The first time I heard that song was at home 6 years ago....in that day I had been fired from my Job and was super worried about my future, but her voice made me feel calm, protected, blessed. Thank you
Hear, smith of the heavens, what the poet asks. May softly come unto me thy mercy. So I call on thee, for thou hast created me. I am thy slave, thou art my Lord. God, I call on thee to heal me. Remember me, mild one,[1] Most we need thee. Drive out, O king of suns, generous and great, human every sorrow from the city of the heart. Watch over me, mild one, Most we need thee, truly every moment in the world of men. send us, son of the virgin, good causes, all aid is from thee, in my heart.
Jeg forstår hvad der synges. Jeg er dansk, men alligevel forstår jeg et bid af, hvad der synges, fordi islandsk er næsten det samme sprog, der blev brugt i vikingetiden. (I understand what is being sung. I am Danish, but still I understand a bit of what is sung, because Icelandic is almost the same language used in the Viking Age.)
I already loved this song to begin with, but then to hear her sing it is another thing altogether. She has that voice that just seems like an ancient lost voice. This hymn being so ancient itself along with her voice especially around 2:15, kills me.
No one sings this beautiful song like Eivør. Such an angelic voice... I get goosebumps over and over when I listen to it, and the very high note moves me to tears... Thank you!
The text, in 12th century Icelandic (first three stanzas); 19th century Icelandic (second three); and English (last three). Heyr himna smiðr hvers skáldit biðr; komi mjúk til mín miskunnin þín. Því heitk á þik þú hefr skaptan mik; ek em þrællinn þinn, þú est dróttinn minn. Goð, heitk á þig at græðir mik; minzk mildingr mín, mest þurfum þín; ryð þú rǫðla gramr, ríklyndr ok framr, hǫlds hverri sorg ór hjarta borg. Hear, smith of the heavens, what the poet asks. May softly come unto me thy mercy. So I call on thee, for thou hast created me. I am thy slave, thou art my Lord. God, I call on thee to heal me. Remember me, mild one,[1] Most we need thee. Какая великолепная певица и чудесная музыка. Это завораживающее видео вдохновляет изучать исландские песни. Спасибо Вам ! Добра, красоты и долгих лет жизни !
I have never heard such beauty in a voice that I thought only could be heard in the Heavens. She gave me chills and tears listening to her sing words I have never heard yet I didn't need to understand them as I felt it's meaning in her voice. I am so glad that I was lucky enough to stumble upon her video as I was searching for something that would fill my soul with light. She has done that and her songs will always be a part of my life.
I am portuguese and I love it. Eivør is my angel musician. Thanks for all powerful, the voice it's the best instrument. Beautiful at all. Ivo fr Madeira island.
honestly could have just listened to her alone singing this with that amazingly otherworldly voice. The instruments and other singers truly lessoned the performance. She sounds like an actual angelic being.
Great singer, no doubt. Absolutely nailed it. Am I alone in thinking this song is made for a chamber/choir though? Doesn't hit the same with a soloist as it does with a full choir. Needs those bass and tenors to really hit the feels.

This is not the voice of a mere mortal. This is the voice of the Goddess Freyja herself! The pride of the Faroe Islands. Kiitos!
so lovely!
Det har du helt ret i. Denne stemme er Frejas. Ikke mindre.

you dont have to understand the words.....music is universal...this is the oldest hymn in icelandic hymn collection

I don’t know what she is saying but with a voice like that she can be cussing me out and I would still want more.
Surely one of the most beautiful songs ever written? And with Eivor's sublime voice, is this the most perfect combination?
Beautiful and talented woman singing incredible icelandic traditional song. I love Iceland !
This deserves more likes like come on ppl she’s a freakin angel

God Damn Eivör's high note at 3:10 made all my hair stand on end and then disintegrate into thin air. She is so magical.
so overdone. doesnt fit the song.

All of this ridiculous production (kids? really? bells? why?!) was hugely eclipsed by a bunch of guys at a train station.
This is high class art
I believe this is a Christmas concert broadcast in the Faroe Islands and Iceland. This song is basically their Silent Night.
really
@@Sargonidas and the boys at the train stations is not?
