This song brings on waves of nostalgia for what was a pretty good time in my life.
My first time in the UK. I walked into a pub and this song was playing. Everyone was singing and dancing. I'll never forget that night. Puts a smile on my face every time I hear this one.

Summer 1982 in a caravan in Caister, I was 13 not ole enough to go the holiday site disco. This amazing song was played it felt like on repeat. Jesus, I wanted to be in that disco, who was Eileen, what was too rye aye, why those clothes? The genius of it all, thank you Kevin.
I hope it was the Silver Sands in Caister where I spent many a happy childhood holiday

I think Kevin's voice sounds remarkably good given his problems over the years. But I saw the whole show on Sky Arts and it's a mystery where the bass is coming from. Surely it can't be all keyboard guy Mike Timothy's left hand? Also, why have Jim Paterson and Steve Read swapped their usual brass instruments? Could it possibly be (lowers voice to a whisper) not entirely live...?
I think we can conclude that there were some recorded backing tracks involved in this performance. I read somewhere that the cancelled 'Too Rye Aye' tour from last year would have only involved KR and 3 other musicians on stage, so it would definitely have needed augmentation from backing tracks if it was to be anything other than basically an acoustic show. Jim Patterson wasn't present at the Sky Arts show. Sean Read was on sax/keyboard and I didn't recognise the trombone player but the credits identified him as Alistair White. I looked him up and he's basically a session musician but a very successful one - it seems he's the 'go to guy' for the top acts who need a trombonist, i.e. Clapton, Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin, Kylie, Weller and many more listed on his website.
@@golactico1178 Good info, thanks. Something similar must have been happening when I saw Dexys live back in 2012 (with Mick Talbot on keys and Madeleine Hyland as the femme fatale). Only one violin on stage but sounded like a small string section.
Would of been at the Liverpool philharmonic gig if I'd not dumped my x he is crew boss for a stage crew in Liverpool and North West England
