    Thanks for showing me the way to replace my Bentley battery.
    I also had to replace the battery in my wife's 2007 BMW 328i. It is actually worse that the Bentley's. I found a video before I did the work and it helped a lot. Just like yours did for my GTC. Thank you for taking the time to help us impoverished Bentley owners.

    Excellent video and comments. All very helpful and gives me the courage to DIY. I wonder how many Bentley owners do this? And I'll second the prior comment about safety in removing all metal objects from the hand. I learned that lesson ages ago when changing a battery at age 13...my watch wrist band heated up faster than lightening and burned my wrist.

    Thank you for the info- I just changed mine without a hitch- I ended up just disconnecting the main battery (Driver's side/ U.S.) AGM battery positive terminal without taking off the 4 connecting positives. It seems to pop off the top of the positive terminal after loosening it and there is enough slack to just bend it out of the while pulling out the battery. Thank you for your info to save me time!

Now my problem is that I keep getting false warnings, such as a flat tire, parking lights on, over temping, etc., so I guess the cars warning system has to be reset, do you have a video that shows how to do a reset of warning systems on a 2005 GT

    Sorry, but you went about the House battery (driver side) totally wrong, you would remove the other carpet panel that in turn allows you to remove the positive power block in one piece, and move it forward out of your way.

    I had the pleasure of changing my battery in my Bentley Flying Spur 2006. I successfully replaced the battery ,but my trunk stayed in the lock position and I could not get it to lock correctly. I tried to press the B and see if it would reset and lock my trunk correctly, but all it did would come back up like it had something upstructing it. I look at the lock mechanism it stayed in the lock position. If possible could you tell me what to do for this problem

    • @JohnEngel

      Eric Henderson I would start with the manual release for the trunk. It does require that you take the rear passenger seat out to get to but this is a great place to see if you can get it open.

    Questions: 1) Rather than using the expensive Bentley or dedicated VTech battery tenders, is is possible to use two good quality Deltran battery tenders, one for each battery? Either through existing battery ports or direct hookups at the battery? 2) Any comments about using AGM batteries?

    • @JohnEngel

      I use a battery maintainer on each battery. It has been working well for me. I use normal ones from Walmart, Schumacher brand. The new maintainers will auto select the battery type to charger.

      I have both a Maserati GT and the Bentley GTC and the complexity of the Bentley is stunning in comparison. The positive battery pole "gang cluster" of wires has frankly been scary to contemplate. Now, my replacement will be slightly different since I will not be replacing the smaller battery. I'm used to the car freaking out after losing main power. We will see is the one-sided change brings out any new features of the arcane electrical system.

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      AIR Nashville I know exactly what you mean. I procrastinated for a month before I made myself tackle this one. If you are only replacing the one main battery you still need to take the negative ground off of the passenger side battery before moving to the driver side. According to Bentley manuals you're supposed to wait roughly 1 minute after disconnecting the passenger side battery before moving to the driver side.

    Hi John, my Bentley 2010 supersports got flat battery. I am not sure if it is the small (Right side) battery or the big one(Left side). The symptom is the door and hood cannot open. I have to use the key to open the door and start the car with left and right turn. Can you advise if this is the small or big battery is weak?

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be honest I would check both batteries. You can use a simple voltmeter and see the voltage of the each battery. I am guessing that it’s the small battery seeing that you can do the left to right key start but most of the time I have replaced both.

    John unfortunately you missed a very important step _- you need to hold the system up with a power pack otherwise you will loose all the system settings - a quick run around the block won’t resolve it - best way to connect the power pack is through the OBD socket located in the footwell on the drivers side.

  • @NT-qw8qh

    Bento dead battery? access to the trunk and you have no way? the right back seat is removable(bottom is lift and pull ,the backrest is 2 screws) and it has small rubber cap u take off and get access to the lever to a lever hidden behind the backseat(secret 007). in gtc is it is between the back wo seats when u open the ski door it on the right side of the left seat there is a socket hole . don't mess up with boosting from the engine side it is messy . now the battery YOU MUST get the right batteries and follow by heart the instructions how to take them off and install new ones in otherwise you risk a massive electrical repairs as this beast has 100s of relays for safety reasons. what i suggest is always put a thick sock or towel on the terminals or best cap the battery heads while taking them out or putting in. be ready for some back pain from the house battery...man just drive the damn beast anywhere u go it really costs more sitting doing nothing....

    I changed my main battery (driver’s side) on my Bentley Continental GT in 5 minutes. All you have to remove is the ground wire on top and loosen the terminal wires and the one bolt that holds the battery in place and pop the battery out. You DON’T need to remove anything else. Doing so is making the job WAY more difficult than necessary.

    I have a 2007 GTC Conv. This was very helpful, BUT on my particular model, there is virtually no space above the driver's side battery, which made it a total cluster trying to pull the battery out. Talked to a dealer who suggested taking the tailight out and acknowledged that this particular model is one of the hardest to replace the battery on. No need to take the taillight out; rather you have to loosen the fuse collection above the battery. He was more than correct on the difficulty, however: It took me the better part of a day to replace both batteries. Idiotic design. Made replacing the battery on my 2008 MB GL550 a piece of cake in comparison (another crazy design). Thanks for the video.

    Hi Nice video, which battery is which ... what are the 2 batteries for and what do they do ...

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheSelec71 the small battery on the passenger side is a backup. The large one on the driver side runs the electrical but in the case this one doesn't have enough juice to start the car the smaller one can be activated and used to start the car.

    • @SW-vk2th
      @SW-vk2th 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      as far as i know the small battery starts the car, the big battery is for all the electrics etc , in an emergency when one or other battery is low, both batteries link up in parallel and will give power to whichever battery is flat via a relay to enable the vehicle to start and get you to safety or repair shop.

    • @TheSelec71
      @TheSelec71 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok ... 2 batteries in a continental gt Why ? the bigger battery on the left is a AGM battery which gives all the power to the car, the other on the right is a Acid battery which is just for starting the car, But if one finds the car won't start due to the battery on the right has failed then one can start the car by inserting the key into the ignition and turn it to the left then to the right which start the car using the AGM battery on the left.

    I myself own a 2006 Bentley Continental and I don't want to take it to the dealership so they can charge me a fortune to fix a few small issues I have with the vehicle. I have looked everywhere and called many people to try and help me remove a few warning lights which will not go away on my dash. One is a tire pressure light, which I tried to reset by hold the trip button while having the key in the ignition. I watched youtube videos but nothing is working. Also my air conditioner only blows hot air and was wondering if its just a fuse that needs to be replaced? No one will tell me where the fuse is located? Maybe you can help me with my issues. Thank You

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lazarus Wolk thank you for the comment. I also have the tire pressure light on. Mine is due to the fact that I have aftermarket wheels with no sensors. There is a way for someone to remove the light with Bentley software but I have not had that done. As for the AC, I am not sure. I stay away from most of the air condition issue because I don’t have the right equipment. Sorry that I could not be of more help.
