- "Caprice", Alison Balsom's third album for Warner Classics includes of transcriptions of well-known classics especially written for -- and in many cases by -- Alison herself. One of Alison Balsom's musical ambitions is to widen the repertoire for her instrument, following in the footsteps of the great trumpet legend Maurice Andre. The new album showcases her beautifully pure trumpet sound, and includes popular favourites such as Bellini's Casta Diva, Mozart's 'Queen of the Night' aria, as well as sexy and edgy arrangements of works by Piazzola and de Falla.

I can't believe what I'm hearing. Even the violinist gets breathless playing this piece, although it was simplified in some parts. Impressive performance.
You should look up circular breathing
playing this on trumpet is harder than violin because of high blowing.

@@ghp7382 @WI P I don't mean to be that person, but you are just wrong. This is written for the violin. Not the trumpet. Mechanically speaking, this piece is awful for trumpet; or the trumpet wasn't made to play this. Etc. Alison only makes it looks easy because she is a Goddess on the trumpet. You can find dozens of recordings of violinist playing this piece because it was made for the instrument they are holding. Trumpet recordings are rare.
@@Brassmamba to make this piece sound good it obviously takes large practice. But to a very skilled player it isn’t as hard as on violin

If you are a trumpet player you have to listen to this twice; the first time to be amazed by her flexibility and accuracy, and the second to really appreciate the expression and musicality.

If you like this kind of passage you should definitely go listen to Carnival of Venice (Arban edition). There's a variation just like this one.

as a violinist, this piece is like in the top 5 of the most difficult pieces and is extremely hard in terms of technique and intonation and sometimes it doesn't sound pretty well. here you are playing a piece that wasn't even written for trumpet and is incredibly played. really enjoyed it! the trumpet gives the piece a very different, bright and unique sound
I don't think it's more difficult than Wieniawski concerto 1, Nel cor piu mi non sento, God save the queen Paganini variations, Paganini violin concertos, Bartok 2nd violin concerto, etc. I thinl theres many pieces more difficult than 24th Caprice.
At times it sounds its two trumpet playing together! Amazing...

Damn, the dexterity of her fingers and lips is just amazing to witness.
As a trumpet player and a violinist, regardless of how the piece is composed or what instrument is playing it, this is a fantastic piece. The way it's played by both violin and trumpet varies on the person playing and I believe Alison played it beautifully. So, please don't criticize and just listen. Music is for a person's enjoyment. I believe that wholeheartedly.
