Face The Nation | Rwanda on DRC/ Lamola on tensions between Rwanda and SA/Holomisa on SANDF

  • Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs Olivier Nduhungirehe has reiterated President Paul Kagame's earlier warning that Rwanda is ready for confrontation if necessary. He says SANDF is at Rwanda's border, and while Rwanda does not seek aggression, it is prepared to defend itself if attacked. Nduhungirehe also mentioned that South Africa was invited into the Democratic Republic of the Congo by a government seeking to overthrow the Rwandan government.
Minister of International Relations Ronald Lamola says there is clear evidence that Rwanda supports M23 . Lamola says South Africa wants a cessation of hostilities and their mandate is to support the government of DRC.
Deputy Defence Minister Bantu Holomisa has attributed the declining condition of the South African National Defence Force to budget cuts, highlighting that the signs of this struggle have been evident for over a decade. On the escalating conflict in DRC, Holomisa says the department's priority is to return deceased & injured soldiers back home.

Im South African, but from this interview, i got to understand Rwanda's posture. SANDF is fighting along FDLR (rebels) + FARDC (congo defense) to defeat M23 (opposite rebels). Rwanda supports M23 because the defeat of these rebels would mean that FDLR would move into Rwanda to try overthrow the government.
But.. once this entire mess is over and done with, let's check how much minerals would have been stolen out of Goma to America and Europe. 😓

Rwandan Defense Force (RDF) is the same army that liberated Rwanda by stopping the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The genocide still took over 1M Tutsis and Hutus who didn’t join the genocidal mission. This happened at the watch of the whole international community!
31 years later, they still have the same primary mission: To protect Rwanda and its 14M united people.
I find it highly aggressive (or at the least, so reckless or maybe even jealous) for a president to call one of the best organized and professional armies on the continent, a militia!

The Rwandan people brought an and end to the genocide themselves. Not only did they do that they also rebuilt their country and today Rwanda is the cleanest country in Africa with a fast developing infrastructure. They rebuilt from Ashes while most of the rest of Africa, including South Africa are going the other way around. You have a right to protect your country.

2 Rwanda and Burundi was once a country same language and culture and as land demarcation came into existence things changed. Same to DRC since this colonial rule effect no DRC regime ever accepted the kinyarwanda tribe that had rooted there. So DRC government should acknowledge their rights! Mr journalist, you are a professional, thank you sir. You (or rather, I guess, your editorial line?) are not just following blindly the politics of our government out of empty patriotism, even if the SABC is funded or in part by the South African government.... you are asking real questions which make our decision makers think. Constructive criticism is not lack of patriotism and unfortunately this accountability or questioning and sometimes positive criticism is lacking in many of our African politics, therefore oppression on one form or another continues. As for your question of the day, "What approach do you thin the South African government should take in response to the diplomatic escalation with Rwanda?", I still believe South Africa has a moral stand internationally, I am sure even Rwanda would agree at least until recently, it has hailed South Africa in the highest esteem in the past. Let's face it, this DRC's context is exposing South Africa's distortion of its moral authority. Let SANDF stay in MONUSCO's context, despite MONUSCO weakness or vulnerability, this is not an easy mission; dismantle this so called "Force Intervention Brigade", which is Tshisekedi's tool to promote personal interest, his and some individuals such as Zuma, Ramaphosa & Ndayishimiye and some Western businesses, for sure not for all Congolese interest, regardless of ethnic make up. Protect all civilians not selectively as it is your case now. You may have been invited by a legitimate government though you sought the cover of the UN, and this is the government we have, it deserves to be recognised. You can't do as if you don't know that this same government is working or has even integrated UN sanctioned militia and african haters into the national army. History is being written.... and please don't underestimate Rwanda, some think of the size🤫 you may not agree with the president, and it is ok, but step back from the war in the region, don not pretend to come to bring peace, neutrality is one of the characteristics, seeking for negotiation and reconciliation too.... sit down, at least out of your experience, with the great and the small. Consult more wisely, I still respect you.

I am very humbled by the wise words of your international affairs minister (South African), I wish we Africans were truly united and not divided.
The issue of Eastern Congo is a simple matter that can be resolved by the Congolese president by simply granting Eastern Congo citizens equal rights and equal treatment, and if he chooses to see them as Rwandese for speaking Kinyarwanda then he should leave them alone with their land. Either way there will be peace.
As for Rwanda I wish we all continue to work towards peace and stability, once the Eastern Congo issue is resolved we can have FDLR brought back for the accountability of committing genocide.

      M23 are Congolese.
This is simple! South Africa is busy trying to fight natives in their land?! They will never win this war 🪖
They are going to move out of DRC with shame ~ soon and very soon ✨

These problems have always been there and H.E Thabo has pointed it out well but the idiocy of President Ramaphosa has addressed the wrong issue in fighting alongside these forces who are fighting to murder their citizens and ignore the fight which is in light of a force which is fighting for their rights. SANDF is filling Ramaphosa's pockets and these soldiers are dying in Vain.

What Tabo Bheki said is not the thrut. Tuts are refugees in DRC since then they lived peacefully there. The issue now is that they are claiming for land , they have never been one of the DRC's tribe. What Thabo Bheki said is totally wrong .Kagame is using one of the corrupte DRC politician Corneille Nanga to continue telling the world that M23 is
      a Congolese rebels.

This is a concerning example of journalism. The questions being posed seem to be influenced by a specific agenda, attempting to portray South Africa as incapable of fulfilling its mission in the DRC. Additionally, Rwanda is exporting minerals that are not even found in its territory, which constitutes theft on an international scale. This situation is being overlooked.
