Hi Luke, thanks for this useful video. I actually use the dpa above the strings to get a more natural sound and air, though I keep it exactly above the bridge as I also do a lot of bowing which sometimes may hit the mic. The position was recommended by an English sound engineer and I use it in a 12-piece contemporary group who play acoustic-folk-impro-contemporary, it sounds great

Much of the issue with miking like this will be bleed from other instruments. The soundboard is large enough to be a great reflector of broadband sound, so isolating the bass to allow gain adjustments without having phase interference can be tricky. I've had some success placing the mic between the feed of the bridge, but pointing towards the neck, with the mic body parallel to the soundboard surface. You can fiddle with how close or distant you are from the soundboard for subtle tonal changes.

Thanks! When i record live jazz band - the bassplayer is often standing next to the drums. So i get a lot of bleed through the DPA. What ive started doing in these casses is to use only one condencer mic on the drum set and just leave the bleed in the bass mic (so i dont try to get rid of the bleed) - then pan the bass a little to the side and the drum mic a little to the other side to get a sterio sound. Maybe that could be usefull for someone recording their live concerts 😊
    Thanks for the video! 🏋🏼‍♀️

Some of the more airy positions do catch a lot more movement and finger noise too. I did like that last one also.

I use an Audix F90, and the position is on the tailpiece side of the bridge. The mic is perhaps one inch from the bridge, with the head of the mic just about level with the strings.

Many thanks. Super useful video. In fact im gonna change my approach to prove a bit. I have a quiestion for everybody: i use a fishmann acoustic guitar amp cause is the only option that i found to send two different signals to the engineer and keep for me the possibilitie to mix the pick up and the mic (dpa4099). What do you think? Any other options around?
