  • Apparently, coding is more fun than playing.
    (I also forgot to mention it has a minimum radius of 3, also the circuit boards are printable after researching advanced power manipulation)

    It's possible to disable rad storms and other events in the server tab, I usually do that along with powering the SMES in the secrets menu as well

    My personal opinion that it's too weak, in comparsion to area that is consumed. But for TG, where everything is about robust - it's good. Meh.... Anyway. Did shield spawn it's shield blocks under walls, or you can just dismantle a wall to break in?

      it doesnt spawn on closed tiles so basically its stopped by walls but not stuff that exists over a tile like windows or airlocks if that makes sense. So yes you can break thru a wall to get to it but if you place it right itl be hard to find a spot where someone can find an easy wall to get thru.
      And if someone does start deconstructing a wall you can turn the shield generator off and on to cover any uncovered girders since those are not considered closed tiles.
      Its weak but it has potential based on the time you put into strengthening it, i was only using one charger and one well.
      and the smaller the area you cover the easier it is to strengthen its regen
      another thing to know is i intend to add addons to this in the future that can manipulate how the shield works at the cost to its core stats, stuff like making it so you can walk thru it but other people cant.

    So why would I make a shield generator to protect an area when I can just make a bunch of reinforced walls? It’d probably require less time, access, and plasteel. Could take a few more hits from a welder too. It’s cool but I don’t see this being used. What can these do that walls can’t besides being toggleable?

      reinforced walls cost alot more plasteel to defend a large area and you have to replace them if they get destroyed while a forcefield can just be turned back on after a bit.
      Also it is situational but the forcefield can stop even the strongest of meteors as long as you have a decent health pool (200+ health).
      That and a shield generator with high tier parts and like 5 chargers is more than enough to tank a welder and ive built ones that have tanked full clips of a post buff laser gun
      Shield generators actually have double the regeneration rate when set to external only making it stronger for defending things like ai sat.
      they also block lasers so you can use things like tesla coils to defend them from people trying to break in.
      I do want to work on them more to make them more appealing to be used for different things though.

    Do these contain atmospheres like Breach Shields or are they only projectile and item

      they are supposed to let hot temperature through but not gas so they are more like glass windows

    I guess it's fine as a gimmick item but don't really see people using it for anything meaningful because of how impractical it is to actually set-up if you have a short time-frame. It would be a lot better if you could manually control the placement of the shields with some remote but making a circle around a centralized point is pretty meh, especially when one of the counters would just be fireaxing a window or RCDing a wall since the shield won't spawn on an occupied space. I just don't really see the practical purpose of it

      it spawns over windows i made sure of it, this is just the first pr to add it ill do more configurations later.

    It's cool and all, but I wonder how rarely anyone will have mats to build this on TG.
    Ya know, with unupgradable ORM, roboticists refusing to upgrade past their starter fabricators and speedrunning mechs, as well as all departments refusing to allow their techfabs to be upgraded half the time, the random clown building 50 toilets out of whatever mats they got their hands on and so on...

      it mainly just needs plasteel which you can get alot of by deconstructing the countless shutters and blast doors throughout the station (thats why im never out of plasteel)

    Can it be directional instead of a circle around it? If so it'd be more useful.

      directional / a line between two points is planned, the shape of the shield is entirely seperate from all of the other code the only work to do is figuring out how to translate that to a ui that people can configure.
      another idea i had is linking a remote to the machine and then you can activate the remote to mark the tile you are standing on or clicking on to be shielded when the gen comes on, so you just walk, activate, walk activate, walk activate to draw a line and it will only generate a shield on tiles that are within the max radius and marked by the remote
      but before i do any of that i want the base system/functionality to be up to standard and in the game.

    will it work with circuits? like enabling/disabling or changing radius?

      you can already enable and disable using circuits since it has a wire you can attach a signaler to
      In the future i might do usb connection.

      Tg same code but slightly futher ahead. but it is definitely better than fulp admins are far more lenient and not total cunts

    Have you considered coding anything in ss14? It's sort of an empty slate for a lot of things, and needs more creative thinkers 👀
