Nice to see a James match. There are surprisingly few of them on TH-cam, considering how good a player he was. You wouldn't happen to have his quarter-final match against Thorburn in 1988 would you? He almost made a 147 in that match, but came short on the last red to the middle and had to try potting it into the yellow pocket to get back for the black. It was a pretty big deal at the time, because I don't think anyone else had come that close since Thorburn's in 83. There was so little snooker on Canadian TV back then and I taped the few frames of that match that were shown. Watched that frame so many times, I practically memorized Clive Everton's commentary: "The Demon Potter of Seville" (Thorburn's description of James at the time.) Would love to see that match again, but this time in its entirety. Anyway, thanks for these great uploads.
@@mjt_snooker1704 No worries. I just rechecked on Wikipedia, and I got my matches mixed up. The 147 attempt by James was in his first-round win over Rex Williams. He also made a 140 in that match. Canadian TV just showed certain frames from different matches in its highlight packages, which is probably why I remembered it incorrectly. Cheers:)

Thanks for this upload I remember watching this back in 1990 at the time I remember Steve James losing that 2nd session 6-2 to fall 11-5 down I was feeling well gutted for him though I used to be a steve Davis fan before that match.

Hey guys, i've followed your channel several years and would say that I couldn't find words to express my appreciation since it was so hard to look for these old VHS and old matches. Not many people have them and neither did they want to upload them. I have some 90s and early 2000s match bits got throughout the years via friends/internet which no longer preserve them. People claiming Robidoux winning 7 frames in the first round was incredible. How was Neil Foulds suddenly ranked world number 30 when a year earlier he was world number 3? Did they deduct a shed load of ranking points off him or something?
He didnt have the best of seasons, there was only 6 or 7 ranking tournaments in them days. He did get back into the top 16 the next season. He would go onto win the scottish masters and the 1992 pot black tournament.
I remember in around 1988 he got some bad press in the tabloids regarding taking prescription beta-blockers for some sort of heart complaint.....the bad press affected his game understandably for a couple of years,hence his nose-dive down the rankings, it would only have been in 1990 his game started to get back to somewhere were it should have been
@@peterwatters6633 Indeed correct Peter, as he was suffering from a very fast heart rate. In my opinion he was scapegoated by those in charge, and humiliated by the press. However he did pick himself up, and wasnt afraid to defend himself. Infact looking at the size of him these days, I wouldnt like to get on the wrong side of him.

James was a really great player to watch. Often capable of something a bit special.
