalities stand up in solidarity.
Also WATSKY YUSSSSSS
Im actually getting sick of youtube not notifying me when you upload, I have all notifications on for everything on youtube
Even notifications for replies ain't working guessing 50% of the time.
Me to!!!! But they fucking give me notifications for videos and channels I don’t follow or care about! So annoying
Should probably hit the bell button. TH-cam doesn't notify anymore and just shows subscriptions unless you purposely active notifications and I'm fine with it.
As a NY Puerto Rican guy, rappos n his wife outfits were pretty spot on lol
😂 I was thinking the same thing, like, points for accuracy
Dude I thought, why the fucking fuss. We got a porrorac who made it. Right on the money.
Aliya F You think black people or people of color are acting out internal guilt they feel for systematic racism in the company?
I definitely did not get the notification until this new upload so thank you for that!
I'm almost certain I already watched this episode
nope... that was just a dream
So did I!
I got the receipts! From the first time this was up lol
@@PhilipDeFranco *John Cena voice* are you sure about that?
@@PhilipDeFranco I am originally from Turkey, and I wrote the cordinates on phils shirt to google maps, went to street view and there was a DHL truck with a commercial for Istanbul Turkey... is this a hidden message for me?!!!
Wow, I watch BA test kitchen literally all the time, they all seem so close and friendly on camera. Scary to see that there was so much going on behind the scenes, I would not have imagined this, but it at least warms my heart to see them standing together.
He dresses as a Puerto Rican once and didn't extra pay the assistant for her performance on camera. What a monster!
The cast and editors of Bon Appetit should honestly just leave that whole dumpster fire and join up together on their own channel. They made BA's YT channel great, not the other way around.
I wish Jacinda Ardern was my president. I'm so jealous.
She's also a DJ.
you'd change your mind if you knew the poluations feelings on it all, it's not as it seems
@@John-gm8ty She's the most popular PM in a century. Stop talking shit.
Jacinda's the best, up there with Helen Clark!
She really stepped up whether with the horrible tragedy of the christchurch shooting or the worldwide covid pandemic.
All I see with the WHO story is that they still don't know what's going on and they're the experts in this field...
Its called CCP propaganda. The WHO has an infection itself, which needs to be dealt with.
I was about to make this comment. i have never seen a black person as a chef or staff member. Not ONCE.
Amira Azzouzi they had a black woman twice for African cuisine but she hadn’t been seen in months.
!!!!! THIS !!!!!!
"I dont believe for a second the rest of the mostly white staff cared until shit hit the fan" tbh I still dont care after the shit has hit the fan.
I knew bon appetit came off too positive.
There were secrets in those cabinets.
yup very scary secrets indeed xD
Shame, but I guess being in the public eye gives you a platform to shoot down injustices that plague many corporations
huh one of the reasons I watched BA was due to the diverse staff, kept hoping to see more but now I know why that wasn't happening
Yep same I always wanted to see a show with sohla cause I like her vibe but it almost never happens
Holy shit, you people are so obsessed with race and diversity. Such a non issue
How much more diversity do you want? Literally 1 person of every race, creed, sexual orientation? Its a food channel, not the God damn United Nations.
super proud to see New Zealand making an appearance in the PDS!
This video made me realize I hadn't seen a BA video in awhile. I had no idea all this was happening!
Phil posing in shades like a young dad trying to be cool made my day
The chefs of ba are literally my favorite people in the world
sad life
Yikes
Lol why y'all need to bash on them for liking chefs
You don’t even know them though...
Life feels so normal again in new zealand it is wonderful.
He's dressed Puerto Rican but I don't think he's brown face. He might be the slightest bit tanner but he's not brown or anything
