    One thing that I feel should be mentioned is the ability to buy replacement parts from the OEM and whether or not the OEM provides guides on how to repair your device.
    I say this as my 5 years old roomba has been cleaning 4x a week for the last 5 years and the one or two times something had broken, it was simple and easy to get a replacement part and replace it myself. I’m not familiar with Roborock but it would be nice to add to your comparisons.

    This format is amazing. Actually you've made some similar videos in the past and I loved them. Actually last month I finally decided (based on over an year watching your channel and future expectations) what robot I want to buy and am already having a ton of fun with the Roborock S7. For a future purchase I will take the auto empty bin. But even though I have it, I still continue to keep close track on the channel, so yes - do more Matchups!

    Because of working from home during covid, battery life can be more important because of noise. With my i7+, it can finish vacuuming my entire apartment if I go out to buy lunch or run an errand. Unfortunately the S9+ can't do the same job in one run so often needs to be run while I'm at home and the noise can be bothersome. Not only does the S9+ need to recharge in the middle of cleaning, but it runs significantly slower than my i7+ too.

    I’d love to see one comparing the Dyson Omniglide and the Dyson Micro. I love the multi-directional feature of the Omniglide, but the handle of the Micro makes me think the Micro might be a better choice (because you can use it more easily as a small handheld vacuum). But with the Micro you miss out on the dual fluffy rollers as well as the multi-directional head. So I’m really torn!

  • @xamomax

    This was great! I would also like to see tests on how well they work when crossing boundaries between carpet and hard flooring, how well they avoid getting stuck under furnature that is about the same clearance as the height of the robot, and how reliably they return to base, especially if the base is somewhat obscured by furniture or whatever.

  • @sycksyn

    How about finding a way to test their HEPA filtration system? A vacuum is only as good as it's ability to prevent the particles from becoming airborne.

    • @jjayguy23
      @jjayguy23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, but remember these tiny vacuums have only a fraction of the suction that upright versions have. Less airflow, means a regular filter might be enough. To help combat the lack of HEPA filters, I make sure to run Air Purifiers in my house. My robot vacuum doesn’t aggregate my allergies, and it doesn’t have HEPA.

      @@VacuumWars any robot with sensor fusion technology? Where it uses the lidar+vslam.

  • @victorc9195
    @victorc9195 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    @vacuum wars I think you missed two big points regarding the Roborock…..one being that it has no bin-full sensor. It’s an issue because the bot sometimes fails to empty itself after a job because the alignment is sometimes off when it autodocks. This has a cascading effect because it results in the next job starting with a potentially full bin. It was getting to the point that I had to check the bin to make sure it emptied almost every time because otherwise the bot didn’t clean at all, it just wandered around with a full bin. The other issue with a mop/vac combo is that because the bot has a water tank, it inevitably has a smaller dust bin. The issue is again exacerbated by the fact that it doesn’t have a bin full sensor, so the possibility of the bin maxing out during a cleaning run and doing nothing for the rest of the session is very real….these were kind of deal breakers that def give the edge to iRobot in my opinion.

    • @alex8449
      @alex8449 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really you can just schedule a few rooms and it'll auto empty then just have a separate schedule for the other rooms and it'll empty... I don't even own one and even I know that... Creating two schedules takes 30 seconds and your problem is solved
      It's also one less sensor to clean which means roborock is the winner

    • @victorc9195
      @victorc9195 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@alex8449 maybe you missed the part where I said it doesn't empty all the way.... habitually...a self emptying robot that doesn't empty itself is a fail, so the nod goes to irobot.

    • @Osama-cy1ch
      @Osama-cy1ch ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been using an S7+ for 10 months daily now without ever experiencing this issue...just got a s7 max v ultra last week and again no issues similar to what you're describing.......seems like you were experiencing a software bug and nothing more.
      It seems you're unaware irobot has a patent on a bin-full sensor until 2023...roborock has found a clever way around that and it works incredibly well.

Couple reasons I went with the s7 is the mopping (I have all tile downstairs) and that it's bagless... I'll get a Roomba to replace my current roomba for upstairs (which is all carpet). However, the mopping .is a complete joke and doesn't soak the mopping pad well enough and leaves a small streak. This seems to be more of a design problem. Battery life is a huge deal. For those of us that work from home, we need the vacuum to finish the job on the first attempt. I can't have the vacuum running out of juice, then resuming while I'm on a conference call. 5 hours later when the battery fully recharges, everyone is starting to get home and will want to watch TV or have dinner without the vacuum rolling under their feet. The battery is a much bigger deal than people realize.

      Also, batteries degrade over time, which means they don't hold charge as long as they used to. Having a bigger battery is good because it may very well mean that you never need to replace it.
      For instance, say that the usable battery capacity drops to 50% after several years. If that's still enough to vacuum your home, you won't even notice it.

  • @Sail218
    @Sail218 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The Roborock suffers from a fatal design flaw that over time causes an error 10 'filter is clogged or wet' and reduced fan speed. The issue is that there is something about the design that allows dirt and dust to pass the filter and catch basin and clog the intake fan housing. This also causes reduced suction power over time. The other problem is, there is no easy way to clean the intake, it requires disassembling the machine and about 3 hrs of your time.

Not only would this compare more accurately, but it would allow people to compute their own weighted scores based on how much they value each of the individual categories.

    Great series but have a couple problems: you need to weight the points. Giving the roborock 1 point for cost and right now it’s $50 different. But then giving only 1 point for cleanliness 96 vs 80 is not even close. One thing I didn’t see was object avoidance. I would add that category.

    Good stuff here. My Roborock S5 gets terribly tangled with dog hair (4 dogs). I love pretty much everything else about it, but it makes me weary about buying another. I know the S7 comes with a rubber brush now, but the Roomba looks astonishingly good at not getting tangled.

    Opinions please! If you had a home with 90%+ hard floors (the exception being one 9 X 12 area rug in the living room), would you just buy the best hard floor robovac, and manually vacuum the area rug? The bonus of that choice is that a vacuum for the carpet could be a model with a hose and attachments for extra convenience.

  • @ralf7823
    @ralf7823 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    actually the choice here is pretty easy. If you have (more) hard floors, go for the Roborock. If your floors are carpet. It's the Roomba you will want.

    You should have tried the Roomba in the dark. It is a lot worse than with light. And for me personally it is a big plus that the station of the Roborock can be used without bags as well. I don't want to buy expensive bags every 2 month.

      That's only available in the European version I think. You can only buy the version with bags if you live in North America, something to do with FCC requirements or whatever I heard.

    I do like the head to head format for alike robots. Maybe it's worth giving half-marks for 'slight' advantages like the price being only 10% cheaper or the hair tangles being equally good except in extreme hair length circumstances.
    I do wish your reviews included more tests of navigational complications since in my experience finding a robot that can navigate your space can outweigh some vacuum performance ability.
    For example, I unfortunately had to return the Deebot D8+ which was an *excellent* robot, but it struggled with my mirrored closet doors and navigating over my dark blue bathroom mat.
    My Roborock S6 has no issue with these environments, and that is the only reason I was unable to "upgrade".
    The Deebot had no problem vacuuming a deep shag carpet whereas the stock S6 side brush would get tangled up in it. It turns out that a knockoff replacement side brush solved this problem on the roborock.
    Some tests I would recommend are mirrors, dark rugs, shoelaces, loose cords, tight spaces (like navigating under 4 legs of a chair), shag carpeting... I'm sure you can find more examples of navigational complications online.
    Anyway, love the channel! Keep it up!

    Please add a 2 different corners to your hardwood square box tests or at least place a chair , as during vacuuming and especially with moping, it makes a huge difference to the result, as it has an angle of approach, and navigation, cleaning method it uses, I own a T8 aivi and there are issues when moping around table or chair legs

  • @TheMonkIsMad
    @TheMonkIsMad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Navigation - point to Roborock. LIDAR does not require the room to be lit, whereas, VSLAM does, thereby limiting the window as to when the iRobot can be run. With regards to cleaning ability, you should take into account that Roborock cleans around the empty dock base, whereas, iRobot does not. In addition, the operation of the Roborock is superior to that of the iRobot. For example, when Roborock encounters an error the robot announces exactly what the error is and how to resolve it, whereas, iRobot directs the user to open the app for resolution instructions. On a personal note, I have had immeasurably more problems with iRobot than I've ever encountered with Roborock. In conclusion, I very much enjoy your reviews and videos.

    I loved this video as well as all of your videos!! We literally bought a Dyson V8 absolute a few years back due to your videos, as it was the best vacuum available at the time. We are in the market for a robot vacuum. I think I have narrowed it down to the roborock s7 with the auto empty bin and the ecovac N8 pro plus. We mainly have hard floors in our house and we have a baby on the way. We need a vacuum that Is great on hard floors and the mopping feature is a nice addition given our floor type. Which vacuum would recommend for my situation?
    I would love to see a matchup between the roborock s7 and the ecovac n8 pro plusi!

      I have preferred the i7 in a past video.

    • @GoFastGator

      The S9 had some serious hardware issues with early models becoming unusable due to the dreaded “Error 31”. iRobot replaced those units under warranty and my second unit has been great ever since. I will say that the D shape of the S9 is a disadvantage when it gets under dining room chairs. Ours seem to be just right to let it in but confuse the heck out of it getting out.
      Better than the i7? My MiL has the i7, in a tighter floor plan than ours and no self-empty base. It’s real close, but I still like our S9, especially on carpet. It’s had no trouble at all with my wife’s long hair, or our dog’s constant shedding.
      Can’t wait for VW to get his hands on the brand-new j7+!

    It's strange because I purchased both for different reasons. I've never had a single problem with the roomba and it's integration into the Google Home app was seamless whereas the Robo I've had countless issues. Gets stuck constantly, the app barely works, the self emptying vacuum clogs, and the brush system clogs. None of which the roomba has had in over a year.

    I just unleashed the Roomba i8 (Costco version of i7) and the Roborock S4 on my new house. The S4 maps much faster and on hard flooring, it seems to do a better job. No surprise there on either count. I had been keeping clean floors with manual vacuuming until the house was unpacked enough for the robots to do most of the work. It was surprising how much stuff the Roborock picked up. Robots are much better at vacuuming under large, low objects and they are more methodical than tiny me.

    (1) Are either of these 2 more likely to grab onto a bed skirt and not let go?
    (2) with regards to the one that mops too - how does it work around a sloppy dog’s water bowl and loose dog hair? I have that issue with Swiffer. I try dry - sweeping first, but if I get too close to the bowl, I just get a mess that often doesn’t pick up. I may have to wait 10 mins or so before I go back with the sweeping. It may be next to impossible to put in auto mode if I’m somewhere else.
