Luckily, I have the official component that I also run through the retrotink 5x, and if these cables are anything similar, I can attest that these two items (the cables and the 5x) are GORGEOUS together. If I didn't already have the official cables, I think these would be what I'd get.
I know this is a couple of years late. If you are using a RetroTink 5x through an Elgato capture device (or anything else for that matter) and it drops during resolution changes then try pulling up the settings in RetroTink and go to HDMI options. Set V-Sync to Triple Buffer. It adds a small amount of lag but the benefit is that now you won't get that drop. I got the component cables being reviewed here specifically so I could run it into the RetroTink.
Just picked up a set on Amazon. Very happy with them for $60. I'm running them into my OSSC. I compared these to my friends O.E. Nintendo cables he's had since he was a kid, and they're pretty close. The Retro-bit cables seem just a touch darker? If I hadn't compared side by side I wouldn't have noticed. I don't have an Insurrection set to compare to.
I would've picked a set up, but by the time preorders started, I'd already put the GCHD on my Christmas wish list, and I ended up getting it, as well as HD Retrovision Wii component cables and the RetroTINK 5X. Too little, too late for me to get my hands on those cables (except maybe for research).
Retro-bit did not make a huge announcement with these, but they did actually announce them before Christmas of last year. That being said, you already have a great solution
Thanks! I was doing a lot of those, but as I was saying to someone else earlier today, there really hasn't been anything new on th ebudget clone scene in 2+ years
Hey loved the vid thanks for going so in depth. My question is if you think the Wii with component connection is better than GameCube with these cables?
I noticed in the official comparison video that the picture quality of these component cables seemed much darker and a little red shifted from the standard av out. Any comments on this?
I don't have the originals to compare to, and you see the results for yourself in these videos. Videos. I will say I didn't see anything that I thought looked off or that was visually unappealing, but that doesn't mean that it may not be as accurate as the originals. As I say, I have no experience with the original OEM Nintendo cables, I've never owned them. I think these do a pretty good job
I'd love to see a follow up showing side by side for the cables going straight to the TV, through the 5x, and finally comparing it to the prism going into your TV. It's hard to compete against the 5x.
No good way to capture going straight into the TV, this is why I showed the 240P and 480P Footage from the RetroTink 5x, which basically recreates this. And stay tuned....
I know I’m a few months late here, but how does the component cables compare to the Retro HDMI adapter? Is one better than another? Also curious, I see people talking about the Retrotink all the time. What does the Retrotink do on top of the component cables? I know you talked about it a little in the video but I’m still slightly confused. I just want to be able to play my GameCube and Wii games on my 4k tv without them being too jaggy.
You can go from the component video cables into something like a retro tink 5x which will actually give you a cleaner picture and better overall looks. But you're looking at almost a $400 solution to do that. For most people the HDMI dongles are going to be good enough, and they're really quite good
another review said that the audio trips a bit after a while.. did you experience that? they said that the solution was just to use a separate av cable to replace the 2 inputs that the component had. ?!
I have had to do this, use both sets of cables. For some reason, it will work at times, and other times it will not. I got tired of resetting it until it worked and just went with both sets of cables.
Great Video what I really wanted to see is the quality on a Sony Triniton CRT or a PVM. My set up is the hdmi alliexpress adapter to the m classic to a PC CRT and it looks great! Also to record gameplay I use the same set up for 130 USD but I want to get these cables to connect to my gamecube kiosk CRT TV input through component cables and then output through the crt TV AV output to a Retrotink 2x mini to stream/record while playing in component crt TV. Hahaha hopefully I explain myself! Thanks and have a great day.
I bought one to replace my Carby Component cause 360p GBI didnt work on that to use with RT5x. But after some testing and comparison, its definitely softer and less vibrant than Carby Component. Guess i'll be keeping both and only using this one for GBI :(
So, if I understand correctly, a lot of the PAL versions of the Gamecube could get component output from both the analogue multi-out AND from the digital out port, with the right cable?

Hello! So my eyes are crossed after all the research I've done. Here's is my question. I'm mainly trying to play all my old star wars GameCube games. I have a 1080p HD tv ( it has HDMI and component inputs in back). Do I go with a prism HDMI adapter? If I go with the prism component cables will I still need a retrotink to improve image quality? If so is a retrotink 5x necessary or will a 2x do? I mainly want to get the visual quality I remember having on GameCube. Plugging it into an HD TV with an analog converter has made the image choppy and muddy and a complete mess. Any help appreciated thanks!
Hello, I've recently been playing around with my Gamecube graphics on multiple different TVs. The thing that I found that helped the most, was getting a TV from Goodwill thats max output was 720p resolution. I went from playing Gamecube on a 1080p tv to my new 720p and the graphics looked way better on the lower resolution tv. I only payed 8$ for the 720p at Goodwill, they are very easy to find. Everyone wants 4k TVs nowadays, so these older resolution TVs are easy to find for cheap! Hope this helps you
Question, probably a dumb question but if I don't have a RetroTink, what's the resolution that these cables can get u? I have an HDTV LCD TV with Component and also 2 CRTs with Component hookups.
I’m getting some sort of interference when plugging into the retrotink 5x when upscaled to 1080p fill, any idea or maybe setting change to fix it, it like lines going horizontally on the black and mains part of the screen, you can’t really see them to bad on the main area but it’s bad in the other. This is using the ones your testing on the video.
@@RoXolid Thanks for the reply, although it's not stated that it supports 240p, it would really surprise me if it didn't. Regardless, I will still be purchasing this. :)
GameCube over composite on a crt is terrible and the official component cables were never in the cards. So when they released the Carby I pulled the trigger on that. Metal Gear, Star Wars and Luigi’s Mansion look new over HDMi on my Samsung led TV. I’m glad so many people and companies keep bringing us new ways to play our games. And for informants on TH-cam 👍

I have the same issue with the Nintendo branded component cables. Not sure what crt you are using, but mine is a flatscreen jvc. Leaving the prog. scan mode off the pic is fine. Turning it on causes dual images. From what I have read online most flatscreen crt's do not like 480p. 480i no problem. It works fine on my curved crt though. This tv also does not work with lightgun games.. ps2, saturn, ps1.
@@jeremyrobertson9718 ah yes . You nailed it. I do have a flat-screen crt, and 480i did the trick just had to go through Swiss to change it. There was no other way to change it. Would of been nice if they would have made 480i to start at least for the componet cables I understand the hdmi version. Because then I could have least seen the screen better to change it.
