iakovos harvey Searched for a half an hour on the internet to find information on that bass. I came up empty. Is it the only one in existence? Amazing sound.
The legendary Jazz Pioneer/Alto saxophone player Charlier Parker once said "Don't play the saxophone, let it play you". I feel Thundercat embodies that philosophy a lot. He's phenomenal
@@skornthesnake6935 well here’s the thing. Abasi is more imaginative rhythmically, due to his constant surroundings being AAL, arguably one of the most technically and rhythmically complicated metal bands of all time, while Thundercat on the other hand, is an r&b/soul/jazz artist, and he has a very deep grasp on harmony. Both of them are different in what they understand. I would argue that tosin rhythmically is more talented than Thundercat (which says a LOT), however Thundercat functions as a strong multi instrumentalist and as a WICKED bass player. They’re just different, neither better than another.
I love that while its clear that Thundercat has put in a lot of work to be the best musician/artist he can be, he doesn't take himself or his musicianship/artistry too seriously. In other words, he makes sure to enjoy the entire process and have fun.
He doesn’t even realize how much insight there is to be taken from this. A person’s ego can easily be a distraction from what the person has to offer, but he doesn’t even seem to know, somehow. At least, he didn’t when this video was made
Pig Wizard man, I've been thinking about this for a long time and I gotta say I'd want a few different people. A lot of people might hate me for this one, but throwing Terry Bozio in on a track or two would just be killer. And on the subject of special guests for it, I'd love to have Josh Travis lend a hand. Christ the technical powerhouse that would be. But for primary drummer? The dude from Necrophagist.
Pig Wizard OH and I'd love to hear them riff & solo over a Flylo beat. Thundercat's work with Flylo is already tight as fuck. Tosin, Josh, Thundercat, and Flylo all providing some instruments and beats while some absolutely stunning vocalist (Diane Coffee, Niki Randa, Jim James, Spencer Sotelo) gives a vocal performance. But that's just me, man. What collabs would you like to see?
the best part about thundercat is that yes, he can do that crazy fast jazz fusion 6 string shit. but the dude can groove to an unreal level you can hear that alot in to pimp a butterfly
The problem with very good bassist and other good musicians is that there is no secret nor specific exercises to do in order to achieve their personal music experience. What is he simply trying to say is that, you have to study a lot of basic stuff, and then try to find your own dimension in the bass, following your heart. It's like asking someone who writes incredible books "where do you find the inspiration?" , they don't even know themselves, but they know they practiced so much, that they can really give shape and expressions to their thoughts. Cheers
Gordon Christopher Tubo I think that y abasi is a really skilled virtuoso musician, but as far as creativity goes thundercat is unmatched and pairing them would be good only if thundercat is allowed to write all the music ;)
+Gordon Christopher Tubo DUDE! omg dude man you dont know how much i love this comment i legit just got into this dude and have been listening aal for ages and as soon as i heard this guy i thought the exact same thing.

He embodies a part of me, sonically, with his bass playing style. Never seen a dude play to the level I want to achieve. There is a lane for us. Keep killing it, bruh bruh.
This video has been an incredible inspiration to my guitar playing. It really made me remember how much of playing is in the right hand. Started young with a pick, then later switched to fingers out of necessity for chokes on unique voicings. Now I'm working out my IM hard and it is so liberating. Love you Stephen!
Incredible bass player/musician Awesome skills his approach is more guitar oriented Love the chording as well as that hollow body Ibanez its a perfect fit sounds great!! someone said HE is the bass I know right!!
I’m not a bass players bass player. Mentions sitting next to Hadrien and his flurry style and him not being that. Then instantly cuts to him doing just that in a soundcheck with even more virtuosity lol
I emailed Ibanez and: "At this time, that bass is currently a prototype. However, while we work with the artist to fine-tune the specs and appointments, there is a good chance they will move into production in the not too distant future" :D
Remember, kids: learn your scales so you can grow up big and strong like thundercat

Ibanez needs to release that 6 string artcore as his signature bass or something
iakovos harvey Searched for a half an hour on the internet to find information on that bass. I came up empty. Is it the only one in existence? Amazing sound.
its custom made
I think they showcased in at NAAM this year, so they might release it in the near future.

Dude kills it then tells us he's nervous. Like bro, we actually admire that you're not the typical bass player. He's so humble.
Let's be honest about him: he doesn't play the bass, HE IS the bass!!
You said it. He is the embodiment of feeling the music.
Names Revers That's what's up!

I think that there are some people that play with arrogance but I love his humbleness. He is my all time favorite bass player
+Ivan Walker Well said & is a true catalyst of loving creativity & is the embodiment of each note he translates. .
He has trouble speaking because his first language is bass.
the interview has a great awkward feel.
Thundercat does not play bass, that is a normal sized jazz guitar. He is just small in stature.
umm, not really... I saw him live in Orlando last month at The Beacham opening for Flying Lotus' You're Dead concert and he didn't appear that small.
zeroswings2 its a joke....

Besides the fact that Steven is a virtuoso, he's one of the most open minded musician in today's musical landscape
I'm telling you, flatwounds are where its at. You get such a warm, full tone. Such a great player and composer.
+Antoine Mack I think his E, A and D are flats but it looks like his B, G and C are Nylon but I'm still not sure what they are.
+Sam Dando none of them are nylon. They're all metal strings, it's just the bass tone that hass a lot of treble, plus the semi hollow bass model!
+Jai Castellanos They are all flats but he is using 2 different gauges of flats
+Sam Dando yep
The tone is in your hands
Thundercat is actually the guitar. No one knows the man that it is playing, but apparently his name is Steve

Kind of thick strings for a guitar, no?🤣🤣
