That soldering iron is awesome for everything away from the bench.

  • @smtshrek3674

On the hack saw you forgot to mention your hack for seam sealer. I was exhausted stripping away the seam sealer off the fire wall on my iroc with scraper until I seen your trans am video and your clever use of the hack saw blade to remove the old seem sealer. GENIUS!! Tried it my self and came off like butter!
Also that soldering iron is a game changer. I do a lot of wire repair at work(ford master tech) and that soldering iron with this soldering wire from snap on make quick work on harness repairs. I like to use the flat top for more surface area and also works better for plastic repair, and plastic welding with the plastic welding rods snap on sells.
As for that ratchet, I like the newer fuel versions. Much stronger and faster. But nothing wrong with the one you have, I have one too. It’s a workhorse, bough it when they first came out in 2013 and brought it home when I replaced it with the newer fuel version and still rocks at home on my iroc. The trick to those cordless ratchets with the stall you demonstrated, is to spin the ratchet up for a fraction of a second while holding it over the fastener just a hair and drop it onto the head. It will catch and has more torque to loosen the bolt. Doesn’t hurt the ratchet either, I’ve been doing it for along time.
I also have the die grinder, Milwaukee also makes a straight version. And a collet you can change out to 1/8 to use all the dremel bits with. Completely changes the tool and a life saver when the angle can get into spots the rotory tool can’t.
I love the stubby impact, 3/8 with a 15mm swivel socket works wonders removing torque converter nuts on all the newer fords that need to go through starter hole.
1/4 impact is also awesome, the caulking gun is awesome for laying down seam sealer or silicone gaskets on all the dumb new cars that use them. Also the m18 and m12 fans are a must have for summer.
And the best part about the m12 and m18 batteries is they can also be used on Milwaukee’s awesome land scaping tools and heated jackets and sweaters. And once you get your wife a heated jacket, she will get hooked and want you to buy more batteries 😅

At the end there talking about the grinder you are so correct, they go through batteries very quickly, I just this week got a larger one 2981-20 6" hoping it is a big easier on the batteries, try the diamond cut off wheels there great, still on the first one after cutting a lot of metal

Same reason why I have milwaukee. I found a grinder with a battery. So, I bought bare tools since I had the battery.

I have the high speed fuel ratchet its fucking great. I have broken brake caliper bolts on my truck with that ratchet manually and it hold up no problem.
I bought the new fuel high torque which is also amazing. They have crazy bright leds on them now which I end up using as a flashlight when its the only thing within grabbing distance. I've also unbolted rusty cross members from a rusty frame like it was a joke with that impact. For mechanic use a mid torque is probably more practical but I'd rather have too much gun than not enough. The way it auto slows as soon as it breaks the bolts loose is super nice too. I can just one hand it and not worry about my wrist which is nice

I have the gen 2 high torque 1/2 impact too. Love that thing. Got a free 5amp battery with it. I recently picked up the 3/8 stubby, haven't used it yet and I am really looking at getting the insider ratchet. It's hard to find though. Home depot sold out of them so I have to wait to get it.

I have a 1/2 drive Milwaukee M12 impact ratchet. It's a standard ratchet format, not a gun type. It's probably been my favorite as I've used the crap out of it and it's beginning to lose torque. My 2nd favorite is my big M18 impact gun. Made dropping my front diff in my Tahoe a breeze.

I stay away from dewalt, seen several dewalt 700 ft lb snap after a month or 2 and having to hold the battery in place get it to work after a couple weeks

Buy you a 12ah battery for your grinder, costly but a game changer for some of the m18 bigger stuff.

    Matt, good revue.
M12 was my choice. I need small drill to feet in my tool bag.
Milwaukee: driver 2462-20 (I'm using this as impact for all 1/4 sockets, dash screws); 3/8 ratchet 2457-20 (amazing tool); impact 2554-20 (49-66-7021 SHOCKWAVE socket Set) and Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Combo 3497-22-48-11-2425 (last one I'm using everyday on my day job. This is my 3rd set. Other two sets was stolen with my other tools from my van).
Several times, I used 3/8 impact to remove the wheels on my 2500 Express. I put 1/2 adapter and 22mm Harbor Fright socket and it zipped off 8 lugs.

Get a Milwaukee M12 inflator, awesome tool. I've got a Snap On 1/2" air impact and a compressor that is limited and it will not break the lug nuts on my 2001 Silverado loose, but my Milwaukee M12 1/2" Stubby will. I've also got a few of the old style slim bar Harbor Freight lights with extra batteries and a stand alone charger, I recently picked up the new HF slim bar 500 lumen light, it works with the same battery, has USB C charging and it folds up all the way. I've seen Milwaukee has a new neck light for around $100 but I picked up the Braun Neck Light at Harbor Freight for $20 and it does everything I need it to.

So as a non professional home "mechanic" I'm in the market for a drill, ratchet and impact. What should I be looking for in terms of torque and size for each one? For example on the drill 3/8 chuck with how much torque to be adequate, same for the ratchet and impact. Thanks in advance and great video!

Better off getting the newer Dewalt counter parts. Look at torque test channel to see the absolute trouncing SBD has been giving to TTI.

    Ratchet check.

To just buy and use the soldering iron probably isn't bad but I'd definitely say do like I did and get a ts100 and I made a storage and battery box and a silicone cable but now they have the I think ts101 which can do usb c PD and you can get a 65w pd power bank and a good silicone cable and be in business for portable soldering but honestly instead of the ts101 is the pinecil because the quality seems to be about the same for much cheaper and I believe the pinecil 2 is a little better and get a chisel tip

10 and 12g is pushing the limit, but it can do it.using thin solder and flux to get solder joint complete before to much heat is put into the wire. It’s doable and I’ve done it before.

Didn't even know they made that soldering iron, that's going on my Christmas list.
    I own Mil-fuckee for 12v and De-Wilt for 20v
Love my dinky little ratchet, got a hackzall and 1/4" impact drill driver too.
for the De-Wilt I run the cheap 1/2" impact, 1/2" drill, and their cheap grinder.
Super happy with those, especially my two De-Wilt battrees that are over 10 years old now and still kicking.
Be careful with the Mil-fuckee 1/2" 20v impact, they initially redesigned it to be made cheaper, but after tons of complaints and returns they reverted back to the old design. Check out the torque test channel for details, they did a good job testing, tearing new and old designs down to show the difference, and even got communication from Mil-fuckee about the value/profit engineering defects.
