    Absolutely stunning module! I have to say that not only is the video informative in terms of how the module works, but it is a fantastic explanation of compression and how it is implemented!!! Cannot wait to get my hands on this one.

    I got so excited i started watching the Larachd & Cuir videos simultaneously! need to slow down, but thank you guys for making these!

      😂
      The larachd is a much deeper dive :)
      Only so much I could do to demonstrate an output module for the cuir vid. But I tried to keep it informative!

    Super useful module and video. Instruo videos are always helpful in understanding what’s going on in the module. Awesome approach in hardware, as well as in presenting it’s capabilities.

    Just got this module and it has really opened up my patching. And props for the gated sample and hold pulse wave trick at the end, very clever!

    There are a lot of ways to do this with midi, various cables, other stuff. But this is just really simple and powerful for performance without some menus, hexdecimal, or anything else abstracting you away from the machines.

    • @rdean150
      @rdean150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MIDI can be used for replacing the footswitch part, but MIDI does not facilitate amplification, waveshaping, or any other input audio signal processing. And even if you had an analog dynamics processor to perform the threshold detection and envelope generation, MIDI would be too slow to deliver the envelope follower output accurately and smoothly.

    You sound like a young version of Ivor Cutler, I hope you know him and don't take offence. I do like your modules, I have just built a Behringer system 100 and looking for something that is generative for ambient stuff as well as late 70s early 80s stuff. Keep on keeping on as Bobby G from Primal Scream often says 🙂

    In the manual is a patch idea with an electric guitar connected to the stereo input. Can I use a 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch TS cable for that?

    • @instruo
      @instruo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can indeed!
      The impedance is optimised for line input, but depending on the instrument and how “hot” the pickup is it can work plug and play very nicely!

  • @NickVu
    @NickVu ปีที่แล้ว

    Could I plug a microphone straight into làrachd?

    • @instruo
      @instruo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most likely not.
      It would depend on the microphone.
      If it natively produces a line level signal then yes :)
      A preamp first would be optimal.

    Would this module be good to use with a guitar? So plugging in a guitar direct or maybe guitar then a pedal into the input?

    Im not too familiar with these external controllers, do they have a name? Would expression pedals send similar signals?

    • @instruo
      @instruo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s simply a passive momentary foot controller. We’re producing them specifically to ship with the làrachd module for convenience, but any similar TRS connected controller should work equally well.
      Expression pedals are different. They generally use TRS to connect to the ends and wiper of a potentiometer.

  • @bry2k

    The lack of a "latch" switch/option for the pedal input seems like a big oversight. It would nice to be able to use the pedal as a momentary switch to toggle the state of the gate.

    • @instruo
      @instruo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use it in precisely the way you describe! :)
      I didn’t include a switch on the larachd because I designed it more as the control mechanism for such a patch.
      Including a switch on board would have required 2 or 3 more jacks.
      And I can patch it as a momentary switch to toggle a latching switch anyway exactly as you describe.
      My Tain module can be defined as momentary or latching for this use case.

    How would it work for external hardware synths?

    • @instruo
      @instruo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have a particular context in mind?
      The line to modular could be used to bring line level/headphone output audio up to modular amplitudes.
      These signals could be used within the modular system and could also generate CV signals via the envelope follower as well as gate/triggers from amplitude spikes.

      @@instruo thanks for the reply! I have a Minimoog Voyager that I'd like to incorporate to my modular system and as I have the WMD Performance Mixer in rack with DB25 (from which I record multitracks into my computer) it's easier if can get the Voyager up to Eurorack levels. Not sure if your module is overkill for what I'm after but it seems like the envelope follower and enhancer would be useful as well in sculpting sounds and triggering things in rack based off the signal coming in from the Moog.
      I would also like to use it to bring outputs from my audio interface (for example, tracks in Ableton) up to eurorack level to run them through some of my modules.
      Sorry for the long reply! I know I could buy something more basic, but as your module does a lot more than a normal input module and is only about €100 more, if it would work well for these functions I'd most likely pick one up!

    • @instruo
      @instruo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the làrachd might suit your needs based on what you describe.
      It will certainly bring your Voyager up to modular levels (either mono or stereo).
      If that level boost is your primary requirement then you are also adding the enhance circuit, env follower and foot controller to your arsenal.
      Envelope followers in particular are super useful!
      It always surprises me at this stage how often I use a làrachd in a system in ways I wouldn’t have anticipated!

      @@instruo Cheers mate I'll grab one, sure it'll look lovely next to my Arbhar! And yeah, envelope followers are a seriously undervalued function but I guess it's cos there are many sexier things knocking about! Thanks for the replies, looking forward to the new FX module you've been teasing. Regards from Barcelona!
