What I truly admire about Charlie Benante is how he stays incredibly faithful to Vinnie Paul's original drumming. He honors the legacy by replicating Vinnie's nuances so precisely, keeping the beats and tone spot on, to the point where you can close your eyes and feel like you're hearing the original. It’s clear that Charlie has immense respect for the music and wants the fans to experience it just as they remember. His dedication and attention to detail are unmatched!
@@Brouseynothing is triggered aside from MAYBE the kick, and even that might not be triggered. Ignorant
@@Brousey the only thing that could be triggered is the bass drum. Everything else is definitely not triggered
What impressed me most is his musical use of crashes. Listen closely how he hits crashes of lower and higher tones to fit actual keys. This is amazing
He's using rides for crashes. Rides are placed where there's normally crashes
This song along with I’m Broken are the very definition of groove metal for me
@@saintzarkbeats yes.. but I think we're gonna end up with their whole catalog on this list at this rate 😂
And I love it 🤘
Charlie is a well respected drummer, and he *still* doesn't get the level of praise he deserves. Dude is on another level
I think out of the thrash drummers from the 80s (even to today), I think he is underrated.
Met him once. He's such a nice and totally humble dude, and you're right about him not getting enough recognition or praise for his talent.
fuck yea buddy i have always loved his style. i always think of him in my top five
Met Charlie last year in Prague and he is one of the most humble dudes to grace the metal scene. He actually introduced himself as Charlie like I wouldn’t know he was - we also joked about his ‘side project’ Anthrax. Legend
Hell yeah go Charlie! 👏
Ola, I didn’t expect to see you in the comments after I just made a comment about you here.. 🙂
I wish you played guitar in this cover band, I think you are best choice
Those rack toms are so 1980s -- I love it! Absolutely enormous!
I still have my Tama Granstar IIs from the early 90s. Those toms are enormous.
Vinnie paul was a great composer. Everything is in the right place here,no unnecessary virtuosism, every drum beat and passage is musically perfect and complementary to the rest of the instruments and the song in general
^This100%
I’ve said this to people for years and why he’s one of the greats of metal drummers. Vinnie absolutely had the technical chops but he was never about dazzle…….everything he played served the music and went perfectly with what the band wanted to convey.
@@thehawk05this is the exact description everyone gives their favorite drummer lol
It's just could never have been anyone else. Those songs are so unique. Pantera make it sound like so much more than just drums bass guitar and vocals , it's crazy.
Hard to believe Charlie is 61 years old! Man has discovered the fountain of youth and still plays every bit as energetically as he did in the '80s
Yeah, I was just thinking to myself that he must be already 60 years old or something. Then I saw your comment. Cheers!
All the Anthrax guys still look like they're in their 40s except for their lead guitarist who I think actually is 😅
Watching someone actually play this rather than just listening to it you can really appreciate how slow it is, how it’s able to breath in a way, almost like it’s biding its time. Amazing work!
One of my favourite pantera songs
Man, this brings back memories of air drumming along with this as a 15 year old. One of my favourite albums. I'm going to have to create another account so I can like this video twice!
Charlie is 100% the perfect man for the job! Lucky to have seen him in one of the first shows with Pantera in 2022! 🔥
the 14" and 15" rack toms look so insane. i love it.
also as always absolutely great playing from charlie
@@KiwiExpressCream It's 14" 15" 16" 18".
Camera angle just makes the tom look bigger than the snare, but if you look at both toms, you can see the difference.
@@x8jason8x Yeah, I think you're right. I just assumed he'd gone for that Vinnie Paul 15/15/18/18 set up.
@@KiwiExpressCream Vinnie had a lot figured out about metal drumming before most people. I didn't know he used a 15 15 18 18 though, that seems weird. I know he tuned them alternately for sure, did he use different depths?
EDIT: Nvm, I just remembered he used Ddrum, everything was triggered. 🤣
@@x8jason8x Triggered? That's terrible, may as well use an electronic kit, although that doesn't look as metal! I just remember his kit from an article in Modern Drummer years ago and me thinking that 15/15/18/18/24/24 was just insane! Looked cool though 🤣
This is probably my favorite Pantera song ever made. For me, it embodies everything that makes them great: the grooves, the power, the songwriting, the lyrics, the musicianship. The best example of groove metal! Extremely powerful, hard hitting, yet has swing! It even allows for each band member to showcase their skills as individuals, yet comes together as a cohesive whole.
Both legends, 2 of the most influential metaldrummer of ever! RIP VINNIE, THANKS DRUMEO FOR THIS GIFT
Charlie's playing is always a joy to behold!
Charlie killed it or course. One of my favorite Pantera songs. RIP Vinnie!
Love Charlie, so cool to see him backing up Phil and the rest of the boys
IMHO One of the few drummers who could fill this seat and own it.. Charlie's rock solid as always..
Perfect example of how to make things sound simple to work with the song, but have enough nuance to keep it interesting. Great dummer.
Seeing his reflection in the black drum heads makes for a great shot.
This guys is filling an enormous pair of shoes, and he delivers!. Awesome performance, simply spot on and true to Vinnie's style.
I love the way this song just "breathes", the use of the spaces between the notes, and how it sounds really simple to play..... until you actually sit down to play it
Rest Easy Vincent!! Charlie is keeping your vibes alive!!
Those Paistes sound freaking amazing! Great job Charlie on honoring Vinnies parts!
Everything about this is great. What a drum arrangement. Great sounding kit. What a drummer.
I respect that he plays the drum parts so accurately to what vinnie played, and I respect the similarity of the kit itself to Vinnies.
can't think of a better person to teach double bass then Charlie Benante since he is one of the grandfathers of the blast beat and one of the nicest guys in thrash
I still can't believe that this guy is 61 years old. I mean look at him and hear his drumming. I've seen him twice with Pantera and he was incredible.
RIP Vinny. Charlie absolutely crushed this. Love it.
One of the most metal songs ever! Still remember when i watched it on TV.... INSANE. Those Vinny (now Charlie) beats still reverb today
Drumeo's apology for making him play a barbie song last time .
this is GOLD...
thank you Drumeo... thank you Charlie.
so spot on.. other than the little bit at the second half of the verse where Vinnie turns the beat around around to the off Eighth notes.
TWIN PEAKS SHIRT! OMG I NEED THAT
Legendary drum writing from Vinnie, so out of the box and still trully musical. So taking this gig is a MAJOR responsibility, kudos to Charlie!
I love Charlie's and Vinnie's drumming. Never over the top like so many other metal drummers. Instead, doing exactly what the song needs and not more. Fantastic drumming
Charlie is such a good drummer man
3:55 one of the heaviest breakdowns of all time 😍
I recognized the name and immediately thought "PAISTE". Amazing choice of cymbals. And of course, amazing playing.
i love the sound of microphones on all the drums, and a wicked kit ....that was in the pocket. some drummers think its impressive to play fast...i enjoy listening to drummers like charlie who can sit back and mesh perfectly w the sound of the band. this was great
TWIN PEAKS 🖤
Woah , F-ing Woah , been air drumming to Pantera my hole life , that was 110% spot on. I've heard the recent live performances but the stadium recordings and all the room delays and slap back don't do his playing justice. That was amazing , and also amazing to see just how great a drum part that really is , so many important little peices but all tied into a deep groove so far back in the pocket you will fall off your seat. 5 stars Charlie, please do some more Drumeo.
Don't even care to hear the Pantera song, just want to give Charlie some views... He's definitely one of the most underrated drummers ever...
Sounds great. Nice work Charlie.
Vinnie was so smooth and nuanced. Great cover!
CHARLES IN CHARGE!!!!
I really enjoyed this video! Powerful! Heavy! It's rocks!
Absolutely love this and Charlie is definitely underrated ❤️
vaaaaamoooooooo chaaarrrliiieeeeeeeee
the respect you have for vinnies compositions..
there´s no other way..
THANK YOU.
Charlie staying absolutely faithful to the track, without sacrificing any of his style at all, down to the Starclassic Performers and signature snare!
Great song and Charlie is so tight!
Charlie is indeed an outstanding professional. His experience with Anthrax made him consolidate as one of the best hard rock drummers the U.S. has ever had. And that's why I think he's the perfect fit to work with Pantera.
Huge respect for Charlie (and Zakk). This is no easy gig. I think that even the fans that were against the idea in the beginning have to admit that both Charlie and Zakk have nothing but love and respect for Dime and Vinnie. Charlie plays it note for note. Seeing him play this gives me nothing but pleasure. Kudos brother!
Nah, still not about it. Phil is a great vocalist but is a plain bad dude that said terrible things about the brothers that played a part in the tragedy that ensued, and is using their creation to make money after their death. It’s very clear by now, like the Pink Floyd situation, who the jerk of the situation was. Pantera is dead.
@@profile5 that has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. I was talking about Charlie and Zakk.
Never seen so many Rudes on one kit before 😳
Now that's commitment!
I had all Rudes on my kit in 1983 but not that many. I had the sound edge equivalent Hi hats and they are responsible for the hearing loss in my left ear LOL,, LOUD!!
@@leedurham8625 Yeah I use sound edge hats too but mine are in the '2002' flavour
Two of my three favorite drummers of all time, Benante and Vinnie, along with Portnoy
Yes 🤘🤘🤘
Vinnie laid down such a powerful groove - Charlie you did him justice
That drum kit is amazing 🤘
Awesome performance by Charlie!
Pantera is só good, can´t stop hanging my head here...
I like the chokes on the crash cymbals. Nice touch!
One of the most important songs of my teens. The good ol'days.
Saw them play this back in August right after the Cemetery Gates intro and this has always been one of my favorite Pantera songs, so you could imagine how excited I was lol
He is CRUSHING those drums
Those reflections are great
Thank you Drumeo. Just thank you
Nice detail with those red drum beaters to honor Vinnie's legacy
3:54 best of all, excellent work
Vinnie is playing along with you Charlie. Insane accuracy
Love his drumming on Persistence of Time
Killed it Charlie 🤘🏻 Long live Vinnie Paul!
Charlie slaying as usual!
The brick wall has some mighty big shoes to fill...good job Charlie!
Love the ‘it’s a small world after all’ factor I have with this guy (or six degrees of Kevin Bacon, if you prefer).
Met him at a signing at Vics Drum Shop, only to realize later that I had been teaching his daughter’s classmate private drum lessons for about five years…. *shrugs
Dope Rudes
Vinnie is raising his glass of whiskey from Heaven right now. This is badass!
All validated for me. That is the great impression he left me with when they raided Hellfest in 2022.
Charlie is almost 62 but looks and plays like someone half that age. That rock solid beat fantastic. There's something about riffing on a basic pattern that's always impressive.
That snare !!!!! Yesssss !
That performance was badass
Every metal drummer frome 1983-1997 needs a raise.
Awesome!!!! If i close my eyes you are Vinnie!! Love It!!
3:55 the way he mutes that cymbal and grooves so tightly with the riff is just tasty
Just hopped over from Insta to watch this 👌🏻🤘🏻
twin peaks¡¡¡ my favourite metal band¡¡¡
just perfect, the sound is amazing ¡
Love seeing just play it as it should be
See you in Oslo i January, Charlie! Right man for the job.
He's doing such a great job playing Vinnie's parts. It's rare to see such an established artist completely remove himself from the performance in order to pay tribute to such a drumming beast that was the late Vinnie Paul. I was very skeptical about seeing them live, they're such an iconic band, Pantera, so much personality in each instrument, and I didn't believe they could replicate that sound. I was glad to find out that Charlie was being so fateful, every nuance was there, it was incredible. When you hear a band so much, you notice everything.. Unfortunately, it didn't look like Zakk tried as hard..
Soooooo good
Groove metal drumming to the core
Definitely a Double Aluminum song right their, wow.
Wow... Perfection. Just like Vinnie.
I like the video description ".....is known for its crushing groove and aggressive riffs." I believe that's most...if not ALL...Pantera songs.
man that cymbal choke on the breakdown at the end is so tasty
