Flux truly is your friend. That heating station is trick. They always just gave us those Junkie desoldering tools that most people know. Gonna have to repair mine, as they are the six-axis you have, and they never made them long. Great content my friend. Thanks for the small print and helpful tips.
Well I bought a 5pk off of ebay which stated that they were for ps2, ps3, and xbox 360. I finally got the old one out, tried to put new one in and found out that 2 of the 4 pins for L3 and R3 buttons were farther away and would not fit!! So I went back to look for other ones and they all look the same as the ones I bought. So do I send them back for refund, or try bending those 2 pins?
You have to do a little digging for a 4 pin, since they only used them in specific models. They're harder to find. They probably got rid of all the 4 pin stock they had so it only shows a 3 pin.
I replaced my PS3 controller sticks with some that look exactly like the ones on your video. They work good but not in all directions 360 degrees. Only 4 directions for example top, right, bottom, left not in any 360 degree direction. Did your replacement stick cause the same problem?
I honestly think its just a wear and tear type of thing. I have a few that have zero issues, but also weren't used nearly as much as the one that was repaired!
so i analog goes bat shit crazy on mine . cleaned the controller cleaned the ribbon connection to the board used tape for support. and its still doing it . i don’t know what to do at this point..
Do we need to be a professional to use these tool such as the soldering iron? Are you a professional? What's the kind of glue you're pouring above the old soldering iron? Do you need it to remove remainings of it?
The problem is, the replacement joystick is the same ones they use in cheap reproduction controllers. Better off just buying a new repro controller for $20.

It's fun, maybe you are like me who still has some old controllers of xbox/ps etc. You can watch a soldering tutorial, it's not much just the basics. After watching, you can "play" with your old controller and give them some soldering love :D

Rashad Abdullah it doesn’t affect the tension of the joystick. It affects only the response of the directions. If you want to replace the joystick just desolder it without the the original potentiometer and solder the new joystick.

This must have been his first time. He didn't realized of the one screw holding the panel & he burnt the hell of the panel getting the old solder off the panel. And last, he never show the control work after his handy work.
That was the flux residue that burned. A soldering iron would never burn the board like that, especially all the way down the side. At 9:45 you can see how clean (and not burned) it is.
After watching this, I have simply decided that attempting an repair is not worth the effort. I am gonna go ahead and drop the bucks to buy another one and hope for luck.

Thanks! 😄

For the record that's a 3 pins joystick
a 4 pins one has an extra pin on 2 sides
The soldering method still works, but the parts are harder to find.
Hey the link to the replacment part you posted is a 3 pin. I'm having trouble lmfinding the 4 pins for the dualshock 3's
AMAZING STUFF BRO!
Keep up the great work!
You should used solder week. To open the analog rings.
I can't find a video where the analog stick pops out and you can move it up and down by pulling or pushing. Just the analog stick outside, not inside
Great video!

I did this to mine put it back together for it to start having a seizure now my controller doesent work lmao.. I guess it decided it was done for good
You mentioned "4 pin" in the video but the link you have for ali express is a 3 pin. I am wondering which one is it really.

Can you use a PS5 controller analog for PS3??
Nice bro , btw what's inside the injection ?
That would be flux, it makes soldering a whole lot easier and nicer!

Like the analog stuck, and wont back as original

what heat level do you set your gun?

Buy an Alps it's good of favor union polyhsine
That's a heck lot of solder you placed on the pins of a new joystick...

What is the best temperature for removing the joystick
With heat
It depends to be honest. I'm usually around 750-850F on my soldering iron and around 393C on my hot air station.
