SYLOSIS recently announced Dormant Heart as the title of their fourth studio album but despite the name, it’s not a peaceful album: It’s about a powerful force unleashing anger against everyday injustice and a sleeping society that lets these things wash over them.
Commenting on the track front man Josh states: "Mercy is the first single off the new album. It's got a pretty dark and heavy vibe to it but it's one of the most melodic tracks on the album at the same time. It's got a big slow, doomy outro with an octave pedal on the guitars so that's going to rumble some guts live.
For this video, we wanted to keep it dark and claustrophobic. It's got some of the artwork from the album and inlay illustrated as well which came together really well."
The band have also revealed the artwork for Dormant Heart, which can be seen below. The artwork was created by Bristol based artist BONFIRE (Opeth, Satyricon, Kataonia), who has previously designed some t-shirts for the band. On the theme of the artwork, Josh comments: "The cover relates to sacrifice (the sacrificial lamb is more of a symbol than something to be taken literally) but also the looming, oppressing figure in the background represents corruption and being forced into something against your will."
Pre-orders for the new album are now live - see below for the various formats available via the label and band:
Speaking about the album front man Josh states: “It's the most pissed-off, aggressive and intense album we've done, yet it still retains the epic, progressive and melodic side we're also known for. It's a very gloomy and atmospheric album. We've been through a lot as a band and individuals and we've made our darkest album to date.
“The title refers to people going through life on autopilot and being one of the herd, how a lot of people simply accept the way things are just because it's 'tradition' as opposed to taking a good look at the world around you and thinking for yourself. Sometimes there are catalysts that happen and change our perspective or consciousness.”
The album was produced by Middleton with the help of engineer Scott Atkins and was mastered by TesseracT guitarist Acle Kahney.
SYLOSIS began tracking the new album back in March 2014, working away secretly alongside touring commitments. Drum tracks were recorded in May at Monkey Puzzle Studios by original drummer Rob Callard, who parted ways with the band last month due to time restraints. After filling in for some live shows during SYLOSIS’ Spring 2014 tour, BLEED FROM WITHIN’s drummer Ali Richardson is now a permanent member of the band.

They don't downtune because it would be so heavy it would break the fabric of reality. I think playing in E is part of what makes them so good. It just sounds great and refreshing

Craig Ball As a musician, I very much appreciate when bands can combine melodies, percussion, and different sounds/instruments in order to create beautiful music. that being said, MOST (not all) guitar solos are simply sporadic melody over a rhythm section that has already been repeated in the song. In metal, solos are rarely original or unique in any way. if you disagree that's fine, let's not get nasty. i know how shitty the metal community generally is.

Yet Middleton does shit on guitar that not even Dimebag was doing, plus not to mention playing at his skill level and singing at the same time.

Sylosis I think is one of the best relatively new bands that I feel are in the new new wave of American heavy metal that are representing the best elements of metal right now. I appreciate bands like deafheaven that are experimenting but if people ask me what metal bands out now I see that are "spokesmen," if you will, of newer bands where the heavy scene is going I'll usually mention bands like sylosis and revocation. I know there are others but I'm blanking on my list. I think these bands are like up and coming "Lamb of Gods" of metal, bands that are heavy and scream, but have an appealing sound.

      *****
what i love about revocation is they seemingly mix the best elements from may different styles. you get technical thrash, you get the more melodic metallica style thrash, some songs are just lamb of godish rocking, you get the fast blastbeats of death and remnants of black metal thrown in. they're the best combination without getting some of the i don't necessarily like about black and death metal. i love bands like cannibal corpse and emperor but they're so hard to listen to all the time because they're just unrelenting. i feel like i can breath with revocation and still have a good

Yeah man. The guy already said but they are from Reading in England. Not sure what year they started but they have actually been going for a long time. Something LIKE 15 years. Its when Josh Middleton finally sat in the drivers seat that they got phenomenal. Although I still love their older albums with Jamie Grahams influence and the other vocalist (can't remember his name).

    Fall from the darkness
    and swallow a choking breath
    winds howl and scream
    and tear the scorched earth
    Scatter the ashes
    lower the casket
    forever in turmoil
    buried beneath the broken soil
    Cast me into desolation
    I'll find my path again
    torn into pieces
yet each step guides me back
    the fires are built
and promise a change that will be repaid
there was no mercy for you or I
so the earth will be set ablaze
    Blood for blood
    surrender or don't
but forgiveness is a lie to behold
    Submission
relinquish all your fears and give in
the pain floods in as you inhale
    Submission
    relinquish all your hurt
and begin to denounce this cruel world
When the sound of the burning fires awake you
    stir and come to
smoke fills the sky and clouds
    and coves the frozen moon
sever the growing distance between us
    and guide me to align
worlds apart yet I fell the pulse
    like a severed vein
    blood for blood
    surrender or don't
but forgiveness is a myth to behold
    No atonement
    or sins to be absolved
    There is no redemption

    Lyrics
Enamórate de la oscuridad, por eso quieres volver
Fall for the darkness, that's why you want to get back
Sangra hasta el cielo, por dentro hay un corazón abrasador
Bleed to the sky, inside's a scorching heart
Esparcir las cenizas, bajar el ataúd
Scatter the ashes, lower the casket
Siempre en confusión, llamando al dolor roto
Forever in turmoil, beckoning the broken sorrow
Echame a la desolación, encontraré el camino hacia Dios.
Cast me into desolation, I'll find the path to God.
Desgarrado en pedazos, el problema me corta
Torn into pieces the issue cuts me back
Un grito que sería una promesa de perseguirlos será recompensado
A cry that would be a promise to chase them will be repaid
No hubo piedad por tus piadosas mentiras
There was no mercy for your white lies
Así que los jóvenes probablemente canten tu alabanza.
So the young probably sing your praise.
Sangre por sangre, ríndete o no
Blood for blood, surrender or don't
Pero el perdón es una mentira para empezar
But forgiveness is a lie to begin
Así que decide, abandona todos tus miedos
So decide, relinquish all your fears
Bueno (nosotros) cedemos ... la sangre te sale
Well(We) give in... blood pulsing out you
Así que decide, renuncia a todo tu odio
So decide, relinquish all your hate
Empezamos a denunciar este mundo cruel
We begin to denounce this cruel world
Tu residencia en los fuegos ardientes te despertará
Your reside in the burning fires will wake you
Entonces somos capturados, la nieve se siente como cielo y nubes
So we're captured, snow feels like sky and clouds
A través de un mapa congelado
    Across a frozen map
Entonces todos los políticos nos traicionaron y consiguieron que me alineara
So all the politicians betrayed us and got me to align
Este mundo es un bolsillo lleno de parálisis que puedo apoyar amigo
This world is a pocket of filled up palsy I can support friend
Sangre por sangre, ríndete o no
Blood for blood, surrender or don't
Pero el perdón es un mito para empezar
But forgiveness is a myth to begin
Así que decide, abandona todos tus miedos
So decide, relinquish all your fears
Bueno (nosotros) cedemos ... la sangre te sale
Well(We) give in... blood pulsing out you
Así que decide, renuncia a todo tu odio
So decide, relinquish all your hate
Empezamos a denunciar este mundo cruel
We begin to denounce this cruel world
Sin expiación ni señales de ser absuelto
No atonement or signs to be absolved
¡No hay redención en esta vida!
There is no redemption within this life!
