Get ready for a Celtic soul celebration this St. Patrick's Day as Too-Rye-Ay performs the music of Dexys Midnight Runners. Best known in America for "Come on Eileen" -- #18 in VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 1980s -- Dexys was revered in the U.K. for their punk-infused-soul music, distinctive fashion sense, and leader Kevin Rowland's unique lyrical perspective.
Too-Rye-Ay will perform two sets, featuring smash hits and deep cuts from Dexys' late '70s/early '80s albums and singles. The band features members of Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Gramercy Arms, Elk City, and Nova Social:
Adrienne Berry - tenor saxophone
Anthony Cekay - alto saxophone
Claudia Chopek - violin
Therese Cox - accordion
Dave Derby - bass
Richard Alwyn Fisher - guitar
Tom Gavin - banjo/guitars
Ray Ketchem - drums
Sam Kulik - trombone
Ted Leo - vocals
David Nagler - keyboards
God Bless Ted
My favorite all time song, and this was the best cover, period! "These people 'round here, wear beaten down eyes, broken smoke-dried faces, so resigned to what their fate is." Best lyric ever!
And it's still true today.
It’s actually “beat-down eyes sunk in some dried faces”
@@edgarbraintree4370 Oh, thanks. So, I guess they didn't really "smoke-dry" their faces! :)
@@haroldlaetsch9848 DAMN , that was a typo in my comment . It’s “wear beat-down eyes sunk in smoke-dried faces “ . Don’t worry , I proofread it before posting this time
@@edgarbraintree4370 Thanks, but you could always blame it on auto-correct!
Wow.
What an incredible vibe you guys create! Wish I could have been there, true to the original - immaculate cover.
WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE!! TOO-RA LOO-RA AAA..... 🎶👍👦👍🎶
must of watched this 20 times already, absolutely love it and the girls are absolutely awesome.
lead vocal is a little weak.more yelling than singing...band nailed it !
recuerdo extraordinario de mi niñez, cuando escuche por primera vez me gustó muchísimo el ritmo los instrumentos.....!!! desde Venezuela América del Sur...
Dat violin......the banjo.... everyone was just well in sync to keep the vibe rolling along. Lovely band.
Wow Kevin Roland would be proud of that tribute ...spot on ..the best I have heard ...
At the 1:18 mark, the song starts. Nice cover of the now 40 year old classic. I love the sound of the violinist/fiddle. So neat to see the often non-seen brass section performing. This is truly a faithful live cover.
I think the violinist is Claudia Chopek.
Looks like so much Fun!! Perfect song to get people going.....Love this!
Love this cover
They are so good great vibe
💕💕💕💕👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💖💖💖
Great energy and showmanship!
MORE people need to see this... BEST COVER I have ever seen of Come On Eileen. Would love for you guys not to have to use the music sheets but really this is so true to Dexys WELL DONE!!!
Music sheets? Really..probably 99% of the music you enjoy came from a music sheet.
@@jdblack9120 eh not that much but most artists memorize their parts on stage a lot of rock artists don't even know how to read sheet music
Tbh reading off music live is alot more professional and fail proof
Wow this is an amazing cover !!! I wish I was there :)
This was absolutely brilliant 😃
The most important thing to look for when browsing for a Dexy's cover is a horn section... see that and plug your ears while running away.
Thank you fir this:-)
Claudia Chopek was in 2023 on feminine devinine-Tour with Dexys in GB and Europe
Thank you for this incredibale Party-Version.
wow what a performance. excellent cover
Q temaso Q recuerdos
Well Done!! Love It!!!👏
like a fine wine, ted leo gets better with age
Amazing!!!!!!
No words!!!!! Very good!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the Irish!
Dexys Midnight Runners the band who did this originally were from Birmingham originally fronted by Kevin Rowland whose parents were Irish great original band check out their other stuff.
Thanks Gary!
No problem fella these guys do a very good version of a great song I'd go and see them too if they toured the UK you can't beat Dexys Midnight Runners they made some quality music back in the 80's this song is played at every birthday party, wedding, anniversary celebration as everyone all ages gets up on the dancefloor doing their thing.
Great job!
Man that fiddle player, she is on point with this song.
Loooooove it!
Love this.here in 2021
Awesome ❤
Come on guys. Let's bring the house down.
Clásico de clásicos. Que ritmo.
Simplesmente brilhantes....
Que sensacionaaaaaaaaaal
GOLD
Wish I was there
🤩Hammer Cover!
The violin player is Hot!
Cluadia Chopek
She's also very good.
@ballen Yeah she's on point with this song. Really good violinist..
Haha what a great crowd!
Buen cover
Wish i had the red headed guys enthusiasm!!
UN CLASICO ....
Super good...but learn the lyrics!
The girl in the white top just have alot of Irish blood!
Where is my Eileen?😢
Steg went off
What is there to learn. The lyrics are o.k.the music cool if one can't remember would have had a sad time.it's about Speed.Dexetrin a powerfull drug up the nose crushed.not helpful at all.but watching the video is fun.memories along.what a time! Love Karin
This was a great cover but I don’t think the lead singer knew a lot of the words and this song was too high for him
u can see him looking down at sheet music lol but still did good
l
White people love this song so much it’s our jam
It sucks when others sing you can't hear Ted
I kind of wish the crowd would shut up for a little bit or at least be quieter
Almost untolerable with the bouncing accordian
I thought he said the sax player's name was f.u.c.k.
Well, that was really some night... great buy in by all the musicians... and a great cover of a great song!...
Here's Sugerland's cover which is also great... th-cam.com/video/TMDqkBjvdMg/w-d-xo.html
I still have dirty thoughts about Eileen...
how doesn't the singer know the words hah
just posted the same thing!
In all fairness the words are quite difficult. Most listeners do not even (after 40 years) know them without reading them.
@@dondee5439 it’s a dexys cover band! And their most popular song... The words aren’t that hard…
Not bad at all..
You went beyond all out and it sounds great! How can the lead singer not know the words?? Sorry to bring this up but he's reading the chorus. Rock on!
The violinist is the show. But not in this video.
This violinist is great. She is doing the part of two or three violinist from the original.
Lead singer struggling for range there
GREAT GREAT cover. However, a bit of a problem when the lead singer doesn't know the words!!! Get professional man. Downunder South Australia
This is not good
Superb!
