I use the foil, works perfectly. I do buy pods also they are excellent but I’m on a budget and reuse and recycle pods.

I saw someone use another cup to squish the aluminium between two pods so you dont need to trim.

You can just cut the rim of another pid out the foil over that and insert it into another pod and the barcode works fine. Rather than trimming
I have a question about the barcode. It is my understanding (I am new to this machine, just bought one a couple of weeks ago) that the barcode tells the machine how much pressure to use and how much water to use for certain types of coffee or espresso. Wouldn't you want to make sure that you use the right type of pod for espresso or double espresso because the barcode on those pods would tell the machine exactly how to make the coffee? If you use only the same one for every coffee, it wouldn't come out the way it was meant to. Am I wrong about this?

So I would just like to clarify...... I like to have a double shot of espresso and then a 14 oz. Bold Coffee mixed with the espresso shot. Certain bar codes read for different sizes of coffee/espresso. So I need to keep pods that have bar codes suiting for 14 oz AND one that will do espresso 2 ounces. Am I understanding that correctly

No they do not
Do you really not use the filters with mycap? You can see that some of the coffee has come out of the pod, presumably also into the machine. How long have you been using mycap without filter?
The coffeemate peppermint mocha doesn’t exactly establish credibility. It’s like buying a Big Green Egg and a prime steak and then pouring Hunts ketchup all over it

So, is it a given that at some point new Nespresso coffee will have to be purchased because reusing the pods will wear them out to the point they will no longer work in the machine? I'm considering whether I should return this machine while I have the option, and get one of the original line machines for which there are 3rd party pod options. Honestly I never want to pay Nespresso's coffee price.

Their price isn’t that bad. They produce excellent coffee. Why put your expensive machine at risk? There’s other ways you can save on $ in your life. Buy the good stuff

No but I have started using regular filters I just put it on first and then the cap on top and I trim the filter

Mathew Linderman The link for the reusable top said “Not to be used with auto-close machines”. I guess it because the holes in the Teflon caps need to align with the pins in the top. The link stated “For auto-close machines we recommend our foil cap solution.”

Stop being CHEAP! If you can’t afford the coffee, this is not your machine. The original blends of coffee come from all over the world. Reusing with Pilón is crap.
You're right about Pilon. I use Lavazza now. However not everyone is as rich as you and so this helps the rest of us who aren't well-off like you to be able to have coffee with whatever blend we can afford like Pilon. You shouldn't be such an elitist it's not a good look.
