He honors the legacy by replicating Vinnie's nuances so precisely, keeping the beats and tone spot on, to the point where you can close your eyes and feel like you're hearing the original. It’s clear that Charlie has immense respect for the music and wants the fans to experience it just as they remember. His dedication and attention to detail are unmatched!

Met Charlie last year in Prague and he is one of the most humble dudes to grace the metal scene. He actually introduced himself as Charlie like I wouldn’t know he was - we also joked about his ‘side project’ Anthrax. Legend

Vinnie paul was a great composer. Everything is in the right place here,no unnecessary virtuosism,every drum beat and passage is musically perfect and complementary to the rest of the instruments and the song in general
^This100% I’ve said this to people for years and why he’s one of the greats of metal drummers. Vinnie absolutely had the technical chops but he was never about dazzle…….everything he played served the music and went perfectly with what the band wanted to convey.
It's just could never have been anyone else. Those songs are so unique. Pantera make it sound like so much more than just drums bass guitar and vocals , it's crazy.
Watching someone actually play this rather than just listening to it you can really appreciate how slow it is, how it’s able to breath in a way, almost like it’s biding its time. Amazing work!
Saw him play with Pantera. Been a fan for decades and I can honestly say Charlie Benante nailed it perfectly. Vinnie would be proud. Very grateful for allowing me to see Pantera live. R.I.P brothers Abbot.
This is probably my favorite Pantera song ever made. For me, it embodies everything that makes them great: the grooves, the power, the songwriting, the lyrics, the musicianship. The best example of groove metal! Extremely powerful, hard hitting, yet has swing! It even allows for each band member to showcase their skills as individuals, yet comes together as a cohesive whole.

Charlie is indeed an outstanding professional. His experience with Anthrax made him consolidate as one of the best hard rock drummers the U.S. has ever had. And that's why I think he's the perfect fit to work with Pantera.

So clean! He did a clinic as a local music store when I was 16yrs. He was maybe the loudest drummer I ever heard! And not overplaying. Just like he is here,every hit solid & clean! He also did the double bass part from 'Skeletons in the closet'. I immediately bought the Camco double pedal that day!!
Woah , F-ing Woah , been air drumming to Pantera my hole life , that was 110% spot on. I've heard the recent live performances but the stadium recordings and all the room delays and slap back don't do his playing justice. That was amazing , and also amazing to see just how great a drum part that really is , so many important little peices but all tied into a deep groove so far back in the pocket you will fall off your seat. 5 stars Charlie, please do some more Drumeo.
i love the sound of microphones on all the drums, and a wicked kit ....that was in the pocket. some drummers think its impressive to play fast...i enjoy listening to drummers like charlie who can sit back and mesh perfectly w the sound of the band. this was great

There was an energy and a youthful playfulness that isn’t there anymore. No one will ever replace the Abbot’s. Ever. But you would never have Pantera without Rex and Phil. Never. Damageplan was awesome but it wasn’t Pantera. We all know it. Phil is someone who’s had a lot of issues in his life. I’m sure he’s haunted by a lot of regrets. But he moved on. And so should we. The fact you’re saying that Charlie and Zakk are stepping on graves IS the reason why I said this is no easy gig for them. But unlike you and me, they actually knew the Brothers. this man is an experienced studio gun. you earn that amount of professional attitude, you dont just "discover" it. there is a considerable amount of humility in this. he was tasked to perform 5 minutes and thats exactly what he gave to them. no slacking, no pompous masturbation - exact pocket 100% as it was.
I'll give it to him, he really hits the hrrgh out of those drums. I saw Vinny live with Hellyeah, and it was astounding how violently he played, and it's good to see the new Pantera got someone who understate that part of the sound is just slamming.
Saw them play this back in August right after the Cemetery Gates intro and this has always been one of my favorite Pantera songs, so you could imagine how excited I was lol

I respect that he plays the drum parts so accurately to what vinnie played, and I respect the similarity of the kit itself to Vinnies.
Perfect example of how to make things sound simple to work with the song, but have enough nuance to keep it interesting. Great dummer.
