As a lifelong SF Giants fan, I remember pacing outside my house in the backyard, smoking like a chimney for the last out of this game. Never been more nervous watching a sports contest. 2001 vs. the Angels taught me it's never over till it's over. After the Giants kicked that ball around CF, I just couldn't watch anymore. My wife told me when they had won and I could come in, where we celebrated together and drank whisky and champagne. The Giants will probably never win another World Series in my lifetime, and I'm fine with that. I got my share. Bumgarner is a legend. P.S. If the Royals tried to send that runner home; no doubt in my mind Crawford would've thrown him out by 10 feet. Crawford & Posey are two of the most clutch defensive players in MLB history. P.S. I'm really glad the Royals won the championship the following year. Kansas City baseball fans deserved it.
I will never forget that 9th inning of Game 7. When Gordon got to third base, my heart has never pounded that hard in my entire life! If the Royals had tied the game, I don't see how SF could've won. There wasn't even anyone warming up in the Giants' bullpen even though MadBum was into his fifth inning on 2 days' rest.
Man that was the best time of my life. I was just fresh off the boat and started my international student life in the Bay Area. I played some baseball during my college days in China but never watched any MLB games due to broadcast restrictions at the time. It was a perfect moment for me to start watching the Giants as they were making their historic play off run. The entire dorm stayed together and watched the Game 7. Everyone was cheering and crying and throwing popcorn at each other. It was great. Too bad I didn’t get the chance to go to the parade that coming Friday because of a stupid scheduling problem. Still it was a perfect timing for me to start watching the MLB games.
Linus Tan it was a terrible decision to have the parade on Friday. 1 because it was friday ending during the evening commute and 2 it was on holloween so everything was all messed up. I had to walk 3 and half miles home because the muni wasnt running.
That was not a historic run because they had won the two of the last six world series and also it was the other side that had the historic run sweeping through the playoffs untill they hit a brick wall
@@mr.gullible2506 well for a slow guy he was one heck of a good third baseman. That guy had cat like reflexes. It was amazing watching Pablo play 3rd. Best lowball hitter I've ever seen too.
Yeah the “because it was a deep outfield” Pablo was able to tag up and make it to third off of belts hits is just bullshit. Like if it wasn’t a deep outfield it would have been a home run.
@@ballsdeep9400 yeah ik Oracle park is one of the hardest parks to hit home runs in (although the giants are doing a good job disproving that this year). I’m just saying the fact it was a deep outfield has nothing to do with the fact Pablo could have tagged up. Like the depth of the outfield has literally no effect because it’s either a deep outfield allowing the outfielder to make a catch or it’s not a deep outfield and it’s a home run
@@mr.gullible2506 How are the giants disproving a scientific fact? Lol do you think people call Colorado a hitter friendly ball park cause it’s their opinion?
@@ballsdeep9400 because they’re on track to hit the most homeruns in a single season. My reasoning isn’t that complicated they’re leading the league in homeruns. I understand it’s still a hard park to hit homeruns in. Which makes the giants hitting so many homeruns even more impressive. My point before was that the fact that the final game took place in the royals stadium does not at all have any significance on that sacrifice fly like the video was trying to claim it did. There point that because the royals have a deep outfield therefore there was enough room to tag up and score was dumb and made zero sense because guess what would happen if the royals didn’t have a deep outfield. It would have been a homerun
This is and will always be my all-time favorite episode. I used to hate the abrupt stop at the end but I've begun to see just how great of an idea it is. The video is about Bum and that 3 second moment in time. Its not about the Giants winning the 3rd title in 5 yrs (sorry i couldn't resist). All you guys at SB Nation are awesome!
Madbum's run in 2014 was the most dominant pitching in the postseason I've ever witnessed and I've been watching since the early 90s...don't think I'll ever see a run like it again. Doesn't matter if his regular season stats fall short of other guys, dude will forever be a legend in baseball after what he did in 2014.
Madbum in the post-season brought back early childhood memories of watching Jordan in the postseason. Poise and dominance. Lifetime Giants fan and if that's the last one I ever see them win I'm OK with that
That guy was such a nervous wreck it was hilarious. "...with technology and stuff." Bold decision by Chevrolet to let some local dealership guy do the trophy presentation instead of a PR professional.
This game has a special place in my heart, at the time I was 10 years old and just moved to San Francisco and barely spoke English however me and my dad loved baseball. Even though we are dodgers fans we still caught every giants game on local broadcast and I saw this game with my whole family. That was the last game I saw with my mom. Miss you so much mamá 💙💙🤞
I'm so glad I got to watch that series. When Bumgarner came into the game in the 5th(!!) who knew he would get a 5 inning save! Wow, what a competitor.
@@mjwbulich don't feel bad, he'll always have the regular season to fondly look back on. Mr. Regular Season, the regular season🐐, Back-To-Back-to-Back regular season champ.
Possibly the most dominant World Series performance ever. He was absolutely unstoppable. Once they brought him in I knew it was over. There was no way the Giants were losing that, no matter how dire it looked at times
I know it has been 2 years but this is a very important detail. This video would be how a third base coach lost the world series by 30 feet if they would have let Craw unload that. He had ball in hand as the runner got to third, and the guys is known for accuracy as much as velocity. Later today is game one of the 2021 Giants v. Dodgers playoffs, and there is a reason people are chanting MVP when he walks out.
Ah, memories. One of the best moments of my life to that point. MadBum put on what I felt was one of the most heroic sporting performances of all time not only in game 7 but also the two he started. Easily the most dominant pitching performance in WS history (that I'm aware of, but don't quote me because I absolutely could be wrong). I will have love for that dude no matter what he does or where he goes in his career and beyond. Awesome video, thanks for that!
I get goosebumps thinking about how dominate mad bum was , it was like he had this quite killer mentality that everyone was afraid of , he had the greatest world series as a pitcher in history !! I was a senior in high school when this game happened
Just so you know Bruce Bochy (not the bench coach ) made so many moves like the Perez move, as a Giants fan Bruce Bochy legit made magic happen with the moves he made . Can’t wait to go see him get inducted into the HOF
Royals fan here. Man, I wanted that win, but MadBum had our number the whole series. We had a magical run, and it literally felt like he was the only player that could stop us. Take the very next year as an example, we won so many clutch games. Thankfully didn't have to face MadBum that year! Incredible respect for him.
@LetMeEatFlesh you aint lying brother , that series win was too close for comfort !!! The Giants 2 other series wins in 2010 and 2012 felt like destiny almost, but 2014 was rough ! The Royals weren't going away , and as a Giants fan it literally felt like we only had 1 pitcher on the roster by the time game 7 ended . It took an all-time historic performance by a future HOF pitcher to pull that one off .
Always wish Alex had mentioned that. Waving Gordon in to test Crawford would've been _insanely_ risky, and most likely would've been an easy out at the plate. Crawford has an absolute cannon.
I can remember watching this game from my house in Kansas City, this video was a little painful to watch but also extremely well done. It’s so cool that you guys break down all of the different circumstances leading up to that nail biter ninth inning. Gordon’s possible inside the parker, Perez being hit, and even the All-Star game situation.
I love this video for historical context as a Giants fan, but there are a few important points: 1.) under today’s rules, Royals still would have had home field due to a better record 1a.) if Giants had home field advantage, we (statistically) would have had a higher chance to win 2.) Belt could have gotten more than a sac fly if the Kauffman dimensions were smaller, but left center in SF is also massive 2.) the umps made the right call after the replay; it would have been an unfair error if the Royals benefited off a bad call 3.) that defensive shift on Aoki was truly miraculous 4.) if gordon went for an inside the park home run he would have been out by 20 feet Absolutely love the video. As a giants fan, I watch it often
Well done and very interesting. As the story goes, in the 7th inning while the Giants were batting, one of the Giants relievers gets up to go to the bullpen to warm up. Bumgarner saw him and commanded, "Where you going? You ain't gettin' in the game!" The reliever sat down.
Those Royals teams were so much fun. They had speed to burn and when rosters expanded, the combination of Cain, Dyson, and Gore gave teams absolute fits on the bases. I know people love the home run ball but this series was just plain fun to me. Old School pitching, defense, and speedy baserunning.
A word on Ishikawa; he's a first baseman that was converted into playing left field, as the Giants had no one better, and wanted to keep hiya bat in the line up. He's a journeyman who had the MOST AMAZING homerun to get the Giants into the World Series. Plus, he's humble and a dedicated follower of Jesus. His story is worth a rewind.
I almost stopped the video when you suggested that Gordon would have scored. He would have been out by a mile. It would have taken screw-ups by Brandon Crawford AND Buster Posey, who are both Gold Glovers. One thing that almost never gets discussed is that KC could have (and maybe should have) used a pinch hitter for Perez. As was pointed out he got plunked on the leg, so he wasn't going to be able to run. He wouldn't beat out an infield hit, so he would need a clean single. Ned Yost had Jarrod Dyson on the bench who is fast - he could have bunted for a hit, or shown bunt to get the infield moving to account for it. That would have given KC more chances to get the run home. The other interesting thing about the at bat was that Posey/Bumgarner knew Perez would try to be the hero. Bum never threw a strike - all the pitches were up, designed to get Perez to do exactly what he did - pop out, which is the easiest out to get. Note how Posey starts in a squat, but is already standing up by the time Bum goes through his motions. That was the gameplan, and it worked.
Honestly I see all of these people in the comments suggesting he should have been waived home, but they're only saying that because they saw the other outcome so they assume the alternative would have been better. Can you imagine the fan outrage if he had been thrown out by 20 ft to end the world series? It would have been considered one if the biggest blunders in sports history and all the same people would be wondering what would have happened if Perez had a chance to drive him in. It's completely ludicrous.
@@davidmayberry3190 Yup, and a 3rd base coach that makes that kind of blunder to end a World Series Game 7 is a 3rd base coach that's probably looking for work the following week.
Don't care if he is out by mile, fine, but the throw can go off line or he could overthrow catcher. They lost on pop up, not exciting in the slightest, play at plate would have been better. People acting like bad throws don't happen.
@@chazzx1018 Except it's not a "play at the plate", it's a play where the ball gets to Posey and Gordon is at least 20-30 feet away. You don't just need a "bad throw" to score the run, you literally need Brandon Crawford, who was one of the best defensive infielders of the 2010s, to fling the ball to the backstop. Any decision that rests on that is a crap strategy. Even if you assume that the next batter has only a 5% chance of getting a hit, that's still better odds than Crawford and Posey allowing Gordon (who, again, is out by 20-30 feet on a clean relay) to score. Holding Gordon at third was unambiguously the correct decision. It just didn't work out for them.
Man... you all really put out some of the best sports video content right now. It’s always intriguing, gripping, informative, and super nuanced. Keep it up.
Having the All Star game decide who got home field advantage was incredibly smart! It made the All Star game worth something which is way more than you could say about other sports all star games.
The Crown Bandit is what me and the boys called him on that game 7 night.. Cried, but not even mad. All the tragedy them boys in blue game in as a child paid off with that playoff and WS run, much less the revenge tour that came the following season! I grew up watching the team that won in 2012 and 2014, and there hasn't been a team since to captivate me as much as they did. MB and Sandoval were two of the best, and, to this day, are still some of my favorite players to ever hit the diamond.
The Giants’ non-Bumgarner starters in that series: 0-3 with a 9.35 ERA Even the one game SF won that he did not throw a pitch, they had to score 11 runs
Man, SB Nation have certainly jumped up on my fav content creators list. They put out some of the most interesting, and hilarious, stuff I've ever seen. Kudos guys!
I'm sorry, but gordon would have been out by 60 feet, crawford has one of the best SS arms in the MLB, and he would have had plenty of time to gun hosmer. That is the worst argument ever
Don’t get me wrong, bumgarner was a beast but I feel like the defensive plays the giants made don’t get enough recognition like panik breaking his belt for that double play or Juan Perez’s catch in bums first inning in the 5th. Could have been a whole different ball game.
An ep on the Minneapolis Miracle would be awesome. So much backstory there, there's the 2009 NFC Championship and rivalry from bountygate, Vikings history of choking at the end of playoff games, Sean Payton continuing his history of mocking the other team, the fact that Case Keenum is QB and not Bridgewater or Bradford. Even though the Eagles won the next week it was a crazy moment with a lot of stuff to rewind to.
I disagree, I feel as it wouldn't represent anything to do with Minnesota well. The Minneapolis Miracle didn't lead to a Superbowl win for Minnesota, instead proved their fluke the next week when they got demolished by the Eagles. If you mention 2009 and the Saints, you're just showing the fact that Minnesota lost to the eventual Superbowl champs. People overrate the Minneapolis Miracle because It was a big moment in the playoffs, but in order to make that video...It would have to be about the Eagles' run that defied all odds. That would be way more interesting with the Wentz/Foles situation, the whole Andy Reid/Chip Kelly/Doug Pederson transition, the "Meaningless" Miracle, and the Bill Belichick-Malcolm Butler feud.
I heartily disagree. The Eagles were obviously the better team last year, but that story is not nearly as juicy as the story of the Miracle. And everyone already knows the story of the Eagles run, but there's a lot of subsurface tension between the Vikings and Saints that most fans outside of Minnesota and New Orleans don't pick up on. It's a lot like the Immaculate Reception. Sure the Steelers lost the next week to the undefeated '72 Dolphins, but that's not super important to the play. It's still its own separate incredible story, part of (in this case the start of) a compelling rivalry with the Raiders, and one of the craziest and best known plays in the history of the NFL.
I mean that I see that play everywhere as this "incredible moment". It was an error by a rookie safety, on a young secondary that without him and Lattimore the Saints would've only dreamed of the playoffs. Diggs just had to catch the ball and run forward. In hindsight, people spoke more about the Williams error than the supreme effort made by the Vikings. It would've been an epic moment if the Vikings beat the Eagles and went on to face the Pats with home field advantage. Maybe it could've been one of those foundational plays that Minnesota fans look to when they finally have a championship to go with their illustrious history of hall of fame players and coaches. However it represents nothing more than a rookie who made an error. To me, this has nothing on other moments like the Tuck Rule game, the Malcolm Bulter interception, or the David Tyree helmet catch.
Sure it wasn't the most impressive athletic play, but this series is specifically about about famous sports plays with a lot of buildup. I mean so far we've had a foul pop-out and a mid-range jump shot. Not brilliant athletic plays, just brilliant stories. Diggs high point catch and effort to stay in bounds shows more athletic prowess than either of those, but that's still not the point. What makes it an incredible moment, and more than just a mistake by a rookie safety, is the backstory, which is what this series is about to begin with. I think I can see why we disagree though. You point to 3 great plays that led to Super Bowl wins. But most of the great NFL moments we remember didn't lead there, and it honestly doesn't make them any less great. You can go down the list, from the Immaculate Reception, to the Sea of Hands, The Drive, Both Miracles at the Meadowlands, The Miracle at the Met, Ghost to the Post, the Beast-Quake Game, The Bills-Oilers Comeback, The Music City Miracle. All awe-inspiring moments. You can always look to the future to make them seem like they didn't matter, but this show is about the opposite: rewinding.
Brandon Crawford's hose piece would have beat Alex Gordon home if he tried to round 3rd and score so that talk doesn't matter. Crawford best defensive SS in the league.
As a Royals fan, this video reopened some wounds I thought were healed.. But this was an absolutely fantastic video. There is no denying how dominant Bumgarner was.

I@colby the 2015 royals were a fluke. In 2016 they were .500 with basically the same team. They had a great bullpen and a mediocre team. If will harris didn’t suck in game 4 of the ALds the Astros would have beaten the royals in 2015. Harris also cost the Astros the 2019 World Series.
I'm glad you mentioned Perez's catch in left in the 5th. That's the unsung play of the game right there. Bumgarner is shaky in his 'first' inning, so Perez got him out of it and he settled down
Do one of these on the royals winning the series in 15. In hindsight its pretty remarkable for a team that hadn't been in the postseason; yet alone a World Series in 29 years to go to the World Series, lose, COME BACK, and win. I am biased but I feel like theres a lot to unpack there.

QQ
That was not a historic run because they had won the two of the last six world series and also it was the other side that had the historic run sweeping through the playoffs untill they hit a brick wall
Linus Tan are you Cuban ?
definitely not a historic run. they've won two by this point.
I love how Pablo Sandoval isn’t even that slow, even with his size. I’m honestly impressed with him.
He slimed down around that time. Used to be way way slower and more outta shape
Fans gave him the Kungfu Panda nickname, probably for being nimble despite his size.
@@ST-zi2sn It’s because he leaped over a catcher on a play at the plate. Yes, this actually happened.
@@mr.gullible2506 well for a slow guy he was one heck of a good third baseman. That guy had cat like reflexes. It was amazing watching Pablo play 3rd. Best lowball hitter I've ever seen too.
“Having to play game 7 on the road is actually an advantage” is a helluva take
Yeah the “because it was a deep outfield” Pablo was able to tag up and make it to third off of belts hits is just bullshit. Like if it wasn’t a deep outfield it would have been a home run.
@@mr.gullible2506 lol dude Oracle park is literally 10 FT from the ocean AND deeper, the ocean makes it way harder to hit dingers
Absolutely legendary performance from Madison that postseason
This is and will always be my all-time favorite episode. I used to hate the abrupt stop at the end but I've begun to see just how great of an idea it is. The video is about Bum and that 3 second moment in time. Its not about the Giants winning the 3rd title in 5 yrs (sorry i couldn't resist). All you guys at SB Nation are awesome!
Madbum's run in 2014 was the most dominant pitching in the postseason I've ever witnessed and I've been watching since the early 90s...don't think I'll ever see a run like it again. Doesn't matter if his regular season stats fall short of other guys, dude will forever be a legend in baseball after what he did in 2014.
and now he sucks
Madbum in the post-season brought back early childhood memories of watching Jordan in the postseason. Poise and dominance. Lifetime Giants fan and if that's the last one I ever see them win I'm OK with that
How could you forget to mention the unforgettable Chevy guy who handed the World Series MVP to Bumgarner
Ugh. I'm so glad the Stanley Cup MVP isn't the Pepsico Conn Smythe Trophy. Nothing ruins a great moment like forced sponsorship.
Alex Meyers and I hope it's Ovi lighting it
That guy was such a nervous wreck it was hilarious. "...with technology and stuff." Bold decision by Chevrolet to let some local dealership guy do the trophy presentation instead of a PR professional.
There needs to be a 30 for 30 on that guy
😅😅😅😅😅
This game has a special place in my heart, at the time I was 10 years old and just moved to San Francisco and barely spoke English however me and my dad loved baseball. Even though we are dodgers fans we still caught every giants game on local broadcast and I saw this game with my whole family. That was the last game I saw with my mom. Miss you so much mamá 💙💙🤞
I'm so glad I got to watch that series. When Bumgarner came into the game in the 5th(!!) who knew he would get a 5 inning save! Wow, what a competitor.
As a Royals fan I remember this moment painfully well
anyone else here after Kershaw choked in the 2019 NLDS?
Was just about to say this lol
I'm a Bay Area native. A third generation Giants fan. An avowed Dodger hater. I just feel bad for Kershaw at this point.
@@mjwbulich Same here, he would've been great if he came to us.
@@mjwbulich don't feel bad, he'll always have the regular season to fondly look back on. Mr. Regular Season, the regular season🐐, Back-To-Back-to-Back regular season champ.
Clayton doesn't have the heart of a champion
god I remember that moment. greatest moment of my life at the time. still gives me chills.
Possibly the most dominant World Series performance ever. He was absolutely unstoppable. Once they brought him in I knew it was over. There was no way the Giants were losing that, no matter how dire it looked at times
AT&T Park has damp grass and a deep outfield too. Only difference is the DH.
Jake Cosenza And that’s what they needed to get the lead, however madbum hitting doesn’t seem to safe either lol
I remember hearing the trumpet call of the cavalry when MadBum came in from the bullpen in relief. The air was let out of the entire stadium.
One of my all time favorite Giants. No other Giant had a playoff stretch that legendary.
I don’t think any team would want their season to end with a failed inside the park hr
Wouldn't have been anyways since there were two errors on the play.
Coinraker there weren’t any errors it was misplayed but no error lol
How about Manuel Cabrera at home with the series on the line watching a Sergio romo called 3rd strike wiz past him with the bat on his shoulder?
Would’ve been more exciting then a foul out
How could you not mention B Craw's strong arm at short. He was the cut off man.
Well I seen 60 WS in my lifetime and nothing comes close to what Madbum did.
MAD BUM mowed down my Mets in the 2016 Wildcard Game he is the Best Post Season pitcher I've ever seen!
1 of if not the best postseason pitching performances I've ever seen.
This might be the greatest video I’ve ever watched. It’s incredible
Who else is here in 2019 after getting that feeling again? The old core may have one last run left boys
They won't catch the Dodgers, but maybe the wildcard?
They didn't have that magic this year (it's dead) but man oh man, the Dodgers choking was cash money.
Jman thegiantsfan 🤞✊🤞
Giants from '10-'14 best team in MLB.
Well bumgarner is gone now 😞
Royals fan here.
@@fredericoespinoza897 but the key phrase here is, they pulled it off.
Thank you for this. I remember holding my new born daughter watching this game on the floor because I was so nervous. Go Giants!!
With Crawford on the relay, he had NO CHANCE. He is a clutch performer with an amazingly strong arm.
Always wish Alex had mentioned that. Waving Gordon in to test Crawford would've been _insanely_ risky, and most likely would've been an easy out at the plate. Crawford has an absolute cannon.
I’ve never cried during any game, but this game 7 was special and a few tears came out when the Giants won
One of THE best performances in the history of the game!
This G's fan loved every inning of the series.
Bum just wrapped it ip with a ribbon!
Yay my Giants getting some love
I can remember watching this game from my house in Kansas City, this video was a little painful to watch but also extremely well done. It’s so cool that you guys break down all of the different circumstances leading up to that nail biter ninth inning. Gordon’s possible inside the parker, Perez being hit, and even the All-Star game situation.
I still get chills from that last inning in Kansas City. What a game even though my Royals lost
these rewiders are some epic storytelling videos. keep up the good work!
I love this video for historical context as a Giants fan, but there are a few important points:
1.) under today’s rules, Royals still would have had home field due to a better record
1a.) if Giants had home field advantage, we (statistically) would have had a higher chance to win
2.) Belt could have gotten more than a sac fly if the Kauffman dimensions were smaller, but left center in SF is also massive
2.) the umps made the right call after the replay; it would have been an unfair error if the Royals benefited off a bad call
3.) that defensive shift on Aoki was truly miraculous
4.) if gordon went for an inside the park home run he would have been out by 20 feet
Absolutely love the video.
Gordon was going to be out by 15 feet if he went for it.
Agreed. Crawford is an awesome defensive SS, and he has a cannon for an arm
They were an incredible two teams to watch, and very well-matched. Both dynamic defenses and clutch hitters, with some very good pitching.
He would have been meat if he was sent. Crawford has a cannon and is a gold Glover. KC would have complained about the 3rd base coach for sending him.
His religion isn't important, but everything else you said is spot on. Ishikawa is a Giants legend
@@mrcnub still should have been looking for job.
I don't think the vid did justice for just how awesome bums performance was
Man... you all really put out some of the best sports video content right now. It’s always intriguing, gripping, informative, and super nuanced. Keep it up.
Having the All Star game decide who got home field advantage was incredibly smart! It made the All Star game worth something which is way more than you could say about other sports all star games.
It used to be NL in even years, AL in odd, which flipped after the 1994 WS was cancelled. That's fine with me.
no it didn't
it still got terrible rating and was an idiotic idea
The Crown Bandit is what me and the boys called him on that game 7 night.. Cried, but not even mad. All the tragedy them boys in blue game in as a child paid off with that playoff and WS run, much less the revenge tour that came the following season! Hopefully it wont be another 30 before we win it all again, but if it is, I will at least have the 14+15 seasons to reflect on as an old dawg.
Bruce Bochy always pressing the correct buttons
As a diehard Bay Area fan(9ers, Giants, Warriors and sharks) I loved this video and era for the giants
I remember I almost died when that error happened in center field. Right up there with Bill Buckner.
I grew up watching the team that won in 2012 and 2014, and there hasn't been a team since to captivate me as much as they did. MB and Sandoval were two of the best, and, to this day, are still some of my favorite players to ever hit the diamond.
This is honestly one of the best videos I’ve ever watched in me life
Amazing videos. Everything is so well producing and researched. Absolutely fantastic job!
The Giants’ non-Bumgarner starters in that series: 0-3 with a 9.35 ERA
Even the one game SF won that he did not throw a pitch, they had to score 11 runs
Man, SB Nation have certainly jumped up on my fav content creators list. They put out some of the most interesting, and hilarious, stuff I've ever seen. Kudos guys!
I'm sorry, but gordon would have been out by 60 feet, crawford has one of the best SS arms in the MLB, and he would have had
plenty of time to gun hosmer. That is the worst argument ever
It was a magical postseason run for my royals, and as much as that final at bat hurt, i wouldn't change that season for anything
Don’t get me wrong, bumgarner was a beast but I feel like the defensive plays the giants made don’t get enough recognition like panik breaking his belt for that double play or Juan Perez’s catch in bums first inning in the 5th. Could have been a whole different ball game.
I love this rewind series so much, please keep doing them!
This was the nicest comment thread between people who disagree that I have ever seen.
Definitely was waving Gordon home from my seat down the third base line. MadBum was absolutely spectacular that whole postseason.
Ahh the memories

In the playoffs, no. But Kershaw had 3 Cy Youngs and 1 MVP. Bumgarner has neither.

This entire series is available in HD on TH-cam.. It was still awesome the second time watching it.. 👍👌
I'm glad you mentioned Perez's catch in left in the 5th. That's the unsung play of the game right there. Bumgarner is shaky in his 'first' inning, so Perez got him out of it and he settled down
Who’s excited for the Giants home opener today against the Royals!? Madbum is legendary!

Do one of these on the royals winning the series in 15. In hindsight its pretty remarkable for a team that hadn't been in the postseason; yet alone a World Series in 29 years to go to the World Series, lose, COME BACK, and win. I am biased but I feel like theres a lot to unpack there.
Yeah they didn't pull a Rangers, who lost WS consecutive years in '10 and '11.
