    I watched a multitude of videos trying to find a "hack" because I couldn't justify spending $23+ on a reusable pod. And then there were so many steps for all the videos I watched on using aluminum foil, including stacking two pods together. But this is the quickest, and simplest method. also the one that works best, thank you

    If everyone just opened up a Vertuo capsule they'd realize that there is a plastic liner under the aluminum cover. This is a great idea since press and seal is food safe and can be heated. It is unlikely that it is leaching and plastics into your coffee, just like the plastic liner that comes in the original Vertuo capsule is not leaching plastic.

      @. Ahhh, but you failed to mention home distilled water. It is less expensive than bottled water (per litre) and distilled water is 100% clean. And there is a bonus! Distilled water extracts more minerals, antioxidants and flavour from your ground coffee. Even the so call 'experts' don't know that.

    Didn watch the whole video but I do the same thing. Saved alot of money this way. Coffee tastes just as good. Make sure u get the good coffee grind. Cheaper ones tasted terrible. The way I do this is filled the capsule with my coffee then hand seal with foil. Just make sure the bar codes under the capsule are not covered and ur good to go.

    I used this technique with a spent Columbia pod and my normal coffee grounds. My usual grind is relatively fine compared to most drip grinds, but still a bit coarse compared to the Nespresso pods, and it seemed watery coming out, but the taste is actually pretty great on my first try. Probably not different enough to my normal drip to be worth the extra hassle, but it was a fun experiment. The real test will be using a proper fine grind and an espresso pod, but based on this test, I think it'll be fine.
    And for all the folks worried about melted plastic, I inspected the used wrap, and it doesn't appear to have gotten hot enough to melt. Also, the original pod sealing material is made of some sort of plastic and foil composite, so I doubt the press-n-seal is any worse than that, but we all get to make our own choices in life. *shrug*

    You can actually use tin foil to cover and seal the fresh coffee. The machine will still be able to read the bar code if you carefully trim off excess foil The small amount of foil you'll leave to seal it over the lip of the old capsule won't interfere with the machine's ability to "read" the bar code. This worked for me better than plastic wrap.

    I've got the time down to right about 90 seconds per pod using the "My Cup" foil cap system. No scissors required. You can by the starter kit from Amazon for about $26. There are 4 tricks I use to make it go fast: 1) Place a rubber-band around the pod to secure it in the holder. Otherwise the pod moves around while you're trying to place the foil. 2) Just tap down the coffee using the pod holder, gently tapping it down on the counter. This also causes any loose coffee around the edge to fall inside the pod. (I rarely need to use the brush.) It levels off perfectly. No need to pat the coffee down with the back of the scoop. 3) When applying the foil cover, just press with your finger all around the very outside perimeter. You're only concerned with attaching the foil to the OUTSIDE edges of the pod, so run your finger around the HOLDER. That is key. It also prevents you from accidentally damaging the foil. Once the foil sticks, pop up the pod from the bottom of the holder and fold the foil around the lip. 4) When folding the foil, do 4 opposite sides first to hold the foil in place. Do not try to fold the foil by simply starting at one place and going around the pod. The foil can come loose. Lastly, remove the rubber-band and turn the pod over to see if the bar code is visible. Usually, there are one or two places it infringes on the bar code. Simply push the foil back with your fingernail. No need to cut the foil. It sounds like a lot of work, but it isn't. And it's far better than paying $1.10 for each pod from Nespesso. Good luck coffee lovers!

They are also much quicker and easier to use than the Glad press and seal, so I'll be using the foil lids going forward. I also believe the foil is recyclable, while the Glad Press and Seal is not. not a bad try but I think that you are getting your coffee + some very delicious percentage of melted plastic and adhesive not worth the health risk build up, you might be better off just getting the machine from the original line that does not use a bar-code and then you can get 3rd party pods for 25 cents a piece. also just the time it took you to make this seems like a huge investment LOL ! for 1 cup of plastic coffee ...

      There’s people like you all over the internet who think they are better than the content creators talking down on their material. What you fail to comprehend due to your lack of foresight, intelligence, or research is that plastic film has a melting point of around 220 degrees. Coffee is brewed well under that temperature making the coffee safe to drink. If your so keen on not drinking cancer, than coffee should not even be in your diet and stick to distilled water.

    This saves cost but not time, which is the main purpose for most in getting a Nespresso machine. Will stick to the regular espresso brewing pot. less hassle

      I think he meant by actually doing 12 at once instead of 1 at a time when needed. You'll cut your time in half, easily. Kind of like an assembly line. Boom!

    • @cynapple42
      @cynapple42 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Leah, you can continue to reuse it. Just wash them and don't bang them too much so they can keep their shape. Duane Reade has the press n seal on sale this week 2 for $6! It's my first time using that product - it's REALLY GOOD!!!

      I agree, we still have some of the original capsules that came with the machine. Less fiddly than using the foils that stick on - they are extremely fragile.

  • @makeuprevs

    I’m going to agree with many other similar comments and say that the cancer/negative health risks aren’t worth using the press n seal. Is there another material that you can use instead? Also, what are the pods themselves made out of? Since they are designed for single use, how many times can/should they be used before they lose their integrity and you start ingesting pod/plastic in your cup of coffee every morning? I know there is a stainless steel version of the original tiny Nespresso pod, do they not make a true safe reusable vertuo pod?

    • @YR-oc3tp
      @YR-oc3tp 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, there are a few reusable stainless steel vertouline capsules in the market.
      at first I bought one that did not work but then I found one that really works well its worth trying out
