Man damian is legit my fav singer ever since i heard his "into the black hole" from star one live album bro my mans got a very unique voice its so easily recognized
Arjen did 2 live shows, the first one was “Ayreon Universe - best of Ayreon” and the second one about 2 years later “The Electric Castle and other Tales”. Both shows are great, and you will find a lot of songs from both shows on TH-cam. Given that Ayreon universe contains some songs from the Electric Castle, you will find 2 different live versions of these songs mostly with different vocalists. This includes the Castle Hall. Despite not liking to perform live, Arjen plays one of the main characters in the second show (he plays the hippie). In Ayreon Universe, Arjen only makes a small appearance playing guitar. What is interesting in the second show is that Arjen managed to gather almost all vocalists that originally participated in the recording of the Electric Castle 20 years ago.
This has become my favourite of the Universe Live Concert. Arjen is there, Damian is there being brilliant as usual, Robert is bringing in a low voice, you rarely hear in Metal and Jeroen is superb on the flute in this. Everyone is so happy and having fun - Just Love It! Everyone on stage is so talented
A really intelligent composer. That is exactly right. All those layers, the combination with those vocals. Those harmonies.... The way this song gets the audience involved right away.... I saw this tonight and immediately bought the DVD online. Some productions you just must have. Need I say more?
they already sang this song together in 2003 at a star one concert, the same one you reacted to russel allen's dawn of a million souls. You would be shocked if you took a look at this show in its entirety.
I've always looked forward to a Robert Soeterboek appearance since first seeing him in the Star One live concert video. Such a unique deep voice. And of course Damian is one of my all-time faves. I could list every detail of this performance as a favorite thing here. Since you love the gals of the chorus, please check out Marcela's performance of her "Stream of Passion" (a non-Ayreon, Arjen/Marcela creation) song, "Out in the Real World" from this concert.
This is a great version of the song, but my favorite is the acoustic version sung by Irene Jansen in 2004 I guess. I think that version is pretty rare and sadly there is no video of it as far as I know, but I received it from subscribing to the Ayreon newsletter some years ago!
Great reaction, as always. From the same show i would recommend "The Two Gates". Besides being (another) great song, Irene Jansen introduces the band in a lovely way.
Hey Charlie, really like your reactions/analysis of Ayreon. Been subscribed to your channel for a while now, but dont comment that much. In this I heard you talk about Arjen always choosing the right singer for the role. On one album he has done this especially imo. The album Human Equation, is a Universe sub-story that follows a man in a coma after a car accident. The story plays in 2 worlds. 1.) His wife and best-friend in the hospital beside his bed. 2.) Him, in his own mind, struggling with his emotions. The emotions a played by one singer each. This album has been preformed, as a musical-theater show, with most of the original singers. (if you like, here is the playlist th-cam.com/play/PLRPhKLgNffpwY267Kw2NOx5pBMVV7L6iJ.html )
Mike Mills is doing a perfect impression of John de Lancie, who narrated for the Electric Castle Live concert. Don't know if you've got to the latest Aryeon stuff from the Transitus album, (I haven't had much time to surf your Twitch streams) but the narrator there is Tom Baker of Dr. Who fame.
doesn't he though? I have both concerts and it takes a while to realize what version is playing on Spotify when I hear the narration . . .most of the way through . . "Hey, that ain't Q! This is Universe, not Electric Castle Live." John De Lancie was there for the Electric Castle Live show.
Not quite, the narration on the original album was done by Peter Daltrey. Then for the Ayreon Universe live shows, Mike Mills was the narrator. It was John de Lancie for Into the Electric Castle Live, where they also changed a lot of the lines to improve the narrative.

There is also a studio recording of that song with Damian instead of Bruce Dickinson. It's in the For Ayreonauts Only rarities compilation.
That wasn't Damien. That was Tommy Karevik in the concert.
@@yippeethreeeight in this concert yes but in star one concert it was damian with floor and irene
Damien Wilson has a wonderful voice

This by the way is NOT the opening song of the album, it is actually the 10th song (3rd song on the second disc)

Damian Wilson had a big career in musical theatre. He played Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLE on the West End.
The Background singers are Marcela Bovio, Irene Jansen and Lisette van den Berg :) There is no Simone ;)

Isis and Osiris, Garden of Emotions!
Just amazing, such cool voices ^^
There’s also the version from The electric castle live and other tales. And it’s a bit different.

I personally appreciate a lot the version with Stream of Passion - Marcela, Damian, Arjen & Lori :)
Great reaction, as always. From the same show i would recommend "The Two Gates". Besides being (another) great song, Irene Jansen introduces the band in a lovely way.
As it is Christmas I would highly recommend reacting to Sissel Kyrkjebø doing her rendition of O Helga Natt
You enjoyed Mike in Day Sixteen: Loser. It would be cool to see you react to his performance in the Theater Equation (same song).

Totally right! The Theater Equation is a fantastic live performance of an amazing album.
Love your react to Ayreon vids! I'd love to see you react to the song 'Talk of the town'! It's so fun and I love that it features a hurdy-gurdy!

This concert happened before Electric Castle Live.
Mike is awesome.

He sounds exactly like him.
