I’ve seen people say their headcanon is that this game is just Otacon’s own retelling of the original. My headcanon is that this entire game is what Raiden did as VR Training way before the events of MGS2. Would explain the over the top action, and gives an in-universe explanation as to why Colonel sounds just like he does in MGS2.

I don't believe he covered the entire mission beginning-to-end, but he probably trained in the important aspects, namely fighting REX itself, which could explain his confidence and capability when engaging multiple RAY units.

In original it was much better, because we didn't see what happened. Only blood, only dead body, and only one guy who said "The ghost", which makes this scene looks really creepy. In TS, you see all what happened and yeah, it looks brutal and cool, but scene doesn't look creepy and mysterious as it was in first place.
The end cutscene of Otacon rolling down the hill and when snake throws the grenade at the girder has got to be the funniest things in a video game period
People give Twin Snakes shit for its over-the-top cutscenes, but if we can have Eva in MGS3 do a fucking backflip with a motorcycle off of Ocelot’s chin, we can have this.
Its to much in this game snake flips for no reason and theres plenty of cringe overreaction moments like with snake and baker, snake pulling his gun on baker for forgetting Meryls frequency really? Hal falling over constantly degrades his character. Most of these cutscenes are cringe so bad its funny. Sure there are some moments in later games but they were somewhat grounded with the exception of a couple of scenes. In this its every sence removing the serious gritty feel that made the first game epic.

I'd honestly like to see a per capita analysis of stupid cutscenes, because raw time isn't exactly a fair comparison, but I'd think even MGS3 wouldn't be able to beat Twin Snakes. You've got Eva's bike backflip (which seems to be the only thing people are able to reference when it comes to MGS3 ridiculousness), I'll throw in that massive jump she does from the cave to Grozny Grad, maybe Snake shooting the debris with the rocket in bullet time, even though the only ridiculous thing about that is the bullet time, and the Cobras and Volgin to be extra generous. But even still, does that really compare to Snake doing a backflip every five minutes?
The fun fact is that originally they had recreated the cutscenes from the original, however Hideo, after seeing it himself, requested that they go overboard with the action. Most fans today failed to realize that back in 2001, during an interview for MGS2 he was asked to whom would direct a MGS movie. His answer was the Wachowski Brothers since he loved The Matrix. Which explains 100% on some similarities in The Twin Snakes. At this, they should've add a brand new secret ending after completing Extreme Mode that was a VR simulator all along before Jack is sent to the Plant Mission (2009 MGS2 event). Would've been nice if it also includes a playable MGS2 Raiden (or playable Cyborg Ninja w/ MGS2 Raiden's skill) as the reward. A huge opportunity greatly missed.

Also, it's optional. 2- It originally came with the MGS game itself, but later on, they made a Special edition with the VR training missions on a separate third disc. That game is Metal Gear Solid: Integral. 3- No, Integral is not an "emulator", it's an actual official game.

What makes snake so interesting a character is he is not superhuman. He’s grounded. Sure he’s a master of weapons and military tactics and fluent in 7 languages but those are things a human can do. And he uses that to take down super humans. In the original, Snake is the grounded, gritty, depressed individual surrounded by batshit insane shit and he manages through anyway, while dealing with feelings of being good for nothing but killing. In twin snakes he’s a trigger happy, superhuman gymnast with reflexes enough to dodge bullets (but only when the story needs), flip over missiles, who jumps and flips and 360 no-scopes unnecessarily who has anger management issues

Falling down a Bridge and landing on a Tank, dodging quickly a Bullet from a knife in MGS2. And not to forgot the Hallway of Microwaves and still able to fight Liquid Ocelot later on, in MGS4.

The thing is despite all the flack the cutscenes get for being over the top, they still don't seem out of place in an MGS game. We've seen weirder things in other MGS games.
Everyone complaining in the comments about the OTT nature of Twin Snakes, and how the rest of the franchise was fairly grounded must be remembering the wrong games lol. There is absolutely nothing grounded about any of the MGS sequels. This remake stays pretty consistent with everything that came after. I distinctly remember Vamp running 90 degrees up a tower (MGS2), Raiden swirling multi-ton Metal Gear Gekkos by break-dancing (MGS4), and a shaft of sentient fire yelling FURRYYYYY behind Big Boss. I don't know what this mysterious Metal Gear has always been grounded statement comes from that most people are saying in the comments.
The s3 plan was to test Raiden's sanity and will. Raiden's breakdance actually made sense and proved to be a good strategy. Fury's death was based off the mummy's movie. Now that we cleared that out, i can safely say that backflipping everywhere is not gonna get you anywhere. These cutscenes are ridiculous.
Suri _Tryhorder The S3 plan has nothing to do with the absurdity of a guy running straight up a wall with no enhancements for that purpose. No one on Moses did anything even close to that. Even Grey Fox had very limited acrobatics. Breakdancing is never a good strategy, the physics would never work due to leverage and mass distribution, and Raiden pulls off ridiculous, over the top, flashy moves because he's an edgelord. The Fury being based off a movie doesn't excuse the absurdity of Russian Cosmonaut = Giant Fire Head. The rest of the Cobras are even more ridiculous. If Twin Snakes was the only version of MGS1, no one would've said anything. MGS has always been dramatic characters and stories and serious gameplay interspersed with some utterly unbelievable, superhuman/supernatural stuff. It's what gives MGS its charm. People are blinded by nostalgia. MGS1 on the PS was amazing, but they were limited by their technology, simple as that. Given the direction Kojima took the series after 1, it's hard to say TS' insanity wasn't what he originally envisioned.

Suri _Tryhorder The only explanation for Vamp ever is in 4, where we learn he did have a stronger healing ability, but nothing inhuman. Nanomachines made him a quasi-immortal. No reason for him to run on water or up a wall other than Kojima likes ridiculously over the top characters, and that's fine, great even as it's made the series so memorable. Also, Raiden was just a soldier with a gun when he first fought him, and he did quite fine. Nothing ridiculous because he was still a bug under the Patriots' heel, but still fine. Vulcan is in the same boat as the Cobras: supernatural abilities, just with some spirituality this time. Again, perfectly ok as it's made him a memorable character beyond "big black dude with gun". Liquid is invincible in MGS1 and TS, and that's because Kojima wrote the story that way, over and over. He loves the Big Bads (Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, Volgin, Liquid Ocelot) to be hard to kill, and people love them for their grit and because they get more screen time. MGS1 was significantly less in line thematically than the later entries, and that's due to hardware limitations. I don't know how old you are, but judging by what you've typed and how you type I'm going to assume you weren't around for or weren't cognizant of the remarkable increase in performance between the earlier console generations. There's a reason no one has a functioning face in MGS1 but MGS2 has wild movement and even decently rendered hair. I love the insanity that is Metal Gear and all its absurd characters, which is why I believe Twin Snakes to be a proper representation of 1. Kojima, at least through the years of MGS, was a man of wild ideas that his team had to constantly restrain. He wanted the End's fight to last a whole week, as an example. Comparing the movements and actions of characters in later entries, TS bears a closer resemblance because Kojima finally had the computational power to create his original, neutered ideas. Hell, MGS1 was supposed to be a parody of Bond-like action movies in the first place, so TS' ridiculous stunts make perfect sense, at least from Kojima's perspective. In your language, I have all of my shit together because I've been following the games, their production, and their creator since MGS1. Kojimbo always wanted TS.

I really love these, there just so over the top that its lit. And its not like the other games dont have stuff like this- EVA backflips on a motorcycle, Snake dives into the ocean after a metal gear, Vamp flies around and runs on water, in Peace Walker Big Boss just kills dragons.... great series

To me the twin snakes version of snake seems more like a perfect soldier than his MGS1/MGS2 counterpart. I feel like in a way it makes more sense for this to be more in line with "the super soldier" I'd argue raiden is more of a perfect soldier than snake is.
I think that this is what made it such a great remake. If you played the original, then you got something new and interesting in this one. Even if you didn't like the new one, there is still the old one to go back to.

I've been playing TTS again recently for nostalgia's sake. Yes, the cutscenes are over the top, but I think it kind of makes it endearing and more enjoyable. That and I have ADD, so if something isn't exploding or someone isn't flipping every five seconds, I'll get bor- oh, shiny thing! :o Kind of wish the gray fox vs. REX fight was shown in this. That was one of my favorite cutscenes.

Nope Metal gear solid 1 is better. Better voice acting, better cutscenes, gameplay that isn't broken by adding mgs2 first person aiming and gameplay to mgs1 that makes the twin snakes too easy and breaks most of the bosses in the game. mgs1 has a better ost which was cut from the Twin snakes.

Hal falling over constantly degrades his character. Most of these cutscenes are cringe so bad its funny. Sure there are some moments in later games but they were somewhat grounded with the exception of a couple of scenes. In this its every sence removing the serious gritty feel that made the first game epic.

I'd honestly like to see a per capita analysis of stupid cutscenes, because raw time isn't exactly a fair comparison, but I'd think even MGS3 wouldn't be able to beat Twin Snakes. You've got Eva's bike backflip (which seems to be the only thing people are able to reference when it comes to MGS3 ridiculousness), I'll throw in that massive jump she does from the cave to Grozny Grad, maybe Snake shooting the debris with the rocket in bullet time, even though the only ridiculous thing about that is the bullet time, and the Cobras and Volgin to be extra generous.
But even still, does that really compare to Snake doing a backflip every five minutes?

The fun fact is that originally they had recreated the cutscenes from the original, however Hideo, after seeing it himself, requested that they go overboard with the action.
Most fans today failed to realize that back in 2001, during an interview for MGS2 he was asked to whom would direct a MGS movie. His answer was the Wachowski Brothers since he loved The Matrix.
Which explains 100% on some similarities in The Twin Snakes.
At this, they should've add a brand new secret ending after completing Extreme Mode that was a VR simulator all along before Jack is sent to the Plant Mission (2009 MGS2 event).
Would've been nice if it also includes a playable MGS2 Raiden (or playable Cyborg Ninja w/ MGS2 Raiden's skill) as the reward. A huge opportunity greatly missed.

A single lone isolated example is an outlier, not the norm. Notice you never see anyone of these flips from other characters (who for all intents and purposes are just normal humans) in any other game.

What makes snake so interesting a character is he is not superhuman. He’s grounded. Sure he’s a master of weapons and military tactics and fluent in 7 languages but those are things a human can do. And he uses that to take down super humans.
In the original, Snake is the grounded, gritty, depressed individual surrounded by batshit insane shit and he manages through anyway, while dealing with feelings of being good for nothing but killing.
In twin snakes he’s a trigger happy, superhuman gymnast with reflexes enough to dodge bullets (but only when the story needs), flip over missiles, who jumps and flips and 360 no-scopes unnecessarily who has anger management issues

i don´t know, fighting against a Tank, Hind D and a Giant Robot in the "Original" is pretty much Superhuman.
Falling down a Bridge and landing on a Tank, dodging quickly a Bullet from a knife in MGS2.
And not to forgot the Hallway of Microwaves and still able to fight Liquid Ocelot later on, in MGS4.
The ending, as he picks up the sword, I was straight dying hearing Rules Of Nature starting up

Everyone complaining in the comments about the OTT nature of Twin Snakes, and how the rest of the franchise was fairly grounded must be remembering the wrong games lol.
There is absolutely nothing grounded about any of the MGS sequels. This remake stays pretty consistent with everything that came after. I distinctly remember Vamp running 90 degrees up a tower (MGS2), Raiden swirling multi-ton Metal Gear Gekkos by break-dancing (MGS4), and a shaft of sentient fire yelling FURRYYYYY behind Big Boss.
I don't know what this mysterious Metal Gear has always been grounded statement comes from that most people are saying in the comments.
The s3 plan was to test Raiden's sanity and will. Raiden's breakdance actually made sense and proved to be a good strategy. Fury's death was based off the mummy's movie.
Now that we cleared that out, i can safely say that backflipping everywhere is not gonna get you anywhere. These cutscenes are ridiculous.

Breakdancing is never a good strategy, the physics would never work due to leverage and mass distribution, and Raiden pulls off ridiculous, over the top, flashy moves because he's an edgelord.
The Fury being based off a movie doesn't excuse the absurdity of Russian Cosmonaut = Giant Fire Head. The rest of the Cobras are even more ridiculous.
If Twin Snakes was the only version of MGS1, no one would've said anything. MGS has always been dramatic characters and stories and serious gameplay interspersed with some utterly unbelievable, superhuman/supernatural stuff. It's what gives MGS its charm. People are blinded by nostalgia. MGS1 on the PS was amazing, but they were limited by their technology, simple as that. Given the direction Kojima took the series after 1, it's hard to say TS' insanity wasn't what he originally envisioned.

Suri _Tryhorder The only explanation for Vamp ever is in 4, where we learn he did have a stronger healing ability, but nothing inhuman. Nanomachines made him a quasi-immortal. No reason for him to run on water or up a wall other than Kojima likes ridiculously over the top characters, and that's fine, great even as it's made the series so memorable. Also, Raiden was just a soldier with a gun when he first fought him, and he did quite fine. Nothing ridiculous because he was still a bug under the Patriots' heel, but still fine.
Vulcan is in the same boat as the Cobras: supernatural abilities, just with some spirituality this time. Again, perfectly ok as it's made him a memorable character beyond "big black dude with gun".
Liquid is invincible in MGS1 and TS, and that's because Kojima wrote the story that way, over and over. He loves the Big Bads (Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, Volgin, Liquid Ocelot) to be hard to kill, and people love them for their grit and because they get more screen time.
MGS1 was significantly less in line thematically than the later entries, and that's due to hardware limitations. I don't know how old you are, but judging by what you've typed and how you type I'm going to assume you weren't around for or weren't cognizant of the remarkable increase in performance between the earlier console generations. There's a reason no one has a functioning face in MGS1 but MGS2 has wild movement and even decently rendered hair.
I love the insanity that is Metal Gear and all its absurd characters, which is why I believe Twin Snakes to be a proper representation of 1. Kojima, at least through the years of MGS, was a man of wild ideas that his team had to constantly restrain. He wanted the End's fight to last a whole week, as an example.
Comparing the movements and actions of characters in later entries, TS bears a closer resemblance because Kojima finally had the computational power to create his original, neutered ideas. Hell, MGS1 was supposed to be a parody of Bond-like action movies in the first place, so TS' ridiculous stunts make perfect sense, at least from Kojima's perspective.
In your language, I have all of my shit together because I've been following the games, their production, and their creator since MGS1. Kojimbo always wanted TS.

Nope Metal gear solid 1 is better. Better voice acting, better cutscenes, gameplay that isn't broken by adding mgs2 first person aiming and gameplay to mgs1 that makes the twin snakes too easy and breaks most of the bosses in the game. mgs1 has a better ost which was cut from the Twin snakes.
