Amazing Flight was recorded at last year’s spectacular live performance of the third Ayreon album ‘Into The Electric Castle’. Over four nights at Tilburg’s 013 venue (the scene of Lucassen’s Ayreon Universe series of live shows in 2017) Lucassen, his band and one of modern progressive music’s most emphatic of casts celebrated the 20th anniversary of ‘Into the Electric Castle’ in front of 12,000 adoring fans from 64 different countries who had flown in from around the world.

Dear Arjen, I must sincerely make my apologize to you. I worked in the Dutch music industry ( most of the time as a sound engineer in Hilversum) for 30 years and totally missed you. How can that be???? I am shocked. It feels like I threw my life away. Always in jazz music....Fortunately I discovered ( and I was in total shock) Floor Jansen and Nightwish half a year ago ( can you imagine, I am 67). They blew half my head away. And via them and TH-cam they got me on track towards you!!! And you blew the remainders of my head away. What have I missed.... Fortunately today I was able to purchase tickets for the upcoming Tilburg event!!! How lucky I am. Are you aware that by giving so much joy via your music you are bringing tons of health to people? These days I shed so many tears of pure joy listening. And that can only be healthy! Five Arjen songs a day keeps the doctors away 🎉. Thank you for your exsistance.

John De Lancie was totally killing it as the Forever, he looked like he was having a blast! And what's that hippy doing on stage? Did he get lost?

He screwed most of this lines, at first i didnt like, but some others he did a great job!
@@rcmartins He didn't flub his lines. The lines were intentionally different (written in part by De Lancie himself) from the album in order to make for a more coherent narrative. Arjen agreed. In the DVD extras Arjen mentions that people go in expecting it to be identical to the original album, so any tweaking of the narrative must be done with care and it must be done well. I think they achieved that. I especially liked what they did with the Egyptian and Futureman. They couldn't have done that if they'd kept strictly to album script.
@@rcmartins They weren't 'screwed', Arjen and De Lancie made a lot of alterations to the narration, for the purposes of performing it onstage. And, y'know, it's been a long time since the album was released. I think it didn't really hurt it at all.
Oh dear Arjen, I’m in tears! I have just traveled through time and remembered myself when I was a 16 year old teenager who got into his first Ayreon record (Into The Electric Castle) . How my mind got blown after playing just a few songs. This just brings up all those emotions again. What a pleasure to be alive and to be able to enjoy your work and talent.

Thijs van Leer is a Dutch national treasure. Amazing how much talent is in the Netherlands, and amazing how Arjen has cultivated and promoted it so well internationally with his amazing flights of music! Does the King of the Netherlands grant knighthoods like the queen in England? Because it seems to me Arjen deserves one! (Speaking of Dutch treasures, please another album with Edward Reekers. Please!)
Yes, he does. It's called "Ridder in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau". Thijs van Leer actually is one such knight.
I was in Amsterdam 5 years ago wandering into Concerto Records for the first time, and who did I happen to stumble onto actually having a CD?! Carice van Houten, otherwise known as Lady Melisandre from Game of Thrones. What's to say that Arjen offers her a job in the future? 😉

@@signprovideo One of the great gifts Arjen gives Ayreon/SO fans is bringing all these different artists together - TvL is only the latest guy who I've run across on one of Arjen's projects and said "Huh, he seems pretty good, wonder who he is?"...then do a search and finds out "that guy" is actually a legend in the genre who I just never ran across before. Its a really neat way to get exposed to new music and expand one's horizons.
I listen to a lot of music, and I've been playing for over 25 years. This is the only thing that can literally still bring tears to my eyes..... And I had no idea Isaac Asimov could play the flute!

This song brings me tears of joy whenever I listen to it. Arjen playing the hippie is so pure. The dichotomy between the hippie and the barbarian is a lot of fun, and all the instrumentation is so groovy. I love it so much.

Ayreon is great pandemic music
Arjen and Joost have a remarkable talent for bringing people at the top of their game together. For a semi-randomly-assembled set of people this is a remarkably together performance. I don't know how much rehearsal there was, but with so many people it must have been limited. Full marks to everyone involved. (So many people in this whole show - 35?)

A little disappointed that this appears to be an abridged version but otherwise an incredible performance!
For me the high point of this performance is Thijs van Leer . I first saw him ( and Focus ) live around 50 years ago and he was easily one of the most innovative musicians of his generation ( and there were A LOT of innovative musicians in the 70s ) - still a genius at 70 !
That's THE concert I need! Come to Brazil please
Oof. That first lead hurts my ears and it sounds like he tried to come in too early at 1:15. Other than that, a most excellent performance and I'm looking forward to my earbook arriving sometime next year after it gets through all of the Covid19 customs decontamination checkpoints.

Hah, so It wasn't just me, most of the fills are amazing, but the bending parts totally do not work for me and sound like they land off key. Heard it during the show and on the bluray too, been playing it over and over again. But stil a great performance overall.

Was that John De Lancie at the start? How big is Arjen's black book to call people from?
It was. Arjen thought that The Forever are somewhat close to Q anyway and contacted him. John's assistent said to him: "There is this dutch guy asking if you want to be involved in some rock musical, should I say no?" John asked them why they would decline outright, looked Arjen up, saw that the project is a real thing and the rest is history. He prepared for a year and adjusted bits and pieces to make his role better suited for the stage. John did a brilliant job, in my opinion.

That is Thijs van Leer, he became famous with the progresive band Focus, in the begining of the '70's, at about the same time as Jethro Tull

I was at this show, and the guitarist (Marcel Singor) absolutely blew me away... really elevated the guitar parts of the original album (which I already love). Just amazing feel in his playing.
