I bought the I5 and Tesla Y at the same time. Tesla has many advantages, but the I5 has much better comfort when it comes to seats (incl. adjustment options), very comfortable shock absorbers and sound level. Comfort are more important to me and that's why I sold the Y.

Hi Lars-Einar, what about the self-driving functions of the Tesla? I am primarily looking at buying a Tesla because of its self-driving capabilities. I haven't found another car brand AI that can literally steer away from someone almost hitting you on the side, or drive a few metres forward if a car behind you is about to hit you. See the videos called " Tesla Autopilot Saves " to understand what I mean.

@@anmimanma7224 I sold the Tesla Y quick; but the impression is that the Y has lower consumption, specialy on the motorway above 100 km/h. I live in the south of Norway. The charging in winter is between 60-140 kwh. But the I5 is getting preheat like Tesla, then it will charge fast again 🙂

All the issues that you find "annoying" are software and have been fixed with an OTA software update. This is a very new car even in Jan 2022, and was even much newer (and unreleased?) back in Sep 2021. So relax and test drive a much newer and released unit. Cause all your issues have been fixed with the latest software update. And the IQ5 obliterates every other EV out there.

I have tesla 3 performance and honestly, I am not using anymore that acceleration. It is quite useless. Sometimes when I need to get on the highway through the ramp, - I'm pushing acceleration, - but not that much. It's like why would I mess with my tires if I can provide to them extra life span. What exact situations you need that acceleration for? To show off?

I feel the same way, just because I'm a tesla owner that doesn't stop me from appreciating what the competition is offering. The thermal throttling would be a deal breaker for me but hopefully they can fix that by a software update. I thought the Ioniq 5 allowed you to use it as a electric powerstation to run devices of your choosing I.e toaster, microwave etc. Why can't tesla have this with their vehicles. Imagine a EV stranded with low battery and you can come along and give them a quick top up to get home or to a charging station. Wish my M3 had that option.☹ Still a fun car for me to drive but could be better and have way more usable features like the peer to peer charging.

First of all Kris, thank you for a great video.
I decided to go for the Ioniq5, because I’m a child of the 80’s.
I love this car.I understand that you either have to love or hate this car, but for me it’s a beautiful car.
I am just waiting for Dr Emmett Brown to rise from the backseat, turn on a couple of buttons and then were Airborne✈️
I considered the Mustang and a few other options, but because I’ve had three other Hyundai’s prior to this, I decided to stick with that, since I have been very satisfied with the others.
But already after a short while I started to experience some of the problems you referred to in your video/review.
Especially that irritating moment when you put yourself in the car and it will not go into drive???
Can anyone who reads this and have experienced it please give me some advice?
Do you know what to do ?
is there a quick fix ?
could it be that I’m doing something wrong?
I would hate to return this car back to the dealer, but I will not be am owner of a car that I cannot rely on.
I would be very happy for responses on my problem.
    thank you very much🙏🏻

Absolutely love my new Ionic 5 Limited. I have had very few, and only minor issues and for me, the safety beeping is just fine. I have been a BMW X3 driver for many years and when I decided to go electric I looked at all available EVs in the Ioniq 5 price range. This "spaceship" absolutely rocked it over anything else out there. Its very comfortable, spacious, quiet and handles like a dream. I like the look of the front end, I would refer to it as serious and not sad. The profile is like noting on the market and the rear is, well, as you said, amazing. In terms of why we ordered one of these (AWD limited version) - test drive was extremely pleasant, range is enough for our needs (we're in New Zealand, so range will get reduced on some hilly trips but speed limit is almost all 100kph on open roads, so we're not going at high speed and reducing range that way), boot capacity/height is exceptional (fits two large Rhodesian Ridgebacks comfortably, which was a must), the extra features on the limited were value for money which is a change from most top models (fully adjustable reclining seats when we're waiting to board a ferry or for charging, ability to move the rear seat forward to give dogs more room, blind spot view, memory seats...I mean the list just goes on) and the cabin space is exceptional - we stuck my 6'2" friend behind my 6'4" ass driving and we both had a ton of room.

Harldly anyone experiencing this “problem” what in fact is a safety mode for the battery, like you can read in the manual. It’s a 800v system not anything like 150v . Having to move my whole upper body to see my speed, having a worse head up than the ID4, having to press one physical button, then move my hand 20 cm to touch the screen, and then move my hand down 5 cm to touch the screen again, just to put seat heating on the middle setting, says it all when it comes to the user interface. Compare that to the double taps of the ID4 (which I kind of hated, but could be done without taking your eyes from the road) or just pressing two different places, 2 cm apart, on the Model Y.
I also hated that almost everything took one or two more button presses on the Ioniq 5 compared to the ID4 and Model Y.
The map is the worst I have used in pretty much any car. Hyundai could have taken the map, without touch interface, from a 2010 BMW or Audi and it would have been 10 times better. I just typed in Stockholm, to see how it would navigate when it would require charging. 80% battery and it wanted me to charge right away. Those 20 percent would do nothing to help me get to my destination. Just trying to move around on the map was hopeless. Zoom out just a bit, and all the smaller roads disapeared. Here in Norway that ment almost all road. Just an almost empty map. Move the map around, and the car will suddenly decide that you changed direction and therefor change the direction of the map. Even when you are not centered on the car! The car also can't remember your regen settings if you put it into I-pedal. Imagine always using it, and always having to change the settings of the car when you enter it, then you forget once and crash into the car in front of you.
Just so many poorly thought out decisions that would make me hate driving it every day. I can't stand that things are created so you have to do multiple unnecessary steps..

I have the Ionic 5 and its the best car I ever owned and I've owned over 10 cars since I been driving. This car is well built and a head turner. As far as range is concerned if you drive more than 200 miles pre day then don't buy an EV buy a gas powered car. Going on a road trip? well use the NAVIGATION Screen to find the public charging stations along your route, time to chare from 20-80% is about 20 minutes. Very good ride, smooth and fast which could be problem!. Things that need improvement--- a battery warmer for winter charging, better placement of the key elements of the screen such as speed, and yes its annoying to have to go into the screen to turn on/off the seat heaters and wheel warmer. Otherwise its a super car, fun to drive and it does carry lots of "stuff" once you turn down the rear seats, which BTW are adjustable.

Hi, I've now had the car checked over, and have also spoken to their technical team. it seems the issue is down to the technology on the car, calculating how much actual mileage you are likely to get from a full charge, based upon the usage of the car, and taking into account other settings that you use such as internal temp, external temp, etc. This therefore shows a more accurate figure of the mileage that you will be able to get out of the car, and is more favourable than other EV's that may show you a higher available mileage figure, but then not actually be that accurate. You can make a reset to the settings from the car, and then the vehicle will start again in re-calculating your available mileage at full charge, based upon how you drive the car after the reset. I've now had the car for just over 2 months, and a full charge has typically settled at around 227 miles, as opposed to the 280 that is advertised. The only other issues I've experienced is around the Bluelink Hyundai app for scheduled charging, which is very buggy, and I had one day where the scheduled overnight charge didn't happen, even though the app had accepted the instruction. I think they need to iron out some of the bugs on the App to be honest.

Great vid as usual. Interesting concerns. The big deal breaker for me on this the EV6 and likely the GV60 are the low ground clearance. As the wheelbase on these cars gets longer low ground clearance becomes an issue in some situations, like steep driveways where the bottom may rub dud to steep pitch. I tired a Mach E and it rubs the bottom coming out of my driveway, becasue that is insanely low ground clearance (lower than many sedans). These SUV/CUV EVs need SUC/CUV ground clearance or they are off my list.

I think I read somewhere that it needs to preheat the battery (same as tesla) to get optimum charge speed. so if you don't let the car know you are going to a charger I think that is when you get the low charging speed. I guess it will be the same with EV6 if you gonna test it in the future (maybe a compare test in charging when it entereed in navigation compared to not)

But why doesn’t Ioniq 5 heat the battery before rapid charging like Tesla? And with the Ioniq 5 being water cooled battery why is it throttling the power ? Maybe see if you can try another Ioniq 5 see if it’s just that car that’s has issues? But it isn’t not just that car having issues seems strange than no one brought this up ! Thanks again for the review

    • @OlJackBurton
      @OlJackBurton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

The crappy range and efficiency isn't an isolated issue for the Ioniq5 in reviews. Everyone that has taken this on long distance range tests on pure highway at higher speeds and less than ideal (real world) conditions hasn't been able to get more than 180 miles per charge, which gives the Ioniq5 a real world range of 80% of that (since you're not supposed to frequently deplete the battery below 10% or even 20% and charging slows to a crawl above 80% and you're also not supposed to charge to 100% all the time either) or less than 150 miles. If you add aggressive lead foot driving (80+ mph), sub-freezing temperatures, multiple passengers and cargo and elevation changes (saying driving in Utah for a camping or skiing trip on 85 mph highways), your usable range in those criteria and conditions might be less than 50 miles, which makes it useless if there is no charging network...

Thirdly with me in Australia, with only 1% EV sale so far, what is YoYo ing actually mean. I have driven the Hyundai Kona EV and the Kia Niro EV for a few weeks each and they seen to have no power issues what so ever and even seem to charge faster on a normal 240V home power point. So I guess temp may have an issue in colder climates. The Jaguar I-Pace beeps even more if you don’t use your belt, also when you’ve sat the car in park. After a minute or two (I have never timed this) the Ioniq 5 will stop the belt beeping.

you have to calibrate the head up display for crisp images. (only once), The TT problem seems a problem with your specific car.

In 5000km I have not experienced the power limitation you mentioned after fast charging (I've seen the 220kW many times). How hot was it outside when you experienced this?

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's good to hear, don't know what the issue is and if it is only limited to this car. I experienced it at different temperatures between 9 - 22 degrees celcius.

i got to test drive one, and had there been one there to purchase, I would have driven off with one! I'm kinda glad I'm looking at a 2023 delivery as I hear this, and if these issues are not addressed by then I will be keeping on with my tesla. with auto updates, and never an issue with fast charging and always lightning acceleration.

What don’t any reviewers tell you what level charger the car comes with?? I need to know if it comes standard with a level 2 like Teslas do. Thanks!

Wondering if the thermal issue is just that car as it seems quite a few owners below have said they have no problems. Maybe there is a fault with that car - i.e. the battery cooling or a sensor issue. I wonder if Hyundai have checked it out as I notice Bjorn had a similar issue in that very same car?

Is the charger doing only 400 V and charges at half speed you would get at a 800 V charger?

Hi @Kris Rifa, great video, it helped a lot.
I just test drove one of these and there are a couple of points that I disagree with you on Kris. Obviously a lot of this is subjective but:
First is the driving position - as tall guy (6"3) mostly in the leg, I had no issue finding a comfy position. I did notice that both you and your friend adopt a much more reclined seat posture - perhaps this is just a difference in what we're used to driving but more upright vehicles like this I've found tend to encourage a more upright posture and I'm used to that and like it.
Second was the interior quality - I really like the design and space, but the quality of materials is not high, particular on the tops of the doors and dash which are hard, scratchy plastics. Not what I expect from a £40k + vehicle.
There is a lot to like about the car though - most of all design, again very subjective but for me it's awesome. :)
I do agree about the colour options, I wish they had the option to have the whole car as one colour rather than the contrast which either runs too close to the paint or is too strong contrasting.

      @mellowmoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The quality of the material is better for the top line of the Ioniq.

Thank you for good review but you are putting a lot of personal taste in your drawbacks about the car design. In the end there are no perfect car especially in the electric line. The leg room in the back has been praised by many critics given the car size. Remember what you are paying for this car.

Does it have a battery temp indicator? Did you get the key issues figured out? My Taycan actually stopped running the other day when I had the key in my left pocket. It allowed me to start it and back up, but when I put it in drive it stopped. I had to switch the key to my right pocket to get it to start.

    • @mick-berry5331

That's exactly what you get with a lot of today's gadgets. When you had to have your key in the ignition, you knew your car would run.

I guess the Kia EV6 has the same power issues. Also these both don't have a rear window wiper! Do they have a rear window defroster? How does show and ice wipe itself off in the wind? Beeping is not a big deal, but having to worry about overheating the battery. No thanks.

Kris - wondering if the back seats had been adjusted forward when your friend tried it? :)

    • @richard--s

He had a text insert saying that the rear seats were all the way back.
So he was thinking about this possibility, but was sure about it.

Kris, great 👍 review.. we recently seeing this car in NYC .. it’s nice however I think we have different taste because I am not a fan of the interior layout feels like you’re in a small minivan especially with the center console push back .. just something not right with the layout ... so it’s ok but nothing to be excited over, I do really like The exterior look / design that’s awesome 👍 my daughter to have this as her first EV .. so will see if we get it .. I was just hoping for more with this car .. The interior feel is really the big let down for me though... awesome exterior but not a fan of the interior .. OK performance and awesome charging speed .. that’s my take on this car.

I like the interior layout, especially with the center console push back ..(can get out to the front passenger door if park too close to other car on driver side). The exterior layout is only ok to me. The best is the 800V Batt and V2L features.
