I was with Sqn Ldr (later Group Captain) Tol Janeke with his navigator 'Wedge' John Brown in Canberra R2156 on 24 May 1972 when Boeing 727 Flight 029 was hijacked by two Lebanese terrorists. I had just landed with that Canberra following a bombing sorties when the Canberra was hastely refuelled and turned round for the trip with Tol Janeke and Wedge Brown to 'chase and escort' the hijacked SAA Boeing aircraft. Our sortie was of One hour ten minutes durarion. I trust Boss Tol Janeke will give his side of this noteworthy occurrence.
