    Tesla, rather than hiring drivers:
    1. Provide Tesla vehicles to high-rated Uber and Lyft drivers,
    with option to buy.
    2. Provide an onboard App that explains FSD to customers being transported.
making good on promises to investors on advertising.
    3. Reward those drivers giving transport as a service, "Edge-case Tesla Points" that can
be redeemed at Tesla service centers and restaurants.
    4. Very high mileage transport service drivers should be able to "earn" a Tesla outright, via referral
    credits.
    5. Offer car insurance discounts (up to 100%) to ride service drivers based on quality
of edge-case discoveries and driver safety.

Tesla… will never hire drivers. Tesla will contract with the millions of owners of Tesla EV’s to use their cars on the Tesla Rideshare network when they are not using their car. The average EV owner only use their car 12/15 hours per week. Tesla will pay them on a per mile basis to use their cars for rideshare cars.
So NOBODY will be capable of competing with Teslas Robotaxi business… ever.

So you should be aware that if you’re not someone who uses FSD on every drive like I do, you can opt in and opt out whenever you want to, at least that’s how I understand the system is set up, and so you do not have to sign up for say a 6 months or a year or two like the cable companies do or these phone companies do.
So you can opt in out anytime you want is my understanding.
So the system is supposed to be very flexible, and very nimble, so if you don’t want to do a month-to-month subscription, because there’s no compelling reason to do so , unless again you’re like me, I use FSD on every drive, because I simply do not like driving, as I liken it to doing household chores, like the laundry, washing dishes, mopping, and vacuuming floors, and making up beds, something I never wanted to do. 2:37 ( when you’re here, pause and change your settings ⚙️ to playback speed of .25) this car has eyes in the back of its head. Watch the cyclist appear from the rear, FSD keeps the odometer at 0 until the cyclist ‘runs the stop sign’ and then
gently accelerates into its intended right hand turn….

It has always been a one horse race. I have said it for years, Tesla will be the one solving full self driving because they are actually the only company working on full self driving, everyone else was just putting cars on rails and programming routes and that's impossible to scale. No one will catch Tesla ever, no one has been able to catch Microsoft and their OS and that is not as complicated as FSD is, so forget about anyone developing FSD that can compete with Tesla. The only hope the competition has is to continue spreading FUD and keep hoping it continues slowing down their demise as millions of people still believe their crap.

So I agree with everything you said, except this one thing, and you said they only had one choice, and I say they have another choice, and that is cooperate and graduate, meaning throw in the towel, and stop wasting money pursuing something you simply don’t know how to achieve, therefore, you can never achieve it, and so why not just cooperate with Tesla, and join them in pursuing this technology together, and be done with that, because you’ll always have those who will never buy a Tesla, and continue to buy a Ford or a Mercedes or a Toyota, etc., because they’re loyal to these car companies, and they will continue to buy their products, and so I don’t think that they would care if the software, that ran in their cars were made by Tesla or someone else, and so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, because it’s a no-brainer, and it’s exactly what they’re going to have to do if they’re going to stay in business.
So Tesla will become a monopoly like Microsoft was for years before they got sued by the federal government for violating, the federal anti-trust laws, by using their monopolistic power to stop others from entering the space, and so they complied with the law, paid their penalties, and now I suppose, everyone is happy.
So I wouldn’t discount brand loyalty, because loyalty is really a powerful thing. Cheers 🥂

FSD doesn’t collect sign data and reflects it on the screen. When the road forks, it can’t tell which road is the main road from the on ramp or off ramp or merging lane. So these are the blind spots that make FSD less useful and reasons why I often disengage it.

FSD from Tesla may very well follow the path of Microsoft with the original release of its Windows version 1 in 1985. Windows today is the OS standard for the vast majority of PCs worldwide. Microsoft collects a licensing fee from all those PC manufacturers. For almost 40 years Microsoft has been riding that horse with no end in sight. Could Tesla do the same?

Lars, I agree, but it's not all rosy. The Chinese are making good progress too. And that's why Tesla will announce its robotaxi in China by 8/8 (8 is a lucky number). American regulators hate Tesla (see the recent investigation into the 2 million recalls). Europe has no real roadmap and no authorized test areas.
FSD has to be adapted to each country's road conditions. The USA has the same road signs, wide roads everywhere. Europe has narrow roads, with signs that differ from country to country. In China, signage is inadequate and there are very few demarcation lines to separate lanes. So Tesla will have to learn and adapt to each country where it introduces FSD. But China is the most advanced country in terms of ADAS regulations, since it already authorizes L3/L4 (hence the announcement of 8/8 in China).

I have been a tester of FSD for almost a year now. I’m an engineer, so I can be very bullish on FSD in the long run, but with all your glowing statements about FSD, you and Elon are ahead of yourselves. Clearly you haven’t driven the latest FSD version. FSD 12.3.4 still makes repeatable critical mistakes on well-traveled streets and even Interstate highways in California, where I must take over. I’ve reported these and they still aren’t fixed. I don’t see how all of Tesla’s computing power has done much good. V12.3.x is a little better than V11.4.9, but it wasn’t ready for a “free month for everybody” because few Tesla owners have my temperament to be a tester. They just want it to work all the time and not have to pay attention like I am willing to pay attention. This free-month has mostly left a negative impression with my Tesla owning friends.
In the long run, everything you said about fully autonomous driving being a one-horse Tesla race is true. Cruise was using people back at the office taking over their cars all the time. It was never autonomous driving. We will probably find Waymo (and all the other little companies) are doing the same thing.
But the finish line for this horse race is way far away. Tesla putting the Model 2 on the back-burner while trying to push out an announcement for robotaxi on August 8th is lunacy and that’s why Tesla stock is still tanking. There are dozens of critical things FSD must learn with 99.9999% quality before Tesla can take away the steering wheel and brake. Right now, FSD is at the 1% point on schools, school busses, parking lots, backing up, accidents and emergency vehicles of all types. If they aren’t compute constrained, why isn’t all this stuff at 95%? They must have a million ambulance and fire engine video clips. The people still want an inexpensive quality EV, maybe with FSD, not a robotaxi.

"I don’t see how all of Tesla’s computing power has done much good."
Perhaps you should give them some time to use their brand new hardware first? They more than doubled the compute power in this quarter alone. Give them they time to setup the system to feed massive data sets into the system.
"V12.3.x is a little better than V11.4.9, but it wasn’t ready for a “free month for everybody” because few Tesla owners have my temperament to be a tester. "
Tesla is no longer compute constrained. It makes sense to increase the amount of data collection.
" This free-month has mostly left a negative impression with my Tesla owning friends. "
Who cares about your friends? That's a tiny data set.
"But the finish line for this horse race is way far away. "
It may or may not be the case.
"Tesla putting the Model 2 on the back-burner while trying to push out an announcement for robotaxi on August 8th is lunacy and that’s why Tesla stock is still tanking. "
Have you read the q1 report? Tesla is preparing to launch new more affordable models by making a hybrid model between their current manufacturing technologies and the next generation manufacturing technology. And no. The stock is not "still tanking".
"There are dozens of critical things FSD must learn with 99.9999% quality before Tesla can take away the steering wheel and brake."
Incorrect. They just have to be as good as humans.
"If they aren’t compute constrained, why isn’t all this stuff at 95%? "
They just doubled the compute power during the last quarter. They were compute constrained before that. Try to keep up.

Fsd is a huge thing in Tesla world mostly because of hype and face it a lot of hard core tesla fans are technophobes myself included but I feel that it must be pointed out that while cruise control has been generally available for most of my life only 34% of people use it whenever they can. While the same study recorded 20 % of all drivers have never used it and the remaining 43 only occasionally use it. I think exuberance must be tempered regarding expected global adoption of FSD . I think those that follow Tesla and the Ev space closely are not necessarily indicative at all of even general EV Drivers. I wonder how many hard core advocates of FSD also exhibit attention deficit tendencies.

    Here's a thought:
Many times I've heard commentators talk about how if robo-taxi happens then the cost of making them isn't a big deal as the returns are ludicrous.
OK... what if Tesla only makes the hundreds of robo-taxis in Austin needed to prove to US regulators that Tesla has truly solved FSD and it is better than human by a lot. Will Tesla even want to build the taxis?
The OEMs know how to build EVs, just not profitably. What if Tesla turns to them and has them build robo-taxis with the correct cameras and processors?? Let the OEMs stay in business and deal with the expense of running factories while Tesla licenses the FSD software to them?
This would allow Tesla to completely avoid the capital expense of building new factories and also avoids monopoly risk. It keeps the OEMs alive... making them friends rather than enemies and subsequently the politicians too.
Meanwhile Tesla gets a licensing fee and maybe a small percent of each ride? Tesla also is the required insurer for whichever fleet operator buys the OEM taxis..... making even more money in premiums.
Tesla can still build some of the taxis themselves and may in somewhere like India.
Keep your eye on whether they actually break ground in Mexico. If they don't this year then the above scenario may be in play.
    Here's a thought exercise:
The the US has some 280 million registered vehicles. Of that some 120 million (excluding fleet cars) are individually owned cars and motorcycles. If half of those are in areas that robo-taxis might replace then they top number of vehicles to replace would be 60 million (assuming those drivers forgoe owning a car and just take taxis everywhere).
Since a robo-taxis replace around 5 cars that means that you would only need about 12 million taxis in total in the US to provide all the taxis needed. This number is less than how many new cars the OEMs build and sell each year.
So if Tesla built all these taxis itself it would basically put out of business the OEMs. But to do that they would have to build some four factories the size of giga Mexico just for the US market. Why bother? Better to license the software and get a revenue cut than to make everybody mad at you when you put the OEMs out of business.

As soon as I heard Ford and GM dropped FSD R&D, I knew they’d be buying it from Tesla. It’s going to be like Microsoft Windows is to PC Hardware. Not only that, they’re going to simultaneously produce an affordable car. It’s freaking over for Legacy to compete. One of them will merge. I’m betting Ford will merge and that will leave GM, BYD, and Tesla. A few other exotic ones. Let’s see what the future holds.

Just disappear is the way you put it and I think that is accurate. In the past when more than one design was fighting for supremacy and eventually one became dominant the others just died away like Red laser versus blue ray or land lines versus cell phones. I’m sure some land lines still exist but then again some people still ride horses that does not mean the car did not win hands-down. I’m not alone in believing that Waymo Will be forced to concede that they are not capable of driving anywhere let alone in another country. If they are planning for this I have never heard of a plan to be able to drive anywhere . Because one science fiction prediction from 30 years ago was to put some type of sensors in the road and then the signs and then the barriers that would guide cars outfitted with some type of software. This obviously never happened for any of the OEMs let alone trying to get all 50 of the United States to agree to put sensors in their infrastructure seems very impossible because of politics and money. Forget about the rest of the planet . LiDAR and radar are either trick-able or too expensive to be practical for millions of cars in the future. The way I understood it when both vision and radar were used there would be sometimes a conflict with what the car should do and to have a built-in side seat driver like that would definitely be lethal . So the decision was made since millions of cars and billions of car trips occur successfully every day with most people only having two eyes a car with six eyes Placed in more strategic places than any human ever had , would work better than a system with conflicts.I know that I am preaching to the choir please let me know if you think this is inaccurate . Thanks for all of your hard work Lars.

One hole in the thesis, there is still one bottleneck, correction videos.
Not only do you have to sort tens of billions of videos to find the driving errors; then somebody or thing has to find tens of millions of correction videos for the neural net to regress to and benchmark as best practice and out come and all slight variations. AND ALL bad corrections or unacceptable corrections have to be sorted out.
So tens of millions of different edgecases and for each edgecase tens of millions of sorted corrections and examples must be provided AND this is the next bottleneck, processing tens of trillions of videos.
Finding errors is easy, finding corrections in all cases is HARD.

Tesla FSD is still not attention free which is a big hurdle, it will require Tesla to take financial responsibility when they are driving the car.
Tesla will not be able to sell FSD to other OEMs as I believe each vehicle type needs a massive amount of data specific to the placement of the cameras. This is why the CyberTruck does not have FSD, as nowhere near enough data for that vehicle.

  • @noleftturns

Here I go again for the 20th time
    I bought FSD for $10,000 - now it's $8,000
    Econ 101:
Prices go up when demand goes up
Prices go down when demand goes down
    Demand for FSD is down
But here is the question I've asked 20+ times on 20+ TH-cam channels:
When Elon says "FSD is ready"
what does that mean for me?
Can I get in my Model Y and tell FSD to drive me to work
and then read the WSJ and fiddle with my iPhone while FSD drives me to work?
The cop that is writing me a ticket says no - FSD can't drive me while I do other things
The court will find me guilty of reckless driving and endangering others
I'll probably lose my license for a year
What did I get for $10,000?
I still have to have my hands on the steering wheel
I still have to be looking straight ahead
I still have to take over when that cop's flashing lights pulled the car over.
Basically, FSD adds nothing to my driving experience.
Could you tell me what $10,000 bought?

    • @n1k0flow
      @n1k0flow 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Pretty much a very cheap investment for your future assuming you get to keep the FSD even after selling your car. You may not experience the full benefits of it in today's world but decades down the line, you'll be glad you're one of the pioneers who purchased FSD when it was dirt cheap. Assuming the FSD stays with the owner and does not permanently stay with the vehicle.
