The thing that gets me (apart from the issues already raised) is how the philanthropic activity is framed. We do not need more “awareness” raised, the importance of mental health has made a huge splash over the past decade, what we need is solutions to the issues that are exacerbating mental health. Solutions that in-part could be provided by the government (improved healthcare, reducing the wealth gap etc) and paid for by taxation…
Yeah, its mostly based around awareness, theres no planned infrastructure for them to do much more than pass on money to other charities. Its obviously a good thing that they raised a lot of money, but I dont get why it couldnt either be a partnership or like a vote where customers could vote out of a set of 3 or 5 where their 1% would go
Yeah but a lot of these celebs love to virtue signal. It's like politicians who cry about school sh--tings and g-- violence but bring zero solutions to the table. People, in my opinion, don't want to solve problems. Problems that are solved don't create buzz and don't make money
@@CrustyUgg yesss! I absolutely refuse to believe that we don't have a cure for cancer yet! Why? Because if there was a cure, the multi billions of dollars they receive to fund said cure would go away! The hype is and always will be, about the problem
More taxation?? How about strengthening traditional moral values It’s helped before , it can help again The extremely rich will escape all the wealth gap reduction and taxation like they always do It will be up to the average people to pick up the pieces , so moral values are a more effective and less expensive solution
Selena always had a very active marketing team. Her drug addiction or alcoholism is no where to be found on the internet. She has been given a squeaky clean image, as the golden girl, the victim, the girl who got cheated.
If she was a heavy drug addict and alcoholic she WOULD BE DEAD- she as an autoimmune disease, if she is sabotaging her health to that extent not only would it be TRANSPARENT to see but she would NEVER BE ABLE TO HIDE IT as she would ALREADY BE DEAD. It’s not a PR team that’s supporting her, it’s common sense and a basic health understanding. There is a reason why this rhetoric is only supported by hate accounts like ESMG & Shallon Lester - where all medical basis is completely ignored.
Ok she drinks, but she's not an alcoholic, and this channel just brushing over that in favor for a dry statement about her prs team doing good for her is irresponsible because any of this goes beyond her makeup brand, and y'all don't know her personally or if of the things you are saying is 100% without a shadow of a doubt true, but how many countless celebrities do things on camera or in public that people disregard or act as if didn't happen, I mean Ariana licked a donut she didn't purchase, snapped at the lady working behind the counter and literally said she hates America, and actually said out of her own mouth she hopes her fans die after signing their autographs but NO BODY EVEN MENTIONS THAT.
@@AlexousTyKeishaCanSingAndRapshe’s not an alcoholic? Then why did she go to a drugs and alcoholic rehab center? No one mentions Ariana because this video isn’t about Ariana tf.
This. With the rise of Sofia Richie I was reminded of how Selena referred to Sofia when the latter was dating Justin Bieber. It wasn’t very nice. Yet she’s always saintly and perfect in her biased fans’ eyes
i can't believe that more people aren't talking abt how sketchy the whole charity front is, especially when rare beauty's whole marketing strategy is to appear trustworthy and genuine in their mental health "activism."
We don’t need more “awareness”…we need more funding for high quality mental health services for all. Thank you for taking the time to produce such an eye opening video about how (most) celebrity brands probably operate behind closed doors.
It certainly would be better if more than 1% went towards charity - or if they were raising awareness for something that socially doesnt have enough like AIDS which people know exist but dont seem to know a lot about, Cystic Fibrosis or even perhaps a specific mental health issue like OCD which again people seem to know exists but dont know a lot about. Just saying ‘mental health’ is suspiciously broad, and as you say, high quality mental health services are more certainly needed, which imo would be aided by not being so broad and to target certain issues. Idk if most celebrity brands work this way, I dont have the statistics, but I always approach charities with caution, celebrity or not, as a lot can be hidden behind a charitable front.
@@Bayysideawareness is great but without solutions it’s lazy. I’m tired of a IG post about mental health being so applauded. Then they think solutions are giving to these high end charities where the CEO makes millions of dollars a year. What about giving to community based organizations that serve poor communities and rely on crappy government funding?
right, people in power positions and status need to financially support these causes instead of talking about awareness, but it's greed at the end of the day@@kennethiavail1719
Even as a Rihanna fan and not a Selena one, as someone with dry combo skin and who prefers a more natural glowy look i like Rares line more than Fentys but that charity thing is pretty shady
Wow this is pretty shocking! They definitely have a very curated image of doing good and positivity, all the names of the shades are very positive and empowering even. Very interesting! I agree with your point, why not just partner with an already established charity that’s already got the contacts and doing the good
Yes, its really unnecessary for them to have started this 'project'. It seems like its purely for PR because of the very low 1% donated to the project, which of course pays its employees with that, so then it begs the question of how much is left
This is some investigative journalism.👏🏼 Tbh I bought her blush because I like the packaging concept and the product color/quality was great. That came before knowing that Rare Beauty is her brand, it's a smart move as I see celebrity product as lower quality and didn't realize that from the beginning. The raising awareness and charity was news to me, and purely marketing BS.😂 Personally, i just feel that Selena has been exploiting mental health/disability since 13RW, but her image is too strong.
I only bought this brand once her own makeup artist, Hung Vango, used it on his TH-cam channel. I had 0 awareness of the brand launching with all the mental health tie-in. I actually really like this brand for the products themselves.
I also suffer with chronic illness and autoimmune. The packaging choices she made were to be easily opened and grasped by those with arthiritis and grip issues. In a world where mostly healthy people are featured, its nice to have a brand that caters to the needs of its customer base. Im not even 40 yet but struggle with packaging, so her brand was a godsend. 4:13
@@smushles19 definitely not confirmed / brand said they would have to proper testing to be able to make those claims but would consider it for the future
There’s some evidence that Selena does not have lupus, and that it was a PR story to cover up her going to rehab for heroin addiction while she was still working for Disney.
@@Bayysidemost of these celebrities are lazy including her. There’s so much that can be done in poor and low-income communities that rely on horrible government funding but I don’t see anyone partnering with them. If she and other celebs actually wanted to help they would truly give and not to these high end charities where the CEO where’s a suit but to places in rural poor areas. I don’t doubt Selena has been through a lot but her brand is focused on being the sweet victim.
I think this brand will fall when her image has- and it has now to most people with her supporting Isreal because she liked Amy Schumer's post (I think it was Schumer?). Ive seen people do "makeup brands to boycot" tiktoks that also listed Rare Beauty.
People who are starting a company/business are doing it to make money. That's their main goal and objective. No one is going to give away a ton of money without making way more first.
Well that depends, there are really a lot of companies that give their profits to charity, theres not for profit companies, and even a lot of companies that share profits with employees (even in Englajd we have one thats a supermarket called Waitrose that has every employee as part of a partnership programme). So theres definitely other ways to run a business if they wanted to
Rare and fenty are the only celeb brands that became established imo because of their quality. Florence, rem etc don't seem to deliver on the other end
I disagree with your thoughts that there isn’t much quality and the quality of the product wasn’t advertised. Those blushes are some of my favorite blushes I’ve tried. The pigmentation it’s so easy to work with and blend. The liquid and powder highlighters are stunning. I like the eyeliner too.
They have a decent quality, its just that thats not really a differentiator these days, there are swathes of well made products. Its hard to genuinely stand out with product quality alone
to be fair i bought the blushes of rare beauty without knowing it was a celebrity brand and the products are good quality i tried alot of blushes but the rare blushes are the best. After the blushes i bought diffrent products and i really love the 'light make up' philosophy. I love your videos btw very informative.
They are difficult to use, not beginner friendly. I mean liquid ones. Sure, they will last you a life time, but not for me. And out of the lip oils, never ever got them even on my extradry lips. So, I will give one more chance with the mascara and brow products, but that's it. On the other hand, love Lady Gaga's line and a lot of Fenty stuff, easy drops, how many carat highligter (I use that as an eyeshadow) and gloss, the best gloss ever. But as for blushes, there are so many non celebrity, georgeous products out there.
Selena had her kidney transplant in 2017 not 2018 Edit: watch out because Selena fandom go crazy when your not talking about her in a positive light, even if it constructive criticism
I didn’t know they had a charity aspect or they that it was shady. In my opinion i think that any charity, esp a celebrity, one should always be as transparent as possible and communicate how they are handling their money. People motivated by this kind of branding deserve to know where that money is going.
Unfortunately charities and churches are not required nor expected to be transparent at all and so thats why so many of these shell companies register that way. But I agree we should know more about where our money is going because putting it towards the *promise* of it *going towards* helping *raise awareness* is particularly vague
They’re not doing anything for people with mental health issues. Awareness is cheap. Tell us where the money is actually going! If she wants to put her money where her mouth is and make a difference, fund mental healthcare. Donate to hospitals, rehabs, yoga studios, massage centres, schools, etc Otherwise just stick to the makeup
Selena can be rather naive at times, but no one can deny that she has been an active philanthropist since she was a child actress. It's hard for me to find malicious intent from Selena directly with this decision. I suspect she wasn't required to be nose-deep into the specifics of the financial decisions for her brand, just like she isn't required to be up in the lab. I like to believe she is authentic with her purpose, because other than this I can't think of another incident of potential hypocrisy. Now her handlers and the people making money off of her...that's who I'm suspicious about and believe they are a part of the decision making process.
She is the most shady , drama queen celebrity with the mkst toxic hateful fanbase that she is constantly (or her friends, cousin's spouse, etc) nurturing.
This is exactly what she wants you think about her. I mean look at her tweets from back, she’s a really bad person. Weather it’s her holier than thou attitude, weather it’s her attacking every women who breaths around Justin beiber and sending her fans to attack them, or her blm comments.
This is a really well thought and explained video. Really enjoyed it. My only issue is how "lobbying" is framed (everywhere in the media, not only in your video). Lobbying is not a bad thing on its own, the world wouldn't really be functioning without it. Lobbying has been existing for centuries and one of its main advantages is that it brings to the attention of legislators some important issues raised by certain "interest groups". Moreover, oftentimes politicians & legislators aren't familiar with the technicalities involved in EVERY SINGLE SECTOR they write laws upon (think laws on the aviation industry, pollution, house construction...) - but people that know that sector can further clarify doubts. Lobbying is legal and useful - of course, this does not mean there aren't people who can and will take advantage of it for personal gain, that is not what I want to say. I just want to put out there that lobbying is not inherently bad, even if it does have a bad connotation.
My point isnt necessarily that lobbying is bad, its that masquerading as a charity when your not is unethical. You're right lobbying gets a bad reputation though and perhaps thats why these companies have started presenting as other kinds of businesses, not that that makes that any more ethical
Most of the times, lobbying has caused unfair advantage especially when there are bussiness bids, or financial fundings done by state. I can tell from one family member that works with pharmaceutical and medical stuff, sometimes big as CT scanners.
I really appreciate how you break down the company, structure of rare beauty and how that contrasts with the marketing. I’m a bit cynical when it comes to celebrity-founded a charitable organizations. Most of the time it’s almost never necessary for a celebrity to start their own charity to advocate for some thing that has a lot of charitable organizations within that space. Perhaps they want to have more control over how the funds are managed and how the mission statement is maintained. However, her company’s relationship is Hopewell is rather convoluted. I don’t believe that this is something she came up with all by herself. It must’ve been some thing suggested to her by her business partners, but I still find it odd that she agreed to do this. Hopefully it won’t blow up in her face. People really do seem to love the products and her fans are quite dedicated to her. I am very curious to see how this company will continue to evolve.
I also am a fan of Selena, so I hope it doesn’t blow up on her face, but, she is now in business with some incredibly powerful people, so it’s more likely that she will be their scapegoat than they will be hers, if that makes sense. Maybe we will see a saveselena hashtag if it comes to that
Most causes are brought to celebrities. It really does not matter. The important part is that they back up a cause. The products that are so much better than Rhode and Kylie’s.
Oh my gosh! I love your videos, you dive so deep no matter the topic: fasion or even lobbying. I always expect a good quality analisys kn your videos and get even more than that.
I get that, as you say, a brand needs a "special" something to stand out. But why oh why didn't she just make it into a legitimate make-up brand? I get that Selena prob means well with the raising awareness of mental health issues and stuff, bcs it is personal to her. But girl is literally one of the biggest celeb that came out of early 2000s, WITHOUT Kardiashian rep! Even without the mental awareness & charity PR, I'm sure her super loyal fans would support it, esp with the inclusive shade range (oh and the shade range is already a plus point). It's kinda sad bcs the RB product IS good (in comparison to others in the industry)

Im completely the same as you in regards to Selenas presence in my life, and I really see what you mean about the money. 1% is certainly better than nothing
Great work! You've opened up a whole can of worms with this topic. How many corporations do this? (NFL breast cancer alliance comes to mind.) A little off topic but Paul Newman's food might of been one of the first companies that saw the alchemy of combining celebrity to charity to common place products that made a staggering amount of money. They were advertised as funding children's cancer camps and the like but ended up funding his politic pet causes as well. He many have been an early prototype.
Unfortunately I think its very common for all kinds of wealthy people to different have ways to bypass taxes (I mean the whole art market runs on it) and realistically corporations are a bigger problem then a few wealthy people. That or the unwillingness for govs to adapt laws that allow for these grey areas because they also benefit from them. Theyre not doing anything illegal, because wealthy people can afford to manipulate work arounds and they know it. Its frustrating, but Im not really sure what we can do to help unless it becomes a bigger issue, its known, of course it is, but I guess its just not a huge issue because it ‘only’ hurts the tax man and doesnt directly hurt individuals (though it does indirectly)
I love this brand and am shocked by this video bc I thought there was finally a celeb brand that was selling quality products & doing good for others but wow 😢

There just seems to be something fundamentally incongruent with the idea of connecting stable mental health with something as demonstrably superficial as perceived physical beauty. To my mind at least it's a complete nonstarter and just brings into question the real motivation behind creating such a connection in the first place.
It could be who actually owns the company fully is who linked up with that shady fund… Selena probably has no say so in the business side of “her” company

Exactly! Unlike Rihanna, Selena made herself! her story! And her illness, the core of her business! Which in turn linked her directly with her brand! Which is a huge mistake! Meanwhile, Rihanna launched fenty without linking the brand with her! Even though Rihanna is the face of her business, Fenty somehow managed to still operate independently away from Rihanna's fame! Rare beauty is dependent on how long Selena can continue to stay relevant and continue to garner her fans sympathy, you can't make a business sustainable by relying on fan's sympathy! At one point, even if they like Selena and are huge fans of her, they will get tired of her constant sob story, and eventually, they will drop her brand! There is a reason why people are still buying Fenty while other celebrity brands are flopping! The quality of Rihanna's Fenty brand is superior to many other celebrity brands, including Rare Beauty! Even last year, Rihanna's fenty beauty doubled its revenue! So I don't think Rihanna's fenty beauty has fallen like some people claim! in fact, they are doing better than ever! and regarding her charity, yeah I find it weird and disturbing that Selena herself is not in control of her own charity foundation, and that she partner with such a shady company! there is definitely something dark going on with her charity!
I feel like Fenty could continue with a different face. Like if tomorrow they announced Ice Spice as the face of Fenty and said Rihanna would pass the torch but still stay connected, I would believe that and understand. Perhaps Rare could do that too, but it would be a harder transition for sure
@@underskinYT yes! And that's the beauty of fenty! like you said, Rihanna made it possible for her company to survive, even if she is not the face of Fenty! I don't agree. Just like rare does now, fenty was always promoting their stuff with the face of the brand. Rare needs to do better promotion with influencer ambassadors for sure, but saying fenty wasn't linked with rihanna is pathetic, because it is mainly successful because of her. Just look at fenty's youtube, they are promoting their products by recreating rihanna's makeup looks smh
@@en2186 true. And to be honest, they will be alright I guess. As long as the products are great quality and not overpriced. It can be linked to whoever as long as the face of the brand is not in negative scandals
I really liked them for their color selection. The shades of the blushes felt very natural. They where able to form a rounded out collection with running shades in each color family and kept everything at a low price, relative to Sephora pricing. That being said I realized, like many people, the blushes are very over powering and fade. One dot is not enough but two is too much. I tried some of the lip products and they are good but the market is so saturated, there are cheaper alternatives. Their perfume was a nice 'anti-perfume' but I saw it is filled with oil and can be greasy. They got rid of their cream eye paints. I hope they release their version of a one and done shadow like Merit has again.
I understand your disappointment in wanting to engage with the brand and not really finding a product that suits you, hopefully they’ll come up with something really soon though 🤍
There needs to be more awareness about non big pharma treatments. The inherent problem in creating more “awareness” for mental health is that people will seek more and earlier treatment thus, be exposed to psych drugs at younger ages and for more extended lengths. The real solutions to mental health are complex and require a mix of community building, trauma healing, and social support. The UK royals actually have a much better approach with supporting foundations that focus on community solutions. Selena herself has said she takes psych meds so given her heavy involvement with the fund it’s hard not to say it’s biased.
I honestly dont know much about big pharma in the US being that Im English and Ive only watched a few docs, but you really could be right, we really dont need more awareness, we need complex care and support
Correct me if im wrong but i feel like people started liking rare beauty more also bcz of the drama with hailey bieber💀I mean there s absoloutely no denial that its a pretty good brand w nice products but that stuff def contributed to it
Well any kind of drama like that seems to help any business sell a lot of product, I mean, there are brands that build their whol strategies around it (think Jeffee Star, MSCHF, Balenciaga, Lady Gaga’s early career)
There’s a lot of people wants to put rare beauty, rem beauty, and all the beauty and skin care products brands of celebrities to put their brands down. It’s sad to find out about this people just don’t want to let them make the celebrities own beauty brands businesses just to put them down instead.
To me personally, the celebrity themselves doesn't sway my opinion on the company as a whole. There are really interesting brands like Fenty Beauty and Haus Labs that have a slightly different perspective that I enjoy. And honestly, even though I think it's a little misleading to the consumer, I think the set up of Rare along with the Rare Beauty Fund is very interesting, we don't see that kind of planning in cosmetics often. Ultimately, for me, I just like to see a good interesting business, if it comes from a celebrity then thats awesome, but often they're either licensed brands (think like REM or the many perfume lines) or they're pre-planned companies with a celebrity stuck onto it (Kylie Beauty). Good examples of companies that aren't like this would be Jeffree Star, Dainty Doll by Nicola Roberts (it folded many years ago) and Huda Beauty, all of which were the celebrity themselves' idea
I love the brand too easy to apply giving such a flow less skin to me every time. I don’t know about many but I am a Fan of good product which she is consistently delivering.🙃
selena isn’t a saint, she’s a human being. everyone casting judgement towards her needs to remember we’re all flawed, we’ve all done bad things, we can all improve and we’ve all got to take accountability for our wrongdoings. that doesn’t mean that as we all mess up that we’re all bad people. i think the media depictions of her being this angelic being who can do no wrong is inaccurate and harmful in the same was as continually villainising someone who has done wrong. i wish more balanced views of people in the spotlight were provided. also no brand is perfect and will often have areas to improve upon. i love the ethos of the brand but i agree that we do need far more than just awareness of mental health issues throughout society; we need actionable solutions put in place.
I really agree that blaming her directly is quite unfair, no one person could make this kind of company at all, and youre right, its equally damaging to portray her as a saint for exactly this reason. Its now more shocking that *she* is tied to this, which isnt really fair
agreed. the pricing of everything at sephora is ungodly. not only that but the quality isn't that much of a jump from drugstore to namebrand. I go there maybe once every 700 years smh
Selena's remarks on the israeli oppression of gaza have been nothing but a disappointment. She has lost a lot of followers and business and frankly, she deserves all this. Free Palestine 🇵🇸
*If people really like they need to rely on a makeup company to produce commentary on the most convoluted, complex, and clusterf*ck of a foreign policy topic (the Israeli-Arab conflict, the 10/7 attacks and the imminent removal of Hamas from power), they need to get their heads checked, rare beauty makes makeup, they’re not a foreign policy think-tank.*
I don't think she is that much into clean girl. She has a lot of bright colors and her highligters have the glitters in the certain light. I don't find this brand clean girl really, they are affordable, and they don't have dramatic palettes, but that's fine. Her blushes are pigmented so much if you put more then one spot, and with one spot you must be on some level to work it out, they are not beginner friendly. Luckily there are a lot of other brands that have liquid blushes, so I can tell. Also, when I compare this to some high end CT, liquids don't last that good. But I see her aestethic close to CT and all that glow and glitter but in the cheaper version and without that small eye palettes variants. I also couldn't work lip oils on my dry lips, so uneven and I like actually the darker colors of those.
@@underskinYT I agree with that. Just saying the public is against her right now and people were saying they were going to boycott her makeup brand. Saw this video in June and thought it was great.
Shame on Rare Beauty, such a horrible and deceitful enterprise. I'm shocked! One question: I always thought that Rare Beauty was created with the help of Sephora/LVMH. Do you have any insight? As we all know, Sephora/LVMH likes to create a brand of its own.
Considering her brand is heavily tied to how well she's held in public opinion, I don't see her brand doing well for much longer. Her insistence to insert herself into political commentating has been amusing, to say the least, but as with any other celebrity, she has failed time and time again. Her comments about Gaza were awful. Not to mention her constant victim mentality. Her PR team should get a raise because she's still seen as some angel, when in reality she's extremely manipulative, disingenuous and shady... everything that Rare Beauty claims to be the opposite of.
The thing you said at the end is so true, the charity being more of a political tool doesn't bother me because they lobby for views that I hold as well
This is such an informative video, you really did your research! I cant imagine how much time you put into this thoughtful video. I would love to see a "Fall and Fall" video on celebrity makeup lines that never took off, such as Gaga's Haus Labs and Ariana's REM Beauty
Thank you, Im so glad you liked it. Im interested a lot in Haus Labs actually, their rebrand has seen the company spike a lot and I would like to look into how stable that is. REM tho was a dumpster fire and it would be entertaining too
@@underskinYT With REM, I think their main downside is the quality and the creativity of her products. A lot of people complain about how the eyeshadows barely show up, and how unexciting the colour shades of her products are. Her pot concealers helped the brand a bit. I guess people expected more but her products are 'meh' nothing ground breaking. It also doesn't help that she wears less makeup now compared to her Sweetner and Thank you next pop princess era. She was known for the cut creases, bold overlined lips and, sharp winged eye liner, etc. and the brand is heavily marketed with her.
@@ajpristine4809 Their main problem was the fall of the parent company, plus they didnt really have a good enough differentiator to be sold to another company either (in which case the formulas would be revamped ayway)
Gaga's products are much loved by the beauty community. I have few things they are so so good, if you are 35+ and start to have or have a visible signs of ageing and texture, def better then Gomez's line.
1% of proceeds go towards a fund which pays Selena and other heads a salary, it's actually a lot less than 1% that actually ends up going towards "raising awareness" of mental health
I notice certain bias in the video. You don't give the benefit of the doubt as Selena and her Rare Beauty team are a business but also want to do good. Also her cosmetics are set apart also by quality. Her blush mascara and foundation are highly loved for quality, not only Selena's name and philanthropic endeavor. Non fans won't invest their hard earned money on makeup because 'it does good'
her products are a good quality, thats certainly true, but unfortunately having a good product isn't really a differentiator much in cosmetics because there are so many good products on the market, hence why having something else is so important
Thank you for the information. It is eye opening and must have been a lot of work for you to track down. I have never really been interested in purchasing from this brand because it has the look of kids makeup to me. I am tired of “stars”, and quite frankly “influencers” in the beauty world.
They arent exactly upfront about them not being a charity, because its sort of hidden through word play, but the rabbit hole was fast to fall down. I will say thats mostly because ot the finding of the book
I don’t care for either Selena or Rihanna but I have to say Rare has better products. I have dry-combination skin and all Fenty foundations even the “hydrating” one looks cakey, heavy and dry on me. The makeup crayons which I think Fenty calls Match Sticks are the driest and most patchy product ever. The liquid lipstick is horrible as well, very drying. Rare however have their ups and downs as well. Their under eye brighter (which is a blatant copy of Trish McEvoy under eye brighter) is fabulous! It’s beautiful.
Its obviously a good thing that they raised a lot of money, but I dont get why it couldnt either be a partnership or like a vote where customers could vote out of a set of 3 or 5 where their 1% would go
in a world where people think OCD is about loving perfectionism, we do need more awareness
How about strengthening traditional moral values
It’s helped before , it can help again
The extremely rich will escape all the wealth gap reduction and taxation like they always do
It will be up to the average people to pick up the pieces , so moral values are a more effective and less expensive solution
Selena always had a very active marketing team. Her drug addiction or alcoholism is no where to be found on the internet. She has been given a squeaky clean image, as the golden girl, the victim, the girl who got cheated.
her PR team has been really great for a long time for sure
Im surprised too
Yet again TH-camrs proving they are better than crappy documentaries they release on Netflix or Hulu. Excellent job :)
I see those netflix documentaries as (often) more like PR than anything else, especially when its around a celebrity
Most big companies are totally left leaning and are pushing a radical agenda that is not in the people’s best interests.
We DO need more awareness though, there is never enough awareness. And awareness isn't bad, at least it's doing something rather than nothing.
@@Bayysideawareness is great but without solutions it’s lazy. I’m tired of a IG post about mental health being so applauded.
The raising awareness and charity was news to me, and purely marketing BS.😂 Personally, i just feel that Selena has been exploiting mental health/disability since 13RW, but her image is too strong.
she might be trapped in a scenario of her own making tho, like if she stops promoting mental health now, thats not going to look great either
She’s been milking the mental health thing just like she milked her relationship with Bieber
I only bought this brand once her own makeup artist, Hung Vango, used it on his TH-cam channel. I had 0 awareness of the brand launching with all the mental health tie-in. I actually really like this brand for the products themselves.
Thats great, they arent bad products at all
I love them eye patches they do wonders for fine lines 😍
I also suffer with chronic illness and autoimmune. The packaging choices she made were to be easily opened and grasped by those with arthiritis and grip issues. In a world where mostly healthy people are featured, its nice to have a brand that caters to the needs of its customer base. Im not even 40 yet but struggle with packaging, so her brand was a godsend. 4:13
The packaging is truly phenomenal for this reason
@@underskinYT I thought this was actually a rumor/not confirmed by the brand and just repeated by various influencers without facts....

There’s some evidence that Selena does not have lupus, and that it was a PR story to cover up her going to rehab for heroin addiction while she was still working for Disney.
Selena has been an active philanthropist since she was a child actress lol, but sure whatever you say kid.
@@Bayysidemost of these celebrities are lazy including her. I don’t doubt Selena has been through a lot but her brand is focused on being the sweet victim.
Selena has always been a philanthropist. What are you doing ? Lmaoo
I think this brand will fall when her image has- and it has now to most people with her supporting Isreal because she liked Amy Schumer's post (I think it was Schumer?). Ive seen people do "makeup brands to boycot" tiktoks that also listed Rare Beauty.
Anything this tied to a celebrity is subject to their personal fame. Its a difficult balance
So theres definitely other ways to run a business if they wanted to
The market is overly saturated in my opinion. These celebs are relying on their name SOLELY to sell skincare or makeup not the quality
Yeah, they need more than a big star now for sure
The blushes are mid. I have 2 of them, and they do not last! They have a good range of blush no doubt but it isn't the best, sorry
to be fair i bought the blushes of rare beauty without knowing it was a celebrity brand and the products are good quality i tried alot of blushes but the rare blushes are the best. After the blushes i bought diffrent products and i really love the 'light make up' philosophy.
I love your videos btw very informative.
Theyve had a big push for their blushes too
They are difficult to use, not beginner friendly.

Influencer "awareness" campaigns are always selfish and not about the 'cause' at all. Like philanthropy.
Donate to hospitals, rehabs, yoga studios, massage centres, schools, etc
Otherwise just stick to the makeup

TYSM, Im glad you like them ^^
Selena can be rather naive at times, but no one can deny that she has been an active philanthropist since she was a child actress.
I really hope that is true too, I dont know if it can be true, shes been in the busienss a long time, but I really hope it is
I really doubt she is that naive. That’s why too deep to just « not know about it ».
Naivety is part of the marketing
You were so ahead of the curve.
💅

So glad i found this channel 🎉 i subscribed
Thank you 🩵🩵
Thank you for such an insightful and well researched video. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Im glad you liked it, tysm 🙌
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS THEYRE INCREDIBLY WELL DONE!!!!!!!
Tysm henny 💖💖💖
It makes you wonder where your money is going! What is “mental health”?
I’ve never heard of it, perhaps we need more awareness
This is extremely shady I do not want to support PPH I will not be giving any more money to them 😤
Because you are antiabortion? Anti medical help for women? Basically women should get cervix cancer because they lack funds for doctors. Got it.
I’m with you. I won’t knowingly give a dime to that evil place. I’m glad I now know where my money is going if I purchase from rare beauty.
I love the brand too easy to apply giving such a flow less skin to me every time. I don’t know about many but I am a Fan of good product which she is consistently delivering.🙃
Then thats great, im glad you have something you love
selena isn’t a saint, she’s a human being. everyone casting judgement towards her needs to remember we’re all flawed, we’ve all done bad things, we can all improve and we’ve all got to take accountability for our wrongdoings. that doesn’t mean that as we all mess up that we’re all bad people.
i think the media depictions of her being this angelic being who can do no wrong is inaccurate and harmful in the same was as continually villainising someone who has done wrong. i wish more balanced views of people in the spotlight were provided.
also no brand is perfect and will often have areas to improve upon. i love the ethos of the brand but i agree that we do need far more than just awareness of mental health issues throughout society; we need actionable solutions put in place.
I really agree that blaming her directly is quite unfair, no one person could make this kind of company at all, and youre right, its equally damaging to portray her as a saint for exactly this reason. Its now more shocking that *she* is tied to this, which isnt really fair
thank you for this videos. can i suggest for the next video will be laneige or etude house? i thank you! :)
I would actually love to do etude house, I speak fairly decent korean so it would be nice to practice that for research
Affordability? Rare Beauty is not affordable. LOL Drugstore Makeups are affordable.
Its in the mid tier imo
agreed. the pricing of everything at sephora is ungodly. not only that but the quality isn't that much of a jump from drugstore to namebrand. I go there maybe once every 700 years smh
Can you please make a video on skims of your other channel. I love these informative videos 😀😊
I would love to do that actually, maybe it would be good to do that and KKW or SKKN here at the same time to tie it in
Selena's remarks on the israeli oppression of gaza have been nothing but a disappointment.
Then she shouldn't make comments and ask for donations for Ukraine hon.@@orangechickengorl
As long as the minimal clean girl/old money aesthetic is in she will do ok but the minute bright colors start trending again she’s in trouble.
I wonder what their plan is in that case 🤔
Selena is currently getting cancelled. Brilliant and insightful video.
That wasnt my aim with the video ofc, just to evidence some critical thinking
@@underskinYT I agree with that. Just saying the public is against her right now and people were saying they were going to boycott her makeup brand. Saw this video in June and thought it was great.
@@reccyrelmao she’s not being cancelled. Rare is about to announce a record breaking year and they tripled their sales from last year. Keep dreaming
@@user-mz9iy9py6m ummm if you want to support an inhumane soulless Zionist then yeah 👍
A lot of these people are virtue signalers who are ignorantly happy if it sounds good they won’t care
I hope that’s not the case, but unfortunately looking at the business it does seem that way
Do you have a video on Haus Labs?
I absolutely need one, their rebrand was amazing
I really don't think Selena knows anything about running a business at all and is just happy doing whatever
Does anyone celeb? Thats kind of what a business manager is for, they just do what theyre told
Shame on Rare Beauty, such a horrible and deceitful enterprise. I'm shocked! One question: I always thought that Rare Beauty was created with the help of Sephora/LVMH. Do you have any insight? As we all know, Sephora/LVMH likes to create a brand of its own.
Yeah its not owned by LVMH, but Im sure she had contacts with Sephora even before the company set up, so maybe thats why it was an easy link
The thing you said at the end is so true, the charity being more of a political tool doesn't bother me because they lobby for views that I hold as well
That really could be the saving grace of it
Like ?
The mascara and blush are unbeatable.. hands down. Proceeds do go towards mental health. And the lip line is awesome as well
1% of proceeds go towards a fund which pays Selena and other heads a salary, it's actually a lot less than 1% that actually ends up going towards "raising awareness" of mental health
I have a doubt all the videos said "Rise and fall" why didnt you include Rise in this one?
Its too long with the word ‘potential’ for some to see without the three dots
What ever happened to the fashion clothing stores of “Bebe” chain stores?
Oh that’s so interesting, but that would definitely go on my fashion channel
This aged SOOOOOOO bad… i love too see it
I notice certain bias in the video.
She'll be around for quite sometime.
Rare Beauty copy Kim's Nude look, for their body collection.😂😂😂😂😂
And people say nude is bland
I feel like people are buying rare just because of selena, her products are good but not as good as Fenty
Which leaves me to question, without selena, what is their differentiator?
uh no...
I prefer Rare products than Fenty and I’m not even a Selena fan…
Because of the packaging? I could see that being a pretty solid differentiator
Rare beautys new body lotion and mist do smell like heaven though lol
But its the scents that irritate my skin 🥺
this aged like milk lol Selena Gomez just became a billionaire
it's going great now....for now...
pretty much
boycott rare beauty
The second dictionary figure for the definition of Nasty Nice ..
Figure 1. is Taylor Swift 😂
I will most definitely be purchasing Rare Beauty soon 💕
Glad you have a brand you like 🙌
Typical Selena Gomez
Id need to see more evidence to call this typical tbh
tbh, shes just a kylie with no surgery n a dark part.
You think she never had plastique? I know shes denied it but Im not convinced, just imo, I think shes had botox at least
She got nose job and face lift.
fall of tati vitamin and makeup brands?
Oh thatd be interesting
The products are amazing I love rare beauty 😊
Thats great, Im glad you like them 🥰
