    I am SOOOOOOOOOO happy that I found your channel. Your terminal customization video is just cheff's kiss. It is visually pleasing and you were just so thorough in everything. I hope you keep making more tutorials-like videos, my guy.

    A single 38" 3840x1600 from LG is all you need. No more neck swing and it's like two monitors almost and taller than 1440 which looks letter boxy in ultrawide.

    I don't feel that M1 Pro is overkill for software development at all. But given the choice, I'd definitely upgrade RAM over CPU.
    Great video!

    • @joseanmartinez
      @joseanmartinez  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! The M1 Pro is amazing! I do think though that something like the M2 Macbook Air would probably still be a great option for a lot of software development related tasks.

      If you're doing graphical work at all though you'll want the Pro or the Max. The Air's GPU will drop frames frequently on any graphically heavy task.

    Very nice setup 😉 I have ds220+ NAS and spinning HDDs had been driving me crazy that’s why I eventually put it in different room then my desk. Also I don’t know if it’s an issue or not but I wasn’t putting my NAS on standing desk because I was afraid of vibrations from lifting motor damaging HDDs.

    • @joseanmartinez
      @joseanmartinez  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thanks for the feedback! I don’t really hear or notice my NAS much, but I see how it could be annoying. I hadn’t thought of the vibrations concern, not sure if it’s an issue or not.

    Awesome video! Very clean style. I don't know how you can stand different size monitors next to each other though.. XD

      Hey! Thanks! I have two 32" LG monitors in my office setup and I prefer it, but I don't really mind having the 27" monitor in my home setup.

    The keyboard looks nice! But the windows layout would throw me off
    It suck’s that there’s no decent mechanical keyboards with a Mac layout :/

    I'm not a Mac user. But in all fairness I'm tempted to switch. On one side we have Linux super customizable, but some drivers either don't exist or they offer just basic compatibility, On another side we have Windows, not customizable or is hard ass hell to make it do your bidding. From your video I conclude Mac is in the middle. Not that much freedom, but also support for nice stuff. At the moment I have an AMD/Nvidia gaming PC built from parts, but the new M1 and M2 laptop from Apple are just wow. I'm really contemplating if I should get one only for the hardware and slap Fedora on it. Then I would have both mobility and awesome hardware. But yeah I wouldn't scrap my gaming PC 😀

    • @joseanmartinez
      @joseanmartinez  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! You're definitely right that Linux is probably the best option when it comes to OS level customization and the freedom that can bring, which isn't really the case with Macbooks. Though I am curious, I haven't tried moving to Linux and haven't felt the need to yet. The M1 or M2 chips are pretty amazing and really powerful. I also like that macbooks are relatively simple machines to use and get started with, they pair nicely with my other apple devices, they're great for doing stuff like video editing and mobile app development, and significantly, the bulk of the customization that I do regarding software development is in the terminal itself and that works great on Macbooks because they are Unix based. I'd say what I'm probably missing out on the most is good tiling window managers, though I've heard of some options on Macbooks. Running Linux on these machines sounds really interesting, but I believe that native support for it isn't available yet and you might have to do some workarounds like using virtualization to get that working.

    Do you find it troublesome to switch the screen between your laptop and Switch? Sometimes I wish there was a button that could instantly toggle between them with just one press.

    What varnish did you apply on the table? It looks shiny and smooth.

    • @joseanmartinez
      @joseanmartinez  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! It’s oil based clear gloss polyurethane from the Varathane brand. It’s a good finish in terms of protection and I also really like the glossy smooth look it creates!

    which dock are you using?

    • @joseanmartinez
      @joseanmartinez  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I'm actually not using a dock currently. With the M1 Pro Macbook's built in ports and my bluetooth accessories, I've been able to remove the need for it, though it does sometimes come in handy. I used to use a hyperdrive usb-c hub. I've heard the caldigit ts3 plus or caldigit ts4 docks are some of the best options. Hope that helps!

      @muntasirmahmudsaif6239 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joseanmartinez do you keep your macbook always plugged in? i'm getting confused about this. I have seen everyone using ts3 plus always plugged in but some articles say one shouldn't plug in all the time.

    is 1440p enough?
    don't you want 4k?

    • @joseanmartinez
      @joseanmartinez  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! A 4k monitor would be nice for the video editing side of things, but 1440p is enough for software dev. I will probably upgrade in the future, but it’s not something incredibly urgent as of right now, so I haven’t yet.
