    This obsession with supercharging is a bubble that's going to burst bigtime. EVs aren't gas cars. They don't need a supercharging station on every square inch of the planet, just on highways and maybe some key points within cities.

    Hi Lars, first of all I'm All-In Tesla, driving a MY, not a fan of Mercedes, but we have to be fair to mention that the system Omar tested was NOT the Level 3 system (he mentions it at the beginning of the drive and it can be recognized at the steering wheel, Lvl 3 solution has a special wheel), this was the Level 2 system. Level 3 only works on specific highways in California, not on "normal" roads as they are not mapped and you need a car ahead of you. Anyway this Mercedes Level 2 system is much worse than the normal Autopilot of Tesla - which I am usually driving with as FSD V12 doesn't exist here in Europe, as you know.

      Thanks for the clarification! It doesn’t make Merc’s L3 system sound much better, but good to know the intervention rate should be significantly lower
      …if you’re on a Merc-mapped highway AND are following another car… ;-)

    I believe you forgot to mention that the "4-day shutdown" basically just gave Tesla employees a long weekend off, as Thursday was a public holiday, and starting the factory up for a single day on Friday is probably not very cost-effective anyway. At least here in Norway many, if they have the opportunity, will take that Friday off and have a 4-day "mini vacation" - I expect many of the employees at Grünheide appreciate this too.

      @@bluetoad2668 "Most people think it through but more than 50% of new vehicles are bought by companies and then there's not so much thinking going on."
      Incorrect. If a company were to buy an electric vehicle they would be dumb to not buy a Tesla.
      "A lot buy hybrids."
      That's not surprising considering the fact that many countries have offered incentives for buying a car they can drive as a fossil car. For many companies you need a well developed charging infrastructure as well in order to make the transition.

      @@bluetoad2668We have a fleet of only 12 EV but starting with the first in 2008 for promotion we also had hybrids - expensive shit for dummies - and even worse PHEV which after Diesel are the next SCAM. The other is on the way to impress idiots with e-Fuels and H2 which will never ever be serious to spend energy for a 12% energy efficiency where even horses where better! Including inflation and amortization of chargers and PV the fleet costs more than 30% less and had quite no downtimes as servicing takes far less time. But 65% of all car owners do not know their TCO and fleet owner buy the cheapest offer of automotive. They do not care of dependency on insecure oil producers not sharing our values but stealing our money with their partially owned ICE companies. So they told that engines are „greener“ and consume less but build insane SUV boxes most people do not need and consuming not less than before. 40 years cheaters and betrayers promise 2-LITRES-CARS but only TESLA and Koreans have cars the consumer the equivalent of 2 litres of premium gazoline but keep also in mind that a CT consumes not more than 4 litres in fact! This is also mindblowing and no press paid by legacy will ever report on that. So with more than 68% depending also on energy mix EVs are highly efficient without consider too much overrated Fastcharger infrastructure. We do mostly HOME and DESTINATION charging in 10 Seconds and have a climatized car in the morning. Like 70% around the world we never do 300 miles or 500 km in a day! This by then is today a healthy distance to drive. So many arguments today are fake and even not true as people compare products that are not to compare. A KIA EV6 AWD with 333 PS/608 Nm e.g. must be compared with something similar in performance and driveability and last but not least prices which is hard in comparison of similar powerful ICE costing definitely 30‘000 UDS plus more. So the nearest also on track was Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrofoglio Verde with 510 Ferrari-PS but „only“ 600 Nm and 8 speed automatic gearbox and of course no instant torque. This car however then uses 10 litres on 100 km only with a very soft accelerator pedal! So do never mix apples with lemons which are mostly never the same and then also Tesla prices are rather relative. Like the early iPhone adopters we paid more than today but with the Roadster with 2.O battery and more or less complete overhaul and improvements two years ago we made a big deal even so that the car in fact was free!

      In Switzerland a brand new EQS SUV in daylight and Level 3 on hit at highwayspeed a clearly signaled road maintenance vehicle. The car is a total insurance loss. So would I try the system? Definitely not as it would be to stressful to supervise a car making unexpected manneuvers in absolutely clear situation. At least former FSD from Tesla only was braking when situation was no so sure but with the latest version it’s just like the best human drivers do! That is more than anybody could expect from a self-learning robot and if that only saves 1 mio LIFES it is more than any other automaker did. Do you know that if only a few cars in a pulk drive with FSD and already only adaptive cruise control according to a real life test of Switzerland‘s biggest automobile club there will be substantially less traffic jams on highways as we suffer from every day at neuralgic points! So FSD cars such as Teslas could be used to guarantee flow together with traffic control centers in exchange data e.g. optimized speed etc.

Tesla has the potential to sell cars at a slight loss and make bank on the software as a service end of things. How screwed would all the other manufacturers be if Tesla suddenly cut the sale price of vehicles by 20% across the board? Granted they won't do that because it would kill the cash cow that feeds their ludicrous R&D costs. • @craigweems
    @craigweems 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I have 12.3.6 and it still can’t backup. How can all the pundits sing it’s praises when it can’t backup? The day when you turn on FSD and leave it on is a long time away. I live in the Rocky Mountains where road markings have yet to be reapplied. Scraping the snow off also removes much of the markings that FSD depends on. Without markings results in free fall at exits and entrances. Multiple applicable speed limits in construction zones are disregarded at will. I disengaged in Idaho Springs as I tried to sort out which ones to follow the 65mph or the 40. FSD ignores these remote control signs in error. I support autonomy but not at the cost of safety. The use of FSD by attentive and analytical users will identify edge cases which overtime will be solved. Early on California was identified as an easy application due to its mild climate and good roads. Mountainous regions are everything that California isn’t. Challenging yes, impossible, no. It is doubtless that Tesla has the tools to solve these problems. I attempted to report the Idaho Springs issues and my response was “It didn’t understand” as the recording system is limited. FSD is complicated as the problem is complicated. A satisfactory solution for experienced drivers is possible. The day an owner can toss the key to an inexperienced driver may never come. To think otherwise will only introduce accidents that were never before. There is no reason that this complicated device will not be subject to legal mandates.

    Fossil fuelled planes land lighter than when they take off. Battery planes land with the same weight. This means heavier landing gear for strength and reduced efficiency because empty batteries are still being carried. Also if, like fuel, batteries are in the wings then wings have to be made stronger once again increasing weight.

    People don’t realize that when all these companies buy up all the superchargers and charge exorbitant prices to charge a vehicle is only going to slow down electric integration.

    • @yvanpajevic9680
      @yvanpajevic9680 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      DON'T FORGET 98% of charging occurs at home!
      Also, there won't be a monopoly on electricity the way there is with oil where a few giant corporations control everything.
      Large AND SMALL BUSINESS OF EVERY KIND will be installing superchargers.
      Under this scenario, the price manipulation we've seen with gas, becomes impossible.

    • @williamrogers1219
      @williamrogers1219 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There already is a difference of about 30% per Kwh charging a Tesla on a Tesla supercharger and a non-Tesla charging station. Unfortunately, you don't see the price difference until you drive up to the stall. There should be large price signs at charging stations similar to a gas station.

      True. I was a contractor for BP upstream for 15 years. Energy and transition to renewables has been a goal for them for a long time. Would I trust them with the supercharger network? Heck no, but I do believe they’ll build a reliable network of their own using white boxed superchargers from Tesla.

    BP is hedging charging against gasoline. It’s a smart move by them, otherwise they would eventually go out of business. It will be interesting to see how this develops over the next decade for them and for Shell. I expect exponential growth of their charging business (from zero) over that time.

    26:50 at least for long range flights there is absolutely no realistic chance to get them electric.
    500Wh/kg or even 1000 are by far not enough,
    it will be good for short distance small flights up to 1000km and 10 passenger,
    but for big planes you need 12.000Wh/kg !! this the energy density of Kerosin,
    even if electric is more efficient you need to keep in mind planes need to have much lower weight during landing which is fine with the kerosin being burned but not possible with batteries having same weight even when they are fully discharged.
    you made it good so far , please keep the quality of your information.

    Tesla won't sell sites to BP, considering Elon said they are expanding them (instead of building new sites). However, BP has a point, there are property owners whose deals fell through with the change, so there's opportunity for them. This is also an opportunity for BP to pick up a whole bunch of the former Tesla Supercharger team...perhaps that's the reason he said to contact via LinkedIn?

    FSD combined with C-V2X eliminating accidents and injuries is going to be even more important than all the other safety technologies.
    C-V2X connected cars technology is a quasi super power sensor, able to see through anything and around corners and that should be combined with FSD to end all accidents and injuries involving pedestrians, bikes, animals... It could be retrofited using cell phones or tags, or devices like the Comma ai open pilot device when adopted. The DOT and Tesla need to fast track it ASAP.
