    I kept hearing popping and loud crack sound on left side so I changed upper ball joint which did help a lot but the popping and cracking still there.. super annoying, kept going under my truck to move things around and couldn't figure it out. Finally got the answer today, moved my CV axle up and down after jacking it up and clunk/pop over and over..and this video does help to see how easy it is to do hope that info helps people that get that same problem.

      Was the noise mainly when you initially accelerated? I’m trying to diagnose a clunk sound that only happens on acceleration when load is initially taken off the front end...

      I'm working on my 2005 sierra 1500 5.8, when i turn left or right sharply, i get this clunking sound. The sharper I turn the harder it gets. I think its the CV Joints. Im gonna start there anyway. It super annoying and pretty loud. But only when I turn too sharp.

    Great Demo. Help me get my job done. The only difference on my 2002 Chevy Suburban 2500, there wasn't really a traditional nut on the top of the stabilizer link, it was more like a flat washer with a threaded sleeve. Just used vice-grips to hold it on the edges while I unscrewed the bolt. Thanks for the video, keep 'em coming.

    Thanks very much for this video!! I had to do this repair on my 2003 GMC Yukon Denali today and your video saved me a huge headache. I recently did the same thing on a Subaru Forester and that was much more labor intensive, so I was under the impression that the GMC would be as bad or worse. Today's work only took an hour and a half (I'm not a mechanic by trade).

    @STREETRACEN4U 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    thanks this video worked out great. Guys if your truck is from the north it will not take you 20 minutes each side i spent 2 hours total on the job which still isn't bad and also it was my first time so i'm sure next time will be faster. The part that took the longest for me was keeping the CV axle from spinning while i loosened the bolts i used a pipe wrench on the driver side and that worked but the passenger side i had to use a pry bar and wedge it between the frame and the "ears" of the axle on the inside part where the 6 bolts are just to make sure it didnt spin and that worked out great. this isn't hard to do. also I took out the bottom bolt of the shock and pushed it out the way and was able to get the axle out that way vs messing with the sway links.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Normally you can tell a CV joint is bad when it has a lot of inside play. The issue could also be the Differential bearings inside the axle itself. Removing the front cover will give you a good idea of what is going on internally.

  • @spelunkerd
    @spelunkerd 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a great idea to use chalk to know which bolts you've torqued -- a simple solution to a common annoying problem. Another excellent video by 1A Auto, Mike.

  • @1AAuto

    The step by step is the most thourogh i've seen! Thanks for making these videos.
    Would this video be comparable to changing out the CV joints on a 2000 Jimmy 4x4?

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Respond to this video... Currently we do not have a repair video that shows you how to remove the axle shafts on a 2000 Jimmy. Usually on a job such as that, you would need to remove the wheels, brakes and calipers, take the cotter pin out of the retaining nut that holds the Axel into position. Once the nut is removed, you should be able to tap the axel at the end once with a hammer to break it free. The you should be able to remove it from the transmission.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There could be several things going on which could include the springs, wheel bearings, or something to do with the sway bar links.

  • @the4thj
    @the4thj 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    This will give you the 1/4" that is needed to take the axle out, and in with the new one (need to go forward w/ axle). A jack and stand-(support frame) will be needed as you will have to move the suspended side up and down to get axle out and in. This video shows him easily taking the axle out, but notice his axle has 5 1/4 moons between the bolts, K1500's are all round. Impacts are a MUST!

    !For 1997 K1500 Sierra, I preformed on my, pickup 2X. DON'T take out the stabilizer link (sway bar), instead take out the shock absorber, and disconnect the tie-rod from the steering knuckle (I think that's what it's called?) you may have to use a tie-rod separator to get them apart...

    Yes, the bolts should be torqued to their proper torque settings. You can do this in your driveway at home. A breaker bar will help to break the rusty bolts free. harborfreight com has a really nice 25" one that I've purchased for $10.99, that will make the job easier to do. Hope this helps you out. Is the procedure the same for a 1500 Yukon? Or do you have to remove the hub?

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should torque that nut at the correct torque setting. It's a matter of safety, and your hub bearings may wear prematurely if the nut isn't torqued right. HarborFreightcom carry's decent tools that do not cost a great deal of money. You might want to see what they have. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

      HI Kelly,
      They may cause a vibration. If you can move them by hand, or if they seem like there's play in them then they should be replaced. You may also want to check the sway bar end links, to see if they're worn and they may cause a shake in the wheel at higher speeds. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    How can you tell the difference between a bad front differential and/or it's bearings and a bad CV joint? I've had a low growl that gets worse with speed. I've replaced both front HUB assemblies and taken out both CV's, but they don't feel bad. If you're holding one in your hands, how can you tell one is bad?

    Do you need to take the stabilizer link out in order to pull the axle out? It almost seems like once it is dropped on one end it pulls right out

    They should be similar. You should be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to your application. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    • @1AAuto

      +Ben Dog Yes it should be 35MM. We carry the replacement axle shafts shown in this video on our website. Here's a link to them www.1aauto.com/1A/Axleshaft/Chevy/Silverado/1AACS00008?TH-cam&CTA%20Comment&

      We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular application. It may be a little different than the one shown in the video. We do carry replacement axles on our website with FREE SHIPPING in the lower 48 states. Here's a link to the 1996 K2500 axles if you would like to see what we carry. Hope this helps you out. www.1aauto.com/1A/axles-and-axleshafts/Chevy/K2500-Truck/-/-/1996?VideoReply&TH-cam&ATony

    hi nice vid quick question my cv joint is done so i cant use the lugs to hold it still to remove the nuts on the axle would it work if i just put it in 4 wheel drive would that hold it?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may be able to use a pipe wrench on the axle, to hold it in place so that you can break the nuts free. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    did this repair and 1 of the 6 flange bolts broke as I was tightening them. Checked you website (and others), no one seems to have a listing/category for these bolts (cv bolt, cv axle bolt, half axle bolt, flange bolt, etc.). is there a size and specific material required for the bolts? Is my truck safe to drive with just 5 of the bolts holding the axle?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Samuel Karabaich I am sorry to hear that happened! We do not recommend you drive the vehicle with a missing axle bolt. That is most likely going to be a dealer part, so you may want to give them a call to see if you can get one. 1aauto.com

    Do you have to have both wheels off the ground or can you jack up one side of the truck?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be easier to lift the front of the vehicle off of the ground. You may be able to lift the side you need to replace off of the ground. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
