@Scott 1 .. Doesn't matter, saying "okay Google" "Alexa" "Siri" risks triggering huge numbers of people's devices. I'm certain everyone with Amazon couldn't care less if a video says "okay Google" but the second someone says "Alexa" it's a whole different thing. Most TH-camrs understand this.

So I just bought this even though I have a 2018 LG C8 tv. The reason is that HDMI ARC (or eARC on current LG models orz) doesn't offer support for lossless audio. So I can't get TrueHD with my Dolby Atmos as the ARC pipe maxes at 1mbit. The solution, it to run this to the home theatre, negating the tv having to send audio to the home theatre (critical for Atmos users and anyone who wants Blu-ray quality audio)

Besides... anyone that hooks this thing up will need a different length anyway... so what is the point in adding a short cable that 95% dont need, because it is to short or people have another one that is allready hooked up to their TV, because they have more cables than HDMI slots ?!?

So i even considered buying a new remote however i cannot purchase it here seperately. So i finally thought of getting the 2019 model which obviously comes with the new remote and some new AI upcaling tricks however i just cannot deal with the reality that this streamer does not have a USB port . Just needed 1 NVIDIA. i have found a deal at a retail store that equates to $142 USD howver i just cannot get over the fact how inaccessible NVIDIA has made products to be. They have tons of money i get that and their product is unrivalled but why make it so hard to have accessories ready and sold everywhere , its almost like saying 'I am the best - u just have deal with the shit i have to offer whichever way i like'

I have a SONY Smart TV but recently the 2.4GHZ wifi is getting sluggish, it disconnects and streams low quality from AMAZon Prime and Netflix . It's a 4K screen and I have a stack of HDMI cables . So, instead of buying a new 4K TV for a few thousand dollars I can do this upgrade for a couple of hundreds and oh yes the SONY controller is getting slooooooooow I tried a new one but the same so it must be the IR in the TV degrading . also the extra bandwidth on 5GHZ Wifi will be a bonus . i RUN aSUS WIFI 6 ROUTERS IN A MESH system and my signal on the 5GHZ band is very strong .

Gamestream was rather wonky even over 1GB ethernet and my generic no-name bluetooth controller ofc had the wrong button mapping. "Press-B" it says. "Ok nothing happens, oh I guess Y is B. Oh ffs!" Guess I can't escape dishing out for a decent 10 meter long hdmi cable. I just want to play 1080p games like Dragonage Inquisition from my PC whilst sitting on the couch. I'm not even asking for 4k here, since I have an old GFX970 (That thing has held up! Spend a little more on a XX70+ card and not some XX60 budget thing).
🤔 Though if I upgrade to some RTX thingy one day then I will definativiallyallyallyetively (Sorry, english is not my first language.) want 4k... So get fancy schmancy future proof cable?
And why can't I just use the controller hooked up to my PC? It's in the same room, like 3m line of sight away from my couch.
My tv is like 5m away from my PC if I run the cable across the floor, but tripping on that and potentially destroying the connectors in the TV or PC would not be good. So gotta run that along the wall which brings it up to 10m, perhaps 8 if I strain it. It would be the best, no nonsense connection. Streaming is just one more layer of complications.
    First world problems...
Otherwise the Shield is great. Super responsive and supports all that Dolby stuff you never notice is on, but which is nice to know is on. I mean if my TV can show Netflix in higher resolution and more colors than my eyeballs can detect, then I want that on at all times no matter the bandwidth cost! Though now I am in a low res TH-cam phase where I gawk at the AI upscaling using the demo mode. "Ohmygawd! I can totally see more stubble on that guys face!"

I think the Shield remote alone makes it better than the other streaming boxes. It's possibly the best feeling remote I've had while ones with touch features (like the Apple TV) are annoying in my view.

  • @Sol3UK

It is much faster at accessing iPlayer/Prime etc than my brand new TV. If you hide this behind the TV or an amplifier be aware you might not be able the stream 4K videos without it stuttering, it requires direct line of site to your router or as close to that as possible, as Marcus states, use an Ethernet connection.
