I'd advice anyone against using a non-Windows system dressed up as Windows. Something looking familiar while still operating at least slightly different will frustrate you more than it helps boarding on
I'd instead advise people to think carefully about whether it would help or confuse them. Some folk will be confused, as you suggest; others will find the familiar user interface reassuring. Personally I'm with you on this: I would learn faster with a different interface to constantly remind me it's a different system; but people vary and after 21 years in adult ed I know that what helps some people confuses others. So never assume that what works for you is going to be best for someone else. One of the things that Windows did well at one time was to keep backwards compatibility in most of their user interface upgrades up to around Win 98 or NT. (All the old DOS era keyboard shortcuts still worked, and many still do even now, two decades on)
@@trueriver1950 I don't disagree with your general point, but in practice it is not a binary choice here. If you want the familiarity and know all the Windows shortcuts, probably using Windows is the right choice for you. Nothing wrong with that. If you want to try Linux there are plenty of options on that side too. There are some common ideas and symbolism but some things may also be different in the effort to be potentially better then the alternatives. But using Linux that uses parts of the Windows interface only makes second place in both categories. It may look familiar at first but two settings screens in the options are different nonetheless. It may support some but probably not all shortcuts you already know. It is a compromise in both directions, why I don't think many people will get happy with such a setup
And that's why I'm intending to avoid that for my own attempt to switch. Besides, I've seen some really cool stuff you could never do in Windows that I like, so.
That is an excellent explanation of most Linux desktop themes, which is why I want Linux to look like Linux, and if I want something to look like Windows or macOS, I'll use those.
This reminds me of a website I found that handled logins in a laughably insecure way. All the account logic was handled on the client side, even the password check. That is, it would literally fetch a .txt file from the server, not secured in any way, where the name is the username the user entered, and that file contains all the info from the account, including the password in cleartext.
Linux and windows are two very different operating systems. To someone new to Linux it can be good until there are problems. Most new users don't want to take a deep dive into the inner workings of the OS and they will give up. The mall music in the background was kind of depressing but good video over all :)
The good 'ol fashioned dollar store bandaid analogy. Those bandages that come off after 1 drop of sweat and your skin oils and cells touch the "sticky" part. Then you're walking around with a bandage that's moving around in your sock til you get home or have a good band aid and change it and find that junky bandage and throw it away. Now that's been said, yea, that's really bad OpSec. EDIT: We can make "winbuntu" at home (with expertise and parts [if building it, for the latter]) by making a dual boot machine with Windows 11 and Linux/Ubuntu.
That "company" sounds like a spoiled 12 year old selling this from their parents' basement and the parents being complicit, judging by how they responded. Also, that atrocious spelling.

The presenter of this video thank you for updating us on this! Honestly if you want your operating system for Linux to look like Linux please just use a tutorial here on YT. There are plenty of creators that make videos all about customizing your OS. Also you really shouldn't be paying for access to Linux distros in my opinion I thought that was the point, they aren't about making money from their users. I mean there are some distros that do offer "premium options" and if you want that kind of access thats up to you. But you have to do your research and make sure its not fake or trying to scam you. Lastly I'll add this if you really truly desire a familiar desktop to Windows and don't want to go the customization route just use Linux Mint! Its free and already looks and feels somewhat similar user experience to Windows. But without as far as I'm aware breaking any laws or copyright. Oh its stable and has an active community. Maybe this Wubuntu creator(s) had good intentions but I wouldn't risk it. Just saying...

"Nothing can be less secure than Windows." That might have been true during the 9x days, but Windows NT by contrast was well regarded as a secure and reliable operating system. Once it went mainstream, i.e. XP onward, it naturally became the target of more exploits. But since Vista, the user model has been changed to run in a much more secure fashion. And I think 10 onward runs things in sandboxes that make it almost impossible for most software to touch the guts these days. I think it's pretty telling there hasn't been a major new virus/worm that we've heard about for years now.
Great Video! I think it might be wise to avoid this distro. Just noticed that the default user icon in settings looks similar to one of the user icons from XP.
I've used Linux, and I've used Windows. Trying to combine the two into a single system basically never works very well. Sure, it's convenient to be able to run the occasional Windows program on Linux or vice-versa, but nowadays, everything is either in a web browser, has alternatives, or is available as a universal binary (by some definition), so there isn't really a need to try to make these "combination systems" outside of a gimmick or maybe if you're just diehard against whatever your school/etc is using and want to stick to your own guns, but even that isn't a very strong argument. I'm sure they have their place for some, but yeesh! Wubuntu/LinuxFX just took it to a new low.

And to be honest, the custom applications and website design aren’t half bad, assuming they aren’t stolen. Especially for someone who’s probably a kid. However, the database and activation systems are a problem that makes it so that I can’t excuse this OS. It seems like a desperate attempt to use genuine tech skills in order to scam people for money more than anything else

@@benjbkIndeed, I think modern nVidia chips still support Glide, even if the only game I know that does in UT'99.
@@SimonJ57What? Glide was never supported by any Nvidia chip. You were surely using a Glide wrapper, and it works on any GPU.
@@benjbk 3dfx hasn't functioned as a company in more than 20 years. I highly doubt nVidia has been able to keep the trademarks in good standing for that long without any sort of product behind them.
Thank you for covering the dark past behind this operating system. Linux Mint (or any other beginner friendly distro) is a way better option for any Windows users switching to Linux. The fact they sell 30$ keys for something you wouldn't need on other Linux distros is absolutely unacceptable.
Microsoft should definitely sue them for all the "professional" keys they have sold.
It was probably Microsoft that set up Wububtu LMAO
@@The88shrimp I have the same suspicion. MS sees that their shares go down and that more and more people are switching over to Linux and here they come with a way of monetizing Linux, too. Always the parasites in suits ruining everything, soon we will not even be allowed to breathe unless we're connected to their bank accounts 24/7

Besides, I've seen some really cool stuff you could never do in Windows that I like, so.
wouldnt be surprised to see if they put their own spyware in it. very windows themed!

Hopefully it wasn't anything important and didn't store any sensitive information? I swear if this was a bank...
Linux and windows are two very different operating systems. To someone new to Linux it can be good until there are problems. Most new users don't want to take a deep dive into the inner workings of the OS and they will give up.
The mall music in the background was kind of depressing but good video over all :)
At least you can fix them in Linux. When there is a problem with windows, it's reinstall time.
I didn't even notice there was any music
Dude. Awesome video. I was about ot install this to check it out. Your video saved me some valuable time!

Thank you for the insight of this broken distro, I have not tried it yet but something tells me that SteamOS would probably be a better bet for trying a lot of Windblows programs on Linux (I'm now going off to try this idea)
21:42 This is actually in Windows 11, Alt-F4 on the desktop with nothing open will summon this menu to the screen on an official Windows Machine
This smells like the biggest scam/con I've ever seen. If anyone actually uses this and thinks this is legit. I pray for you. If your new to Linux please don't download or fall for this. I was so just disgusted watching this whole video because this operating system and whoever created it to me in my opinion looks like they want to steal user info or something.
Great video. Wubuntu is bizarre... It reminds me of the whole "Windows 12" fiasco from a few years ago. At least "Windows 12" didn't store people's sensitive data in an insecure database though, lol
That "Amount" field on the payment form is a huge red flag and would automatically make me think this was a scam. Regardless of whether it's laziness or incompetence, that's extremely unprofessional.

Solution:
Use Windows 11 for a Windows 11 themed OS
they hid the KDE system settings application (which is way better than their own UI), but you can still access it by running (from the terminal) systemsettings or systemsettings5. also, none of the themes used here are custom, they're all different community themes that are just bundled with this garbage

You laugh until you do the math. 20,000 copies sold at $35/copy means he's made $700,000 off of this project. For a joke, that's some serious earnings.
Good to know. Canonical and Microsoft will add a few zeros to that in the lawsuit.
Imagine going through the trouble of "making" an OS just to literally put all your customer's information on a public web server.
He basically just made a website with people's information and brushed it off.
I just don't get why it had to be a publicly accessible SQL server. Even PHP with simple post requests would have been a better solution.
If you take a closer look, the OS feels strange anyway. They have the knowledge to make a UI for their stuff, but then fail to make a PHP/XML parser as a simple API?
Charging for Linux is totally against the GPL2-3 and the Microsoft license (in this case). What is the point when you can download Windows directly from Microsoft and ALL windows apps will work? Why on Earth would you use a Linux OS that tries to be Windows? 😂🤣 Why?
Should I get Wubuntu or UwUntu? I'm torn between the two right now.
I would go for Manjaro.

I was about to go nerd on you and tell you that he already made a video on UwUntu but then I realized that's not what you're talking about
I've used Linux, and I've used Windows.
Spyware and security holes? They really went all out to recreate the authentic Windows experience :D
25:56 : "So if all the developer was using this thing for was to get donations, then why not set it up that way from the beginning?"

I really admire their dedication to the bit, the only thing that is missing for me is the watermark in the corner that shows above everything else.
Wouldn't seriously consider such anyways, as it feels like a fly by night distro.
Everybody is trying to put out a Windows "look and feel" Linux O/S. There are plenty of Desktop Environments out there to try. Windows still has over 70% of the market share on desktop and laptop OSs. Linux has 3% of the market share. This us why everyone wants to make a Linux that a windows user would feel at home in. Everyone knows windows.
