In the middle of the installation, the screen went black for 15 seconds and I had a minor heart attack. But then it showed up and everything worked perfectly! Thanks for sharing this it was really helpful. Cheers!!

For those that have a GPT disk (Basically any modern Windows 10 PC has them) and have the "Erase and Install" option grayed out:
    - Partition 1 GB from the installer and set it as fat32
    - Partition the rest you want to be your Linux work space
    - Select the 1GB fat32 partition: Tick "User Partition" and "Format" and select Boot(/boot/efi)
    - Select the rest as Root / and format it and also "Use partition"
    - I also recommend making a swap partition. Do your own research as to how much you need to allocate. But, for 8GBs of RAM, 16 should be enough.

This comment from Sime is definitely good advice, BUT you actually need only 2/5 of your RAM as swap minimum for hibernation and not 2x like he said, that is a common misconception people have because they think they need more than 1x. But I would recommend going for the 1x of your RAM so you have enough not only for hibernation and to be safe not going for the bare minimum. So for 8GB RAM, it would be 8GB swap, but you could run 4GB if you want to save drive space, let's say your SSD is only 120GB. Do 1x or 1/2x. I recommend 1x though.

Some people are commenting about the update grub not working.
"The update-grub command is simply a stub for running ‘grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg’ to generate grub2 config file."
    Run this instead - sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Like this if it helps so others can see it.

Good basic overview. Wld be good to stress that Windows partition goes first in order.
To dual boot Windows with Linux, you need the following four partitions (five partitions if you keep a recovery partition): Windows, Root, Home, and Swap.
    EFI FAT32 Grub 300mb/512mb
    WINDOWS NTFS 30gb min
    Linux ROOT EXT4
    Following not vital:
SWAP EXT4 (Better for older PCs)
    FREE EXFAT/FAT32
On a UEFI based computer, you must have an EFI system partition that is 512 MB in size. This is where you install the GRUB bootloader when prompted by the Linux installation.

Sadly Kdenlive has issues with the Quadro 5800 in the HP Z600. I was hoping PoP OS’ Nvidia driver might help. Sadly I can’t get Pop to see any other resolution than 640x480 so this isn’t going to be a solution any time soon. But it did mess up my grub and you helped me fix that. Thank you.

I came here after installing Arch alongside Windows 8.1 on my 10 year old machine (it is my primary machine) and I don't like how the Windows bootloader appears before grub because I installed windows after Arch. Now when I do try to boot into arch, I have to go through the windows "metro" bootloader which loads windows completely before even asking you which os you wanna boot into which is fast and convenient if I do want Windows but very slow if I wanted to boot into Arch since it has to reboot to unload the windows files it just loaded and then boot into grub and then load Arch.

This guide is not valid for EFI based systems. For the latter, the creation of a /boot/efi partition is mandatory (you don't create it during the installation) otherwise the installation can't go on. After the installation, the system will automatically boot into POP OS. To enable GRUB (which is not installed by default on POP OS) you have to install it by terminal and go through a brief configuration. I followed a guide on TH-cam by KSK Royal. After it, the classic GRUB window is shown at the system boot, allowing the selection of Pop OS or Windows 10.

I have a UEFI instead of BIOS and this way of installation failed for me. I had to also define boot and swap partition (I also defined home partition but that was probably not necessary). Also be sure to select "UEFI pop os etc." when booting from the flash drive.

Thanks for the great tutorial. This is what I'm looking for after running trouble during installation when my C drive was recognized.

Hi question... I have installed pop, love it...now, Is there a method of removing windows from dual boot and making my dual boot pop the only os? Saving all my current set up for pop?

Thank you man for this tutorial but I have an issue that my laptop has 2 hard drives, 1TB HDD and 256GB SSD and windows 10 is installed in C partition on the SSD, I cant shrink the C partition, and Pop isn't reading the C partition it only reads the two partitions of the HDD, when I tried to shrink the C via external software, Pop also didn't read the unallocated free space from the C partition.
I hope you solve my problem and thank you again.

Most probably your C partition is formatted in NTFS which linux systems cannot use. The unallocated space of the C partition can be formatted in fat32 or exfat to be used by PopOS. Hopefully this helps you

Is it possible to install the two OS on two different drives, but still use a bootloader to be able to quickly select between the two?

Kinda. You can open the bios and change the drive

Why would you? Just go to bios and change to bootable hard disk
