I could listen to The Boss talk for hours about stuff that isn't relevant to the plot. I savour these moments in the Virtuous Mission.
The relationship between Naked Snake and The Boss really feels like one of the realest relationships in all of gaming history; their connection and the friction between them at various points in the story is palpable.

It's truly one of the most special relationships that's been portrayed in all of gaming. The deepness and complexity of it makes it feel so real.
That's why I like it so much.

It's pretty clear that Snake has a lot of respect for The Boss; he cares what she thinks but doesn't really care what anyone else thinks.
I think its sad we hear her this loose in this part of the game. Everything here is just an act, she tossed Snake off of a bridge knowing he’d live. This is the closest we see to The Boss and Snake just being friends more than mentor/student and later mother/son. This game really makes you wish that she could be saved.
This game does a fantastic job of conveying the deepness and complexity of Snake and The Boss's relationship. These conversations are emblematic of that, and they're the last real pure moments they have together before The Boss's "betrayal" until her final moments at the end of the game.
@@IQ-Gameplay Having played the game for the first time weeks back (knew the story years before of course) but seeing it unfold hit different. One thing that hit me is when The Boss tells Snake about the tranquilizer gun she tested out, and Snake questioned why she never told him and she basically admitted that she had to keep things secret. This made me realize I think the Boss is crying during her speech because its the most honest shes been with him her whole life. She’s been his mentor and mother but she’s also had to keep herself separated from him. So at the end of her life she finally reveals most of her burdens to him, and then tasks Eva to reveal why she defected. Like she says the boss wanted to live on in Snake’s heart as a woman. I think she wanted no more secrets.

It's funny if you think about how her mission is to have him kill her and helping him is more to make sure it's accomplished than general concern. The beauty of the writing is that you will never be able to tell.
The writing in this game is indeed absolutely amazing; there's so many little details in the interactions between Snake and The Boss that make you realise she isn't really on the enemy's side.
Not true actually. Right now she’s just stealing the Legacy. She only has that mission after Volgin fires the USA nuke, meaning she has to go full turncoat to fool the Russian Government.
That's not his mission yet, that only happens once volgin uses her nukes

It's existed as long as the game itself has existed, let's be honest 😅
MGS3 is when Kojima went crazy with the codecs.
Played through the game about a dozen times, but feel like I've only heard about a fifth of the calls.
The real crazy thing is that they don't even take up much of the game's runtime by MGS standards. Most of them are kept optional and based on the player's actions, whereas previously the game would force you to watch the majority of them if you wanted to get minimal experience from the story.
The conversations got more fleshed out from MGS1 to MGS2 and from MGS2 to MGS3. They also included many more optional dialogues with very specific triggers, leading to a large proportion of conversations being missed entirely. They became less necessary for the story, but more necessary for the lore.
