Me wanting the Gen 4 18v and Gen 3 12v even though I know my Gen 3 and Gen 2 are more than adequate for my uses.
I can understand that feeling!

Nice compilation of all the impacts, especially for someone new to the line. I just upgraded my Gen 1 M12 impact and hammer drill to Gen 3. I’m impressed with the size reduction and power bump. Plus, the drill went back to the mechanical clutch. I have the installation driver for smaller stuff.
It was a nice upgrade from Gen 2 to Gen 3.. so I imagine gen 1 to 3 would be pretty noticeable as well.
I have the m12 gen 2 impact and it’s a beast even though it’s last against all these it’s still very impressive for weight and performance.
Yeah there isn’t a truly bad impact here. And even though I don’t have the brushed models anymore the M18 isn’t a bad impact
My Gen 2 is my most used. I only really ever bring out the M18s for building fences or decks.
M12 surge is very good for small works, tiny and silent.
I'll always say this. Milwaukee puts more effort into their budget tools than Dewalt or Makita. From what I've seen, most of the time you need to buy a non professional brand if you want decent entry level tools at a good price. Milwaukee gives you a good value on their budget tools, while offering a great platform to upgrade from!
Fair point. Their entry level still feels like a premium too just offers less performance.
@@TinkerWithTools that and the rubber overmold feels cheaper on the lower end models.
Makita xdt13z is a fantastic entry level impact. I use it professionally
Dcf809 is terrible but the 840 is great and cheap. Usually $99 with a 2 ah
@@UnbeatenPath1 dude that 840 is a freaking unicorn. They sold it as an entry level, but it's way better than most entry levels.
I still have the 2656 and it’s a great impact driver. Has excellent trigger control, even though it’s lacking in power compared to the other M18 models.
I had it for a few years but gifted it to someone who was starting in the trades and didn’t have any M18. I had the M18 surge at the time and shortly after got the fuel but it was impressive for what it was.
The one key feature is really nice, my impact driver doesn’t have it, but my 1/2 high torque, 3/4 high torque, and 1 inch all have it. The biggest reason I wanted it, if the tool ever walks off by itself, you open up the app and it will tell you where it’s at. On my big high torques, you can set lower power levels which is super useful when you want to get close with an impact and then do a final torque with a torque wrench.
Yeah I have similar features on a few other brands and while I don’t end up using it a ton I think the tech to be be able to fine tune the tool for repetitive tasks is pretty awesome.
Thank you for this video, I was confused of the many versions out there. If you don’t mind, can you do the same for Milwaukee’s Impact Wrenches?
I don’t currently own any impact wrenches form them. But if I get around to it I’ll try to offer some insight.
The 3650 is my go to impact now. Much prefer it even over gen 4 fuel.
It’s impressive how small and compact it is.
What are the numbers when you put the forge battery on the older model m18 drivers?
The impact drivers in general don’t see as big of a bump from more premium batteries as a drill or a saw does. I have run them and they do run a little bit but then they also run a little better on a 6ah HO. But it’s not a significant jump in my opinion.
I have only owned m18 drill and impact driver that was about 12 years ago. I love my dewalt tools so I have most of what I need. But I got the m18 1/2 router kit. And today I picked up the 3692-22ct I bought it because of how compact the drill is. And a free tool is included. I'm looking forward to using it.
Jealous of the router. I’ve been thinking about picking it up.
@@TinkerWithTools It's a awesome tool expensive but worth it.
I used my new drill and impact today, I'm very impressed with them. That little impact sure has power
Yeah it impresses for sure.
Hello, I'd like to see an endurance battery test.
12V 5Ah vs 18V 3Ah.
Drilling and fastening times.
I can’t promise it soon but I’ll add it to the idea list.
I have a 2850 and really like it. It's lighter than a 2953 and the most common screw that its used for is a #9x1.75 flooring screw. The difference in time is negligible. The newer 3650 is a half pound lighter than the 2953. Its only 0.1lb heavier than a m12 fuel impact. When you are using them to drive 200 #6x1.25 screws at eyeball level over a day the weight is way more of an issue.
The size of the new 3650 is something pretty crazy. Even compared to other brands compacts it’s pretty small.
I like the trigger control on the 3650. It’s much better than the 2850. Milwaukee did a great job in improving that area.
so many M18 different models from $228 to $599 here in Australia. I was thinking of buying Makita dtd173 purple but turned to Milwaukee yesterday. Btw, should the text from 11'57 to 12'02 be M18 Testing?
You are right. Missed that one in the edit.
Recently bought the m12 and m18 surge, but my gen 1 still works.
Nice choices.
I just picked up the compact non fuel m18 for $99. Old ryobi hp+brushless died. Hope the Milwaukee is a good one.
So far I have liked it!
Want to see Dewalt do a surge type impact and go 12v stack lithium
Both would be awesome additions.
I'm not seeing a 3553-20 anywhere is this something you got early? If not can I get a link for where to purchase it.
I had a typo on the number during edit. It should be 3453. You are talking about the M12 gen 3, right?
That is correct, thank you.
I just bought this drill. Haven't tested yet but I will be. How much more powerful is the makita xgt 40v drill vs the bosch 1330?
Are you talking about the Fuel Hammer drill? and are you wondering how that compares to the other two, or just how they compare to each other?
I screwed up and post this on the wrong video. I was watching the bosch 1330 hammer drill driver video. Sorry.
@@danielslater8571 no worries. For what it’s worth then, I think the Bosch is stronger but I prefer the Makita. Both are great though.
Like I said. I just received the bosch today and man does it blow away my old hdh 181
How can you tell if you have the dual ball bearing gen 3 fuel?
You can see the ball bearings if you look down inside the collet. If you see a single ball bearing you have one of the older models before they made the switch. If not you should see dual ball bearings.
@@TinkerWithTools one more question, if I’m trying to buy one new , is dies model number imdicate the refresh? Ty for your gelp
To the best of my knowledge they didn’t change the model number at all. Truly the only way to see is looking inside the collet.
After watching this i really wonder if my M18 Surge needs to be fixed, I basically permanently retired it cause it's so insanely slow by the time it drove a single 3 1/2" deck screw my Gen3 had done easily 3-4
Might need to get it looked at.
My M18 surge had to get serviced because it got pretty bad. After being fixed it’s better but ever since on event a few years ago it hasn’t been as strong as my M12 surge.
@@TinkerWithTools yeah i've read the M18 Surge seems to be kinda unreliable, Might not bother and just keep it retired, i wear ear pro anyways and i work outside so it's kinda just a novelty tool for me
The M12 has been rock solid for me! I love the thing. If it broke I would buy it again in a heart beat, but with the M18, I just keep hoping that they will give us a Gen 2 surge.
Do a video with the dewalt impact drivers just asking
I did one of their impacts about 3 months ago.
The M18 BRUSHLESS 3651-20 is very fast and can you Imagine if it was FUEL how fast it would Be
I’m just happy the brushless model got an update. Initially wasn’t that excited about but it is an impressive little impact.
Working the 2753 here.... pro thoughts?
I believe that is the Gen 3 Fuel impact if I am not mistaken. That is a great impact. I had it and have tested it on channel previously but gifted it to my brother when I got the Gen 4. Even though it's older it's still one of the better impacts on the market in my opinion.
@@TinkerWithTools Good to know. It's been good to me so far.
dewalt next!! great video.
I have a video for DEWALT impacts and a separate one for drills. Did them earlier this year or late last year I believe.
you’re right i watched it already 😅
Milwaukee's impact drivers are the one (and only) category of tool that, as a Makita guy, I must concede that Milwaukee's power is simply far superior in their flagship models. Their triggers are not reliable, but their power is so far superior that it makes up for it so long as you have some form of a backup. That is not the case when comparing the 2804 and 2904 with the XPH14: in that case the power difference is negligible.
As your friendly neighbourhood Dewalt guy, "The milwaukee had a full battery, you were using the highest torque setting, and you were pushing down harder on the milwaukee. Try doing that with the dewalt and do the test again." 🤣
Makitas impact have their place with precision and refinement but you are right power and speed is definitely a Milwaukee strong suit.
Not to sound like a fanboy, but I'm pretty sure Milwaukee fuel drill beats the xph14 by quite a bit, just like the impact. Can't really call that a negligible power difference.
@@devonboyer626 that has not been my experience, at least when comparing my 2904 and xph14.
I have video's comparing the two. My experience with the XPH14 is that it has protections that cause it to cut out sooner than the Milwaukee. So it doesn't feel weaker necessarily up to a certain point but then will fail on more challenging tasks. Second, Milwaukee has a host of batteries that improve the performance of the drill, like the HO batteries and the new Forge battery. The Makita doesn't have those options on the LXT side of things, make it feel like a bigger gap depending on how you use the tool.
