4:17 Joe Torre hugging Jeter and saying "I'd know that guy anywhere" in his signature, working-class Brooklyn cadence, with Sinatra's voice crooning in the background, gets me every time. To quote Brad Pitt in Moneyball, "how can you not be romantic about baseball?"
Joe Torre and Jeter ending was heartfelt. He was his second dad. Those 2 been thru so much together. It was fitting he was the last person to hug him and give him heart felt words before Jeter left for the locker room
My 1st. Yankees Stadium Game, I saw Micky Mantle get a base hit off of Louie Tiant in 1968. I was 9 years old. Watching and cheering The Great Bobby Murcer, Thurman Munson, Don Mattingly, Bernie Williams and The Core Four, has been a Yankees fan dream. Then to be able to watch the greatest of all of all time, from his first major league hit in 1996 to his last hit in Sept. 2014 There's been no other greater thrill.than to watch Derek Jeter's entire career. Now today i'm 61 years old, and i'm waiting to watch Derek's Cooper's town induction speech into The Hall of Fame. What a lucky guy i've been to be able to watch The greatest team w/ The greatest Ballplayer. Thank you God for letting me witness a piece of New York Yankee History
Thank you for sharing Edward. I was only 14 years old watching this live and I couldn’t believe my eyes. Growing up and idolizing the greatest to ever wear #2, it was really surreal to watch. Yankees fan then, Yankees fan forever. Cheers!
I come here probably once every 3 months, remember watching this live and as a BASEBALL fan there's no way it should have ended differently, even red sox fans respected this lol, no moment in sports history will ever be as poetic as this.
The part where you realize at age 18 that one day no matter how famous you are .... you will walk off that field after you’re last game, wether it’s highschool, or college, or MLB. It will end one day, make the most of it because you will miss the game that has done so many good things , it clears you’re mind , teaches you how to play as a team, but most of all, it teaches you re2pect.
I’ll never forget where I was, and what I was doing while watching this live on TV. My favorite player, and this moment still hits so hard. Thanks for the memories, Captain. Can’t wait to watch the induction today!
Just started watching baseball coming from a huge basketball guy this had me tear up the magnitude of this guys career and determination just has me in awe
There will never be another player like Jeter. I’m in my late 20s and played baseball for 10+ years growing up he was one of the last great players from my childhood to walk away from the game. Baseball will never feel the same
I watch this highlight at least once a year despite the fact that I took a redeye from LA to be at this game. I just knew it was something I wouldn't want to miss. DJ joined Twitter & Instagram today. Does anyone else follow him yet?

At least Ill have Some stories To tell my grandkids but i Wish 8 year old me Appreciated This moment More. 10 years later thanks Derek Jeter For Helping me fall in love with baseball.
My favorite game ever, and frankly, the happiest moment in the history of sports. If I could be anything, I'd be standing in the heart of Yankee Stadium, watching the New York faithful celebrate as Sinatra played over the speakers.
Was there in the nose bleeds behind home plate, never cried and laughed more than that night. Easily the best sports moment I’ve ever been apart of. God bless Derek Jeter and the Yankees
I've been a Ysnkee fan all of my 67 years on this earth and I can't think of any other Yankee who has been more loved and admiired than Derek. Probably Mickey when he played is a close 2nd because he was my favorite in my early years, then Thurman and Donny Baseball but Derek is tops on my list!!!!!!
RE2PECT. Not many make such an impact on a storied baseball team. Totally deserving of the Pinstripes. Well done Derek. Well done. You are one of the greats.
What amazes me is opposing ballparks would boo this guy. If you don’t like the Yankees that’s fine but Jeter is the epitome of professionalism and class.
Just think for a minute of how Joe Torre was able to watch Derek Jeter from his fourth year in baseball and for eleven years total. Anybody that has played sports can relate. You watch a guy start out as a young man just learning their way and watch them grow up to be a man and see what they do on a nightly basis as they become great and a true statement to the sport they have pursued, the memories they leave behind with you are TRULY PRICELESS!
Still the most electric I've ever seen the Stadium. And I've been to most of the playoff games the Yanks have played there since that day. Nothing compares. This game meant literally nothing. But it meant the world to us.
Look @Jeter's BOYS frm the 90s over there in the cut waiting for him. Baseball can be so long and drawn out but as a youngin' n the 90s, I'd stay inside for a few hrs for the Yankees. Fyi: Going to the stadium during that era was THE TRUTH!!!
This was a movie. This has all the mysticism, enchantment, and closure of a movie, i swear i was just waiting for the credits to roll with a still of Derek and Frankie Blue Eyes singing his praise to the City That Never Sleeps. How can you not be romantic for baseball?
Crazy how this whole video didnt make shed a single tear, but as soon as he walked in the dugout in the end to go back to the lockeroom, I started ballin tearz😭😭😭😭😭
+Rocco Salvemini I dont know, that was the first time in history....and the last time you will ever hear Fenway chanting a Yankee players name with a standing ovation and even the team came out of the dugout. I thought that was pretty unique.
I think it all planned out perfectly for a perfect Yankees true story. NY/Bos are one of the toughest rivalries in sports. To close that door in peace with giving and receiving respect to Boston was class on both ends. Boston and NY will always have a love/hate relationship. It's like Batman/Joker. Without each other everything would be boring
Nah. That Fenway ending was perfect. His last two games perfectly summarize his whole career. As much as he was great in big moments, it was all of the smaller, less glorious stuff that truly made him elite.
I'm a white sox fan but this ending was epic for Jeter. Im glad to see a great player finish his final game at Yankee Stadium with a walk-off. Welcome to Cooperstown!
Imagine Jeter as a boy... playing stickball or baseball with the average, ordinary kids. You know Derek was the kid always picked first on teams. Imagine in school... in gym class.... How many times were kids screaming... "We want Derek on our team!" ...Or how many arguments..."Not fair, you got Derek on your team!" They probably renamed the high-school he attended to Jeter High.
I was there that night. They were selling shoe box time capsules with Jeter items that night. It came with a hat, t-shirt, two pins, and a baseball. I added my paper ticket and a photo I took of him tipping his cap to the crowd. I was there last night for the HOF plaque unveiling. I added my ticket, a picture of me next to his plaque, the replica plaque they were giving away, and two more t-shirts to the box.
For those that don’t know. Pettite, Williams, Posada, and Rivera, all started with Jeter in 1996. They were called “The Core Four”. They never left the Yankees. Well, Pettite left for five minutes but we can forget that happened.
"Derek Jeter, where fantasy becomes reality! Did you have any doubt?"
That should be inscribed on his HOF bust.
Dude did anyone ask? MANCHESTER UNITED
This is baseball
Soccer is not our topic
You are so off topic :/
@MANCHESTER UNITED F.C whats soccer? Isnt that just a girls sport?
The core four standing there like they’re welcoming him to the field of Dreams gives me chills to this day
Oh man. I ugly cried at that. Beautiful moment.
and then theres Tino Martinez just chillin liek whats up bruh
“As long as there will be the Yankees, Derek Jeter will never be forgotten.” Truer words have never been spoken.
