Nice vid Pete, When we tear the guns down for cleaning we always pull the trigger and remove the needle tip then the needle to stop possible damage to the needle. 👍 And on rebuild we just leave the air cap sat in roughly 1inch of gunwash in the paint cup and next time we use the gun we just reattach the cap and blow the thinners through the gun to "wake it up" as it were. 👍 As you say many ways to skin a cat 😁👍 Have a great Christmas Pete 🎄 🍻🍻
Hi Terry, thanks mate, hope you have a great Christmas as well. As you say, there's a few ways to do it , the most important thing is not getting thinners into air trigger area of the gun, most will take it to a degree but the digital guns really don't like it so I find it better to get into the routine of keeping the main air supply clear in the gun, saves problems down the road, cheers Terry 👍
Pulling the trigger and removing the tip first definitely makes a difference my aunty taught me how to spray and look after guns in her factory when I was 12-15 when I was 18 she asked me to help her takeover and run a paint room in a factory that had problems when having a look around we witnessed a guy tip half a pot of paint away didn't even rinse the gun and switch the tip and then needle for brand new ones 🤔 the place was a mess and 2 of the 3 guy's quiet before we started we found at least 15 abused dirty gun's stashed away and box's full of tip's cap's and needle's looking at the oldest gun's the needles were worn so bad that they stuck out of the tip by a good few mm than it should we could only presume they were taking the tip's off and on many times a day with the needle still in
Hi Colin, That sounds like a complete mess. It's amazing how wasteful people can be when it's not their money! , sounds like you sorted it out, which is great 👍 I've always had a degree of mechanical sympathy, so looking after tools is something I do as a matter of course. They last longer and perform better, and if you're in a busy shop, this saves time and money in the long run, cheers mate, thanks for the comments 👍
Nice one Pete. One thing you can do is place a paper towel over the top of the pot and put the lid back on before you shake it. It allows you to clean the lid somewhat before the final brushing.
Your videos are excellent thank you. On one I noticed that you seem to blow the tank with the spraygun as a final dusting. Is that achieved by only slightly pressing the trigger? I have an ANI R160Q but not opened the box yet!
Hi Mate, Yes, it's just releasing air and no product, but just spray it once before you do that, as on the first releasing something material will be released. The ANI is a great little gun, but it likes its pressure, I use around 2.5 bar for base and up to 3.5 bar for clear coat 👍

Dear Pete, first off Happy New Year! I wish this year will be a happy and healthy one for you. I have one question: Iwata USA was showing a gun cleaning video (actually 2 videos) on a gun much like the one in your video. Anyhow, in both videos, the guy put Iwata lubricator onto the nozzle during the re-assembly after the cleaning done. He says he does this to prevent paint accumulation in that area. He applies the lubricator to the small air passages around the nozzle also. Usually, I only apply the lube alongside the needle (very small amount), and its backside where it interfaces with the spring to lubricate the o-ring. Anyways, I repeated the exact same process (just the nozzle), but I started to get very tiny blisters on the painted surface (remember I use water-soluble acrylic paint sold in art stores). Do you think this is due to the Iwata lubricator I applied on the nozzle? The surface the paint is applied on is a primed surface and cleaned with alcohol. I just wanted to get your opinion on this. Take care.
Hi buddy, a happy and healthy new year to you as well, mate 👍 I would say absolutely 100% its down to the application of Iwata lubricant to the tip threads and air holes. I never put lubricant there. It's fine for longe term storage. After all, it's how the gun arrives when it's new, which should be cleaned out before use, but it is no good if you are going to use the gun frequently. I don't apply any lubricant apart form occasionally on the needle beyond the tip, I used to do that all the time, but don't any more as the seals these days and nylon and needles stainless steel so don't really need it, it's only if the passage way feels a little tight I will apply some but first I will back the packing gland off to see if that helps obviously making sure there is no leakage after loosening , not often I do this as it's just not needed, Cheers 👍
Good video, alas I think i may have scrapped my guns, I usually just spray neat thinners through after wiping out the cup. Can you offer any words of comfort please Pete 🙏
Hi Andrew, to be fair, that's what a lot of people do. It's fast and does the job for the most part. Then it's a matter of just stripping and cleaning every so often soaking the cap and tip overnight. I like to keep my guns nice and clean, so I do this after every use of a 2k product or at the end of the day on base guns, but I'm swapping guns all the time so putting away a dirty gun for any length of time isn't a good idea as you will know. Hope those words were comforting enough, mate. I've done my best 😁, cheers ✌️
@@peteshobbies5383 Pete, Seriously, finding your TH-cam channel has been a revelation, perfect for what I need. Thank you so much for your help. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌
Hi Pete that was a nice surprize to have a video from you on Christmas eve so thanks for that mate🙏 Some good advice there for the novices that aren't quite sure of the best methods for cleaning your guns out, at the end of the day it's pretty much common sense. You are like me with your guns they have to be spotlessly clean both inside and out, I've not had my guns as long as you have but like yours mine are still like the day they came out of the box, these things aren't cheap so it pays to keep them as clean as you can😎 Some people store their guns with the pots attached and leave a bit thinners in the pot, IMO that's not really a good thing to do as any seals in there will deteriorate over time plus it can damage any coating that's on the internal gun body, if your gun is clean then blow it through and leave it dry that's what I do anyway👌 Ok Pete you have a good day tomorrow and enjoy all the new guns you will be getting from the family🤞🏼😁😂 I've had my pressie early as you know and it's fantastic👏👍
Hi John, yes, thought I would put a video up, a few people have asked for this one so hopefully it's delivering what they asked for. Wasn't sure if anyone would be watching videos today but lots are it seems Yeah, I don't like leaving thinners is any of my guns, I put them away dry and they keep well, even my digital Sata's are still going which is saying something 🤣😂. Yes, have a good one tomorrow you and Sonia, I'm sure you will, maybe a bit of time playing with your new toy as well 😀 I just tried my Camio 4 so will put a photo on Instagram of my first effort, cheers mate 👍
I would have thought this video will help quite a few people, I know it would have helped me when I first started out. I've pretty much got my new laptop sorted apart from one thing, when I plug my Sartorius scales in I get an error about one of the driver files cant load even though I installed them🤷♂🤷♂ Yeah I've just seen your post on IG mate and it looks great for a first attempt👌👌👍
Hi Pete I enjoyed that one! It’s surprising that I do basically what you do, but I’ve also got a couple of great tips as well, like using an ice cream container and a paint brush that’s a game changer for me to give the gun body a quick going over, I’ve always used the method you used at the end to bring the shine back to the body, I’ve also never put the whole tip in just the tip as it were as I use a small sample pot. I put gun wash though the gun at the end after rebuilding it and again before I use the gun, it sounds like you use Virgin thinners before and after is this something you would recommend more rather than the gun wash? I’ve never put the air on with the gun apart definitely doing that in future, although I do put the air on before putting the gun back in the box. Thanks for this again, saves me doing a video on this subject, I much rather it come from you anyway as this is more your subject and I wouldn’t want to tread on your toes so to speak. Thanks again Pete. See you in the next one. Steve.
Hi Steve, I've been asked by a few people over the months to do a video, it was just getting around to it. I use gun wash thinners at every stage of cleaning but before I use the gun I run virgin thinners through it normally twice, just a squirt or two in the pot, swirl it around and let it out, then another time, the first should loosen any residue and the 2nd takes it out, that's the theory anyway. A few people have said you can't be too basic with some of these videos, sometimes I'm as guilty as others of assuming people know the basics when obviously if someone is starting they don't normally know anything. No harm in doing your own video as well mate, your delivery is really good people will connect with it, I'll certainly watch it. Running the air through is something Sata recommend particularly on their digital guns, a lot of people don't do it which is why there's so many Sata's for sale with the gauge not working. Cheers Steve, Happy Christmas mate 👍
@@peteshobbies5383 I was probably one of them 😂 I will use the virgin from now on, it makes more sense to use it for a pre clean before spraying to prevent any contamination so definitely worth me doing that in future. This video was definitely helpful and totally worth being as long as it needs to be you’ve done an excellent job on this. I think I will incorporate it into a spraying video otherwise it will be a carbon copy of yours and I feel that’s unfair on you honestly although I would link it back to you but still I won’t feel right about it. I have no doubt you would watch it your the king of spraying 😁 it’s clearly a passion of yours (one I totally get!) which is why I think your channel is growing as much as it does, it’s a great resource for guys like me who wants to dabble in spray painting, keep the videos coming and I will continue to watch when I get time. Yeah, it is difficult to know what to keep in and what not to, people are after and get different things from different bits so it's always a compromise. I think people appreciate the honesty that people like you and me bring to them, I'm never sure watching some people if they are saying it because someone gives them the stuff or if they believe it. People don't often have the time so I try and keep videos as short as possible, the analytics will tell you the average time people watch which is a reasonable guide, cheers mate, have a good one 👍
