I saw the RedBull video yesterday. What a machine the drone is. Hopefully with tech later on we can use those drones in F1 as cameras for tv direction. You can see the real speed of F1 cars in the straights and most importantly in the corners which is really hard for most cameras to capture!
Not going to happen, imagine crashing one down on the circuit, or worse, on a F1 pilot at 300kmh. I would be very surprised if they approved it. Not that I don't support your enthusiasm though.
@@MightyCalves also true. when they tested the prototype of this vs the f1 car on RB official channel something in fact did go wrong. it seemed to lose steering and veer off course and they pressed a 'return home' fail safe and it returned home. but you know, once something like this would be deployed in a race ittl be tested and 'fail safed' to the max... It wouldnt be a 100% safety but close enough to make it viable. I mean basically theres absolute deathmachines above the circuits in the form of choppers as well (if anything would happen)
They already have fpv pilots filming at F1 races, not using a top speed drone like this, tho. And they have been filming other styles of races for years, especially drift and rallycross

I mean that RedBull drone is meant to go around a track and keep up with a F1 car thats an endurance of about a minute, a drone with an endurance of 7 seconds means it can put out much much more power to weight ratio and so highly possible to beat the Top fuel.

with drones, braking in a straight line is very difficult to interpret, because the way we accelerate isnt just throttle, we pitch forward as well, thats an equal part so to completely stop, we usually circle, but we can also point backwards without turning, but it means we can't see the ground. a really confident pilot could stop it much quicker, easily within half the car's distance. but in general, the drag is the only thing slowing us down in a corner, so we intentionally overshoot so we can turn around more to accelerate the other direction.

I wouldn't say "drones" in general. This is very much an exception with these guys being actual gods at handling drones at this speed. They made the initial design (almost from scratch) then got some redbull R&D involved in there to use exotic composites and what not. If anything it shows you what the speed drone market will look like in 5 ish years
This is the BEST car channel on TH-cam. It's like my dreams from the mid 90's when I was a teenager playing Gran Turismo 4 and 5. Just... so many wild match ups. I used to get my little brother to be like "HEY! HEY! Let's race a slightly modded Cobra R vs a bone stock Viper and see how they do. And we did every combo of racing imaginable hahaha.
I would assume not, just because it's really bad for performance when blade tips get into that new regime of flow. You start getting a bow shock in front of the blade and that restricts flow, the further supersonic the further that shock wave is in front on the travel direction of the blade. The tips transitioning into transonic and supersonic may also just break the blades from the instability and transition only at the tip. Jet turbo fan tips are just riding the line before getting transonic, jets that get into multiple mach numbers have to use afterburner and ram jets.

Literally looks like a Dragon Ball Character in real life. And drones don't have so much of a limit as cars do. Since they are not heavy and do not require friction with the surface alongside gravity to keep them grounded. These factors mean the drone gets to max speed real quick without limitations holding it back.

It is worth adding that some production drones could ALREADY "keep up with F1 cars", but they would drain the battery so fast that they would die in just seconds; a full lap lasts minutes. The Red Bull F1 Drone is capable of accelerating that fast while carrying a MASSIVE battery assembly inside, enough to fly for 3 minutes. Of course there are compromises, but that is all acceptable.
LOL i knew the drone pilot was toying with Matt, you could tell from the sound of the motors it kept backing off any then only accelerated at the last moment, well apart from the last race where he smashed the car. very entertaining though, what a drone!

If it actually went flat out, the car would be so far behind you wouldn't even bother filming....😊 We understand that's not as interesting to viewers.
