I was there and it was so great to see Mikey really proving his vocal chops. I've never seen him sing lead vocals for an entire song. Satch was amazing! Jason did his daddy proud! Sammy was Sammy! Keyboard guy was keyboardingly great!
He plays VH stiff, is it just me? He sounds like he’s holding his pick to tight. Almost like he wants to prog shred and can’t catch the pocket . VH was a lot of chaos and looseness. Satch is tight and precise
The people complaining about Joe's tone are clueless. Tone is not just the gear, it's also the player. Nuno Bettencourt once played Eddie Van Halen's rig + guitar, and was surprised he didn't sound like Eddie. He sounded like Nuno.
Normally, almost every guitarist have his own tone,just few tried to copy...but if you know forr example 3G Sat, Vai and Malmsteen or Petrucci will see there difference to tone between them.

There is a video post dusty hill of ZZ Top. Anthony and Gibbons as in Billy Gibbons. Michael Anthony had to domb it down so as to not sound so close as Dusty Hill. I'm thinking very cool. Very respectable.

I remember lynyed skynyrd and montrose and a lot from the seventys. One lasting impression i am left with are some muscians namley singers. Sammy Hagar and Ronnie Van Zandt. Both favorites. Another one Charls Tompson aka Frank Black / Black Fransis. I kind of like this guy a lot also. But Sammy on a clear lucid day if you ask me i would have to say Sammy Hagar. Quite the singer i appreciate. No lying this is what i think.

EVH has a few difficult riffs and an untouchable groove. Joe is a master musician using complex songwriting structures and techniques throughout his entire career.

He’s a decent player. I used to be crazy into him but he just doesn’t do it for me anymore. This tour, in my view, is a mistake but to each his own. Ed and Alex were the Van Halen engine room. People mad it's not really Van Halen, did you notice they didn't even call themselves Van Halen? This is SUPPOSED to be a tribute band, and it's a good one. Just like Credence Clearwater Revisited and the new King Crimson tribute, etc. Were these songs never to be played again? This is good, but doesn't Satriani's guitar tone here sound a bit too processed compared to Eddie's? Too much phaser or chorus or whatever that effect is. When Eddie played you could always hear the clean tone of the guitar underneath the effects, whereas in this video the effects seem to dominate.

With all of the amp modeling available, I would have expected the tones to be near perfect for VH1 songs AND 5150 songs, and everything in between. There's a guy named @TomShreds, his tones are near perfect and his playing is spot on. It would have been pretty easy to get those tones from him. I like Satch, I've seen him a dozen times since the first G3 show. He's great, love his stuff, but I think knowing he was going to be under scrutiny, he missed the mark. And that's unfortunate because he's a great player.
@YoBroMan I hear what you are saying, dude. But what I like about it is that it sounds like Satch and Ed. It's his spin on the King. I'm not sure why Satch would've used any Fractal equipment etc when Ed kept everything simple and went into Valve amps. If Satch had got up there and used amp modelling then somewhere somebody would've said , that's not how Eddie would have done it. I've listened to other uploads, and the Chorus isn't as noticeable.

If he had just said, "We're going out and it's us playing a bunch of stuff...", he would not have created this expectation. I'd rather see/hear Satch play as himself then trying to play/sound like Edward.

I don't know what you guys hear but Joe sounds like he struggles on VH timing and his right rythm hand isn't catching the right feel. He always seems nervous which is so odd for a guy who is so good at his own stuff and his collaborations.

For all the talk about Joe's setup and getting all of the tones, I'm a little disappointed in what I'm hearing.

@@davidnoy3964 True, but you can still hear that it's over processed and too "chorus-y." With all of the amp modeling available, I would have expected the tones to be near perfect for VH1 songs AND 5150 songs, and everything in between. There's a guy named @TomShreds, his tones are near perfect and his playing is spot on. It would have been pretty easy to get those tones from him.
I like Satch, I've seen him a dozen times since the first G3 show. He's great, love his stuff, but I think knowing he was going to be under scrutiny, he missed the mark. And that's unfortunate because he's a great player.

But what I like about it is that it sounds like Satch and Ed. It's his spin on the King. I'm not sure why Satch would've used any Fractal equipment etc when Ed kept everything simple and went into Valve amps. If Satch had got up there and used amp modelling then somewhere somebody would've said , that's not how Eddie would have done it. I've listened to other uploads, and the Chorus isn't as noticeable.
@@davidnoy3964 I agree. plus the whole set is being played a whole step down, so it sounds a little different. I think the mistake was Satch talking about getting the tones and playing the songs. If he had just said, "We're going out and it's us playing a bunch of stuff...", he would not have created this expectation. I'd rather see/hear Satch play as himself then trying to play/sound like Edward.

I don't know what you guys hear but Joe sounds like he struggles on VH timing and his right rythm hand isn't catching the right feel. He always seems nervous which is so odd for a guy who is so good at his own stuff and his collaborations.
Perhaps if you think you are so great, then you play it.
Michael Anthony sounds great. Joe just does not have the tone.
