I'm not a Yankees fan but this shows that when people say "It's just a game" that they are dead wrong. This is someone's life. They can't think of any other way but to play this sport and it's very emotional. Great pitcher and I love his passion for the sport.
Definitely the greatest closer of all time and just a class guy from start to finish. So humble and unassuming. Its so rare to find an athlete in any sport with his level of talent but without the ego or arrogance that most of those athletes have. Although I'm not a Yankee fan I've always admired and respected Mo, Jeter, Pettitte and Posada.
I am a die hard Red Sox fan will always be. In this video I dont see teams I see a man who has poured his life, heart and soul into the game of baseball and the standing ovation and treatment he gets is his reward
As a lifelong RedSox fan. This brings tears to my eyes.. Mo is a legend. Watching season after season of his pitching dominating our lineup. Such an amazing player. He will be greatly missed.
Okay, even as a devoted Red Sox fan, I stood up for the man at this moment. We may not like the Yankees, but that doesn't mean we don't respect their players. Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter are some of the finest athletes in sports history, not just baseball. That I respect, and I salute them both.
I hope everyone realizes that this man can be compared to absolutely no one. He is the greatest pitcher in the game of baseball, if not the greatest player as a whole. This moment for him is the greatest of his career and will be remembered forever. Enjoy your life Mariano
Jason Gill OMG NO HE IS NOT HE IS THE BEST STRIKEOUT PITCHER NOT THE BEST ALL TIME PITCHER IF SANDY KOUFAX STAYED IN THE MLB LONGER HE WOULD BE THE BEST PITCHER
Greatest closer, and greatest Yankee ever. He embodies the sheer professionalism and ability that it means to be a Yankee. Even the likes of Ruth, Mantle, and Jeter don't have anything on the Sandman.
I'm a pitcher myself and mo did inspire me. I don't throw a cutter (yet) but he inspired me to go out there and be confident and kick ass everytime I'm out there. Will always look up to him he was amazing.
If you cried during this moment, you're a real MAN. If you didn't, then you are truly heartless. One of the greatest moments possibly in the history of sports. Long live the Yankees, long live Mariano. Can't wait to see the ovation for Jeter. P.S. I love seeing all this support from Boston fans. I'm proud to see you put the rivalry aside for this moment of beauty.
It’s 2021,watching this vid still gives me goosebumps. Mariano Rivera thank you for giving me the opportunity to watch you,the greatest closer in MLB. God bless.
Mariano Rivera is the epitome of what a professional athlete should be. I am just glad his amazing career and legacy were not effected by his injury a few years ago in KC. I am not a Yankee fan but I will always have a special place in my heart for Mariano Rivera, the man and the player. Have a great retirement and life Mo.
I love seeing lots of Red Sox fans on this video to support Rivera. I'm one of them. Rivera and Jeter deserve every ovation they've received, and loads more - their accomplishments transcend the idea of hometown teams and rivalries.
As a Yankee fan the only time I've liked the Red Sox is the Red Sox first home game after the Boston Marathon and Mariana Rivera's final game facing the Red Sox.
Reminds me of my last day of work at the DMV. Very emotional. Several former co-workers showed up for my last shift. Huge crowd's came out all day and stood in line just to bid me farewell.
+sergioalpert66 When I first read your comment I kind of smiled. But then I read it again and laughed a little. Then I read it again and I just could not stop laughing. I mean I was doubled over. I then had to get up and leave the room to keep from annoying my co-worker. So I walked into the bathroom and laughed even harder. Brother I needed that. Laughter is good medicine and I needed a shot.
As an ex Australian National pitcher I am in awe of such a guy. You Yanks sure know how to build drama and history. There are a lot of kids running around the streets of Melbourne with NY on their caps. Great to see this amazing closer close for the final time before he pursues life s next challenge.
I'm a sox fan and this made me cry. More than I did when the sox broke the curse. More than the sox winning the World Series at Fenway for the first time since 1918. With the possible exception of Derek Jeter, I respect him more than anyone else in professional sports.
This is such a great way for him to go out, but it's really sad too. I felt like I was going to cry the entire time, especially when Jeter and Pettitte came to get him. It's going to be the same when Jeter hangs it up after this season. God bless Mariano Rivera; one of the classiest men to ever play the game.
I remember this moment like it was yesterday. A moment you will never forget. Mariano Rivera was a class act. The best reliever ever. God gifted him to pitch. What he did you cannot teach. There will never be another one like him. If he is not a unanimous decision to make it to the hall of fame, then no one is. It was a pleasure watching him.
I'm a pitcher and in honor of mo I threw cutters in my last season in the US. Now I play the outfield and there is about 35 kids on the team and Mo inspired me to work hard and now I'm starting at leftfield
i love baseball and i just realize out of all the iconic moments in my brain from baseball history this ranks up there with the best of them. i cant see anyone ever breaking his record for most saves well at least in my life time.
I was really happy to see the Mets walk off against him in the Subway Series, but I think seeing this moment makes anyone happier than ever. What a pitcher.
my dad and grandfather would always talk about the players they got to grow up with and im so glad that one day i can tell my kids that i got to see mariano rivera in person pitch against the dodgers . ill never forget it
No one cares who you are a fan of. Cool your a Red Soxs fan? This is about the career of the best closer in the history of baseball. This is amazing and everyone showign respect when its deserved and clearly felt the love. This brought tears to my eyes. Hope the rest of his life with his family is even better.
This comment may be real late, but the onions were sliced as soon as I saw Andy and Derek walking to the mound with those genuine smiles on their faces along with Mo.
Mensch g It is in a frame with a signed picture of Mariano Rivera! If you watch this with sound, you'll hear this loud pitch whistle. That is my father who went to the game with me
the end of an era..i remember being a young yankee fan in the late 80s/early 90s, wondering if i would ever see a great yankee team like my parents talked about, they were so bad in my first few years as a yankee fan, then the CORE 4 came up in 1996, and showed me what yankee greatness was all about, the 1996-2000 yankee dynasty was all because of these guys..gonna miss em all!
This is a great job by Michael Kay the tv/radio announcer who knows when to stop talking and let the moment play out. 4 minutes of just stadium sound. Class act all around.
Dodger fan here...always hated the yankees. but there's just some players you can't hate. Mo being one of em. that was truly a memorable 2-game series at dodger stadium. and in the second of those games, once again, like always, he slammed the door, and put us to bed. The Sandman. He is the definition of a man. For someone to be able to go to a city where people should hate him to death and get standing ovations is absolutely incredible. I'm speaking of when he went to boston not this clip of course, but on and off the field he handled himself so proffesionally. There had to be a point in his career when he realized he was the best. And not just now, but best ever. He could've gotten cocky and demanded huge contracts, but he just wanted to play ball. You can't measure him up to any person who's ever lived.
I am a Red Sox fan but I still cry every time I watch this Ik this sounds corny af but Mo inspired me I want to be just like him I now play for a team that has a chance at the LLWS
I still watch this today. When I watched i was in tears when he was crying. The next day the NYT posted his picture in color, full page. Now you can still find him in Westchester (where I'm from). Look for the white Toyota pick up that says Game Over
I cannot believe this is all coming to an end derek jeter retiring, it is all so emotional I find myself tearing up each time I see a show, a game or a commercial
Same man. Him and Jeter. No matter how much I despise the Yankees or skankies it's wrong not to appreciate these two amazing players. Too bad wrong team. But now there both gone. I really HATE the Yankees.

This Red Sox fan thinks the Yankees organization did one heck of a job seeing off the best closer in the history of the world. If there's one thing the Yankees know how to do it's put on a show.
It is sad really. People should keep rivalries going by trash talk, but respect the players who walk out onto the field, showing off their skill, for people to enjoy. It is sad that its an ordinary compliment. I think more people should respect players, like you do.

I agree with you, but he was more a great pitcher

When he lost it in Pettitte's arms I cried with him. And I'm a Sox fan. The greatest closer in MLB history.
+john doe here we have man with no capacity to feel emotions whatsoever
+john doe pjsalt
Go back to your job at Quizno's
Cried like a baby when that happened
Okay, even as a devoted Red Sox fan, I stood up for the man at this moment. We may not like the Yankees, but that doesn't mean we don't respect their players. Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter are some of the finest athletes in sports history, not just baseball. That I respect, and I salute them both.
Many feel the same for the Sox. ❤
I hope everyone realizes that this man can be compared to absolutely no one. He is the greatest pitcher in the game of baseball, if not the greatest player as a whole. This moment for him is the greatest of his career and will be remembered forever. Enjoy your life Mariano
Best closer of all time but not pitcher, Nolan Ryan was and still is the best
Jason Gill OMG NO HE IS NOT HE IS THE BEST STRIKEOUT PITCHER NOT THE BEST ALL TIME PITCHER IF SANDY KOUFAX STAYED IN THE MLB LONGER HE WOULD BE THE BEST PITCHER
woops caps XD
No he's the greatest pitcher in the MLB since Nolan Ryan
Greatest closer, and greatest Yankee ever. He embodies the sheer professionalism and ability that it means to be a Yankee. Even the likes of Ruth, Mantle, and Jeter don't have anything on the Sandman.
I'm a pitcher myself and mo did inspire me. I don't throw a cutter (yet) but he inspired me to go out there and be confident and kick ass everytime I'm out there. Will always look up to him he was amazing.
jetshockey5 ?
As an Orioles fan, that guy has given me nightmares since 96. He's the best.
That is why they called him the Sandman.
I wished the Yanks front office had signed Posada just for this last game and catch Mo's last pitch.
I second that
I Third that
I fourth that
I fifth that
HUGE Yankees fan here. It breaks my heart when he's not ready to stop hugging Andy yet :( Such an emotional moment.
It’s 2021,watching this vid still gives me goosebumps. Mariano Rivera thank you for giving me the opportunity to watch you,the greatest closer in MLB. God bless.
Im a redsox fan but this is a great moment in mlb. He is a legend and the greatest closer of all time.
Exactly there is no denying true greatness.
***** they arent on the same level as Rivera
hestermanfan How can you compare a pitcher to a DH? They are opposites.
***** Bandwagon
Why didn't they let him finish the inning?
Mariano Rivera is the epitome of what a professional athlete should be. I am just glad his amazing career and legacy were not effected by his injury a few years ago in KC. I am not a Yankee fan but I will always have a special place in my heart for Mariano Rivera, the man and the player. Have a great retirement and life Mo.
I love seeing lots of Red Sox fans on this video to support Rivera. I'm one of them. Rivera and Jeter deserve every ovation they've received, and loads more - their accomplishments transcend the idea of hometown teams and rivalries.
What an inspiration to many! World class.
as a red sox fan i have no problem admitting i got teary eyed watching this. Love this guy, such a class act.
same man, red sox fan here and we all know how good this guy was forever, truly one of the greats
As a Yankee fan the only time I've liked the Red Sox is the Red Sox first home game after the Boston Marathon and Mariana Rivera's final game facing the Red Sox.
MO #42 a humble human being and real pro. Tomorow a dream from a little kid will be a reality, thanks MO! 🇵🇦⚾️
Reminds me of my last day of work at the DMV. Very emotional. Several former co-workers showed up for my last shift. Huge crowd's came out all day and stood in line just to bid me farewell.

+Ken O'Kelley I'm glad. Sometimes humor can be just taking an absurd premise and adding a few layers to it.
can some one give me an upvote so i can read this later
[X] doubt
One of the coolest moments in NYC sports in my 44 years here.
A class act great competition. I am a Red Sox fan from Boston
As a die hard Yankees fan thank you Mo and Jerter. I really do miss you guys.
As an ex Australian National pitcher I am in awe of such a guy. You Yanks sure know how to build drama and history. There are a lot of kids running around the streets of Melbourne with NY on their caps. Great to see this amazing closer close for the final time before he pursues life s next challenge.
All the greats have left the team :( Rivera, Jeter, Pettite, Posada, Bernie. Great era.
PabloCruise91 Sadly, so true :(
+PabloCruise91 Rivera and Jeter were tremendous, great Yankees and great ballplayers.
Andy Pettite, however, was nothing but a sleazy cheater.
+Shag Me Frida If it wasn't for Petite, there wouldn't be no dynasty.
+PabloCruise91 Knoblauch, O'Neill, Martinez, El Duque
We still have Teixeira, though.
This is by far the most beautiful moment in baseball. Absolutely true love for the game, by everyone involved.
I'm a sox fan and this made me cry. More than I did when the sox broke the curse. More than the sox winning the World Series at Fenway for the first time since 1918. With the possible exception of Derek Jeter, I respect him more than anyone else in professional sports.
I am a Red Sox fan but crying to see someone this good to go away. :'(
Red Sox fan and even I shed a tear
I have been watching baseball for 20 years and thise was the greatest moment I can ever recall watching.
Way to spell this
as a die hard Red SOX fan. Mariano is the man and have to respect him. He treated the game with respect.
I am a truly Red Sox Fan... But this makes my eyes wet :D
Hate the yankees, but Respect Mo, Jeter, Posada, Bernie Williams
Stole my thunder. Red Sox fan here also. Rivera transcended the rivalry.
MrDownslider
Pure 100% class.
y would u respect a jeter after he use steriods
wheatthinn7 Jeter never used steroids.
wheatthinn7 jeter and steroids shouldn't even be in the same sentence
I will never like the Yankees, but I will always have the upmost respect for Mariano Rivera. Great player and definitely a future Hall of Famer.
Been watching him since I was 12. A true legend. Im not even a Yankees fan but i got that lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. He will be missed.
This is such a great way for him to go out, but it's really sad too. I felt like I was going to cry the entire time, especially when Jeter and Pettitte came to get him. It's going to be the same when Jeter hangs it up after this season. God bless Mariano Rivera; one of the classiest men to ever play the game.
when mo came to the bench did you notice Joe Giradi wiping the tears.hell i cry everytime i see it.Mo thanks for the memories-see ya in Cooperstown.
Jeffrey Gibbs
Wow yeah I just saw it now. I fight back the tears every time too man.
As a Yanks fan, this still give me goosebumps, all these years later. Thanks Mo!

Greatest closer of all-time. All class all world. The best. Thanks Mo!!
We were so fortunate to be able to watch this guy play in person.
Never been a Yankees fan. But that guy is ALL class. It's not very often that a player affects you like he did. I had tears during this video. RESPECT
I'm a pitcher and in honor of mo I threw cutters in my last season in the US. Now I play the outfield and there is about 35 kids on the team and Mo inspired me to work hard and now I'm starting at leftfield
I bet your really good
i love baseball and i just realize out of all the iconic moments in my brain from baseball history this ranks up there with the best of them. i cant see anyone ever breaking his record for most saves well at least in my life time.
How can anyone not like this guy! So nice, so classy, so humble!
I get teary eye EVERY time i see this.
Thanks for the meMOries!
This is a worthy example of how sports can be so valuable to humanity.
Amazing moments like these keep me invested in my Yankees! I miss Mo!
I was really happy to see the Mets walk off against him in the Subway Series, but I think seeing this moment makes anyone happier than ever. What a pitcher.
my dad and grandfather would always talk about the players they got to grow up with and im so glad that one day i can tell my kids that i got to see mariano rivera in person pitch against the dodgers . ill never forget it
I love the brief "WTF?" look on Mo's face as he realizes Andy and Jeet are coming to take him out.
No one cares who you are a fan of. Cool your a Red Soxs fan? This is about the career of the best closer in the history of baseball. This is amazing and everyone showign respect when its deserved and clearly felt the love. This brought tears to my eyes. Hope the rest of his life with his family is even better.
I was that day and both Panamanians and fans in my sector cried like children. What a great moment, what a great story.
El mejor cerrador de todas la grandes ligas. Gracias MARIANO RIVERA por tantas alegrias que nos distes. DIOS te bendiga.
Awesome... Even the Tama Bay dugout was applauding, the respect Rivera commanded from the entire league was well deserved and well earned.
This comment may be real late, but the onions were sliced as soon as I saw Andy and Derek walking to the mound with those genuine smiles on their faces along with Mo.
Viva Panama, carajo, Gracias Mariano. De humildes origenes a un a gloria del baseball y una carrera incomparable.

Mensch g It is in a frame with a signed picture of Mariano Rivera! If you watch this with sound, you'll hear this loud pitch whistle. That is my father who went to the game with me
After all these years I still tear up.

There are 29 Baseball teams out there, glad that he retired. Mariano, thank you for the memories!!
Well I'm not a Yankee fan but I seen this part on the special fox dis for him n I was crying. . He such a great player

The Yankees of the 90s w/Torre is the reason why I 'understand' baseball. Always used to play/watch, but how Torre coached played his ENTIRE bench (@some point n a game) made me understand matchups. Cannot keep a dry eye no matter how many times I watch this.
One of the greatest moments in sports
When a GOAT says goodbye. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hard to believe it's been 9 years already.
Jesus...that brought tears 2 my eyes whatta warrior the goat of saves 1 pitch love him yankee fan since 84
He is the definition of a man. For someone to be able to go to a city where people should hate him to death and get standing ovations is absolutely incredible. please don't say af. so stupid
I'll never forget that moment. All the Yankee players aside from Jeter that I grew up watching are all retired. :(
Goosebumps 👌🏼 coming from a Red Sox fan
I still watch this today. When I watched i was in tears when he was crying. The next day the NYT posted his picture in color, full page. Now you can still find him in Westchester (where I'm from). Look for the white Toyota pick up that says Game Over
I cannot believe this is all coming to an end derek jeter retiring, it is all so emotional I find myself tearing up each time I see a show, a game or a commercial
Not many legends left in the world today.... this guy is a legend.
2019 Hall of fame unanimously voted Mariano Rivera 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The most marvelous closer ever seen, gratest for ever!!
Damn this is old as hell and I still dropped a tear watching this again...he's a Yankee 🐐
The closest to perfection you will ever see. I still tear up a bit in 2024.
I'm a Red Sox fan but I still got chocked up.
Same man. Him and Jeter. No matter how much I despise the Yankees or skankies it's wrong not to appreciate these two amazing players. Too bad wrong team. But now there both gone. I really HATE the Yankees.
+jimmy mindell Baseball is baseball. It's greater than any individual team. I'm a Yankees fan but even if Mo was a Red Sox, this moment would still have me in tears. Greatness, no matter the team, is appreciated by all baseball fans.
This was a beautifully powerful moment.
Perfect. When Jeter's time comes, that will be one of the best moments in baseball history.
This is beautiful
Nothin but class. The greatest closer that ever lived. Much love from a Sox fan that was born to hate the Yanks.
He was such a great closer. Truly an inspiring guy.
What A Man! Mo! I'm my life time...I've seen greatness!
i feel sorry for me becouse i only seen this man now adays on you tube but during his time in mlb i didnt seen any, this a great passion, a great talent that inspire the young one's
i am red sox fan and i still respect this guy
This Red Sox fan thinks the Yankees organization did one heck of a job seeing off the best closer in the history of the world.
If there's one thing the Yankees know how to do it's put on a show.
You show a lot of class. Hats off to you from a Yankees fan to a Red Sox fan. All the Sox fans I know are complete assholes lol
Kinda sad that the bar is held so low because of my compatriots that an ordinary compliment hits that level of praise :/
It is sad really. People should keep rivalries going by trash talk, but respect the players who walk out onto the field, showing off their skill, for people to enjoy. It is sad that its an ordinary compliment. I think more people should respect players, like you do.
