    suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, we seem to be at the very cusp of BOTH: robots being able to fully make robots. from scratch
    AND ALSO: AI writing better AI.
    we might be closer to the singularity than anyone even imagined just 5 years ago.

  • @capitalistdingo

    Today I realized a great application for humanoid robots. When bags of products come off the machine in packaging meant to be hung on pegs in stores the holes punched in them are usually more like dents. This means that when retail employees open the cases they need to go and get a hole punch to finish the job that automation was supposed to accomplish. A humanoid bot could exam in the bags and use a hole punch to finish the job the original automation failed to do before they go into the cases and ship them to stores.
    In all the years of making peg-hung products they have never been able to get the hole punching consistent so maybe super advanced AI can solve this.

    Help me better understand something. All we hear about is video-based learning, but then bot training seems to be entirely based on “teleoperation” which seems to be doing the task via remote control, not by watching video of the task being done. What am I missing?

    • @edwardhackett-jones8126
      @edwardhackett-jones8126 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You might be missing the idea that two different things can be true simultaneously. As a wholly clueless observer, I imagine that early training is best done by teleoperation, and the finessed and sped up by vision learning. I also imagine that once the bots have a fairly broad range of abilities they will increasingly be able to learn for themselves

    • @chrisgarner5765
      @chrisgarner5765 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are not missing much let's look at like NVIDIA you take the robot and put it into NVIDIA omniverse and train 10000 of their robots with AI and deep learning also it runs faster than real time it would learn to do the task for real! Then you would load the AI model onto the robot!

    • @grgmetube
      @grgmetube 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I am uncertain about Tesla AI but I imagine it is similar to some other companies robot AI. These other companies use teleoperation to learn a range of tasks then the robots can improvise or apply different actions they learnt this way in new sequences to accomplish a different task.

    I have had several instances where FSD (12.3.6) corrects for a previous error on a subsequent try. For example, approaching an intersection that was a normal cross-street but is now a roundabout. FSD wanted to make a left turn but I disengaged, completed the roundabout, and re-engaged FSD. A half hour later FSD approached the same intersection from the same direction and properly completed the roundabout rather than trying to make a left turn.
    So, I can imagine the same sort of "learning" is employed in the bots.
    That said, my wife wants to know if a husband gets a Neuralink implant, could he finally "learn" to put down the toilet seat?😊
    The possibilities are endless!

    This is interesting. It’s also interesting to compare this to what a human would do.
    In the case of placing batteries, a human, if doing this by hand, would pick one up, wait for the next to arrive, and pick another one up with the second hand, and then swivel and place both batteries.
    Of course this is somewhat artificial, as there are still better ways of doing this particular task, using custom automation and loading frames - but all that would need to be specially designed for just that one task and nothing else.
    Where as Optimus is training for general purpose usage, which is a far more difficult task.

    • @alanhall6909
      @alanhall6909 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would either pick one up with my left and throw it to my right hand to drop in place. Or, I would pick up two with one hand and drop them in two at a time, possibly alternating left and right hands. For assembly lines, fixed industrial robots will continue to do most of the work. Use of humans is for the more precise coordinated detail work so that is what Optimus is going to have to do. Not easy.

      "In the case of placing batteries, a human, if doing this by hand, would pick one up, wait for the next to arrive, and pick another one up with the second hand, and then swivel and place both batteries."
      Many humans wouldn't do it that way. If there were more than one battery available to pick up, a human may pick up batteries with both hands, or just using one hand at a time. But if there is only one battery and the delay is big enough a human wouldn't wait for the next battery before performing the task. It all depends on how to best optimize the speed and ergonomic for the particular work place. Robots do have an advantage on the latter part.
